I was at a bar to relax on the island yesterday night . The hypeman(obviously an Igbo) got to the stage ,took the Mic and began to yarn dust .

In my understanding,such statements are false,tribalistic and capable of leading to violence.

Such delicate matter should not be considered as joke because a lie repeated several times can be seen as truth ,it can set the course for violence in which the starter might not be able to contain it .

Indigenes of Anioma resident in Abuja have passed a vote of confidence in Senator Ned Munir Nwoko for outstanding representation at the National Assembly.
This was the highlight of an interactive session with Senator Nwoko representing Delta North senatorial district,held at the weekend in Abuja.

The event,attracted over a thousand Anioma sons and daughters, including serving and retired civil servants, as well as Anioma President Generals based in Federal capital territory
In a address,Senator Nwoko expressed gratitude for the indigenes’ support and said their presence signified a positive step towards realizing his vision for the people of Anioma.

The lawmaker said he convened the interactive session to unite all Anioma people in Abuja and its environs under one umbrella and inform them about his duties in the Senate and his responsibilities to them as their Senator.

He noted that it was also aimed to encourage them to share information about budget placements,capacity-building initiatives, job opportunities, training programs, and career development within established agencies and ministries,to enable him facilitate access to opportunities for Anioma constituents.

Senator Nwoko also renewed his call for the creation of Anioma state and stressed the importance over regional classifications.

“Whether Anioma is South-South or South-East should not be the focus. What’s most important to discuss is that Anioma is poised to become a highly significant and viable state. We already have six out of nine local government areas producing oil and gas. In addition, Anioma boasts numerous talented and important individuals. Despite current challenges, Emefiele will continue to be a prominent figure in Anioma. We also have people like Tony Elumelu, Jim Ovia, and other notable personalities. We have all the talents we need to excel in all areas, be it sports or academics.

“The Ekwumekwu war exemplifies the strength and resilience of the Aniomas. Historically, we fought the Europeans to preserve our identity and autonomy. We are continuing the legacy of our forefathers, and I assure you that I am dedicated to this cause.

“You must know what we are doing in the National Assembly.You need to understand my duties and the services I owe you. Whether it’s unjust job termination, health issues, or community matters, you have someone in the Federal Government to attend to your needs and concerns,” Senator Nwoko said

Earlier, Chief Godfrey Odogwu, the President General of Asaba Development Union, Abuja branch, emphasised that the creation of Anioma state is long overdue.

Patrick Obi, Branch President of Ogwashi-Uku Development Association, leading the vote of confidence in Senator Ned Nwoko stated, “We have been assured that we have a Senator. Doors have never been this open for us.”

Notable Anioma dignitaries at the event included Dr. Anthony Achuzia, Deputy Comptroller General, Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Services; Onwubuya Henry Ngozika, Director, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs; Mrs. Meg Okpala, Assistant Controller General, Special Services; Chief Anthony Molokwu, Ogwuluzame of Asaba; Chief Mrs. Bridget Molokwu,Deputy Director, Federal Ministry of Finance; Beatrice Eboka, Comptroller General, Nigeria Customs Service; and Mrs. Felicia Uzuakpundu, retired Director, Power Training Institute of Nigeria, among others.

AN ILLEGAL NIGERIAN NATIONAL SENTENCED TO FOUR LIFE AND 18 YEARS IMPRISONMENT FOR RAPE AND HUMAN TRAFFICKING.

The Pretoria High Court sentenced a Nigerian national, Jude Ikenna Ijegulu (34), from Centurion to two life terms for two counts of human trafficking, two life terms for two counts of rape, six years direct imprisonment for two counts of keeping a brothel, ten years direct imprisonment for using services of a victim of trafficking and two years direct imprisonment for being illegal in the country.

The court ordered that his name be added to the National Register of Sexual Offenders.

Ijegulu was running a brothel with his partner Botes in Centurion when he fetched a 26-year-old complainant in the matter from Rustenburg, where she was held captive and supplied with drugs by unknown Nigerian nationals.

On their way to the brothel, Ijegulu stopped at a friend’s house near his brothel, when they arrived at the house, Ijegulu followed the complainant to the bathroom where he raped her.

In a separate incident, Ijegulu bought a second complainant in the matter who was 22 years old at the time from another Nigerian national McDonald in Rustenburg and also took her to the brothel under the impression that she would be working as a housekeeper.

Both complainants were held captive between November 2016, to September 2017. During that time, the two were raped, supplied with drugs, physically and sexually assaulted by Ijegulu. Botes and Ijegulu also instructed the victims to render sexual services to clients. On 18 September 2017 while Ijegulu was sleeping the two victims escaped from the brothel. After their escape, they contacted an NGO which provides shelter for trafficked persons.

The NGO fetched the two women from where they were hiding and assisted them with shelter. Later the women reported the matter to the police. On 16 July 2018, Ijegulu was arrested by police after he was lured into meeting up with one of the victims in Centurion.

A month later on 18 August 2018, Botes was arrested at a property Ijegulu was renting also in Centurion after an informant provided the address to the police. In court, both Ijegulu and Botes pleaded not guilty to all charges preferred against them.

Through his legal representative, Ijegulu asked the court not to impose the prescribed minimum sentences on the charges preferred against him because he is a first offender, and the victims were in a homely environment in his house. He further added that the victims were already addicted to drugs and that the court should consider that he has been in custody since his arrest in 2018. Furthermore, Botes also asked the court to deviate from the prescribed minimum sentence on the charges preferred against her and said she committed the offences because she was influenced and controlled by Ijegulu because of her drug addiction and trauma. However, a team of prosecutors Advocate Adina Van Deventer and Advocate Alicia Ross, asked the court not to deviate from the prescribed minimum sentence in respect of the two accused, because they showed no remorse for their actions. They further argued that Ijegulu fed the two women drugs for him to control them and for them to comply with his orders. Furthermore, the complainants did not have a choice when it came to having sex with him as he was the master of the house. In respect of Botes the two prosecutors further argued that Botes was the “wife” of Ijegulu and took the money that they earned from running the brothel.
