‘Never judge a book by its cover’ — Popular saying
My affection for, and bond with, Imo State and its people run deep. In providing the background to my fated encounter and love for a state which I consider the pride of the Igbo nation and the country in general, permit me to make a useful digression. This aside will provide the context to why the people who are among the best educated, open-minded and sophisticated people I have ever met deserve the best than the present crop of leaders that have governed the state since the pioneering and visionary leadership of the Second Republic governor, the late Sam Mbakwe. Mbakwe, for me, is unarguably the father of modern Imo.
In the 1990s, after graduation, I had received my mandatory National Youth Service Corps call-up letter with apprehension. I had been posted to Imo State. I stood rooted on the spot in my university’s Students’ Affairs office in Lagos, confused, sad and dejected. Here was I, born and bred in the South-West with a call to serve my country in the South-East. My situation was not even helped that prior to that time, I had not ventured out of the South-West. So most of what I knew about the history and idiosyncrasies of the Igbos were from the history books. Nonetheless, I headed for Owerri, the capital city in one of the longest road trips of my life. But the rest is history. My one year sojourn in Imo and the adventurous foray into the vast heartland remain the best moments of my life. My primary assignment with a local newspaper in Owerri afforded me the rare opportunity of visiting virtually all the local government areas and other states. The fond memories still endure and are deeply etched in my subconscious. Today, I still reminisce on the good old days in the Land of Hope now called the Eastern Heartland. The hospitality, tolerance, openness and worldview of the average Imo indigene distinguish them from others. Since then, Imo has become my adopted home.
Owerri bears all the imprints of a modern state capital. The inner city roads that connect the streets built by Sam Mbakwe are asphalted and clean. The interstate roads that link Owerri with major towns and neighbouring states are well-networked. The houses are planned. I remember strolling with fellow corps members on broad roads such as Amakohia, Douglas, Wetheral, Royce and Okigwe. The residential estates such as Aladinma, one of the many in the town, are also well-planned.
An average Imo is crazy about education. This explains why Owerri alone boasts a dozen higher institutions of learning. We walked freely in and out of the Government House without molestation (even under the military!). The serene areas around Alvan Ikoku, Shell Camp, Police Headquarters and Government House and the massive Catholic Cathedral were tourist attractions. Though I had arrived in the thick of military dictatorship, the enduring traces of good leadership which Mbakwe provided long after the thieving buccaneers came to wreck the state still endured. Like many other states in the federation, Imo, also bore the brunt of the long years of military brigandage. The military years are best forgotten. Those were the years when civil servants in the state were owed for months. All the good works done by the Mbakwe regime were left to rot. Concord Hotel, the Aluminium Smelter Plant Inyishi, the Paint factory in Abor-Mbaise, Avutu Poultry Farm and the Amaraku Power plant all became moribund.
I have visited the state in the last few years of democracy and recently during the incumbent, Rochas Okorocha’s leadership. In2011, I was shocked that the two terms of former governor Achike Udenwa could not restoreeven Owerri to its former glory. The state of infrastructure was ina sorry state. Roads within the metropolis and those connecting the hinterland were impassable. The waterworks had dried up. I was especially scandalised by thestate of inner city roads especially Okigwe Road and the agonising hours it took to navigate the Nkworji-Mbieri enroute Mbaitoli, my host’s village. The Ihedi Ohakim years did not fare any better. Apart from the much-vaunted beautification project, his tenure was largely defined by its many controversies.
Thus my joy knew no bounds when the current governor, Rochas Okorocha, was sworn in May 2011. His emergence was particularly inspiring, given his projected national image as a man that cares for the plight of the common man through the charity he founded. I tuned in to the TV to listen to Okorocha’s agenda to transform the state. His many speeches on national platforms portrayed him as a leader who will make a difference having been established in business and public altruism. i bet u,dis is absolute non sense....No time to read ur rubbish write up...but d topic shows how idiotic u r...ur dad is a disapointment to ur mum.... |

joseph1832: What is the function or job of the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria? (CAN) Well certainly its not be a sycophant
Judging by the way Ayo Oritsejafor, who is currently the president of CAN is using the office, one would say its a complete aberration.
He wines and dines with the corrupt, plays lip service to them, encourage them in their evil ways, turns the other eye when the people he's suppose to be protecting their interest are being harassed, doesn't blink an eye lid when hash conditions are sanctioned on the Nigerian masses, attends top government functions, and has endorse a government known to be very corrupt! In short there's no PDP function you don't find the clergyman. I often wonder if he's become a card carrying member of that party.
Is this what a man of God, the President of CAN is suppose to be doing? I think its time CAN clean out their closet. maybe ur father will replace him,ur father who is in ur village,so busy killing hen for one small idol every morning.... |

Nkonadi: Barely six hours he was rumoured dead in an Indianhospital, Governor Sullivan Iheanacho Chime of Enugu State has condoled with the governments of Kaduna and Bayelsa states, as well as the relations of the late Governor Patrick Yakowa and General Andrew Azazi (retd) who died in a helicopter crash in Bayelsa on Saturday.
The state Commissioner for Information, Mr. ChuksUgwoke, who relayed Chime’s condolences in a statement yesterday in Enugu said Chime described their untimely death as not only shocking and tragic, but also a monumental loss to the entire country, even as he also mourned the others who perished in the crash. Ugwoke said the “Enugu governor who is still on vacation, extendedhis heart-felt condolences to the families of the deceased, while also praying for the repose of their souls.
The release read in part: “As a peace agent who ensured peaceful co-existence among adherents of different faiths, governor Yakowa served his people with commitment and was an embodiment of humility and selfless service, which brought about huge development in Kaduna State. “On his part too,
Gen. Azazi (retd) was a dutiful and gentleman officer and a statesman who served hispeople and nation with diligence and integrity.” The commissioner had on Saturday night when the rumour of the death of Chime was rife told Daily Sun that he was in touch with the governor, insisting that he was still enjoying his consolidated vacation, which began in mid-September.
Also, a close associate and former senior special adviser to Chime, Ben Alukwu has dismissed reports speculating the death of the governor, describing it as a cheap political propaganda. Contrary to speculations and media reports, Alukwu who was political adviser to the governor said he has been in touch with one of the governor’s aides, Mr. Victor Atuonwu, whom he travelled with; “I spoke with them yesterday (Saturday).
“When I heard the rumour I knew it was masterminded by some politicians, who cannot find their feet in the state, trying to distract us from the good work going on in the state. “As far as I am concerned, there is no truth in the rumour making the rounds; if there is anything like that, I think I should be among the first persons to know.He dismissed the reports as mere rumours being cooked up by detractors; “I strongly tell you thatthe governor is not dead; Sullivan Chime is alive. “Death is a natural phenomenon; it doesn’t separate a man from a woman; everybody must beready to answer the call one day; therefore the news of someone should not be cooked up for whatever reason.
“The governor took permission and travelled; he handed over properly to his deputy, who has been acting and carrying out duties on behalf of the governor. There is no problem in the state; the security situation is wonderful and projects are going on. “The roads are being taken care of in all nooks and crannies of the state; all the contractors are working hard; the deputy governor is holding forth pending his arrival.”

My Name is Chibuzor Eze, to be sincere, i never believed human beings can be this heartless, but still i will never give up on this race, it's actually true, am the owner of Biz 4 Naija, i sell e-products, i have never in one day advertise cars for sale, i don't sell cars neither am i affiliated to any car dealer, just wondering where that dude got that from
I actually advertised my long used toshiba laptop, during my birthday, and due to the fact that i got a new one as a gift, i had to sell off the one i got, to my greatest surprise, i got a text from this young man Named "ISAAC" of payment he claimed was paid to my account, i almost went to Fedex office for the delivery that same day, on the other thought, i said let me wait for the Notification from my Bank
All through that day no payment was received, the next day when ISAAC called, i told him politely that i have not gotten a notification from the bank, instead of long waiting, i went online to check if actually the payment was made and the bank failed to notify me, (sometimes they can be funny)
When i got to my internet banking platform, no payment was received, there and then i realized it was one of those who send payment notification without payment, from then i stopped picking his call
If you are an internet marketer, you should know there are lot of people who claims they pay for packages of which they didn't
It was the next day that a subscriber friend of mine, called Obinna called asking if the laptop was available, i told him yes, and i also told him what i was going through from a guy who claim he paid, Obinna laughed and said it's common on the internet
Attached below is a screen shoot of my account, am not suppose to do this, but i just had to do it to clear my conscience, i have a name to protect, though it's so painful that some one could be this heartless to go this length of posting lies on the internet God will punish u for wat u do to pple..we don't four eye to c dat u r a lazy man looking for innocent pple to scam, but i tell u dis,one day,all will come back to...u will chop sand and wat u defeacated will u drink...God will never spare ur generation....Guyz stop falling for online stuffs..If u want to buy laptop,bb,cars, watever,go to where dey sell it....Dis chibuzo will die soon,i assure u,even though he uses fake name...... |

ambroseagu: On Gov Chime: UNCONFIRMED REPORTS and Media Terrorism
In 'reporting Chime's so-called death (a story that has now been proven to be false) a host of media outlets relied on the following statement:
"...UNCONFIRMED REPORTS had it that Chime passed on at ..."
These media outlet include codewit.com, osun defender.com, africanspotlight.com, and onlinenigeria.com. Punch first published the "UNCONFIRMED REPORT", then codewit.com, osun defender.com, africanspotlight.com, and onlinenigeria.com all "CULLED" the "UNCONFIRMED REPORT" from Punch and re-reported the "UNCONFIRMED REPORT" in their own media.
But why is it that none of these media houses thought to CONFIRM THE REPORT before they published this outrageous story? Why terrorize a whole state(Enugu State); and a whole family (the Chimes); and an entire government (ENSG) and a whole nation (Nigeria) with this wicked lie? Who is the paymaster sponsoring this act of media terrorism?
All good men and women of conscience should stand up and condemn this damnable act of media terrorism. u r just a big fool...how unconfirmed is d live our governor....dat for over 3months we don't knw his wereabout...R u crazy?why put up a non sense write up....Punch can report,yes...Nobody grants interview to speak about d governor...Journalists r being harrassed each time they step into d govt house to ask of d governor..Chime disgraced d pple of enugu......Is dis a vacation?I love chime.....I wish he is still alive,he has done a good job apart from d fact dat he loves young gals and achohol.....Chime made a lot of mistakes....Nobody is perfect though...He mourned nwodo alive....Displayed empty coffin,to disgrace nwodo....He was seriously warned nt to do dat by fr mbaka.....Guys lets call a spade a spade.......plz bros....shut up ur mouth and stop blaming d press men, they r doing there job.....period |

Frank-C: Does that mean an attack to you? If it does, then he attacked the guy first, dead or alive. Gov Chime was Enugu Gov and he fulfilled all his constitutional responsibilities to the people of Enugu State before going wherever he went to. Right now, the focus should be on the Acting Gov, not the man. As it stands now, Gov Chime owes you nor Enugu people any responsibility, until he comes back and resumes his office. If he comes back in a coffin, Enugu people are the people that owe him responsibility as their former governor. We misuse our freedom by focusing on unnecessary things. And for my statement that elicited your response, ANY OF US could as well be dead by the time others are reading this post, so what is strange about that? u r just a waste of skin,simple.....may u knw dis,our dear governor is a womaniser,he set up agencies dat lure women to his bed,he goes about chasing ashawo @ '8hours' enugu,he impregnated his wife's sis and sent her abroad, hello monkey,r u aware of all dis?If truly he went on a vacation, why didn't he go wit his wife.... I know the National Assembly just want to get their own pound of flesh back after the revelation(after he revealed that they spent 25 percent of the federal budget). If they knew they were powerful they shouldnt have gone through the president, they should have called SLS himself and instructed him to withraw the 5000 naira agenda
CBN is an independent entity, it is only the decision of the CBN that matters. The CBN team made a recommendation to the presidency, the presidency approved it.
Even the national assembly know that this is not a battle they can win, they are just ranting,so that Nigerians will be able to praise them(Trust me after four weeks all this hullabaloo will be over and the CBN can then proceed). It is not enough to ask that the CBN should stop the introduction of N5000 notes, they must go ahead and give sound and verifiable reasons. u r as foolish as sanusi.......Go to hell and rot....Idiot |
