IT TOOK me time to decide finally to write this. Courage was needed to embark on this self-imposed assignment. This is because, while I thought very deeply inside of me that this should be written, I was also considering that I should not make some people feel really bad. But, then, this has to be written. And my reference to my father’s generation, for clarity sake, is a reference to Nigerians that were born in the 1930s, 40s, 50s and 60s. My father’s generation also comprises those Nigerians that were still pretty young or mostly in the universities or just joined the civil service in the 1960s (when most African nations got their independence), and suffered the Nigerian Civil War; the ’70s; the ’80s; and, therefore, definitely inherited a very young Nigeria. I am referring to the generation that started managing the country’s affairs since the late ’70s and has done so for decades. I am referring to the generation that is still currently handling the affairs of the country: the president, ministers, permanent secretaries, governors, senators, commissioners, House of Representatives members; retired and about to retire civil servants, judges, big business men, top shots in the army police, navy, custom etc. The generation that has started fading away; retiring from the civil service, military, businesses, superior and inferior courts of record and other aspects of our national life. Conversely, for clarity sake also, my reference to my own generation is a reference to Nigerians that were born in the 1970s, ’80s, and ’90s for now. This exposition is necessary primarily because a generation prepares an enabling environment for the generation succeeding it, as obtained in most developed countries. These developed countries epitomize a functional society where there are public goods: functioning hospitals, schools, roads, and metro stations; with 95% of the population having access to food, shelter; with low inequality gap, great standard of living, strong working class etc. Such developed countries are also characterized by a responsive police force, where you call the police and within minutes, the police is knocking on your door. The policemen in these countries know everyone on the street, and can address everyone on this same street by their first names. Though I see a serious lack of faith in my own generation, and harbour the suspicion that my own generation may be worse in managing the affairs of Nigeria, I seriously think that my father’s generation caused it, which you will have cause to believe too as we further explore this topic. Already, my own generation has started showing traces of pre-failure: a highly money-conscious and materialistic generation; a generation where someone leaves the university today and wants to own cars, houses, and all the modern gadgets within a year; a generation of showing off, and with little or no patience to grow in a responsible career; a generation afflicted by the worst side of corruption; a generation with apathetic attitude to academic excellence, exposed to low quality education characteristic of the Nigerian education sector with graduates that cannot speak good English as its regrettable products; a generation that graduates from the universities by sorting-bribing lecturers; a generation that browses answers with telephones during exams; a generation that depends on question-paper leaks to be able to pass West African Senior School Secondary Certificate Examinations (WASSCE), National Examination Council (NECO), Joint Admission and Matriculation Body (JAMB) exams etc; a generation of exam malpractices across all levels of education; a generation that wants to make quick money as soon as possible through any available means whether such means be by crook or by hook; a generation of a good percentage of school dropouts, all pursuing careers in the music industry, as a gateway to instant financial freedom and yet never sang anything meaningful; a generation of young men wearing dreadlocks, earrings, with funny guitars, sagged trousers and all manner of chains which they call blings hanging around their necks; a generation that is marked by eroded values, integrity, and morals with sex as the order of the day. A generation where the National Association of Nigerian Students’ leaders do not have any cause that they are pursuing, never criticize the government or demonstrate, except to follow politicians up and down for financial gains. Every father that I have met criticizes my generation, affirming that there is no hope in us. But the truth remains that every problem has a root; and this root, unchecked, developed into the socio-cultural malaise pervading the country today. Few of us have bothered to ascertain the origin of this trouble. I have therefore taken it as a burning passion to focus on the cause of the problem while looking at the problem. This is what I called a holistic approach. I am not trying to defend my generation. Hell No! What I have set out to do is to present my case. This is because while it is convenient for my father’s generation to blame my generation, it is also incumbent on my generation, especially those impassioned members of my generation who share the same ideals and values with me, to remind my father’s generation of their legacy of profligacy which has landed Nigeria into the very state in which they leave us. http://www.austinaija.com/2015/04/chambers-umezulike-my-fathers.html

So, by some complex events that will be mighty lengthy to include here, an iPad mini landed on my desk. The user of this iPad handed it over to another person (this old user has forgotten the password of the Apple ID used in setting up the tablet), this means the new user can’t do much with it in its present state. I have always considered Apple products to be very user friendly (having owned only an iPod, myself), I thought fixing the problem will be a piece of cake. I quickly proceeded to remove the old account (Apple ID) from iTunes and added mine; then another problem came up. I have my card linked to this account, you will understand with me that I shouldn’t hand over my account to a stranger. In the end, it boiled down to resetting the iPad to factory settings. It’s usually easy to do that on other devices I’ve used (Android phones and tablet, Windows Phone etc.), I went ahead and tried it only to be greeted with a prompt requesting the forgotten password of the previous user. I thought that was awkward, considering that I had the tablet in my hands and whatever that password was securing was already open. Yet, I couldn’t restore the iPad to factory defaults. Not to be defeated I plugged the iPad to my laptop and fired up iTunes. Viola! I was in, the rest will be piece of cake. All I had to do was backup the information in the tablet and click “restore”. That was when I saw something very strange, READ THE REST HERE>>> http://www.austinaija.com/2015/04/my-irants-1.html

How una see this matter? I asked my friend ‘Guy, wetin your Papa been dey call your mama?’ Well, he couldn’t recall since his mum is late, at least that’s the reason we both assumed was responsible for him not remembering. I have also tried to recall what my Dad usually calls my Mum and somehow, I also cannot recall. It just somehow seems like he never calls her. Hold on, I am not talking about phone calls but him calling her when she is a distance away. Well, I just can’t remember him calling her by a pet name or the even more African ‘Mama ’ e.g Mama Chukwudi. More>>> http://www.austinaija.com/2015/04/oghene-chukwu-i-think-i-love-my-wife.html

WHAT IS ALL THESE ![]() So, I was watching The Spot on Ebonylife TV with some of my very good friends last night. It was the first time my friends were watching the show so I was trying to explain what I felt the idea behind the show was to these two guys. For those of you who don't know, the show airs on Ebonylife TV every weekday and is hosted by the trio of Lamide Akintiobi, Zainab Balogun and Big Brother Nigeria alumnus, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu. Oh yes! I am a big fan of Ebuka and I am always interested in any program I see him anchoring. So while explaining to these guys how the program flows, I said 'I really love this Ebuka of a guy' and the response I got from my friends was something of this nature, 'you be gay?' and my response was a huge smile. I wondered how loving someone translated to being homosexual, gay or whatever it is called. Well, I think it was just a joke from them; the kind of stuff we call yabis. I looked at my friends and I said, 'Yes I love him'. I didn't watch the Big Brother Nigeria edition in which Ebuka was a contestant, I think that was the same one Katung won but in the past two years or so, I have become a huge fan of the brand 'Ebuka' for the following reasons: He is very versatile I think his motto should be 'Bring it on'. Ebuka fits into the major forms of media. I have never met him but I assume he is a very voracious reader who is so interested in general knowledge and indeed any kind of knowledge. He can host a sports program this second, a political program the next second and an entertainment program in another second. Only a well informed man can do all these and even more. If he was a footballer, he will definitely be referred to as a 'utility player' more often than not/ A well opinionated man Those who have followed programmes he anchored or still anchors will bear me witness on this. The man from Okija has an opinion on almost every topic you throw his way and a strong one at that which is often very healthy. Sometimes, it seems to me that he knows too much but then I know he is evening getting to learn more with every passing day. MORE REASONS HERE>>> http://www.austinaija.com/2015/02/why-i-love-ebuka.html

In a recent interview with the PUNCH, nudist and 'Gospel Singer', Maheeda reveals a lot about her including how her beautiful daughter is not allowed access to the social media, her daughter's European mentality and all what not. Find the details below I am 31 and I had my daughter when I was 17. I do not think this is going to affect her in any way. If my mother did something like this; there is no way it would have affected me. My daughter is not even aware these nude pictures exist even though she has seen pictures of me in bikini. She is not even allowed access to the social media. Even if she gets to view them eventually, it’s not going to mean anything to her because she has the European mentality. When my daughter is 18, then she can decide what she wants. FULL STORY: http://www.austinaija.com/2014/01/maheeda-discusses-daughter-husband.html
