lagcity: errm bros, not to piss on your parade, but Israel never supported Biafra. Please read your civil war history well. That Israeli support is just something that some fraudulent Igbos have been pushing around forever, just like the Awolowo suicide, genocide claims, etc. Too many lies have been passed from Igbo parents to children that I don't even know where to begin.
Why are you filled with hate for the IGBO (what have they done to you personally) much so it make you wish to turn away from glaring truths but you need to understand that you cannot wish away the the even as Igbos are still marginallized in the modern day Nigeria.
I put it to you that it is your parents who have told you lies and cover up lies about the Igbos and also about the liberation attempt of 1967.
You reallyu need to read history and not rely in account from you elders about the attempt of 1967 and events which lead to it:
Just to clear things up alittle for you:
The Igbo Never said Awolowo commited suicide they said awolowo did the ff:

1.After Gen. Ojukwu released awo from calabar prison while all the northern carnage was on going like any other humanbeing awo did what came naturally he despised the Hausa for their wickedness and decided to carry the yoruba along with biafra in pulling out of the Union. This is why the Biafran army had many yoruba soldiers and officers (including Banjo who understandably had a rethink along with his kinsmen)at the begining of the attepmt even wole soyinka was a biafran at heart but later on under the pressur of treats (1 mile corridor from kwara to the atlantic)and lobying (political advantage over the igbos at least and equality with north) from north, Awo betrayd the agreement with ojukwu and sided with north.

2. Awo was respossible for the the starvation of many Igbos the food Blockade.

3. Awo impoverished the Ibos and Nationalized all multi-nationals

Articles abound with details about his roles in the point listed.

See you call the polgrom claims, clips of the genocide of the igbos is all over youtube as captured by international journalist. it will not harm you to educate yourselve. This genocide is still ongoing with Boko hm and other silent killing allover the north. etc

the Igbo parents donot need to tell their children anything for the children to undertand the environment they live in. den no dey tell blind man say rain dy fall. children born in the 70 Know that when they wrote the common entrace examinations they had to score Highest above other tribe in Nigeria cos the cut off mark was 200 will youruba 150 and Hausa 80 .even with JAMB they had catchment areas system to favor the North in admissions this is no fairy tale it happened and is still happening the children see this and even ask dady why? The Igbo children also have documents and clips to educate them about their cultural experiences in this union.

Isreal, france, Rhodesia and South Africa, supported Biafra with secret consignments of arms and ammo. there was a wellknown Isreali Pilot for the Biafran B26 bombers call Johnny He flew for Biafra totally for free.read more and enlightened.
Rather than lie to your self.

Dont get get there is no human being created that is without sin. But show me where the ordinary struggling Igbo man or group had been an utterly heartless demon to his neighbor and I will tell you they are not Igbos. Just in case you missed out the details the coup of 1966 was spoilt by Gen. Aguiyi Ironsi and Col. Ojukwu!!! these men I think where also Igbo.
Also the killing of Igbos in the North did not start in 1966 as you think But in 1948 when Enahoro (a bendelite or midwesterner} moved a motion for Nigeria's independence from the british, The Hausa in Kano and sokoto reacted by shedding more than 2,000 Igbo blooded human beings and this genocidal tendencies remained in the north and would continue in flashes to peak in 1966 down to today.
The coup was done by a group of officers including yourubas who felt in summary that the politician of the day were self seeking and anti-nigerian. Ahmadu did not his his hatred for southerners and some westn politician also adopted a region approach to national matters and there was anarchy in the west. So the attempted to salvage the situation not for the gain of any group or Igbo and remember that Nzeogwu was a mid-westerner.

I have told no lies in fact you need to expose you understanding of this issue.

The Igbo have never lifted a finger to hurt any Hausa man in their midst rather it is the Hausa man who regularly kills Igbos in their midst and even yoruba christians just in case you have missed the info before since 1948 and still ongoing(So tell me who is who's enemy). You know what boko haram has been doing to Igbos and christian in the North for over 3 yrs now. Rather that isolate and treat the source (Hausa)they welcomed and mingle in the embrace of the yoruba Tinuba and Lia (tell who is betraying humanity here not just Igbo?)

General Ojukwu of Blessed memory led Igbos to an attempt to have their own country because Igbo's insisted in this if you are objective even as wicked as a heart may be you will sympathize with a people who where killed in the millions in the polgrom all over Norther Nigeria.
Ohhh my heart bleeds as I recount these events, In Kano in 1966 when the Hausa soldiers started the polgom there was a secondary school called the Igbo union secondary school where most of the sojourner sent their wards to be educated, on this fatefull school day an Hausa soldiers besieged the school killed the male students and teachers and bundled beautiful queens of Igbo extraction some (ooh i cry)most of these girls were virgins and took these innocent children to their hausa LEPERS to defile (GOD IN HEAVEN MUST REWARD THIS GROUP). Sad to admit but the Igbos where truly DEFEATED. But out of the ruins of Igbo woman has arisen the Likes of Okonjo, Ekwesili, Otie,Dora whoes international accomplishment dwarf those of even the Highest mallam.
So you see with all these horror events still unfolding it was not an option not to go away from Nigeria. Why do you think the Isrealies supported the Igbo with mercenaries and Pilots cos they new that they shared something special with the Igbo.

CHAIRMAN1: An insightful comment I picked from Vanguard.com earlier today:

I hail from Nasarawa State. Let me tell you the root cause of this. It's all about 2015. Current Senator Solomon Ewuga (an Eggon man) won as the governor of the state against former governor Abdullahi Adamu in 1999 but it was manipulated in favor of Adamu. Solomon Ewuga again contested in 2007 but former Governor Alhaji Aliyu Akwe Doma was hand-picked by outgoing Governor Abdullahi Adamu. Now, Aliyu Akwe messed up the state, so the incubent Governor Tanko Almakura defeated him in his second-term bid with a massive support from the Eggon people under the agreement that 2015 will be Eggons' turn. But Governor Almakura, nursing a desire for a second term, is not ready to honor the gentleman agreement. This has now given birth to the Eggon cult group called 'Ambatse', meaning; ' time has come'. That is, now it's time for them to produce the governor by all means. So, they are initiating their tribal youths into the cult for violence against anyone (especially in 2015) who stands against their cause. Let me mention that the Eggons are predominantly christians and the minority muslims in the state want to continue to manipulate power in favor of the muslims. But this time around it will be very hard for the incubent governor because Mr Labaran Maku (Information Minister), Senator Solomon Ewuga (currently a senator) and two other House of Reps members in the National Assembly are all Eggons from the state, and one of them is nursing an ambition for the governorship. Wasn't it curious that Mr Mohammed Momoh an Assistant Commissioner of Police who also lost his life led the operation? It's unfortunate that these politicians sacrifice security agents against their will (other than they have to work for survival) for their selfish aims.

besides why fighting and killing the security men who came to arrest their head if they knew what they were only doing was protecting themselves from fulani heardsmen ?

So U can clearly see now and agree with me, that they had other hidden agenda, anyway I pity them, cus that is an act of war they have called upon themselves, and this time around it is federal troops that will go there armed to the teeth with greenades , lets see how there "JAZZ" can save them from that one, n moreover in these kinda attacks its the old, children and women that will fall victim, cus the youths that are very active will all find routes of escape. such a pitty!!!!! cry cry cry
Why dont you advocate for justice and truth? Ask the commissioner why he sent 100 police men to the village on the instructions of the state governor without getting clearance for Abuja i dnt mean the IG but the PSC or executive? Two people are at way here (EGGON AND THE EVER TROUBLESOME FULANI) and the fulani decide to use administrative advantage (police) who have been ordered to kill as many eggon as possible but good fortune was on the side of the eggons and the reverse was the case, however it happened.
As a nation we need to call these group of people to order. The army dares not step foot in this matter. the FG need to invite the eggon and discuss this incident and I am we will learn that they acted in self defense if actually the killed this operative. for all we know it may be a setup to frame the eggons(boko haram killing two birds with one stone) Eggon people are not blood thirsty!!!

Politics › Re: 10 Facts About Boko Haram by calaway(m): 11:03pm On Mar 12, 2013
femilek8: This terrorist group jumped to the forefront of the battle against Islamist terrorists in North Africa, when it kidnapped a French family from Cameroon. But who is this group? How did it start? And what role did Nigeria’s faction fighting have in its emergence? Here are 10 facts about Boko Haram.

Who is Boko Haram?

Boko Haram is the name of a large Islamist group fighting in northern Nigeria. Its aim is to establish an independent Islamic state under Sharia law. But this is only partially accurate. The group’s proper name is Jamā'atu Ahlis Sunnah Lādda'awatih wal-Jihad (People Committed to the Propagation of the Prophet's Teachings and Jihad). ‘Boko Haram’ was a dismissive name given by neighbours of the sect in its early years and means “Western Education Is Forbidden” in the Hausa language; alluding to the group’s hard-line belief that Western ideas, particularly from British colonialism, have turned Muslims away from the virtues of Islam.

How Boko Haram Got Started

The group originally formed in 2002 as a breakaway sect that eventually moved to a rural village, where it planned to run its own Sharia-based society. A conflict over fishing rights there soon involved the police, who were disarmed by the sect. Nigeria’s military cracked down brutally, killing most of the group. The survivors regrouped and started a new Islamic order, which grew thanks to broad unemployment and the charismatic leadership of Mohammed Yusuf.

Boko Haram Takes Its Gloves Off

In 2009 the group became more radical - Yusuf ordered the assassination of a critical local Muslim cleric. Another confrontation with police led to a riot and brutal state crackdown, leaving Yusuf and many followers dead. But the group soon emerged again, this time under the leadership of Yusuf’s right-hand man Abubakar Shekau. The event also saw members make contact with other Islamist groups, who helped train and arm the sect. Their violent retribution was soon blanketed by media and politicians as under Boko Haram

North/South Frictions

The Islamism of Boko Haram is just a part of the story. Nigeria suffers from incredible factional fighting, particularly between the North and South (YES INCREDIBLE KILLING SPREES MAINLY AND ONLY IN THE NORTH . THE FIRST OF WHICH WAS IN 1953 WHEN A MEMBER OF THE NIGERIAN PARLIAMENT FROM THE MID-WEST MR. ENAHORO MOVED A MOTION FOR NIGERIA TO BECOME AN INDEPENDENT SOVEREIGN NATION THIS SINGULAR ACT SPARKED THE KILLING OF OVER 2000 CHRISTIANS FROM THE SOUTH LIVING IN THE NORTH UNTIL THE COLONIAL POLICE INTERVENED. THESE KILLINGS OF SOUTHERNERS CONTINUED IN THE NORTH LONG AFTER THE CIVIL WAR & IS STILL ONGOING AT EVERY INTERVALS OF 5 YEARS AT LEAST 500 LIVES MUST BE LOST TO ISLAMIC IDEOLOGICALLY PROPELLED MASS ACTIONS. THE ONLY TIME ANY PART OF THE SOUTH ACTUALLY FOUGHT OR KILLED ANYBODY FROM THE NORTH AND SOUTH WEST WAS DURING THE WAR AGAINST THE IGBOS AND SOME SOUTHERN MINORITIES 1967 TO 1970 COS THE LATER WANTED TO FORM THEIR OWN NATION BIAFRA TO CURB THE REGULAR UNPROVOKED GENOSIDE OF THEIR KIT & KIN ESPECIALLY IN THE NORTH. DESPITE ALL THESE ATTACKS IN WHATEVER GUISE OF SOUTHERN XTIANS IN THE NORTH THERE HAS NEVER EVER BEEN A REPRISAL ATTACK OF ANY KIND BY THE SOUTHERNER ON NORTHERNERS LIVING IN THEIR REGION TILL DATE ) The North was an Islamic state since the early 19th century (SOME PARTS OF THE SO CALLED NORTH WHERE ISLAMIC STATES HOWEVER THE ORIGINAL INDIEGENES OF STATES LIKE GOMBE,BAUCHI,KADUNA,PLATEAU,NASARAWA,BENUE WERE AND STILL ARE CHRISTIANS BUT BECAUSE THE COLONIAL MASTERS LOVED THE HAUSAS THEY RE-LOCATED HAUSA ENMASS TO THESE AREAS AND MADE THEM RULERS OVER THESE OTHER NATIONS EVEN AS IS THE CASE IN THE LARGER NATION NIGERIA.) - this changed when the British forced the two parts into a single colony during the early 1900s(THIS WAS THE AMALGAMATION OF THE ALREADY RELIGIOUSLY MIXED NORTHERN AND SOUTHERN PROTECTORATES). A major flashpoint is between the northern Islamic Fulani and southern Christian Berom tribes (BEROM TRIBE OF PLATEAU STATE ARE NOT SOUTHER XTIANS THEY ARE BETTER CALLED NORTHERN CHRISTIANS COS THERE WHERE A PART OF NOTHERN NIGERIA EVEN THOUGH THEY SEEK TO LIBERATE THEIR NATION FROM NORTHERN MUSLIM OLIGARCHY JUST AS OTHER SO CALLED NORTHER XTIAN NATIONS. THE FLASH POINT FOR THE FRICTION BETWEEN BEROM AND THEIR HAUSA FULANI EX-PATRONS WAS IN 2001 WHEN OBJ ATTEMPTED TO OR MADE AN HUASA/FULANI THE HEAD OT THE NAPEP PROGRAME IN PLATEAU STATE BUT THE BEROM VIVIDLY RESISTED THIS IMPOSITION AND FORCED A BEROM IN THE PLACE OF THE HAUSA/FULANI AS NAPEP HEAD FOR THE STATE. THIS SINGULAR MOVE OUTRAGE THEIR EX-PATRON WHO PROMISED TO DISTRY THE STATE JUST AS CHIROMA PROMISED NIGERIANS. THEN ON FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 7 2001 AFTER THE MOSQUE PRAYERS THE HAUSA/FULANI MUSLIMS FLOODED THE STREET AND BLOOD FLOWED FREELY SINCE THEY HAVE ALWAY ENSURED IT HAS NOT CEASED TO FLOW AS THE BEROM WOULD RESIST) . The Berom have been accused of attacking the Fulani with government assistance, including cannibalism (THE BEROM HAVE CRIED NONE STOP FOR THE GOVERNMENT JTF TOP BE WITHDRAMN FROM THE PLATEAU COS DESPITE THE GOVERNMENT SECURITY PRESENCE THEIR CHILDREN ,WOMEN AND BABIES ARE KILLED REULARLY IN VILLAGE RAIDS BY HAUSA/FULANI GUNMEN THE REPORTED CASE OF CANNIBALISM IS FALSE AS WE ARE YET TO SEE EVIDENCE OF THIS HATEFUL PROPANGANDA). There were also the Jos riots(JOS RIOTS ARE SAME AS BEROM RIOTS), centring around a Nigerian city in the middle of the country - this escalated to a conflict between 2001 and 2004 that left over 50,000 people dead. Such events have often been cited by Boko Haram leadership as justification for its own brutal campaigns (IN JOS YES BUT IN MADUGURI AND NIGER IT IS WAR AGAINST XTIANS AND THE MOVEMENT TO ISLAMISE NIGERIA, WHILE THE EUROPEANS KILLED WAS WAR AGAINST THE WEST).

The Role Of Nigeria’s Police And Military

Though Boko Haram has plenty of blood on its hands, many also blame the police and military for adding to the fire(YOU MEAN THE POLICE AND MILITARY IN THOSE HOT-BEDS SHOULD JUST DIE WITHOUT A FIGHT? ). During the 2009 crackdown, the sect’s leader Mohammed Yusuf was dead within hours of his capture - police claim he was shot while escaping, but evidence suggest he was executed. The police and military also executed dozens of people without trial, often on the flimsy accusations of other religious groups which would usually get the slain person’s property as a reward. In other words, it turned into a witch hunt. Both police and military forces have been accused of torture and executions across Nigeria - from Niger Delta militants in the South to Northern sects like Boko Haram. Women and children have not been spared and the guilt of a person is rarely determined. The forces are also known for being very corrupt and police chiefs running their own fiefdoms are not uncommon(YES SOME POLICE OFFICER ARE REALLY INHUMAN IMAGINE ESCORTED A TERRORIST ACCUSED OF BOMBING A CHURCH WITH A 50 COUNT CHILDREN WOMEN AND MEN DEATHTOLL RECORDED OUT TO FREEDOM THIS TERRORIST IS CALLED KABIRU SOKOTO WHO HAS SAID FAROUK ABDULMUTTALAB WAS HIS MENTOR).

The Role Of Nigeria’s Government

Though Nigeria’s government has cast itself as a hapless victim of Islamic terrorism, it is anything but. Prosecutions of security forces committing murder and torture are practically non-existent. Political opportunism is also quite common: Nigeria’s president, Goodluck Jonathan, has often accused Boko Haram of being strongly tied to groups such as al-Qaeda, a claim that until recently has been false. He has used this as a means to convince countries such as the U.S. and Britain to send financial aid, downplaying the significant role regional politics have played in forming such factions (YOU ARE WRONG AS USUAL. IT IS THE OTHER WAY ROUND http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-18542030 ). Jonathan has also repeatedly accused the power elite in Nigeria’s north of controlling Boko Haram, even though experts agree that this is a complete fabrication. Political rivals have been arrested under flimsy charges that they were tied to the Islamists( THERE IS THIS SERVING NATIONAL HOUSE OF REPS MEMBER CALLED HUSSAIN DEI DEI A CPC\APC STRONG MAN FROM KADUNA STATE HE WAS FOUND WITH IMPROVISED EXPLOSIVE DEVICES USED IN BLOWING UP CHURCHES AND ATTEMPTING TO BLOW UP MOSQUE ALONG WITH SOPHISTICATED CATCH OF LETHAL ARMS/WEAPON INSHORT THIS MAN IS AN AMOURY FOR BOKOHARAM, ANOTHER IS SENATOR NDUME FROM BORNO WAS ROPED IN AS AN ACCOMPLICE OF BOKO HARAM AS HE PROVIDED THEM WITH PRIVILEGED CONTACT INFORMATION AND GUESS WHAT HE SIDE THE VP SAMBO WAS IN ON IT HOLD ON THE LIST IS ENDLESS BUT I WILL LIST ONE MORE IN THE PERSON OF SERVING SENATOR BAMA OF BORNO IN WHO'S HOUSE A DREADED BOKO HARAM WAS TRACED AND TRACKED DOWN TO AHMODU SHARIFFS ANPP 4MER GOVERNOR OF BORNO HOUSE WITH ALL THESE NAME YOU CAN SEE WITH JONATHAN.

The Crimes Of Boko Haram

Boko Haram, though, is no saintly organisation (THE WORD SAINT IN THE SAME SENTENCE WITH THE NAME BOKO HARAM IS LIKE THE WORD PIG IN THE SAME SENTENCE WITH I***M). Its hard-line views have led to many attacks and executions. The group targets Christians and Muslims alike , though it has a special liking for attacking police and military forces. These attacks have occurred several times a week, if not daily, since 2010. It has also killed children and blown up schools, not to mention medical personnel, religious buildings, sports venues, people playing cards games - the list goes on. The group does not limit its forms of violence either: kidnappings, car bombs, suicide bombers, drive-by shootings and beheadings all form part of its repertoire. But the biggest problem is distinguishing between violence orchestrated by Boko Haram and other factions.(YOU ARE FOOL OF LIES AND SEEKING AMNESTY FOR TERRORIST)

Who Is and Isn’t Boko Haram?

Practically every bombing, gun attack and kidnapping is attributed to Boko Haram by Nigeria’s government. In reality it is not so clear-cut. For example, a foiled plot to bomb a church turned out not to be by the group, but by a rival Christian faction. Likewise, Boko Haram has not claimed responsibility for some kidnappings and events such as the recent execution of polio vaccinators. Criminal gangs have also used Boko Haram to disguise their own illegal activities. Late last year the group Human Rights Watch estimated that nearly 3,000 people have died in this conflict since 2009, yet noted that state security forces were as responsible for executions as Boko Haram. Several splinter Islamist groups have also surfaced, orchestrating attacks that are usually pinned on Boko Haram without any proof.

Going To War With The West

The Islamist sect has largely not targeted Western interests - Boko Haram has been violently active in Nigeria since 2009, but only rose to international attention when it bombed a U.N. building in 2011. Since then its focus on non-Nigerian targets have largely been kidnappings, of which there have been several. Most recently a French family was abducted by the group and in 2011 its fighters captured two British and Italian men - both died when British special forces tried to rescue them. The group has also been linked to the kidnapping or murders of French, German, Chinese and Indian foreigners. But despite claims to the contrary, Boko Haram’s links with other Islamist terror groups only became galvanised when French forces entered Mali. Since then the group has placed a lot more focus on international targets.(I DONT HAVE TIME FOR THIS!!!!!!)

A Chance For Peace?

One thing that almost universally agreed on is that there is no chance that Boko Haram and Nigeria’s government will make peace. Setting aside the decades of ill-will felt by the country’s North towards the South, Nigeria’s rulers are not making it easy. In 2012 a cleric mediating talks between the sect and government withdrew, accusing the government of insincerity. Boko Haram, though a singular large group, is also very disparate. Organised into numerous cells, there is no guarantee that what one part of the group agrees to will be supported by the rest. Last year a Boko Haram commander proposed peace talks with the government, but nothing came of this because there was no indication that he spoke for the entire organisation.(ANYONE WHO BUY YOU GARBAGE IS A TERROR APOLOGIST)

France needs to take decisive measures to save the lives of their citizens even though the Nigerian Government will throw it weight behind such a move, however deliberating over it will cook up resistance from the northern political leaders who all this while have been frustrating efforts from within the government to nip this evil from the bud.

Has the Igbo man ever killed any yoruba man in the se or ss? You are too HOT!! I dnt know if this still obtains but I remember when i was in primary school in lagos in 1987, then all class 6 pupils had to write comon entrance to get placement into FEDERAL And STATE secondary schools it puzzled me then to find the the cut off mark for yoruba and Hausa where lower than that impossed on the iybos by at least 30points so even though we where in the same class and taught by the same teachers the SE where dissadvantagged from the word go. so mr iit should be the iybo that should be bitter not you.

honeric01: No, it simply means they have nothing on him, he's their number 1 enemy, so why should they spare him if truly they have anything on him? Even as popular as Abiola was to the west, he was still killed, so what makes GEJ and his "killer govt" not arrest Buhari if he actually has hands in the death of people during election and boko haram mayhem?

Please spare me the nonsense about " In the Interest of National unity certain areas or people are sacrificed", you're not talking to a foool here.
The southern politicians are not as daring as their northern counterparts. The south of this country revere life and have a strong fear of God and respect. let me ask you this and answer me truthfully:
It is not just buhari you should wonder about.
You should also wonder why such a mass murderer like kabiru sokoto should walk out of police custody?
why senator ndume is not prosecuted?
why sambo who was indicted by ndume is still vp.
why the sultan of sokoto should object and reject the changes in jaji after the bombing with a bomb from the amoury?
and finally
IF THE OIL IN NIGERIA WHERE IN SOKOTO KANO AND MAIDUGURI WOULD WILL we HAVE AN ENTITY CALLED NIGERIA?

That is the beauti of this country? In the Interest of National unity certain areas or people are sacrificed. Look at that Madalla mastermind Kabiru sokoto who killed more than 50 innocent xtian people including children who was excorted by the police out to freedom. And remember also that this Guy was arrested in The governors house in the company of a serving airforce officer. Yu see the BH matter is very wide spread. Jihad is supported by all Northern muslims and they will play their role when called upon. GEJ is not fully aware of his powers so he is scare of rocking the boat in the interest on National unity but the other side has no such considerations

Some nairalanders comment on the length of the interview, and that failed them having first hand information on Baba's history, this is pathetic.

If they have anything on Buhari concerning Boko haram and other violence, he should be made to face the law, if not, they should all hide their heads in shame including you beer parlor rumor monger.

GEJ is not the problem the problem is people like Buhari read this....> "Day Lam Adesina clashed with Buhari, Marwa, others

It was on 13 October 2000, when words went round that General Muhammadu Buhari was leading the Arewa team to the governor’s office to confront the state over alleged killings of Fulani cattle rearers in Saki, Oke Ogun Area of the state. Buhari did actually telephone the governor that he was leading a team to his office.

In less than 30 minutes after the general informed the governor of his visit, we noticed that the entire secretariat was already filled with lorry loads of our brothers from the North. This created some tension but we kept our calm. At about 2 p.m., Buhari arrived in a long convoy at the governor’s office in company of the former governor of Lagos State, General Buba Marwa, Alhaji Aliko Muhammed, Alhaji Abdulrazak and Alhaji Hassan. They all wore long faces. In fact, the anger in them was palpable as all pleasantries extended to them were ignored. “This is trouble” was the expression on the faces of all of us in the governor’s office.

Shortly afterwards, the state Director of State Security Service (SSS) and Commissioner of Police arrived. But their presence did not change anything particular on the fears that had already gripped majority of us. The two security chiefs did not come with any operatives, they came almost alone.

The meeting was called to order after Lam walked into the Executive Chambers. Introductions over, Buhari spoke on their mission to the governor’s office. Emitting fire, the general accused Lam and the government of Oyo State of complicity in the killing of over 68 Fulani people in Oke Ogun area and perversion of justice.

His words: “Your Excellency, our visit here is to discuss with you and your government our displeasure about the incident of clashes between two peoples… the Fulani cattle rearers and merchants are today being harassed , attacked and killed like in Saki. In the month of May, 2000, 68 bodies of Fulani cattle rearers were recovered and buried under the supervision and protection from a team of Mobile Police from Oyo State Command.

“ That some arrests were made by Oyo State Police Command in the massacre with their immediate release without court trial. This was said to have been ordered by Oyo State authorities and they were so released to their amazement. The release of the arrested suspects gave the clear impression that the authorities are backing and protecting them to continue the unjust and illegal killings of Fulani cattle rearers…”

According to the general, they therefore wanted immediate stoppage of the killings, justice and compensation to the Fulanis.

As weighty and indicting as Buhari’s allegations were, Lam remained unperturbed. He fired back with his own well coordinated arsenals.

Lam identified all the points raised by Buhari and simply asked the heads of the organizations directly involved to respond to the allegations.

First to speak was the Commissioner of Police who debunked all the claims. Instead of the allegation that the natives were killing Fulanis, the commissioner said pointedly that the opposite was the case.

“ The killing of the natives by the Fulanis was duly reported to the police and, of course, we can’t make arrest because, as soon as they kill, they migrate to other areas. Who are you going to arrest? That is the problem”. On the killing of Fulanis, which he said was as result of “piled up anger”, the commissioner disclosed that arrests had been made and the suspects were in police custody.

Next was the Director of SSS, who equally debuked the allegations by Buhari. “The natives don’t have problem with the Fulanis who are resident but those who are coming in, they don’t care about anybody. They just go ahead and when they graze the natives farms, whoever cares to challenge them runs into trouble. You said 68 people were killed , and people driven away. I am not saying there were no killings but they cannot be more than five. The petition is on the harsh side, there is nothing like that.”

Not done yet, Lam called in his Deputy, Barrister Iyiola Oladokun; his SSG, Chief Michael Koleoso, both from Oke Ogun, and the chairman of one of the affected local government areas, Mr Ademola Alalade. They stated the true position of things, corroborating the submissions of the security chiefs. At this point, all the tensions and apprehensions evaporated.

Trust Lam any day, he must rub it in. He spoke for about 20 minutes and the generals were at the edge of their seats for the entire period. They were like chicken that had just been thoroughly beaten by the rain.

Lam said: “ Before I thank you for this visit, you have come to tell me something. I also want to tell you something and that something is to make an appeal. General Buhari has been a former Head of State, Brigadier Marwa has governed Lagos for some time and with credibility… so you are national leaders of this country. Even though, by accident of birth, you are from the North, you can be born anywhere; may be next time when I am coming to the world, I will be born in the North or the South-South.

“My appeal will be that effort must be made to unite this country and that will be ïn the best interest of all Nigerians. I am appealing to the Arewa Consultative Forum, under which auspices our distinguished Nigerians are here; in recent times, they have been sending wrong signals to a number of us who believe in the unity and peace of Nigeria; you have been too critical of the efforts of the Federal Government. I am saying this because Nigeria, at this point, cannot afford to break and the words you northern leaders utter are very weighty, at the South here, we normally analyze them critically”.

On all the allegations, he said: “From what they have written in the petition, this government is completely blameless because we don’t interfere either with the judiciary or with the police functions. I always preach peaceful co-existence in Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole. We are all Nigerians and that is what we have been preaching all along and we shall continue to be Nigerians , no matter the present or immediate problems which will be solved by the grace of Allah.

“I want to say also that we really have to appeal to our people, the itinerant Bororo people, that they should observe less aggression. It is not good , it is not right just coming from somewhere then you just pass through farm lands cultivated may be with the person’s life savings and then over night everything is gone. That is not right, even Allah does not approve of that.

We even wonder when they talk about this people carrying dangerous weapons, I say do they really believe in Allah? When you just take life like that and go away! Are we not forbidden not to take human life? So I think General Buhari, General Marwa, you have to be educating them… It is my pleasure to inform you that at the Presidential Lodge, we have made some arrangements for refreshments so that before you go we can refresh together”.

Buhari and his team did not wait for any refreshments. They came in angry and left bewildered. ADIEU! GREAT LAM!

*OLAOSEBIKAN, WAS CHIEF PRESS SECRETARY TO ALHAJI LAM ADESINA

Of course his political foes would be happy that he died;so also would the supporters of his successor because heaven has buttered their bread. Does anyone doubt that even fellow christians that are jostling for the position of deputy governor are not smiling inside them for the opprtunity created by Yakowa's exit. some people are just over-sensationalising the alleged jubilation- alleged, because not a single picture has been posted anywhere of such jubilation.

How did he got the millions of votes to win if he just for you? Just asking.
If poster had not used the word "US" would you not think that the entire Kd was agog with jubilation. It is imperative he makse the distinction for ignorants to fully understand the situation. helpmeohgod: Why Do Nigerians Celebrate Whenever A Leader Dies, Starting From Abacha Era?

Pls can someone explain the cause of jubilation in Nigeria whenever a leader dies? It was on record that when former president Murtala Muhammed died in the 60's it mourning and sadness to the extent that Dimka the coup plotter killer was aprehended, and killed. But that was the last Nigerians will ever mourn the death of a leader genuinely.
When president Abacha died, majority was seen in the street drinking and dancing, and now with the death of Yakowa and Azazi, even in these site people are making funj of their death.
In Ghana, the former president's death brought tears. To Ghananians and even to Nigerians, and in America, a citizen's death is a calamity not to talk of the president's death.
Someone please explain the reason behind this Nigerian attitude
It all depends on the leaders in question. When Awolowo, AZikiwe,... etc died Nigerians mourned. But if you are thinking of SANI ABACHA. Indeed Nigerian celebrated because they felt relief and release from the grip of an absolute DICTATOR who had ambitions to make Nigeria his empire while the entire nation watched in helplessness.

There appeared to be celebration when Umaru YarAdua was eventually declared dead not because Nigerians did not love him but because a group of people had held the NIgeria State, Nigerians to ransom They were countless demonstrations by Nigerian to see that the constitution is respected and the then VP assumes office in the absence of his boss but a group was able to swim against they tide and desires of Nigerians creating anger and tension in many Nigerians using the secrecy around the disposition of the late Yaradua as a smoke screen to insult Nigeria and its constitution. So when the truth eventually emerged many Nigerians where felt relief and so they celebrated the release.

In the case of Patrick Yakowa(RIP) just as the over 1000 people killed on september 11 2007 in the USA the celebrations in Kano and Kaduna are better seen as Happiness over the fall of an unbeliever non-muslim who's position as a natural leader over their affairs comes totally rejected.

Generally most people in the southern, north central(middlebelt) parts of Nigeria are very patient people who will smile while suffering and so will take all rubbish and express happiness when freed. But will never wish evil on fellow people, in contrast the situation in the far north is intolerant and Violently disposed to securing the advantage for themselves by any means they donot have the moral restraint to draw the line especially when it has to do with religious or regional interest and so will celebrate the deaths of an innocent.
