Had a bitter experience with all the shipping lines except for Grimaldi. The lastest one was a 03 Accord, all the AC Nubs, both power controls,both side mirrors and the car key was not spared. I'm filing a claim with the shiping company to see if anything can be done cos it will cost me more than 50k to fix all these. Anytime i ship toyota camry tru AES/FIVE STAR, I definately know the driver side power window will be gone especially for 97 - 2001 Camry. I hope and pray that something will surely be done about this.
Christianity Etc › Re: Why Do Youths Leave The Catholic Church? by calculusx(m): 9:16am On Mar 13, 2012
Lack of understanding the catholic doctrine, tradition, practises and poverty is what made people including the older ones to leave the catholic church.
As someone has rightly said, people want to be recognized. I could remember how Charismatic Renewal started few years ago when a member of Catholic Charismatic Renewal in Regina Mundi Catholic Church Mushin left the church with lots of igbo catholics to start his own church. Believe me, some of them are back to The same parish.
I believe they left Catholic Church because they lack knowledge and belief in Catholic Doctrine. I personally cant attend a church that is owned by 1 person. What happens if the founder dies? What happens?
Christianity Etc › Re: Why Do Youths Leave The Catholic Church? by calculusx(m): 8:29am On Mar 13, 2012
I can say the BEST legacy i got from my parent is to be born in a Catholic Family. Catholics have it all but majority of Catholics don't appreciate what they have. I once left the Catholic Church in search of truth and stuffs i do not understand in the faith not knowing what i was looking for in sokoto is inside my sokoto.
Christianity Etc › Re: Why Do Youths Leave The Catholic Church? by calculusx(m): 8:25am On Mar 13, 2012
@ 991 People like you do not pay attention or never attend the catechism class. Its peeps like you that come to mass late,seat outside or at the back and cant even remember what the first reading was about. You need to start your catechism class all over. Car Talk › Re: Are High Mileage Cars Really That Bad? by calculusx(m): 8:15am On Mar 13, 2012
" we nigerians wants very nice cars but doesnt want to spend the appropriate money, secondly we rather buy a shining car without checking on the history of this car than if the truth is written about a car "

" There are a lot of cheap buyers in nigeria so guess what we get what we deserve even the professional sellers "

Most buyers don't know what to look out for when purchasing a Car. All they believe is low mileage and Clean Car but when you tell them the price, they label you with so many names telling you their neighbor got his own for so so amount. I think some buyers deserve what they got forgetting nothing good comes easy.

Maintenance is the Key

It shall be well with you Calculux, only say u don dey join Auto cabal for nairaland small small grin grin grin

meaning if there are several ways, there would be some people- not agents I mean actual owners willing to let go a 2003 Honda accord @ somewhat ridiculous price,
My dear brother, there is nothing like Cabal on NL and i must also reiterate that Cars are cheaper on NL than Western Avenue,Surulere,Agidingbi,berger,Lekki axis and Ikorodu road for so many reasons.
Do you ask how many dealers from the said locations are on NL? {Very few}. Is it that they don't know about NL? {NO}. Most of them are not on NL because majority of buyers on NL are expose and are also aware of the pros and cons when buying cars. They get good deals from passersby who doesn't know much about what they are buying. I have SOLD so many cars to dealers along Ikorodu road who will resell to their mugu for ridiculous amount i dare nt advertise on NL. Please let us appreciate NL for the exposure and for so many other lesson learnt here. grin grin

@kuntash, if you need a 2003 Honda EOD, there are ways to go about it but with conditions.

1. This isn't the best time to get a good deal that will land 2003 EOD for 1.3m

2. I will not contribute my personal $1 to the Purchase. All funds will be paid for by the buyer

3. With the exchange rate of 159.5 Naira to 1$, if $ can be @ this rate or lower between October - 1st week in January 2013, you can get 2003 EOD for 1.3m {Clean Title with a minor repair}

It is always good to be strong willed in what you believe.
I am being tempted to go on a search journey with you. . . . . if you are willing to cool cool

You find the car, revert to me or any other dealer u can 'trust' and then we do a due diligence.
and then give u the landing cost.
Also, you can go to IAA or Copart and register as a guest assuming u don't have time to get a full licence
At least as a guest, u can watch bids online and follow the process and see how sales end. Thereafter, revert to me with your findings
My emails and phone  numbers are on my signature.

But one thing is certain, you can't land a quality, accident free, one user unit for the price people like you will want it.
It is always good to research and reinforce your beliefs.

If interested let me know. U can go to my thread and see the links i posted for 3 EODs
Follow them and let's see what they sell for. I have already added them to my watch list and will follow the auctions if you are willing to
go on a the ride with me cool cool cool
I'm following the iaai listings too bumper to bumper and I HOPE I will win all the three listings for a landing cost of 1.3m  grin  grin  grin

Another example to show its almost impossible to buy a 2003 Honda Accord for 1.3m. The 2003 Honda Accord below was sold for $4800 {Including Auction fee} Today.

Cost on Auction $4800 {including auction fee}
Trucking to Port 300
Shipping 1200
Agent fee 500
-------------------------------
Total $6,800 * 160 Naira per $ {#1,088,000}

Cost of Repair: 2 headlamps,Front Bumper,front grill,painting,radiator and probably fog-lamp to be estimated @ #100,000

#1,088,000
+ #100,000
+ #250,000 Clearing in Lagos
-------------------------
#1,438,000 Total

There is no magic any dealer can do to land 2003 EOD for 1.3 including his marginal gain of 100k, except if he is selling a lemon. My little Pence

Autos › Great News For Car Buyers, Bad News For "some" Auto Dealers by calculusx(op): 9:01am On Mar 06, 2012
Sometime last year I could remember a Shipping line came with a Policy charging additional $150 for Non-Running Cars due to safety issues. For all Cars to be exported to Africa especially Nigeria, the shipping line will start the Cars,leave them to RUN for at least 30mins and during the process they check so many safety measures before the Car can be certify OK to be exported, Cars that were jump-start was also rejected.
One of my Unit fall under this Category simply because of water leakage from the washer fluid which took me $450 {re-trucking back and forth to port cost me $300} to be fixed and the unit could meet up with the Vessel.
Here is the great news for Car buyers and BAD News for "SOME" Car dealers who buy scrap cars to maximize their profit. With this New Policy, buyer's confidence will be higher knowing they are not buying Non-Running Cars, excessive damaged cars, tow-on, and forklift units. Though this Policy is only applied to a AES INC.

To whom it may concern,

Due to an increased volume of damaged, tow-on, and forklift units being delivered for our West Africa service with Mitsui Lines, we regretfully are putting into effect a policy that we can no longer accept this type of cargo. This decision has been based on the safety of the personnel working the vessels and also repeated damage to the ship carrying these types of goods.
Unfortunately, any self-propelled vehicles that fall into this category will automatically be rejected at the time of delivery to the terminal, (MA, NJ, DE, MD, or FL). Vehicles that will be accepted must drive under their own power, have proper steering and braking, and also both doors must be able to open without issue.
We apologize in advance for this decision that has been made; however, we hope that you understand our position that the safety of the operation is our first priority. Thank you for your cooperation during this time of change and your continued support.

**As of March 2, 2012, A.E.S. will no longer be accepting forklift or tow-on vehicles with our Mitsui and Hoegh Autoliners service to West Africa. If you receive a dock receipt and your vehicle falls into this category, it will be rejected at the time of delivery to the port (MA, NJ, DE, MD, & FL)**

Autos › Re: Cant Someone Get A Good Car Deal On Nairaland? by calculusx(m): 8:30am On Mar 06, 2012
Its IMPOSSIBLE to get 2003 EOD for 1.3m. Without looking current prices on many car sites in USA, lets take a look at this 2003 Honda Accord, leather seat,wood grain, full option as they call it.
Despite the fact the it was classed under NON-REPAIRABLE and offered for sale at a time when Car are extremely cheap in USA,December to be precise, the Car was sold for $4,600 including all auction fees

Calculation:
Buyout fee                            $4600:00
Trucking to port                         300:00 {may be higher or lower}
Agent's Commission                  500:00
FedEx fee to send BOL              100:00
Shipping                                  1,200:00
                                       -------------------
Total                                      $6,700:00 * #166 Naira as at December

Equivalent in Naira              1,112,200:00
Clearing/delivery                    250,000:00
                                      ----------------------
Total                                  #1,362,200:00
Fixing/Painting                          30,000:00
                                     ------------------------
                                        #1,392,200:00  Approximately 1.4m with all things been equal

Adding dealer's gain of about #150,000 averagely make it 1,550,000 and this is an average price to get a 2003 EOD

Let us have it on mind that 1. The said car below falls under NON-REPAIRABLE Category {pls lets be careful with the way the oyinbo use their english. Non-repairable doesn't mean the Car can not be repaired. They have their reasons and measures why a Car can fall into any category}

2. Car was sold when cars are cheaper in USA. If its to be on sale this time of the year, im sure the Car will be sold for over $5000
When a deal is too good to be true, it could be a lemon Enough said  grin

Autos › Re: Cant Someone Get A Good Car Deal On Nairaland? by calculusx(m): 3:20am On Mar 06, 2012
chucky234:
I think N1.3m is a fair price for a 2003 EOD because my friend sold a first grade 2005 EOD shipped in from the US for N1.5m,many car dealers here overprice their cars.
I have top car dealers in the US,recently my white friend in VA sold his clean 2006 Chrysler M300 for $10,000. Most of these cars come in containers and a 40FCT can take up to 4 cars,shipping by Roro is as cheap as $800 to Lagos seaports.

Great as this thread made it to the front page. Most Car buyers are not aware of what they are buying, all they are after is the exterior part of the Car and not the mechanical/electrical parts of the Car.
Anyway sorry to derail this thread, i have 2 units of 2003 Honda Accord {leather/fabric} schedule to arrive this month for an amount between 1.50m - 1.60m. No abeg sir,my money no complete. If you cant afford a tokunbo car,go for Nigerian used as some of them will pass for tokunbo.

Nice one.
Just a thought, i want to load some of the spare parts i wanna use for the fixing
of the CR-V i posted above into the unit and ship it RORO. . . but i am a bit sceptical cos of Wharf theft.

Have u done something in this nature before and what's ur experience?
If you are shipping via grimaldi, you can put every parts into the unit but if shipping through AES and others, i will advise you couple/fix the parts like the pics below because of those boys in wharf.
