Chigbohu Obiora, a big drug dealer and trafficker has been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos with over 97 wraps of cocaine.

Mr Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA Director, Media and Advocacy made it open to the press on Friday in Abuja.

Mr Femi said that Chigbohu who is 46 years was caught by the operatives of the NDLEA on Sunday, April, 25 on the inward clearance of Ethiopian Airline.

Femi added that Chigbohu, who came to Lagos on board the airline from Entebbe, Uganda via Addis-Ababa, Ethiopia, was subsequently observed.

He also made reasons why Obiora had so far digested 97 wraps of substances that tested positive to cocaine with a total weight of 1.55 kilogramme and a street value of N360 million.

He quoted MR Ahmadu Garba, the NDLEA Commander, MMIA Commander to say that Chigbohu was caught in the E-arrival hall of the airport by their operatives as they suspected he took in hard substances.

He said;

“The suspect was taken for body machine scan and the result was positive for ingestion of substance suspected to be illicit drug. The suspect was promptly moved to the NDLEA excretion and observation facility.”

“Barely an hour after he was arrested, Obiora excreted 31 wraps of cocaine weighing 500 grammes and another 47 wraps (750 grammes) in the evening of same day.”

“Nineteen wraps (300 grammes) were excreted the following day, Monday 26th April, bringing the total to 97 wraps, that is, 1.55 kg”.

Yekini Nabena, who is the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has made complains on Rev Father Ejike Mbaka. Saying that he is commiting a crime by threatening the reign of the Nigerian President Buhari.

His action was because of a prophecy said by Father Mbaka when he said president Buhari should either resign or be impeached because of the problem if insecurities the country is facing at the moment.

He added that the priest who is supposed to use “all known spiritual means of averting crisis” is instead “threatening a democratically elected government for his own personal benefit while pretending to be speaking for the people”.

“One will wonder whom Father Mbaka is emulating because the Lord Jesus Christ did not threaten to bring down the government during his own time, in fact, Jesus Christ obeyed and honoured constituted authority,” Yekini added.

“That’s why he paid his tax. We are calling on Father Mbaka to concentrate on his spiritual calling and stop speaking like politicians who it is obvious he (Mbaka) has been dining and wining with.”

“If Mbaka has found another political ally, it is better to leave a political message for politicians.”

“Calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to either resign or be impeached because of the current challenges is ungodly.

“Father Mbaka should not, however, take his luck too far because there is a lot to tell the Vatican and the Pope about his person and his sources of inspiration.”

So sad that today in history, we remember the death of Chief Onuora Nzekwu, who was a well known writer, broadcaster and book author. Onuora is from Onitsha, Anambra state. In May 1966, he wrote the popular novel,
EZE GOES TO SCHOOL, which went viral and gave him game and much visibility.

Chief Onuora died on this day 2017, aged 89.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and tertiary institutions across the country have agreed to close admissions for the 2020/2021 academic session on June 15, 2021.

This was the consensus at the weekend’s virtual meeting attended by heads of tertiary institutions, JAMB’s Head of Information, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, announced this in a statement yesterday in Abuja.

The statement said the board’s Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, leveraged on the meeting to know the progress tertiary institutions had made on the 2020/21 admissions.

It added that the goal of the interactive meeting was to forestall an endless admission regime generated by series of disruptions, especially as caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the statement, the meeting would enable the board to put necessary machinery in place for the 2021/2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME/DE) registration.

“After a robust and insightful deliberation, members collectively agreed that all public universities are expected to finish their admissions on or before May 15, 2021, while the private universities and all IEIs, polytechnics and colleges of education (COEs) would complete theirs at the agreed date of June 15, 2021....... Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has demanded the release of Salisu Tanko-Yakassai, a former Special Adviser on Media to Kano Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.

Tanko-Yakassai was arrested by the Department of State Services shortly after criticizing President Muhammadu Buhari on Twitter.

Falana in a statement on Sunday titled “Asking Buhari to resign is not an offense” condemned the arrest of Yakassai.

He recalled that Buhari and other chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were not arrested when they demanded the resignation of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Falana stated that since such concerned citizens were never arrested, the harassment of Yakassai is high-handed, discriminatory, and illegal.

Falana demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Mr Tanko-Yankassai from illegal custody.

Three persons including a woman have allegedly been kidnapped by armed bandits in Katcha town, Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State in an operation directly opposite the Police Barracks.

The incident it was gathered occurred on Sunday morning between 1 am to 3 am.

We learnt that the bandits who arrived in large numbers attacked shops particularly beer parlour operators located at the outskirts of the town behind the Divisional Police Officer, DPO’s house.

Eyewitnesses said the bandits shot sporadically into the air to scare residence without help from the police and carried away three persons.

Confirming the attack, the local government chairman, Hon. Mohammed Baba Nna said the bandits invaded the town in an operation that lasted three hours.

He also explained that presently the whereabouts of the three people abducted were still unknown.

“They came with very sophisticated weapons and I am sure that’s why the Policemen were afraid to come to their rescue during the incident.”

Cameroonian soldiers raped at least 20 women, including four with disabilities, and killed a man in a raid last year in an English-speaking secessionist region, Human Rights Watch said Friday.

HRW said the attack against the village of Ebam, in the country’s southwest, was one of the worst the army has committed in its four-year battle with armed separatists.

A number of soldiers rounded up men, while others raped at least 20 women, including four with disabilities, the activist group said in a statement after speaking by phone to survivors and witnesses between August and January.

It added a 34-year-old man was killed by soldiers in a forest surrounding the village.

Witnesses were quoted as saying that more than 50 soldiers entered Ebam by foot before dawn on March 1 last year, in retaliation against civilians suspected of cooperating with separatist fighters, including offering them shelter.

In 2017, resentment over years of perceived discrimination at the hands of Cameroon’s francophone majority resulted in a declaration of independence by anglophone radicals.

Their self-declared state, Ambazonia, has not been recognised internationally, and the central government in Yaounde has responded with a crackdown.

“Sexual violence and torture are heinous crimes that governments have an obligation to immediately, effectively, and independently investigate, and to bring those responsible to justice,” said Ida Sawyer, deputy Africa director at Human Rights Watch.

“One year on, survivors of the Ebam attack are desperate for justice and reparations, and they live with the disturbing knowledge that those who abused them are walking free and have faced no consequences.”

The army declined to comment when contacted by AFP.

One 40-year-old woman told HRW that five masked soldiers entered her home.

“One of them abused me. He said: ‘If you don’t have sex with me, I will kill you!’. I was too afraid to say or do anything,” the woman told the rights group.

“After the rape, I ran into the bush where I spent two months. I am still upset and traumatised.”

None of the rape victims could receive medical care immediately after the attack partly because of cost of treatment and social stigma, said HRW, who nonetheless interviewed a doctor who later screened the women.

HRW also said that soldiers took at least 36 men to a nearby military base where they beat them and used violence that amounted to torture.

Villagers also reported soldiers stole money and other items from the homes they broke into.

Rights groups have accused both the separatists and government troops of having killed civilians during the separatist conflict since 2017.

Suspected armed bandits raided a school dormitory in Zamfara overnight, a teacher and parent told AFP on Friday, raising fears of another mass kidnapping in the Northern region.

Bandits kidnap schoolgirls in Jangebe, Zamfara

“More than 300 girls are unaccounted for after a headcount of remaining students,” said a teacher at the Government Girls Secondary School Jangebe who asked to remain anonymous.

He said the attack happened around 1:00 am (midnight GMT) but did not provide details on the number of students present in the school at the time.

Heavily-armed criminal gangs in northwest and central Nigeria have stepped up attacks in recent years, kidnapping for ransom, raping and pillaging.

Just last week, 42 people were taken by a gang from a school in nearby Niger state.

In December, more than 300 boys were kidnapped from a school in December in Kankara, President Muhammadu Buhari’s home state of Katsina, while he was visiting the region.

The boys were later released but the incident triggered outrage and memories of the kidnappings of schoolgirls by jihadists in Dapchi and Chibok that shocked the world.

A parent told AFP he had received a call about the latest incident in Zamfara.

Justice Patricia Ajoku of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan has sentenced an internet fraudster, Mathew Daniel Ogwuche (a.k.a Karlee Grey), to seven months in prison after finding him guilty of impersonation in a criminal charge filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan zonal office.

The 22-year-old secondary school dropout was convicted on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 as the judge held that the Commission successfully proved the allegation of impersonating one Karlee Grey to defraud people through the use of the internet.

The offence is contrary to Section 22(2)(b)(ii) of Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc) Act, 2015 and punishable under Section 22(2)(b) of the same Act.

The trial of a former governor of Kaduna State, Muktar Ramalan Yero, before Justice Z. B. Abubakar of the Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna continued on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 ...with the tendering of evidence by the first prosecution witness (PW1), Jonah Abimaje.

Yero is being prosecuted by the Kaduna Zonal Office of the EFCC over his alleged involvement in the ‘sharing’ of N700million provided by former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke to influence the outcome of the 2015 presidential election.

Abimaje, who was Head of Operations at Ahmadu Bello Branch Kaduna, and acting regional Head of Operations, Ali Akilu Branch of a new generation bank in 2015, had during his testimony at the last sitting (January 21, 2021) narrated how monies received by the bank from the Central Bank of Nigeria was collected by the defendants.

The witness testified to the effect that, the said sum was paid to the 2nd and 4th defendants in cash, to which they signed a 'collection form' individually as evidence of collection.

At the resumed sitting today, Abimaje, while being led in evidence by counsel to the EFCC, Nasiru Salele, tendered two receipts of cash collected by the defendants.

The admissibility of the documents was strongly objected to by the defence who argued that the documents were not properly certified and that such document ought to be tendered through an officer of the Commission and not through a private witness from the bank.

The senator representing Lagos East Senatorial district, Tokunbo Abiru has donated 150,000 facemasks to teachers and pupils of primary schools in his constituency on Monday, February 22.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan Zonal Office, on Monday, February 22, 2021, secured conviction of one Oluwatoyin Henry before Justice Sherifat Adeyemi of the Oyo State High Court, sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State on one count of obtaining by false pretence.

The charge reads: “That you Oluwatoyin Henry sometimes in 2019, at Ogbomosho, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of One Thousand Two Hundred United States of America Dollars (USD$1,200) from one Betty Mosley, when you falsely represented to him that you are a citizen of United States of America by name Amanda, who is in love with him which representations you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence.”

The convict, who claimed to be a student of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho a pleaded guilty to the amended charge after a plea bargain agreement with the prosecution.

Based on his plea, he was convicted and sentenced to six months in prison.
