Ezeneche Uzochukwu a Nigerian and five others has been arrested in Bangkok over a romance scam of N2billion.

A police search of seven locations in Bangkok, Nakhon Sawan, Phuket and Pathum Thani on Monday, led to the arrest of the six suspects, Pol Maj Gen Suwat Saengnoom, chief of the Crime Suppression Division, said on Wednesday May 26.

According to the Bangkok media, the suspects were identified as Ms. Punyawee Chusinjiraphat, 46; Mr. Ezeneche Uzochukwu Jorome, 44, a Nigerian national; Ms. Sasithorn Nuankaew, 22; Mr. Sudjai Kamnon, 34; Mr. Thotsaphol Siripru, 33, and Mr. Nirandon Thianthavorn, 29., were arrested on Monday, May 25, and charged with conspiracy to defraud and putting false information into the computer system

The report states that the arrest came after a victim filed a complaint with Pol Maj Gen Jirabhop Bhuridej, deputy commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), last year, saying she had been swindled out of 1 million baht in a romance scam. The Crime Suppression Division of Bangkok police then began an investigation and found that the gang, comprising both Thais and foreign nationals, had colluded in swindling the complainant.

Police investigations revealed that one member of the gang opened an Instagram account under the name Mr Lanny Gray. He then approached the victim, claiming to be an American businessman working in Malaysia. After befriending the victim, the man switched to communicating through the Line chat app, sending numerous messages and promising to live in Thailand with her. After gaining her trust, he told her she would send parcels containing valuable items to her.

The police say another gang member, a Thai, later contacted the victim by phone, claiming to be an agent from a shipping firm and telling her to pay fees to receive the parcels. The woman had paid almost 1 million baht but had yet to receive any packages, said Pol Maj Gen Suwat.

The second in command to the suspected IPOB terrorist leader known as Awurum Eze, aged 48 was arrested by the security officers in Abia state.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Economic Financial Crime Commission [EFCC] said the media is also a help in the fight against economic and financial crimes. Muhtar Bello, the Benin zonal Officer made this address, represented by Head, Public Affairs Department, Williams Oseghale when he openly welcomed members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, that visited the office as part of a joyous way to celebrate and commemorate World Press Freedom Day.

Murtar Bello said that the important aspect of the media cannot be over emphasized as it is constitutionally empowered to hold the government accountable to the people. According to him, the Commission will continue to partner with the Nigeria media in the fight against corruption.

He said;
"The Commission recognises it cannot win the fight against corruption without the media. We encouraged you to always use your platforms to expose corruption. We wish to thank you for your continuous support for the Commission."

Earlier today on twitter, a Nigerian girl was declared missing by a guy expected to be her brother because he made the announcement.

The guy identified as @trek_bee on twitter made the post with the photos of his sister. The missing girl identified as munachim chukwuma onyia has gone missing for about 10 days now and the parents of the child have reported to the nearest police station.

It was also reported that she was last seen at the early hours of last week Thursday in her office in victoria island.

Controversial actor and Nigerian model, Alex Ekubo, has suprised the internet as he chose to move to a new chapter of his life, he proposed to Fancy Acholonu who has been the apple of his eye since.

Ekubo and Acholonu first sparked dating rumours back in 2018 with sizzling pictures for her jewellery brand campaign. The rumours were, however, left unconfirmed till the announcement of their engagement.
