Oyo state has been confirmed to be among the few states in the country that are set to get a new polytechnic, after the Federal Government gave approval for its establishment in Ayede, Ogo-Oluwa Local Government Area of the state.

The approval was contained in a letter signed by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono, and addressed to Governor Seyi Makinde. In the letter, it was revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari has also endorsed a take-off grant of N2 billion from the funding resources of TETFund for the new Polytechnic.

It was further disclosed that a technical team from the ministry of education and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) will be constituted to identify the site for the location of the polytechnic in the local government. Academic activities will reportedly commence in October 2021.

Reports got to us that people suspected to be thugs and hoodlums on Monday night set ablaze the house of Seriki Fulani in Eggua, Yewa North local government area of Ogun State, Alhaji Adamu Oloru, killing one person and scores of cows.

The attack was allegedly carried out by angry youths who followed the Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly called Sunday Igboho, to the community. It will be recalled that Sunday Igboho, on Monday, visited the state with a promise to flush out killer-herders.

The Seriki’s son, Suleiman Adamu, who disclosed this to newsmen in an interview on Tuesday, said one Alhaji Jiji was burnt to death, while his father’s settlement was razed down

The US Embassy and Consulate in Nigeria has announced that the services of Yoruba and Hausa teachers are needed in the United States.

According to the Public Affairs Section of the US Mission Nigeria which made the announcement on its website, applications from qualified Nigerians wishing to teach Hausa or Yoruba languages and cultures to American students in US universities and colleges opened February 1 and will end on June 1.

The applications are being requested under the mission’s Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Programme (FLTA).

The FLTA programme, the mission explains, is designed to offer young foreign teachers an opportunity to teach Yoruba language and culture to American students in universities and colleges.

"These Herdsmen Are Killing, Kidnapping And Destroying Our Farmlands" - Abia State Governor

The Abia State government has accused herders of kidnapping citizens of the state. John Okiyi Kalu, the state commissioner for information, made the allegation in a statement on Monday.

He said the state government also condemned the destruction of farmlands by cows grazing openly.

This came as the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, yesterday, warned herdsmen to obey the order of South East governors on open grazing or relocate elsewhere.

The Abia State commissioner said Okezie Ikpeazu, the state governor, has directed security operatives to investigate the destruction of farmlands and the kidnapping cases in Abia north senatorial district.

He asked residents to go about their daily activities because the state government is responding to the situation.

“Abia State Government wishes to condemn in its entirety the recent destruction of farmlands by cows grazing openly in violation of extant laws of the state and Nigeria,” he said.

“It also condemns, without reservations, the activities of criminal herdsmen suspected to have masterminded recent brazen kidnap of innocent citizens around Abia North Senatorial Zone of the state.

A man identified as Charles Majawa aged 31 has died from an "extreme orgasm" after passing out while he romped with a sex worker.

Charles mentioned in a police report lost consciousness after having sex with the woman in the trading district of Phalombe, Malawi.

The man, died following his session with a sex worker in Phalombe, Malawi.

He died shortly after doing the deed - and a postmortem has officially determined the cause of death as an excessive orgasm.

The working woman decided to report the death to police after speaking with her colleagues.

Cops and a medical examiner from Migowi Health Centre viewed the body and confirmed the cause of death on August 18 last year.

Despite Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s vow to tackle the security challenges in the Ibarapa and Oke Ogun zone of the state, some farmers have again been sacked from their farms by suspected herders.

The governor last week said that, among other measures, additional 200 operatives of the Oyo State Security Network codenamed Amotekun Corps would be deployed to the region for forestall attack on residents. But on Friday, some farmers were attacked on their way to the farms by suspected herders in Igangan. Some farmers, who resided on farm settlements, were also sent out of their farmlands.

The Convener Igangan Development Advocates, Oladokun Oladiran, said many of the farm settlers have been sent packing. Oladiran appealed to the government to quickly ensure that the Amotekun deployed by the government put a stop to the forced eviction.

He said the herdsmen mounted a no-cross zone on farmlands, a signal to warn farm owners and farmers not to step on the farmlands or risk being killed.

Over 75 Nigerian healthcare workers tested positive for COVID-19 in the last week, the Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Chikwe Ihekweazu, has said.

Mr Ihekweazu, while speaking at the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 briefing, on Monday, said the number of healthcare workers getting infected is becoming worrisome.

He noted that efforts are ongoing to ensure health workers are actively protected against the virus.

“In the last one week, we have 75 health care workers infected in Nigeria,” he said.

“So we are very worried about this and we can reduce this risk.”

Festus Stephen, a 27 year old man was charged to court on Thursday, for allegedly killing his friend, Abbas Mohammed Gudus, after a dispute over an iPhone in Adamawa State.

Stephen, a staff member of Adamawa State Ministry of Health, attached to Health Services Management Board in Mubi, is currently standing trial before Justice Helen Hammajoda of High Court 2, Yola, for stabbing Gudus to death.

He was charged to court on two counts, bordering on robbery, contrary to and punishable under section 1(2) (b) of the robbery and firearms (Special Provision) Act cap R11 laws of the Federation, 2004.

In his confessional statement, Stephen said he first met Gudus in 2011, and since then, they became friends.

The suspect said on October 27, 2018, at about 7:30 pm in Mubi, he and the deceased decided that he (the deceased) should go and buy food, while he (Stephen) should go and purchase codeine syrup for consumption.

A 12-year-old mentally disabled girl was allegedly gang-raped by seven elderly men said to be 'boys' of some high profile politicians in Sokoto state.

The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Sokoto State, Suleiman Usman, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), who confirmed the incident said the state government had put in place a formidable team of lawyers to prosecute the rape case.
