Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court sitting in Warri, Delta State on Monday March 1, 2021 convicted and sentenced two internet fraudsters to two years imprisonment each without an option of fine.

The duo were prosecuted by the Benin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on separate two count charge bordering on impersonation and obtaining by false pretences.

One of the counts against Edebiri reads: "That you Osas Edebiri (alias Stephen Michael) on or between the month of December 2019, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did had in your possession documents containing false pretence to wit; Fraudulent/scammed mails found in your Galaxy J2 phone with IMEI number 352502/08/236782/1 and 352503/08/236782/9, with serial number RVIH70YM14P in your email edebiriosas@gmail.com with several subject titles which you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 6 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3)of the same Act."

The duo upon arraignment pleaded ‘guilty’ to the charge, prompting the prosecution counsel, F. Dibang to pray the court to convict and sentence the defendants accordingly.

However, counsel to the defendants, P. Nwamma pleaded with the Court to temper justice with mercy as the defendants were first time offenders who have become remorseful.

A 400-level student of the Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, KSUST identified as Sherif Sale-Kanya has been confirmed dead after being beaten by an angry mob on Saturday, 17 February.

According to reports, the Biochemistry student had paid N3,500 through a bank transfer for a phone he bought in Aliero town, Kebbi State and afterwards proceeded to the university to write an exam.

A 12-year-old boy, Muhammad Sani, has allegedly killed his girlfriend at Damutawa village in Jahun Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The incident occurred on Saturday at about 2:00pm while Muhammad and his 15-year-old girlfriend, Habiba Junaidu were playing at their uncle’s House.

He suddenly took his uncle’s dane gun, which was already loaded and shot her from the back. She died instantly.

Police spokesman, Asp Zubairu Aminudeen Ismail confirmed the incident to DAILY POST.

He said after receiving the information, police rushed the victim to the hospital and was later confirmed dead.

Zubairu said the dane gun was recovered and the suspects were arrested for negligence.

He said the case is still under investigation.

A policeman on duty was, yesterday, killed in an early morning attack on a police station at Abayi Osisioma Local Government Area, near Aba, Abia State.

It was gathered that the attackers stormed the station around 2:00 am and set the station ablaze after killing one of the police personnel on duty.

An unspecified number of vehicles parked at the station were also set ablaze by the invaders whose identities are yet to be ascertained.

Meanwhile, the Abia State government has promised N1 million reward for any credible information that could lead to the arrest of the invaders.

Confirming the attack, yesterday, Abia State’s Police Public Relations Officer, Geoffrey Ogbonna, said investigations into the incident had commended to apprehend the perpetrators.

It would be recalled that another police station was also in a similar fashion set on fire at Omoba in Isialangwa South Local Government Area in early January.

The Abia State government, yesterday, described the attack on the police station and the killing of the police officer as “mindless and cowardly.”

Govt places N1m bounty on attackers

The government in a statement by the Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi, promised N1 million reward for any credible information that could lead to the arrest of the invaders.

The government also announced an immediate ban on tricycle and motorcycle operation between 7 pm and 7am in all major cities throughout the state.

The statement made available to us in Aba read in part: “The attention of Abia State Government has been drawn to a mindless and cowardly attack on a police station in Aba by yet to be identified armed hoodlums in the early hours of today (yesterday) leading to loss of precious lives.

Some herdsmen have been accused of setting a solar power station on fire in Awowo, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.

We learnt that the incident occurred on Tuesday, causing confusion among members of the community and residents of Abeokuta.

A report that surfaced on social media on Tuesday night claimed that Awowo was “attacked” by herdsmen, who wanted to set the community on fire.

This generated tension in Ogun, considering the proximity of the area to Abeokuta, the state capital.

But, the Alawowo of Awowo, Oba AbdulGafar Olasukanmi Tijani, said the community was not attacked by herdsmen.

Oba Tijani confirmed that it was true that Fulani cattle rearers burnt down a £15,000 worth solar power system, which he erected in his community.

However, the traditional ruler said it was not an attack, but an accident from careless cattle rearers who set the bush on fire and allowed the fire to get out of control.

The monarch recalled that his community was attacked in December when some people were kidnapped by suspected herdsmen.

“We were not attacked. It was careless cattle rearers. Their cattle don’t have anything to eat so they set the bush on fire; and you know there’s harmattan, so they could not control the fire. That’s what happened. It’s not that we’re attacked.

“Though we were attacked in December last year. They kidnapped four people. This one that just happened was an accident,” the Alawowo said in a telephone interview.

The monarch told our correspondent that the community has been living peacefully with the herdsmen, saying there are laid down rules and regulations.

“We have peacefully lived together because we hold meetings from time to time. I have warned them not to leave their area for other places. The police in Lagos State have arrested four suspected traffic robbers, who were reportedly terrorising motorists around the Alakija, Agboju area of the state.

Two others, who allegedly vandalised rail tracks have also been arrested in the Festac Town area of the state.

The police image maker said: “The police operatives attached to Satellite and Aguda Divisions of the command have arrested two suspected traffic robbers each at different locations in their areas.”

He added that; “The Satellite Division arrested two (2) suspected traffic armed robbers along Agboju/Alakija on Lagos/Badagry Expressway on February 19, 2021, at 10:35 pm.”

“The suspects, Solomon Ayuba and Manase David, m, were caught in the act by the police when they were attacking unsuspecting commuters in the area, while other members of the gang took to their heels.”

Fake Prophetesses Arrested For Pounding Children With Mortal To Make Charm For Politicians

The Anambra state police have arrested two women in Onitsha, who allegedly specialize in abducting children and pounding them in mortars to make charms for politicians. The suspects are one Miss Rejoice Raymond, 39 and Mrs Chidi Nwafor, 80.

A viral video circulating in the state showed a huge outcry by members of the public, when men of the Anambra State police command raided the residence of the women.

The video also showed policemen, rescuing three children who were locked up in different rooms in the flat, apparently keeping them for rituals.

According to a woman in the video, the culprits who were arrested along Awka road, Onitsha were taken to the apartment at 3-3 estate, where the children were discovered.

Police spokesperson in Anambra, CSP Haruna Mohammed who confirmed the arrest said the women arrested were two. He gave their names as;
Mrs Chidi Felicia Nwafor, 80 years old and Rejoice Raymond, 39 years old.

Sources reported that the women operate a ministry along Awka road, Onitsha, and use children to make charms for businessmen and politicians.

Haruna said police would be charging her for child abuse, deprivation of liberty and assault on the three children.

Haruna said, “On February 19, at about 5:50 pm, following an intelligence report, police operatives attached to 3-3 Police Station Nkwelle Ezunaka arrested two suspects and rescued three minors.

No fewer than 17 women with babies strapped on their back have been kidnapped by unknown gunmen suspected to bandits in Faskari local government area of Katsina State.

The women were said to have been kidnapped on Thursday between Unguwar Rimi Village to Garin Maigora town on their way to attend a wedding ceremony in Funtua.

A source in the area said the bandits had also released one of the women due to the health condition of her baby.

According to the source who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “the security situation in our area has continued to deteriorated by the day despite security personnel presence in the area.

A civil suit involving a man and his ex-lover in Yola, Adamawa State, has taken a twist after the man unexpectedly drew a knife and stabbed the woman in court.

The suspect appeared to have been infuriated by the decision of the Criminal Area Court 11, Yola, to reverse a verbal agreement by the woman to pay N85000 to the man after backing out of their marriage plan.

Enoch Adamu had taken Ashini Hosea to court over a financial claim. He wanted back all the money he claimed to have spent on Ashini who had pulled out of their marriage plan. The money included the bride price.

Ashini had agreed to return N85000.

However, the court annulled the repayment on Thursday.

The court’s decision did not go down well with Adamu who reached for a knife and stabbed his ex-lover.

Ashini was rushed to the hospital for treatment while Adamu was arrested and locked up at the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

However, the suspect made an attempt to escape from detention.

He jumped down from where he was being kept, landing awkwardly on the ground floor.

17-year old girl, who was arrested for being in possession of a pistol in Cross River State, yesterday, confessed that she is a member of a local cult group – Sky Queens.

Promise Idorenyin, an SS2 student of Community Secondary School, Ikot Ewa, in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of the state was paraded alongside her lover, who owns the locally-made double barrel pistol.

Okon Effiong, 38 and father of six children from two women, admitted that they were indeed lovers.

The farmer said the girl’s parents are already aware of their relationship.

Although initial reports suggested that Promise had gone to school with the gun for the purpose of shooting one of her teachers who had disciplined her for coming to school with a tinted hair, Effiong said yesterday that it was to be taken to a blacksmith.

He denied giving the gun to Promise.

Effiong claimed he planned to marry her, but the girl shook her head in disapproval.

He said: “Her parents know about us, and I have been helping the mother and the girl.”

There were some contradictions in their statements.

While the man said he took the gun to the girl’s house where he sometimes sleeps, he claimed he did not give the gun to the girl.

Promise, on the other hand, said the gun was for repairs but she did not know any blacksmith in the community.

Police Commissioner Sikiru Kayode Akande who paraded a total of 13 suspects before newsmen pledged the commitment and determination of the Police to combat crime in the state.

Akande noted that the police is deploying modern facilities and equipment across the state to achieve a target of three minutes response time to any security challenge reported at anywhere within the state.

He said that in the last two weeks, the police in the state arrested 13 suspects and seized 57 rounds of 7.6MM live ammunition, 25 feet Armoured cables, 8 parcels of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, one locally made double barrel pistol, 3 locally made pistols with 3 live cartridges, charms, amulets, two bottles of concoction, one pack substance suspected to be cocaine, one Itel phone, 3 sim cards, papers of Vehicles with Registration N0. CAL 532 TC used by the kidnappers.”

Bayelsa State Command of the Nigerian Police has arrested a 26-year-old male, Promise Olive, for allegedly slapping his 17-year-old girlfriend, Esther Uko, to death over a minor quarrel.

Briefing newsmen at the command headquarters in Yenagoa, Commissioner for Police, Mr Mike Okoli, said that Esther slumped and died instantly after receiving two slaps from her boyfriend.

Although the police are yet to reveal what led to the quarrel, sources hinted Nigerian Tribune that the lovebirds had the quarrel over suspicion that Esther was having an affair with another man.

Mummy Shade is married with young children but up until now, never had the opportunity of a formal education. It was not until few years ago that she attended Adult Education class to at least be able to read and write a few things. But her resolve has always been to acquire formal education at least to the level of being able to speak the English Language fluently.

Why is she interested in doing that? Most of her friends with whom she grew up had the opportunity of going to school to the point of being fluent in English and that became her driving force – she wants to be able to communicate in the language too .

Welcome to the world of Mrs Folashade Alabi, 38, popularly called Mummy Shade. She is a fashion designer and sews small bags that are used as gift items in ceremonies.

Madam Alabi is not yet proficient in English Language and had to speak with our correspondent in Yoruba Language, but her determination to make a success of her ambition is not in doubt.

According to her: “One major thing that really drove me to attempting this is seeing my friends with whom I grew up, speaking English Language very fluently. I couldn’t at all and it bothered me a lot, so I made up my mind to go back to school.”

Though she had earlier attended Adult Education school, where she was able to learn to read and write, her inability to speak English remained a big concern.

In her drive towards achieving her ambition, she made her intention known to a family friend, who was excited about the idea and took her to meet an official in the Kwara State Ministry of Education. So, instead of starting from JSS1, she was placed in JSS 2 at Ilorin Grammar School along Sawmill Area of the state capital .

The determination to achieve her aim didn’t make her bother about her size and age among other pupils in her class who are not even up to her children’s age. She is very excited about the cooperation she has been getting from the pupils and even the cordiality. She has commenced the learning of English Language, Mathematics, Social Studies among others and she’s enjoying it.

Her words: “I have children at various levels of education, that doesn’t bother me because it is my own personal life ambition. I am happy to inform you that all of them including my husband supported my plan to return to school.

“I have been longing to go back to school but there was no time for me, but thank God I am finally here now to learn. I have attended adult education school where I obtained my first school leaving certificate. By the grace of God, I am enjoying my studies here in school. The students here are very happy to see me in their midst and there’s cordial relationship between us.

“My dream is to learn, I want to be able to speak English Language fluently like my friends, many of them are educated. When I finish my education, whatever God wants me to use the certificate for, He will provide then.

“I wish to be like them, I mean my friends. I advise the younger ones to face their studies squarely and to obey their parents. They must...

Well known Nigerian crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, alias Bobrisky has come heavily for women who go about wrecking the homes of other women.

The self-proclaimed Male Barbie took to his Instagram page to warn such women that the day of retribution is near for them. His reason for saying so is that men are not trustworthy.
