Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 elections has re-affirmed his commitment to restructuring if elected on Feb. 16. Atiku gave the assurance while addressing thousands of party faithful at a presidential rally at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt on Monday. The PDP presidential candidate who was accompanied by his running mate, Peter Obi, and other leaders of the party promised to uphold the rule of law. “If you (masses) elect PDP and Atiku into office; I will restructure Niger Delta and all other parts of the country. We must restructure the country. “Secondly, after the Obasanjo/Atiku administration started the East West highway project; till today it has not been completed. “It has not been completed because we did not vote PDP to continue in power in 2015. The project has been haunted till today. We are going to complete it, if voted into power,” he assured. Atiku said that his administration would complete the dredging of old Port Harcourt and Onne sea ports if he wins Feb. 16 presidential polls. According to him, Rivers state, Niger Delta and South-South had been abandoned by the administration since 2015, notwithstanding being the economic hub of the country. “Every development that the people of South-South, Niger Delta and Rivers have gotten was done by PDP-led governments. The roads, schools, hospitals and water, among others were provided by PDP. “I assure you that I will protect the constitution, protect separation of powers and will not interfere with the National Assembly and Judiciary because I believe in checks and balances. “My administration will uphold rule of law and will never allow the rule of law to be trampled by anybody,” he promised. Also speaking, former President Goodluck Jonathan called on the people of the state to come out enmass to vote PDP at all levels. ALSO READ: "Fulfil your promises to my daughter", Rebecca Sharibu tells Buhari- https://theonlinenigeria.com/fulfil-your-promises-to-my-daughter-rebecca-sharibu-tells-buhari/ He said that nepotism, divisiveness, discrimination, factionalism, favouritism, sectionalism and killings had now become prevalent in the country. “All of us know that things that had never been happening in this country have been happening since 2015. Nigerians can attest if the country has gone forward, backward or static. “We cannot as a nation continue to stay where we currently are. We believe the only person out of the candidates who can lead us out if this quagmire is Atiku. “If your son or daughter is qualified to become Inspector-General of Police and Chief of Army Staff, he or she will be appointed. No one will be discriminated. Atiku will lead Nigeria forward,” he said. Senate President and Director-General of Atiku Presidential Campaign, Bukola Saraki, said that Atiku had experience to take the country to greater heights. He said that poverty and unemployment had reached an all-time high never seen in the country since its independence in 1960. “There is poverty in the land and Nigerians are tired of poverty. The people want a man who can bring economic prosperity and that man is Atiku,” he said. On his part, PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, assured the people of victory at the polls. He expressed optimism that Atiku would win the North Western states of Jigawa, Kebbi, Kaduna, Kano, Sokoto and Zamfara. “If you want a president that will work for 24 hours daily, a president with capacity and energy and a president who will be in charge and take responsibility, then vote Atiku,” he appealed. Hightlight of the rally was the adoption of Gov. Nyesom Wike as gubernatorial candidate by 58 political parties in the state. Visit- www.theonlinenigeria.com for more stories |

Hello everyone, how's your weekend going? Hope you've had more fun and rested? I would like to take us back to our secondary school days. Like I tell my friends, for me I had more fun in Secondary School than I am having in higher institution. Let me take you back to the Memory Lane in Secondary School, we all had our best subject in secondary and this might be because of the Teacher teaching the subject or the relevance of the subject to your desired course of study or because of your friends or any other reason. I hated Biology because the teacher was just too lazy and was leaving us the form our notes but I loved the aspect of reproduction in Biology . So it's your turn, what was your best and worst subjects in secondary school? Join the discussion leave a comment. Emmanuel Omobolaji A. September 28, 2018 I recommend you read this on the original post at https://www.campustrends.com.ng/2018/09/history-and-origin-of-cult-groups-in.html. What is commonly know in other Countries as a confraternity in other countries is mostly called Cult groups here in Nigeria, well they are more or less the same. Confraternities or Cult-groups are secret-society like student groups within higher Institutions(Yeah, higher institution because that's my focus). History of Confraternities In Nigeria In 1952, future-Nobel Prize winning author Wole Soyinka alongside Ralph Opara, Ikhehare Aig-Imokhuede, Sylvanus Egbuchie, Nathaniel Oyelola, Pius Oleghe, Olumuyiwa Wonderment formed the Pyrate Confraternity at the elite University College, Ibadan(now University of Ibadan), then part of the University of London. According to the Pyrates, the "Magnificent Seven", as they called themselves, observed that the university was populated with wealthy students associated with the colonial powers and a few poorer students striving in manner and dress to be accepted by the more advantaged students, while social life was dictated by tribal affiliation. Soyinka would later note that the Pyrates wanted to differentiate themselves from "stodgy establishment and its pretentious products in a new educational institution different from a culture of hypocritical and affluent middleclass, different from alienated colonial aristocrats".The organization adopted the motto "Against all conventions", the skull and crossbones as their logo, while members adopted confraternity names such as "Cap'n Blood" and "Long John Silver". Also Read: 10 Things To Avoid If You Are After A First Class Degree When fellow students protested a proposal to build a railroad across the road leading to the university, fearing that easier transportation would make the university less exclusive, the Pyrates successfully ridiculed the argument as elitist. Roughly analogous to the fraternities and sororities of North America, the Pyrates Confraternity proved popular among students, even after the original members moved on. Membership was open to any promising male student, regardless of tribe or race, but selection was stringent and most applicants were denied. For almost 20 years, the Pyrates were the only confraternity on Nigerian campuses. What happened next, they splitted. I guess the question on your mind is how right, Also Read: 7 Effective Steps To Studying Better read on. In the late 1960s, campuses were greatly affected by the Nigerian Civil War. Details of which I couldn't get, but it appears that in 1972 Bolaji Carew and several others were expelled from the Pyrates for failing to meet expected standards. In reaction to this and other events, the Pyrates registered themselves under the name National Association of Seadogs (NAS) and, at least one source states, pulled the confraternity out of the universities. Carew went on to found the Buccaneers Confraternity (also called the National Associations of Sea Lords and it is popularly called 'the slots'), largely copying the Seadogs' structure, symbols and ceremonies. Buccaneers Confraternity (also called the National Associations of Sea Lords) So before you continue I want you to note that a Pyrate rejectee created the Buccaneers. Also Read: 6 Steps To Getting A Good Job As A Graduate With Second Class Lower or 3rd Class Or Pass Grade Let's move on, A major impetus for the creation of new confraternities was the fact that members of the new groups simply did not meet the high academic and intellectual standards set by the Seadogs, and thus considered the original organization to be elitist (So it was only 'efiwes' that were cultist then). However, Soyinka would later point to individuals who became accustomed to exerting power in the rigidly hierarchical confraternity, and were unwilling to give it up, as to blame for the initial schism. As new groups formed, inter-group tensions led to fighting, though these were initially limited to fistfights. Also Read: How To Calculate Your CGPA The Supreme Eiye Confraternity (also known as the National Association of Air Lords) was formed in the University of Ibadan in 1965. In the 1980s confraternities spread throughout the over 300 institutions of higher education in the country. The Neo-Black Movement of Africa (also called ) emerged from the University of Benin in Edo State. In 1983 students at the University of Calabar in Cross River State founded the Eternal Fraternal Order of the Legion Consortium (the Klan Konfraternity), the Supreme Vikings Confraternity (the Adventurers) the following year. This time period saw a drastic change in the role of the confraternities. The coup of Ibrahim Babangida in 1983 caused a large degree of political tension. Military leaders, beginning in the 1980s, began to see the confraternities as a check on the student unions and university staff, who were the only organized groups opposing military rule. The confraternities were thus provided payment and weapons to use against student activists, though the weapons were often used in deadly inter-confraternity rivalries. Read Also: All You Need To Know About Every Cult Group On Campus During this period the confraternities introduced a new tradition of carrying out traditional religious practices, including Vodun, before any other activity. Perhaps in reaction to the changes, in 1984 Wole Soyinka declared that the Seadogs should not operate on any university campuses. So how did Cultism grow away from Campuses? In the early 1990s, confraternity activities expanded dramatically in the Niger Delta as confraternities engaged in a bloody struggle for supremacy. The Family Confraternity (the Campus Mafia or the Mafia), which modeled itself after the Italian Mafia emerged. Shortly after their arrival, several students were expelled from Abia State University for cheating and "cultism", a reference to the voodoo-practicing confraternities, which marked the beginning of a shift of confraternity activities from the university to off campus. The consolidation of confraternity activities outside Nigerian University campuses was boosted by the nationwide renouncement of cultism by university students and the breakdown of traditional campus cults all over the country as a result of amnesty granted to all renounced cultists at the onset of the present democratic government. This led to migration of cultists from the campuses to residential neighbourhoods and streets as campuses were no more safe haven for them. Incompetence of government officials and inadequate facilities to police campuses by University Authorities led to the resurgence of cultism in the campuses as renounced cultists who could not be protected by the Law, went back to their cult groups to seek protection from rival groups who had discerned their identity as a result of the renouncement ceremony. This resulted in a situation where cult groups were now well established in- and outside the campuses. Recommended Post: Ways To Avoid 'Cultism' In Any Institution In Nigeria The Brotherhood of the Blood (also known as Two-Two (Black Beret), another notorious confraternity, was founded at Enugu State University of Science and Technology. Another cult, the Victor Charlie Boys, was established by Augustine Ahiazu when he was vice-chancellor of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology. The cults established in the early 1990s are legion; they include Second Son of Satan (SSS), Night Cadet, Sonmen, Mgba Mgba Brothers, Temple of Eden, Trojan Horse, Jurists, White Bishops, Gentlemen Clubs, Fame, Executioners, Dreaded Friend of Friends, Eagle Club, Black Scorpion, Red Sea Horse and Fraternity of Friends. Nigeria is almost 58 years, it is expected of a 25 years old person to have his/her life on track, fine Nigeria is not a person but a group of persons led by what I would call rather term as 'The Ones That Don't Care'. Education in Nigeria has reached a state that I try so hard to see better days ahead but I don't see the path to get to those better days, as corruption and neglection is growing daily in the Education system of the country. Why can't I go to a University in Nigeria and be free from strikes, inexperienced lecturers, unconducive learning environment, insecurity and lots more? Why can't I get a degree in Nigeria that can be duly recognised in World? Millions of students are leaving the country annually to study abroad, fine they claim we can't compete with most countries Education system like US, Canada, France, UK, China but what of countries like Benin Republic, Ghana, Port Novo, Egypt, Kenya, South Africa. We beat our chests when we are called the Giants of Africa, what kind of giant are we if we can't build our future by ourselves. Also Read: LAUTECH Heading Towards Collapse, says ASUU The Ladoke Akintola University had been closed for more than 80 weeks in the last 104 weeks that's equivalent to more than 1 and half year out of two, yet our government acts like it's nothing, it's more absurd when I realise that Ladoke Akintola University is owned by two States (Oyo and Osun), if two states can't take care of just one institution, then where is future for the average Nigerians that can't afford a private tertiary education. In Nigeria Best Graduating Students are given cash prizes of 7,500 Naira, that's Seven Thousands, Five hundreds Naira to honour them for their sleepless nights, intelligence, brilliance, et cetera, I don't blame youths who out of knowing that the government can't help them build a better future tend to seek ways to help themselves. Also Read: We Are Looking For You!! Read Why. Nigeria doesn't have any major research achievement as getting a Post Graduate Degree in my country is only for those who wants to lecture or get better job, most of which are gotten outside the country. For how long would 'The Ones That Don't Care' watch as our elite minds build other countries? Our Education System Is Almost In Coma . I rest my pen here and request that you help young Nigerians create an awareness by joining the movement for better education, reformation of the Education sector, better jobs for graduates by sharing this post. #BetterEducationInNigeria #ReformEducationsystem #Createbetterjobs Do you have a story to share with others contact us today at mycampustrends@gmail.com or Whatsapp, call or SMS : 09058806505 About The Writer Adelusola Emmanuel Omobolaji is a Student, Writer, Professional Blogger, he's a third year student of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti where he studies Geophysics. This is another segment of Let's Talk a platform that I created not quite long. This platform allows you to express your thoughts or point on a particular topic. Today we shall be discussing if it's possible to graduate from a Tertiary Institution in Nigeria without having a carry over. A carry over in a tertiary institution is equivalent to failing a course and having to redo that course in another semester. My Thoughts. I had a carry over last session not because I didn't do the course we'll but because they was a mix-up with our results and I redo that course. But my answer to the topic is that it's possible to graduate from a tertiary institution in Nigeria without having to carry over a course because I have seen people who graduated without failing a course. But having to carry over a course is not the end of the world rather it's a way of telling a student to sit up. I have dropped my thoughts, it's your turn. Drop your thoughts in the comment box on the website @. https://www.campustrends.com.ng/2018/07/lets-talk-is-it-possible-to-graduate.html. While I was doing a little research on the Minister of Finance certificate controversy I came across this picture. Well it looks like The NYSC DGs usually sign the certificates far ahead of time and not necessarily when participants complete their service. But in the case of Kemi Adeosun, she applied for exemption, hence it's becomes controversial how such could be possible, considering the much difference in the date the DG left office and the date stated on her "NYSC Certificate". Someone shared the certificate above online and wrote; "Former DG of NYSC Yusuf Bomoi left his post in January of 2009. I finished my NYSC in March, 2009. My certificate is carrying Yusuf Bomoi signature same as..." I had problems uploading the pictures on Nairaland but you can view them on https://www.campustrends.com.ng/2018/07/forged-certificate-see-nysc-certificate.html So far here's what I have been to dig out the following stories on the issue: - NYSC Responds To Minister of Finance Certificate Saga-http://www.campustrends.com.ng/2018/07/nysc-responds-to-minister-of-finance.html -NYSC: Kemi Adeosun Not Legally Required To Participate (Read Details)-http://www.campustrends.com.ng/2018/07/nysc-350000-corps-members-to-share-n83.html -EXPOSED! Like we all know that Nigeria is always facing problems and most times our problems are caused by our Government insufficiency to detect a problem before it happens. But today I want to create a floor for an open discussion all of us to throw view on the Nigerian education system because for me we are really lacking behind, like we at the back-back ☺ when it comes to education even in Africa that we are calling ourselves gaint. To me this administration even with the minimal strikes, I think it has not really tried when it comes to education. So please everyone follow the link to make your thoughts in the comment box. https://www.campustrends.com.ng/2018/07/lets-talk-how-satisfied-are-you-with.html |

Kaduna Polytechnic has suspended a head of department for academic corruption. The unnamed lecturer is said to have taken money from students and allowed them to have their scripts after examination so as to copy answers from the marking scheme. Also Read: Student Beaten To Death By SARS Officers Buried (Read Details + photos) http://www.campustrends.com.ng/2018/07/student-beaten-to-death-by-sars.html KadPoly rector Idris Bugaje disclosed this in interview with Daily Trust correspondent. Bugaje who took office last October introduced the Policy and Transparency Unit (PTU). The unit he said helps to improve the system on a continuous basis as well as check both academic and financial corruption, which he said has eaten deep into the fabrics of the Polytechnic. According to him, the unit also checks exam malpractice. “We have discovered a lot of malpractices going in the system. Lecturers including heads of departments collecting money from students and allowing them to have their scripts after examination so as to copy from the marking scheme in order to get an ‘A’. One HOD has already been suspended for that and he is been investigated, his case will go to the governing council very soon,” Also Read: Thunder Strikes Student To Death. http://www.campustrends.com.ng/2018/07/thunder-strikes-student-to-death.html “We have also had other cases, we are investigating at the moment including certificate forgery, even though, not only Kaduna Polytechnic is affected but there are some people here who are experts in forging certificate from anywhere in the world; they use computer technology, scan and change the names. Two staff are already on suspension for that while their matter is also being investigated and it may eventually involve the Nigerian Police. “In one of the cases, the Police has been very helpful to us because there is another complicated syndicate of certificate forgery which involved people from outside, so all these things are being uncovered and we are out to ensure that the system is brought back on track because the sanctity of examination is very fundamental to the educational system. If you cannot ensure sanctity of examination, there is no need to even run a school. If anybody and get a certificate without attending the Polytechnic, then, we will become a laughing stock. We have also received some complains from students on sexual harassment and other forms of harassment, all of these are being investigated by the PTU,” he said.
