They view the situation as an existential threat. Once a nation feel threatened, they could go to any length to defend themselves- that is one dark side of the nation-state.

One needs to understand the historical undertone of the conflict to make meaning deduction.

In this case, the existential threat is a key factor and analysts have been warning about this decades ago. But hey, I might be wrong!

Told you so. The West shot themselves on the foot by trying to repeat the same move they used on the Soviet Union and other Communist/Socialist they destroyed.

The West is losing even though Russia haven't started her own sanctions. You can't beat a player in his own game. Communism as a philosophy was designed to withstand economic hardship. Remember Biblical Joseph policy in Egypt
The only way to beat communism is by infiltrating into the minds of the masses with propaganda like they have successfully rendered Africans eternal slaves but it won't work in Russia where most don't like Western media.

Economic sanctions doesn't work on Communist countries, this is why North Korea is still alive and more developed than 80% of Capitalist countries. Communism as a philosophy is designed to protect the poor man at the expense of the greedy ones. This is total opposite of what Capitalism preaches which is for the few rich to live on the blood of the poor masses. If you can't deceive the masses to rise against a communist leader, you can't scratch the country.

This is the end of Capitalism. If Putin didn't figure out how to bypass the trick, he wouldn't have invaded Ukraine.

Okay, this not your typical rant.
Of course it is working - and the ordinary Russian on the streets knows it is affecting her - add businesses and Govt parastatal to the list.
However, it will be naive to think they have not prepared for this - it might be they prepared adequately or perhaps they did not. But for sure they must have thought through ways of adapting to the situation.

In particular, observe that they also have very strong institutions and have very strong background in the sciences. These are not bunch of bastards as you might think.

In summary, one needs to read and not blindly fall into the trap of passing a moral/ethical judgement without an understanding of the situation.

There are many books out there on these issues, I encourage you to read and read more. Then take practical notes from the unfolding events!

And no it has nothing to do with shame as someone proposed. Bless you sir!

The US have bio weapons everywhere but would be the first country to accuse others.
I fear the US might release bio weapons in Ukraine then blame Russia for it. On the other hand, Russia might release there's but blame the US for it.
Truth is the first casualty of war.

They called it a conspiracy theory but United States just acknowledged existence of bio labs in Ukraine

New Delhi: The presence of biological research facilities in Ukraine was being labelled as a conspiracy theory and Russia’s misinformation campaign by the West but now the United States has finally admitted that such facilities actually exist in Ukraine.
This revelation came from senior State Department official Victoria Nuland who said that the US was was working with Ukraine to prevent invading Russian forces from seizing biological research material.
“Ukraine has biological research facilities, which in fact we are now quite concerned Russian troops, Russian forces, may be seeking to gain control of,” Nuland told US lawmakers at a hearing when asked directly whether Ukraine has bioweapons.

Interestingly, Senator Rubio noted there were “Russian propaganda” reports claiming the discovery of a plot by Ukrainians to release biological weapons, with coordination from NATO and asked if a biological or chemical weapon attack were to occur inside Ukraine, whether Russians would be behind it. Responding to this Nuland answered in affirmative saying “there is no doubt in my mind, senator.”
“And it is a classic Russian technique to blame on the other guy what they're planning to do themselves,” Nuland added.
This development comes after Moscow’s foreign ministry on March 6 tweeted that Russian forces found evidence that Kyiv was “eradicating traces of the military-biological programme in Ukraine” financed by the Pentagon.
The Atlantic Council, a think tank headquartered in Washington, has said that in order to justify its invasion of Ukraine, the Kremlin is pushing a false narrative that Ukraine was developing dirty bombs and biological weapons.
The council said there was no evidence Ukraine was creating such weapons.

The United States has 26 biological laboratories in Ukraine: China
Meanwhile, the Chinese Foreign Ministry has urged the United States to disclose more information about the biological laboratories it runs in Ukraine and guarantee their safety.
According to CGTN, spokesperson Zhao Lijian cited public data released by the US and said that the United States has 26 biological laboratories in Ukraine and has complete control over it.

There are rules of the game that every one must respect - that's why we have UN, and other similar organizations. It is for the sanity of the entire human race. If we fail to mutually respect each other's concern then we would have the current situation.

Are the rules on the international stage fair, not exactly - the big "nations" are the ones who decide. It is not worth the killing that is going on
either side though.
Both sides (and the parties involved) should aim to de-escalate and follow the path for peace for the good of everyone.

Not entirely true sir. Every analyst across the continents knows that the current situation is inevitable. In fact, no sitting Russian president would accommodate those moves by Ukraine. The talk of sending them back to stone age or what does not hold here - the only point leaders get away with this kind of attitude and invasion are in moments of existential threat.

How about we think of building a better Africa for all and picking one or 2 lessons from the events.

Lol for people with an understanding of macro economics and econometrics, the inability of investors to access foreign exchange in the denomination of the universal currency of transacting business which continues to remain the US DOLLAR is a tell tale of an economy on the cusp of rapid decline as a result of hyper inflation arising from investors having to source the inevitable US dollar from alternative sources at additional costs incurred which are covered in again inevitable increase in the price of goods and services rendered through such investment vehicles!


The foreign reserves of most countries of the world are in US Dollars and the debt profile of the American economy is also an indication of the immense amount of treasury bills, bonds and credit liabilities owned by other major economies of the world all domiciled in US Dollars!

For the Ignoramuses who think this policy by the Russian Central Bank is a show of Bravado, they might be right after all for in economics, brawn, puffery, threats and bravado doesn’t dictate prosperity, rather numbers and economic variables do! Russian Gold reserves even though massive are not enough to counteract the effect of a deficiency of American dollar in its economy even though it is one of the countries that have tried to insulate their reserves from sanctions and vulnerability to the dollar by investing more in gold reserves! How many countries will accept gold and rouble as financial consideration for investment? Lol

One common characteristic of Putin supporters in nairaland from observation seem to be a proclivity for mental laziness and an inability for deep analysis of issues! They are emotional rabble rousers neck deep in their ambition of lionizing their grandstanding demagogue of a role model called PUTIN even where such defense is foolish to the discerning!

Pick some parameters - don't build a model- and assume tail events will never occur. Then, boom, here comes my hypothesis.
Perhaps even if one has built the economic model based on your theories there is still no guarantee of 100% certainty.
The same economics theory that has kept Africa impoverished for a very long time.

What about sir if we apply these theories or find better ones to make Africa great again. Then I think the world would take us seriously!
