EXCLUSIVE: Families Of Alleged Six Slain Soldiers Have Dragged Army, Buratai To ICC – Lawyer

BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORKFEB 05, 2021

The families of six soldiers who were allegedly secretly tried and executed by the Nigerian Army in Abuja have dragged the Nigerian Army and the immediate past Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai (retd.) to the International Criminal Court, according to their lawyer.

SaharaReporters was told by the lawyer, Barrister E. R. Okoroafor, that the army authorities and Buratai would be served the court papers in the coming week.

Okoroafor stated that he was at the ICC in the Hague, the Netherlands, where he personally made the application, adding that he did not expect the army to own up to the incident.

A coalition of civil societies in the South-East had in a release on Monday alleged that six soldiers, attached to the Armoury Department of the Mogadishu Cantonment, Asokoro, otherwise known as Abacha Barracks, Abuja, were secretly tried and executed under Buratai’s watch.

Emeka Umeagbalasi, the Board Chair, International Society for Civil Liberties & Rule of Law and Prof Anthony Ejiofor-Chairman of the World Igbo Congress in the United States, among others, had signed the report saying that the soldiers, of South-East extraction, were not given fair hearing before their alleged execution.

The activists had given the names of those allegedly executed as; Prince Ukwuoma, Ebube Isaiah, Amos Azubuike, Ekene Ebere, Moses Anyim and Godwin Uchendu.

The Nigerian Army had described the report as “fake news” and “malicious publication.”

The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig Gen Sagir Musa, in his characteristic manner, had labelled the incident as “gutter news” but failed to give details of the whereabouts of the soldiers and what truly transpired.

Only on Thursday, President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Buratai, and the outgone service chiefs as non-career ambassadors, forwarding their names to the National Assembly for confirmation.

Speaking with SaharaReporters on the incident, the lawyer representing the families, Okoroafor, who spoke from the United States and noted that he was in Abuja only last week, stated that he stood by his claims and he did not expect the army to accept the claims.

Okoroafor said, “I do not expect them to own up. As a matter of fact, when they denied the Obigbo massacre but between then and now, we have been able to bring out 100 victims.

“As I speak now, I am at the Hague at the ICC and we are filing a case against them. They should come and tell us at the ICC. We have evidence already against them. They are known for denials.

“I am in contact with the family members. I was actually contacted by one of the brothers of the slain soldiers. But because of the porousness of the country, we don’t want to expose them to unnecessary harm.

“When we get to ICC, we are going to present their family members. We filed the case on Thursday. Before next week, they will be properly served.”

The army has tagged the news report as fake news and mischievous publication, but some Nigerians are asking the army authorities to disclose if they ever had as some of their troops the six people identified as victims and if yes, they should show them to the public if they are indeed alive.

It’s funny how senators fighting for the right thing to be done aren’t even from Lagos, the Lagos senators have been eerily quiet... hmm cool
PoliticsNigerian Senates Whatsapp Group Scatters Over Lekki Massacre by CaPpaDonNa(op):
Nigerian senators have been at loggerheads over whether or not they should immediately reconvene to address the Nigerian Army’s massacre of citizens at Lekki Toll-Gate on October 20.

Just hours after the killing left at least nine protesters killed as they chorused the national anthem in protest against police brutality, the Senate’s WhatsApp group was locked in a debate about how to immediately respond, Peoples Gazette learnt from some senators who took part in the discussion.

Senator Bassey Albert was one of the first senators to demand a fierce and immediate response from the Senate. The Senate under Ahmed Lawan has failed to comment on the massacre five days after it occurred, despite widespread uproar including condemnation from Bill Clinton and President Donald Trump.

Mr. Lawan’s leadership has been widely seen as a ‘rubber stamp’ for its failure to live up to the Senate’s oversight roles as witnessed under Bukola Saraki and others in recent decades.

Mr. Albert, from Akwa Ibom, said it would be unfortunate if the Senate failed to comment on the matter or summon security chiefs to explain their decision to massacre Nigerians at the heart of Lagos.

Mr. Albert, in his October 21 contribution in the Senate’s WhatsApp group, said the Senate should immediately call off its recess and show Nigerians that it is a body for the people and not for the president, Peoples Gazette learnt.

Mr. Albert also threatened to go public with his call for the Senate to reconvene and address the matter. He has yet to do so.

He was immediately supported by Senator Betty Apiafi, who lampooned the Senate for being unable to call President Muhammadu Buhari to order despite all his transgressions. Security analysts have concluded that President Buhari’s failure to address the Lekki massacre and hold anyone accountable showed he was the one who ordered it.

Ms. Apiafi, from Rivers, decried Mr. Lawan’s failure to ensure that the Senate’s resolutions are respected.

She said even if a resolution is passed on the massacre in Lagos, Mr. Buhari would probably ignore it in his usual attitude towards the key lawmaking body, sources said.

Mr. Lawan declined to comment on whether or not he would reconvene, and two senators told the Gazette Sunday evening that no official communication had been passed towards an emergency resumption of plenary.

Senators who briefed the Gazette on the WhatsApp group fallout requested anonymity to discuss internal Senate discussions.

The Senate is scheduled to officially resume plenary on November 24, but Nigerians have been calling on their senators to do something about the Lekki massacre else they would be seen as an accomplice to the military’s blight on the country’s civic history.

A spokesman for Mr. Lawan did not immediately return calls seeking comments about senators’ anger Sunday evening.

This is commendable, only a fôol would keep fighting in Buhari and Buratai’s army. Ask any barrack boy, soldier or other force men to tell you their stories and you’ll weep at what the once feared Nigerian army has degenerated to. I only hope these ones going away aren’t sent to be slaughtered via the eerily regular “ambush” that happens all too often under preset incompetent leadership

Anyone in Abuja can verify the true owner of the house.
Besides, finishing the internal space of a house to suit one's needs is commonplace. You only need the permission of the landlord.

It's best to verify instead of speculating or assuming. Always an avoidable sin.

I hold no brief for her. I'd rather wait for the truth in all these stories.
madam, I’m a businessman also involved in construction. Bear in mind that Kiki is a recent graduate, she shouldn’t even be able to afford the “rent” of that building in the first place talk less of renovations number two, as a start up, you have to get things as close to what you want as possible including buildings, ask any contractor around you the cost of screeding and painting per square meter, ask the price of high quality tiles and plumbing, electricals etc. Will Adams Musa knock the difference from her subsequent rents or she just did renovations for charity ? Bear in mind every single kobo she spent on that building is part of her capital and it’s already not making sense again if na rent. Her story is flawed cool
