Politics / Fulani Herdsmen Kill Three Farmers In Ondo by CaPpaDonNa: 4:15pm On Feb 14, 2021
Suspected Fulani herdsmen on Saturday night attacked some farmers at Ijugbere in the Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, killing three of them.

This comes two days after a clash between the operatives of the Ondo State Security Network, popularly known as Amotekun, and armed herders in the same LGA, which led to the death of two villagers.

Senior Special Assistant to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on Agriculture, Akin Olotu, confirmed the killing to SaharaReporters.

“Yes, it’s true, three people were killed, the place is becoming like Zamfara. Those accusing the governor of ordering illegal occupants of the forest to vacate the place, I think they should be charged as accomplices,” Olotu told SaharaReporters.

“It obvious these bandits are ready for war. That’s why the governor said if you are a cattle rearer, let us know you, disclose your identity. Let us know where you come from, let us know who own your cattle. It’s so sad.”

Last month, Akeredolu, governor of the state, issued a seven-day quit notice to the herdsmen operating illegally in the state’s forest reserves.

Apart from ejecting the herdsmen, the governor also banned underage grazing, night grazing, and movement of cattle within the cities and on highways.

The governor had said, "Today, we have taken major steps at addressing the root cause of kidnapping, in particular, and other nefarious activities detailed and documented in security reports, the press, and debriefings from victims of kidnap cases in Ondo State.

"As the chief law and security officer of the state, it is my constitutional obligation to do everything lawful to protect the lives and property of all residents of the state. In light of the foregoing, the following orders are hereby issued: All forest reserves in the state are to be vacated by herdsmen within the next seven days with effect from today, Monday, January 18, 2021."

The issue generated an uproar and after a meeting with different stakeholders, Akeredolu asked herdsmen to register with the government so that they can operate unhindered in the forest reserves.

Some of you think this carnage is a joking matter, a time to stick your tongues out at your supposed enemies. You forget that we're dealing with a fulani people intent on completely wiping out every other tribe in Nigeria. These are a people who have come heavily armed from all over west and central Africa through our porous borders and have been unleashing mayhem stage by stage from the north to the middle belt now the SW next Edo, SS then the SE. There is no record of their prosecution anywhere, you might arrest and thats where it ends. The sooner you southern fôols especially the SE & SW close ranks, the better but if you continue at this trajectory then you may as well forget about your regions as you know it in the nearest future.

Police DPO Shoots Amotekun Operative For Arresting Fulani Herdsmen Who Destroyed Farm

The Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ile-Igbon Division, Surulere Local Government Area of Ogbomoso in Oyo State, Adepoju Ayodeji, on Friday shot an operative of Amotekun for arresting Fulani herdsmen who allegedly destroyed a cassava farm.

The Amotekun commandant in the state, Col. Olayanju Olayinka (retd.), who confirmed this to reporters in Ibadan on Friday, said the police boss shot the victim at close range.

SaharaReporters learnt that Amotekun operatives received a distress call from farmers to come and arrest some Fulani herdsmen who had destroyed their farms.

After the Fulani herdsmen were arrested, the DPO ordered the arrest of the operatives of Amotekun who made the arrest.

Our correspondent gathered that when the leaders of the Amotekun group, led by Olatunji Mayowa and Jenyo Isiaka, got to the station to secure the release of the arrested Amotekun personnel, the DPO said they had no business in arresting anybody.

According to a source, while one of the Amotekun operatives was speaking with the police officer on duty at the station, the DPO came out of his office, shot at them, and chased them away.

The source said, "As one of the leaders of the Amotekun was discussing with the police station guard, the DPO rushed out from his office, snatched an AK 47 rifle from one of his officers, and sprayed the Amotekun operatives with bullets.

"One of the men of Amotekun, Job Adewale, was hit at close range in the right leg and the bullet also broke his right ribs. The DPO reloaded the rifle and released more gunshots at other personnel while they were trying to carry the wounded Adewale."

Politics / Herdsmen Attack Amotekun In Ondo, Shoot Farmer And A Vigilante Dead by CaPpaDonNa: 8:58am On Feb 12, 2021
At least two people died on Thursday in a clash between the operatives of the Ondo State Security Network known as Amotekun and armed herders.

The incident, PREMIUM TIMES learnt, occurred at Ago Sanusi, along Ute Road in Owo, headquarters of Owo Local Government Area of the state.

Sources told our correspondent that the herdsmen had earlier clashed with farmers which led to a “call on Amotekun operatives for intervention”.

Amotekun operatives reportedly got to the scene and were attacked by herdsmen. These led to the death of a farmer and a vigilante.

“One farmer and a vigilante attached to the Amotekun during the clash were shot in the head(s) by herdsmen and both of them are dead now,” Supo Ojo, a resident told PREMIUM TIMES.

This newspaper also gathered from sources within the Amotekun organization that an official known as Oluwasesan Adebayo got missing during the incident and his whereabouts was still unknown as of the time of filing this report.

When contacted, the state Commander of the Amotekun, Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed the incident.

“Amotekun was called yesterday by some farmers that herdsmen had invaded the forest and our men went there to douse tension. A vigilante and a farmer lost their lives in the process,” he said.

Asked about the missing Amotekun operative, he simply said “nobody is missing in Amotekun”.

The state police spokesperson, Tee-Leo Ikoro, did not respond to PREMIUM TIMES calls and text messages as of press time.

This incident occurred days after Ondo Amotekun said it arrested two armed herdsmen and 200 cows in the state.

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and other South-west governors, two weeks ago, banned under-aged grazing, night grazing and movement of cattle along highways.

There'll Be Suya Feast When Next Herdsmen's Cows Invade My Home, Soyinka Warns
Soyinka on Thursday stated that he would invite the police to join the feast as there "will be no lack for cadaver affirmation."

BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORKFEB 11, 2021

Nobel laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, has criticised the Ogun State Police Command for denying that cows invaded his building in Abeokuta, Ogun State, warning that there would be a Suya feast If such happened again.

Soyinka on Thursday stated that he would invite the police to join the feast as there "will be no lack for cadaver affirmation."

In a reaction titled, "Mad cows and madder narratives," the Nobel laureate from Kemta Housing Estate, Abeokuta, noted that it was unprofessional for the police to deny an incident that had photographs and other obvious proofs.

He said, "For those who truly seek details of the Ijegba incident, I hereby affirm that I was never physically attacked, neither did I attack any cows. The cows and herders did however attack my property – and not for the first time.

"The police need to be very, very careful, learn to be straightforward with public information. Failure to adhere to that obvious, basic form of conduct means that the public will lose total confidence in security agencies and constantly bypass them in times of civic unrest, no matter how trivial or deadly. How on earth could the police claim that my property was not invaded by cattle? It was.

"My groundsmen knew the drill and commenced the process of expelling them. Fortunately, I was then driving out and was able to lend a hand by vehicle manoeuvering. Both cattle and herdsmen were flushed out of my property.

"Once they were outside the gates, I came down from the vehicle and beckoned the herdsmen to come over. At first, they pretended not to understand, then, as I approached, they fled into the bush. We thereupon 'arrested' the cows, confining them to the roadside, while I sent my groundsman, Taiye, to the police to come and take over.

"Since they took rather long in responding, I summoned a replacement and proceeded to the police station. On the way, we met a detachment, turned round, and together we returned to the scene of the crime."

Soyinka noted that the police wanted to commence combing the bush for the herders but he stopped them, asking them to keep the cows and the owners would show up, which was what happened.

"I thoroughly resent the police version which suggests that the cows never invaded my home: home is not just a building, it includes its grounds. And it was not a stray cow, or two or three. It was a herd – we have photos, so why the lie? It is so unnecessary, unprofessional and suspiciously compromised.

"The police suggest that I have nothing better to do than to go accosting cows on the public road – to what end?

"If the police demand proof, the next time such an invasion takes place, I warn that there will be no lack for cadaver affirmation and the police will be officially invited to join in the ensuing Suya feast. So please, let us get serious."

He added that the menace of "cattle imperialism under any guise is an obscenity to humanity."

"So, let me serve notice that we are about to commence a process of public sensitisation; we hope even the police will join hands with the agenda as it progresses.

"A special practical plea: now that the railways are being resurrected, let us make cattle wagons a priority. I grew up with the regular sight of those practical conveyances. It is time to bring them back," he concluded.

Cows had been reported to have invaded the residence of the Nobel laureate on Wednesday - an incident which drew condemnation from various groups and quarters, although the police in Ogun denied the incident, saying it was a case of straying cows.

Politics / Crypto Ban: Northern Senators Support CBN, Southern Senators Oppose by CaPpaDonNa: 7:16pm On Feb 11, 2021
The recent ban on cryptocurrency transactions via Nigerian bank accounts has divided opinions among Nigerian senators.

The Central Bank had directed deposit money banks and other financial institutions to deactivate all customers’ accounts used for transacting all forms of virtual currencies.

The CBN hinged its decision on claims that fraudulent transactions were being carried out via cryptocurrency dealings, thereby weakening the Naira. It also alleged that the exchange could be used to funnel illicit funding for terrorism and other threats to national security.

Debating the development on Thursday at plenary, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, a former bank chief executive from Lagos, says he does not see the ban as the solution to the highlighted threats but suggested a public hearing be held with stakeholders.

“The last five years, we have had people changing crypto-currencies to over 500 million dollars. It is good to ban because of the challenges it has presented; in reality, banning it doesn’t take it away,”
Mr. Abiru said.

“Even our Security Exchange Commission (SEC) also recognised crypto-currency as a financial asset they need to regulate. What we should do is to invite the major stakeholders to a public hearing.”

Adding his voice, Senator Solomon Adeola (Lagos West) opined that rather than the outright ban on crypto-currency by the banks regulator, regulation of the market would be a better option.

In his words: “I am strongly against the outright ban of this medium of exchange by the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN). What the CBN should be telling Nigerians are the regulations put in place to regulate the activities of the operators.”

“All over the world, these cryptocurrencies are regulated. The operators of this so-called currency are everywhere. I would indulge this senate to allow the regulators also to be invited so that they can also tell the committees their own position concerning the operation of cryptocurrency in Nigeria,” Mr. Adeola concluded.

Senator Biodun Olujimi, apparently against the ban, noted that the youth have gained so much from the business of bitcoin, hence, advised the CBN and the government to iron out ways for cryptocurrency to work for the country while also taking step to prevent fraudulent people from gaining access.

Ms. Olujimi said, “We didn’t create cryptocurrency and so we cannot kill it and cannot refuse to ensure it works for us. These children are doing great business with it and they are getting results and Nigeria cannot immune itself from this sort of business.”

“What we can do is to ensure bad people must not use it. This motion is most important to us. The time has come for us to harmonise all the issues concerning cryptocurrency,”
the senator added.

However, in a swift opposition, Senator Sani Musa (Niger) believes the directive is necessary due to the clandestine nature of the medium of transaction which makes it almost impossible to regulate while seeing it as a threat to Nigeria’s weak economy and the fragile Naira.

“Cryptocurrency has become a worldwide transaction of which you cannot even identify who owns what. The technology is so strong that I don’t see the kind of regulation that we can do. Bitcoin has made our currency almost useless or valueless,”
Mr. Sani lamented.

In addition, he said: “If we have an economy that is very weak, and cannot regulate cryptocurrency in Nigeria, then I don’t know how our economy would be in the next seven years.”

The senate then mandated its committees on banking, insurance and other financial institutions, ICT and cybercrime, and capital market to invite the CBN governor for briefing on the opportunities and threats of the cryptocurrency on the nation’s economy and security and to report back findings within two weeks.

[s]While I strongly condemn the evil activities of criminal herdsmen, the constant fake news, destructive propaganda, and all manner of unverified nonsense from the grapevine emanating from the SW media platforms will soon begin to have negative effects on genuine cases, as people will no longer take any news regarding killer herdsmen seriously.

Personally, from my research so far, I can authoritatively tell you that 90% of reported criminal cases attributed to Fulani herders are not only false, but malicious and an attempt to frustrate the government of President Muhammadu Buhari for political reasons.

From "Amotekun arrests truckload of armed Fulani herdsmen" to "Fulani herdsmen invaded Wole Soyinka's Home; Soyinka managed to escape".. And then within a minute, the victim or the police will come out to dismiss the report as fake news... Now if this isn't a campaign of calumny, what is?

Make una continue dey play politics. I don't take news of Fulani herdsmen seriously again. In fact, 90% of all the reports are fake!

Politics / Tinubu Cannot Stand To See A Woman Cry, Deserves To Be President - Group by CaPpaDonNa: 10:19am On Feb 11, 2021
A political advocacy group, Tinubu Support Organisation (Central Women Wing), has explained why former Lagos Governor, Bola Tinubu should be Nigeria’s next president.

Speaking at a news conference in Lagos, Fatima Bello, the group’s president, said the All Progressives Congress’s national leader had a good vision for the country, particularly the womenfolk.

Mrs. Bello explained that the Central Women Wing of the TSO, stated, “While most people are aware of Tinubu’s qualities, few are aware of his love for gender equality and equity.

“This is one of the values that has endeared him to us in women circles. A lot of women are suffering out there. We are pushing for Tinubu because we believe he has so much passion for women. Tinubu answers women first. He cannot even stand to see a woman cry.”

Similarly, Raliat Abdulsalam, Vice President of the Central Women Wing, asserted that Tinubu was an exemplary leader. She said Tinubu was a leader not known to be tribalistic.

“He has supported people from the North. He has supported people from the south, and he is not greedy for power. He built people that are still in power today. Most important, Tinubu is sympathetic toward the women cause. He supports women every time.

“This dream will come to pass because we have seen a man with a vision; someone that can lead us and help us to survive. We will back him up whenever he decides to run for the president because we have seen the sign of a true leader in him,” Mrs. Abdulsalam said.

The Director General of TSO, Aminu Suleiman, said Tinubu’s track records in human development, democracy, and peace-building informed the support.

Mr. Suleiman noted that the organisation was not campaigning, but sensitising the people about what Tinubu represents, said the organisation saw a better future for Nigeria with Tinubu.
