FIFA citing technicalities could be a face saving measure. Same technicalities were breached in the Mokoena case but they still ruled against SA. The DRC case is a very tricky one and any judgement that goes against the result on the pitch requires irrefutable evidence.

Like I mentioned, wouldn't be surprised if FIFA amends their Statutes to provide clarity for future cases.

The big irony for me is the fact that Nigeria helped SA reach the world cup while losing out in the end. We should have allowed Benin qualify instead.

Now una don dey get sense. When I said this thing months ago some of y’all were just arguing.

The World Cup delulu folks can now go to bed.
Not part of the "una". It didn't seem right to me from the onset. This case was deflection tactics by the NFF..now no one remembers the NFF's failings during the WCQ.

Wouldn't be surprised if this cycle repeats in 2030. Our attention span is pretty limited.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by caprikon: 8:34pm On Mar 17
The fact that the players in question have Congolese ancestry put the DRC in a very strong position. It could have been a lot different if those guys were naturalized South Americans etc.

The Congolese dual nationality law isn't strictly enforced in the country ...FIFA would have been in a messy situation if the decision went against DRC.

The NFF needs to be called out for their gross incompetence. This case has been a smokescreen to cover their failure.

FIFA's disciplinary committee must be at some crossroads coming to a final decision on the DR Congo case. There are precedents but it appears this case exposed some lacunas in their current statutes on Nationality switches...which might actually favour DRC. I foresee amendments to their statutes at the end of this case.

Not keen on the whole court issues but the FIFA ruling, in an event it favours NGA, may involve Cameroon since those Congolese players featured against them as well. If Congo is penalized, then FIFA may need to call for a playoff btw NGA and CMR.

Amedino99:
What type of fouls were morocco committing to become the least carded team. 141 fouls but 10 cards.
Chelle's tiki taka showed up. Nice.
Best two teams in the tournament were Nigeria and Senegal. NGA vs SEN should have been the final. I think Senegal had the edge because of their squad depth. Our key men ( Ndidi, Osimhen & Bassey) were already out with injuries/suspensions towards the end of the competition.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by caprikon: 8:12am On Jan 20
It is good that the the NFF are looking at keeping Chelle but they also need to sort out the issues with the cadet teams on the short and long term.

The scouting and recruitment has to be based on meritocracy and transparency. We need square pegs in square holes.

Most of the guys in this current SE have not had the opportunity to play at an Olympic games.

The squad depth and talent pool of the SE cannot grow of these issues are not addressed .
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by caprikon: 7:57pm On Jan 19
The Atlas Lions are guaranteed to carry the baggage of this AFCON around for a while. Unfavorable refereeing decisions against them will be seen as retribution.

Algeria for me were the best Mahgreb team at AFCON despite their loss to the SE.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by caprikon: 7:47am On Jan 19
Now that the AFCOn dust has settled. I must say I usually like AFCONs held during WC years because it gives a clue to the African teams that could make a statement at the mundial.

Tipping Senegal, CIV, Morocco and Algeria to make it past the group stage at least. Senegal look likely to go the farthest.

SA, Tunisia, Egypt and our Bredas are most likely coming home after the first round.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by caprikon: 11:10pm On Jan 18
Senegal now have almost equal number of AFCON titles with Nigeria just within 4 years!
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by caprikon: 11:04pm On Jan 18
Senegal are the best team in Africa.

They played without fear or respect. Nigeria gave too much respect to Morocco in hindsight. I believe the SE grow will from this.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by caprikon: 10:35pm On Jan 18
If it ends like this, tomorrow will be a national day of mourning for Morocco.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by caprikon: 10:21pm On Jan 18
The actions of the Senegalese certainly unsettled Diaz. What a robbery if that went in.

I think going forward, CAF should appoint referees from UEFA,CONMEBOL etc to ensure fairness for games from the Semis to the final going forward in CAF competitions.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by caprikon: 10:09pm On Jan 18
Rubbish officiating in AFCON. It baffles me how NPFL refs aren't in this tournament.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by caprikon: 9:01pm On Jan 18
It appears the Senegalese have the best midfield on the continent. Morocco has struggled to stifle their forward transitions.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by caprikon: 8:14pm On Jan 18
Senegalese showing no respect to the Moroccans. If the officiating remains fair, I can see Senegal winning this one.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by caprikon: 7:54pm On Jan 18
I want a Senegalese win so I can see the reaction of that Moroccan FA chief.

Like how it was after WAFCON final.

Saw the Egyptian coach giving clues to their keeper on where our players usually put their PKs but he could only save one.lol.

I like how Nwabali handles penalties..he anticipates the opponent but delays early movement..reason why even for the penalties scored against him, he usually dives in the right direction.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by caprikon: 7:31pm On Jan 17
Nwabali deserves his flowers!
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by caprikon: 7:29pm On Jan 17
PKs is a psychological game.

If the played PKs against Maroc in a neutral venue, we could have won.

Surprised though the Moroccan fans were famzing Nigeria.

Chelle really gave good vibes listening to his response on building the team post AFCON. He knows we have a strong first 11 but his focus now is on building the team's depth so that injuries/suspensions wouldn't disrupt the performance/rhythm of the team.

NFF please do that needful and give him a contract extension. The man loves the job.

Make Kenya and Tanzania strategise how to win as hosts o, if one of them no win dem be suegbe
Black Africans aren't sore losers like these Arab folks. See how CIV won fairly two years ago.

Don't know if it is inferiority complex but sub-sharan Africans treat these Arabs a lot fairer than they treat us.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by caprikon: 11:34am On Jan 15
NFF/NSC should try to be act sensibly though it seems the most difficult for them

1. Retain Chelle and give him a long-term contract. He is young and has shown that a great of adaptability so far unlike Rohr.

2. Prioritize the cadet teams U-13s, U-17s etc and ensure MERITOCRACY in selection of coaches and players

3. Invest in infrastructure in conjunction with the private sector to ensure we have more standard pitches across the country.

Chelle may not win an AFCON but this will most definitely lay the foundation for future success. Erstwhile dark horses and minnows are becoming powerhouses on the continent. We either sit up or become a laughing stock.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by caprikon: 10:28am On Jan 15
Chuks gave a glimpse to why he didn't shine consistently at Milan but is now flourishing at mid table Fulham.
Dude lacks elite mentality despite his obvious talent.

Chelle should give all the players without game time a chance in the loser's final. Akinsanmiro, Nnadi,Fago, Muhammed etc
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by caprikon: 7:15am On Jan 15
Nigerians have become accustomed to the team failing at the big stage. This loss wasn't as hurtful as the DRC loss. Just had that deja Vu feeling once it got penalties.

I have tagged this generation "Nearlymen" until the win something . Always at the cusp but falling slightly short.

The mentality of this group is weak. The big players go missing when it matters most.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by caprikon: 12:17am On Jan 15
This AFCON is officially over for the SE. We have too many bronze medals already. I think Egypt can take this one. lol.

If these guys don't win the next AFCON, then it is game over for the core of this generation. The team will go another rebuilding phase and AFCONs will be quadrennial.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by caprikon: 11:58pm On Jan 14
Chelle needs to get the team better prepared for PKs. Klopp did that in conjunction with a Neur11 and Liverpool won all their spot kick matches during that period. He can't be leaving it to chance.

Backing Morocco for the title.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by caprikon: 11:52pm On Jan 14
Chukwueze's attitude was more nauseating than the actual kick. Very carefree attitude. To imagine he was even brought on for penalties.

The final will be a very tough game but Morocco could edge Senegal. The officiating may not be as fair as it was in the semis

Kudos Chelle

This game is fitting for the final. Wouldn't be surprised if the actual final isn't as tough as this.

Good luck SE

Whatever happens, the NFF should retain Chelle.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by caprikon: 10:56pm On Jan 14
Tougher than expected.

Tactically both sides have cancelled each other but Morocco has the advantage.

Deep waters of extra time. Physical and mental fitness will decide.

Hope it ends within 120. Can't imagine watching penalties.
