Ozioma Ubabukoh Diamond Bank Plc and the National Youth Service Corps have introduced a curriculum vitae web repository and job portal as part of efforts to enhance employment for corps members. The Head, Retail Banking, Diamond Bank, Mr. Robert Giles, said that in accepting to be part of the portal project, the bank realised that youths needed more of information beyond banking. According to Giles, the youths need a platform to showcase themselves and their talents. He said that it was a good thing that the NYSC bought into the initiative. “We are proud to work with you (NYSC) and are committed to ensuring the sustainability of this initiative,’’ he added. According to the Director-General, NYSC, Brig. Gen. Sule Kazaure, the portal is an initiative of the NYSC Lagos State coordinator, the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development team and a group of corps members. “The portal is aimed at providing the links between outgoing corps members seeking white collar jobs and employers of labour who desire to employ qualified graduates based on their jobs specifications,” he said during the launch of the portal in Lagos. Kazaure said that despite the obvious difficulty in securing white-collar jobs and the overriding benefits of self-employment, many graduates were still inclined to trying their luck with paid employment. He said, “The portal we are launching will among other benefits, serve as a platform for corps members to get information on job vacancies and market themselves to prospective employers, serve as a large pool for employers searching for suitable candidates, and provide means of verification of credentials.” The NYSC boss said the NYSC had been taking steps to empower corps members for self-employment through the SAED programme and the in-camp and off-camp trainings in various skill areas, in partnerships with the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Bank of Industry through which corps entrepreneurs benefit from start-up loans at single-digit interest rates. The Vice-President, Business Development West, Sigma Pensions Limited, Mrs. Mabel George, said, “Our job is basically about helping people to plan for their future and with this portal, it makes everyone employable. “We are so excited that people can get employed and in turn have savings for their future. I see this as a wonderful initiative by the NYSC. We are here pledging our continuous support to this cause and anything that is going to help this country to become greater we always want to play a part of it.” http://punchng.com/diamond-bank-nysc-unveil-portal-for-graduate-employment/ |
Northern Senators have kicked against the implementation of the 2014 confab report. According to them, it is unfair to ask President Muhammadu Buhari to implement the report of the conference convoked by a former President, Goodluck Jonathan. The senators said this yesterday in Katsina, adding that President Buhari was neither privy to the conference’s underlying philosophy nor primary objectives, therefore, was not obliged to implementing it. The Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum, NSF, Abdullahi Adamu, said this at the opening of a two-day retreat of the forum in Katsina. He noted that, “The report is a fallacy borne out of ignorance and there is nothing radical about it.” He said that though the report had treated restructuring extensively, “It actually fell back on the status quo. It is mealy-mouthed about fiscal federalism. At the conference, the clamour for state police was deafening, yet what did the conference say about it? It merely recommended what it called second tier policing in the country with the modalities for implementation worked out between the centre and the constituent units of the federation. “We must also interrogate the legitimacy of the conference itself. Was it convened in accordance with the extant laws of the land? Was it intended to usurp the constitutional functions of the National Assembly? “The time has come for the senators to make their views known as their silence should not be seen as a sign of weakness on issues. It is as if we are sleeping on duty.” The meeting had in attendance 58 senators led by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki. Governors, of Katsina, Kebbi and Zamfara; the Sultan of Sokoto, Saad Abubakar, and Chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, Alhaji Ibrahim Coomassie, among others. http://dailypost.ng/2017/12/13/northern-senators-take-stand-implementation-jonathans-confab-report/ |

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will Monday perform the handing over ceremony by the outgoing leadership led by the Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi. The ceremony, which is expected to take place at the party’s National Secretariat at Wadatta House in Abuja, will mark the formal takeover of offices by other elected members of the national executive of the party. To add colour to the event, the Publicity Department of the PDP said that the new chairman, Uche Secondus, will be received at the entrance of the national secretariat along with other newly elected officers and party leaders. Secondus emerged victorious at last Saturday’s national convention after polling 2,000 votes to beat his closest rival and former Minister of Education, Prof. Tunde Adeniran, who got 230 votes. According to Sun, the riders made several bonfires along the expressway. The protesters are lamenting harassment they suffer in the hands of men of the state task force. At the moment, human and vehicular movement have been disrupted, while motorists are making a u-turn. Just yesterday, there were protests in Wuse Market and Berger area of the FCT. The protesters said a taxi driver was killed by a task force in the market.
