emperoracro: Gambling!?? Hahahahhaahahahahahaha Anyway some say it is but to me its not. 1) U can predict a trend fundamentally from a countries economic policies. Take for example, it was very obvious the dollar will rise against the naira wen our half brain leaders decided to devalue the naira. Other form of gambling doesnt give one d chance to analyse lik dis. 2) with gud money management n trainin u will stay long in d market n mak more profit. NB: am nt affiliated with any broker,so am nt a marketer, infact am currently on a break from forex cos contrary to public opinion, i see forex as time consuming, and am very busy rite now wt oda tins. Hmmm. It works for you then. It's all good. Real Estate is a good one if money is available. Or to be on the safe side, just fix your money and sleep well at night. |

emperoracro: i have listed dem out bfor and caracta has given an above average analysis of them.
@caracta every biz has some level of risk attached to it. Learning about the biz bfor jumpin into it is very important. As par start up biz, they ar very risky but u can reduce ur risk by knowing wat goes on behind d scene bfor investin ur money, am sure u knw dis already. And as par forex trading, dia ar ways u can minimise ur risks am sure u knw take profits and stop loses. All in all am impressed wt ur analyses. You are right. Especially when the business is illegal. Feasibility studies can help too. Trust is also important. I try not to invest in start up businesses because I can't shout. Growing businesses offer lesser risks. Even some banks don't give loans to new businesses. Forex trading? Hmmm. I don't want to go there. Lol. Maybe I've just been unfortunate. Isn't it gambling in a well-packaged form? |

duni04: Even if you want to do fixed income, there are fixed income securities that peg the interest they pay to the CBNs MPR rate which currently stands at 13%. Earning 7% or 8% a year is just scandalous, too scandalous! Seriously! 7% is just off. Haba! Ontop wetin? |

duni04: I started trading equities when I was 20 and i've never lost anything. Its when you ignorantly buy into a company without checking the history or fundamentals that you get burnt. Even if you ignorantly buy into a stock and the price dips, you only lose when you sell prematurely. If you're patient enough to wait for the price to climb back while enjoying the divends they pay you, where's the loss? I started when i was 19. I still have some but the dividends are almost as good as nothing. I'm going to trade them off soon sef. I just keep praying a miracle happens and the values go up. emperoracro: Flipping real estate Investing in startup biz Micro lending Forex trading Commodities etc Real Estate = Good, really good. Startup biz= Too risky Micro lending = Not bad, not too good. Forex trading = No, no for me. Being there, done that. Commodities = Good |

After all i lost, i wouldn't go near equities again. emperoracro: I don't know how anyone in his right mind will go and fix a sum of money below #1M as fixed deposit, when there are several other ways of increasing ur money. FD pays very low interest. On 500k, u will get less dan 6K for 2months, wen one can get over 70k investing in other tins. Treasury bill is better, but still no worth it to me, and Equity is quite risky cos most Nigerian company are shrouded in secrecy. Other ways like? |

I forgot to add range of amount though because if you are investing 5m and above u could probably negotiate a better rate on fixed deposit. Thanks for your correction True that. |

Weselion: You don't know how this has really opened my eye. God bless you for posting the most reasonable topic I have seen on Nairaland for 2 months now.
I have a question, can the time be extended to 2-3yrs or any time I want. For example, I want 1million naira to be withdrawn from my account and and paid back in 3yrs time with the interest You can fix for a year and give an instruction for it to be rolled over at maturity, either principal only or principal + interest. It can go on for as long as you want. It's risky though. Just be sure it's not a bank that can disappear . Good thing is, you have the option of terminating your investment at any time, You just get to lose 20% of the accrued interest. Your principal would still be intact. |
Investment › Re: Results On Comparing Fixed Deposit Interest Rates Between First Bank And Gtbank by Caracta(f): 5:33pm On Dec 13, 2014 |
ernie4life: Advice: instead of fixing your money for 90 days in banks and the will still charge u 10% withholding tax, why not buy treasury bills from CBN which comes with no withholding tax, the interest is paid upfront, it's very secured even more than banks and the rates are always higher than the inflation rate which is about 8% now
Disclaimer : Everything written here is my opinion not yours so keep your criticism to your self Nice one. However, for treasury bills, there is an annual charge now...though very little. It's "risk-free" too. Though sometimes, if you negotiate well, you can get higher rates from fixed deposit than treasury bills, Treasury bills has a minimum tenor of 91 days unlike fixed deposits that still takes 30 days. |

soonest: For 400000 at first bank what's the fixed limit For how long? It depends on the duration/tenor. What you get depends on your negotiation with the bank. |
Investment › Re: Results On Comparing Fixed Deposit Interest Rates Between First Bank And Gtbank by Caracta(f): 4:01pm On Dec 13, 2014 |
duni04: U never lose money in equities. You buy a stake in a company and if the company does well, the price climbs and you sell higher. If it doesnt, you wait till the next quarter. Very simple. That's apart from the dividend they pay u. It all depends on the principal you are bringing in. Note, you said IF the company does well. It's still a risk. The beauty of investment is that, there is something for everyone. |

Besides, these rates depend on negotiations. They are not fixed. I look at how much you are bringing in and the duration.
Again, these rates are not fixed. We only have fixed limits or benchmarks. Get your facts right. |

Oh well, most of us are hypocrites. I'd say no more. This Christmas, let the love go round.
Good job Cara. Keep it up Aisha2, you'd be rewarded in a better measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over. Amen o. God bless us all. Time to go hunt for my Christmas presents |

oluagness: Many poor people in society, aishatu giving on Christmas? Islamic way of recruiting poor, gullible, uncontentious and innocent Christian to Islam. One of Islamic agendas. Beware Whoops!!! And what have you done to 'recruit' Christians? Some of you are so....arrrggghhh! It's a good gesture. If you have a problem with the conditions, point it out sensibly...not condemning the OP or writing off the idea. Do you know how many people would do anything or how many single mothers would sleep with men just to get N2, 000 this Christmas? Don't deny one person and a child from smiling this season. Personally, I feel comfortable helping online. At least that way, the recipient would probably never see me or know my real name. It feels good to help when you know the person won't turn you to a god or see you outside and identify you. Yes the conditions may not be feasible but we can work something out (and I think she has). Well done Aisha2. Me likey |
