University Of Agriculture Makurdi Student Beats Colleague To Death
A student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi has gotten himself in very serious trouble after being accused of beating his colleague to death.

A 23-year-old student of Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, FUAM, Emeka Maluzie, was, yesterday, arraigned by the Police before a Makurdi Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly beating his fellow student to death, Vanguard reports.

The victim, Francis Ekoli, was until his death a final year student of the institution. Prosecuting Police officer, Sergeant Friday Kanshio, told the court that the father of the deceased, an Abuja-based legal practitioner, Mr. Edet Ekoli, had on May 24 reported to the Police that the accused conspired with his gang members, now at large, and beat up his son during an altercation.
He said the boy was rushed to Benue State University Teaching Hospital, BSUTH, for medical attention after the beating, but was confirmed dead by doctors. According to Sergeant Kanshio, during the Police investigation, the accused was arrested for allegedly committing the offence, while efforts were on to arrest others, currently at large, who were involved in the matter.

No plea was taken for want of jurisdiction and the prosecuting Police officer intimated the court that investigation into the matter was still ongoing and asked for an adjournment of the matter.

In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Isaac Ajim ordered that the accused be remanded at the Federal Prison, Makurdi, and adjourned the case till July 16 for further mention.

With the swearing-in of President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term tenure, the next great expectations from Nigerians will be to see the characters that will constitute the cabinet of the president for the next four years.

Already, the President has assured that unlike what happened during his first tenure, Nigerians will not have to wait six months this time around to see the list of his cabinet members. While the President will be expected to keep to his promise on the early appointment of the ministers, the quality, virtues and moral standing of those to be appointed, especially as related to the character of the government itself must be important considerations in making that decision.

Of course, the issue of competence cannot also be waived aside. Many Nigerians believed that some of the ministers in the first term cabinet of the President were not only ‘deadwood’ in terms of performance, but in character and moral standing, were the very antithesis of the anti-corruption stance of the administration, and dark stains on the widely acknowledged integrity of the President himself.

Certainly, the linkage of some members of the outgone cabinet to National Youth Service Corps Certificate scandal, allegations of corruption and ego-driven political struggles back in their homes state to the detriment of their duties in Abuja were definitely out of sync with all the anti-corruption and purposeful bent of the Buhari administration.

There are already suggestions in the public space on how the President should choose his next set of ministers. To ensure that the country is availed the opportunity of using its vast and rich human resources for its development without limitations of political affiliations, some have argued that the President should look beyond his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in constituting his cabinet this time around.
But some have also argued that the President cannot shut out party chieftains who traversed the nooks and crannies of the country to ensure he was re-elected for a second term. Indeed, chieftains of All Progressives Congress, APC, are already positioning themselves for appointment into the cabinet, using different subterfuges.

But even at that, the onus on patriotic members of the ruling party who understand what their party stands for to as much as possible help the President make the right choices. It is in this vein that I viewed the recent intervention by a pro- Buhari leadership and integrity advocacy group on the kind of person(s) that should represent Akwa Ibom in the President’s new cabinet as commendable.

The group, Akwa Ibom Integrity and Servant Leadership Culture Initiative had in a letter to the President, dated May 24, cautioned him against appointing Senator Godswill Akpabio or any other personality with corruption charges into his cabinet for the second term.

In the letter, entitled “Ministerial Appointments: Why Appointing Akpabio May be Counter Productive”, signed by its national coordinator, Dr. Asuquo Edidem Etim, the group had warned the President on why the former governor should not be on his list of consideration for appointment as minister. The group cited the profligacy with which the former Governor ran Akwa Ibom State for eight years as one of the reasons for the warning.

It also rightly warned that the former governor’s “corruption case with the EFCC has the potential of exploding into national embarrassment and credibility question for your government, should he be made a minister in a government that prides itself as anti-graft champion. We wish to remind you of your famous words, that ‘if we don’t kill corruption, corruption will kill us’.”
The group, which seems to be aligned to the APC, also spoke about the potential of Akpabio to become even a more destabilising factor, especially, to the Akwa Ibom chapter of the ruling party if he is more empowered with a ministerial position.
It’s also apt to acknowledge that the State Working Committee of the APC Akwa Ibom State has disowned the group and its leader which it accused of engaging in “disparaging campaign against l Akpabio and “evil fireworks meant to generate bad blood and disaffection in the party. In the same vein, a chieftain of Akwa Ibom APC, Mr Umana Okon Umana, who is also the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority, has also disowned the group as well as their recommendation that he should be appointed as minister to represent the state in President Buhari’s new cabinet.

But the group’s assertion of the need for Buhari, the ‘African anti-corruption champion’ to keep off the former governor is one that cannot be faulted. This is more so given the speculations that Akpabio’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC last year was inspired by the former governor’s bid to escape the searchlight of the anti-graft agency. The former Governor has been under the searchlight of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) since he left office after serving as governor of Akwa Ibom State in 2015.

He was first quizzed by operatives of the anti-graft agency a few months after he left office following a petition by a lawyer who is also an activist.

It can also be recalled that the former Akwa Ibom governor had during his defection to APC claimed that he was no longer under investigation. But this was swiftly denied by a former spokesman for the EFCC, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, who in a text message to journalists emphatically stated that Akpabio corruption’s case was still ongoing. “EFCC does not close cases or give clearance to anybody,” Wilson said.
It’s true that the former governor has not been taken through the judicial process, much less, declared guilty of the allegations.

But one of the grounds frequently used to dismiss the anti-corruption war of the Buhari administration in the past four years was that it was more or less aimed at ‘persecuting’ politicians in opposition or with opposing views. The inference was that the anti-graft agencies usually become powerless once any top politician under their searchlight identifies with the ruling party. There is the need to put an end to this perception of the noble efforts of the President to fight corruption.

Therefore, as one of the admirers of Buhari, I believe that the opportunity of the second term should be used by the President to indeed take anti-graft war to the next level with actions aimed at dispelling such insinuations.

The President can do this by ensuring that actions and initiatives that raise doubt about the intentions of his government on the anti-corruption war are given wide berth. And that take off point should be by ensuring that persons with corruption cases dangling on their necks like gory necklaces are not part of his cabinet. That’s why the President should heed the advice of the Akwa Ibom APC group on Akpabio.

After all, the Akwa Ibom chapter of APC has in its ranks persons who are not just even more qualified in terms of experience, academic attainments than the former governor but have also worked tirelessly to sustain the party in the state in the past four years.

Terhemba Thomas Ngorngor also known as Fleetman is a Nigerian entertainer, farmer, entrepreneur and a freedom fighter. He was born on the 17th f July 1993 at Mnguaorga clinic Madaini in Gassol Local Government area of Taraba state, in the family of Ngorngor Ikpaahindi, a native of Gaav in Konshisha local government area of Benue State. He grew up with his mother Mrs Msughter Miriam, the first daughter of Asemave Gbagyo. When he was 4 years old, he was sent to live with his aunt Mrs Terfa Yar in Dan Anacha. He survived the Tiv-Jukum-Fulani war in 2001. He spent most of his teenager years in Gbamkpo city, Sankera, Zaki Biam and Dan Anacha (Benue-Taraba). During this period, he attended Government day primary school Dan-Anacha, Hannank Nursery and Primary School Sankera, Trinity Secondary School Zaki Biam and Lante Kukwa comprehensive secondary school Jato-Aka. He spent his school breaks farming with his mother, elder sister Dooshima (late), his two elder brothers Gabriel Aondoawase and Terzungwe. His Mother was the biggest female farmer in Uyam, Ukum local government area of Benue State.

He started hawking kerosine and firewood during his secondary school days but his mother felt uncomfortable because he was too small and needed to focus more on his education whereas he was the best student in almost all the subjects.

From 2010 to 2014, he had more time to focus on farming and business. During this period, he usually travel to Kano to buy cell phones, cloths, furnitures and kitchen utensils and sell the the villagers.

In 2013, he got admission to study Theatre Arts at Benue State University Makurdi, where he graduated in 2018 with a second class upper degree. He started establishing in the entertainment business during his university days. He wrote and directed a movie titled Ibumegh Ta Bônkô ( foolishness of the highest esteem). The movie was produced with his friends in 2016 and premiered on the 16th of december 2017 at Twin Lecture Theatre (TLT) 2nd campus, Benue state University Makurdi. His entire life changed when he met Susie Martinez on the 6th of April 2014 through Facebook.

On the 10th of July, his company “Veremba World Entertainment Limited” was incorporated under the COMPANIES AND ALLIED MATTERS ACT 199O by CORPORATE AFFAIRS COMMISSION FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA. The company is specialized in Entertainment and Agriculture. He debuted his first single titled Be The One ft his friend Attraction, produced by Cirus to mark his birthday on the 17th of July 2017. His collaboration with Emmytee and SMK produced Ghetto Life single few months later. He collaborated with Emmytee, EMS and SMK in January 2018 to react against BENUE MASSACRE in a song titled SEKPE. Sekpe video was his debut video directing. On the 27th of May 2018, he was honored with an AWARD OF EXCELLENCE at the first edition of MIDDLE BELT HEROES AWARD 2018. He released Dookwase on the 15th of June 2018. On his 25th birthday (July 2018), he celebrated appealing to the gods of Nigeria and the Nigerian Entertainment Industry to Untie his blow blow in a single titled Untie My Blow. The song made way for him to penetrate the industry with ease. Fleetman organized a live band concert and award night to celebrate Nigeria’s independence on the 1st of October 2018 At Royal Choice Inn Makurdi. Tahav Agerzua, a former Special Adviser to governor Samuel Ortom on Media and ICT has responded to Abubakar Tsav’s critic of the Benue governor over alleged politicizing of the issue of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.

Mr. Agerzua in a statement titled “Tsav lacks moral right to tackle Gov. Ortom on IDPs” expressed great dismay saying “Our attention has been drawn to media reports in which a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, has criticised Governor Samuel Ortom for what he described as his politicizing the issue of the Internally Displaced Persons in the state.

“If Alhaji Tsav had a genuine concern on state matters there are better channels of communication with the Governor other than in the media.
By resorting to the media, the former Police Commissioner is rather the one playing politics with the issue.
“This is not surprising as it has become apparent that his criticism is founded on partisanship and nothing else.” He said.

“That the APC has failed to live up to its responsibilities the consequence of which is the sacking of thousands of people from their ancestral homes who have resorted to IDP camps is already an indictment on that party and its members.
“If the former Public Complaints Commissioner in Benue State had any conscience he should not have been the one to raise the issue of those displaced.

“More so that as a privileged Nigerian he has not shown his own contributions towards alleviating the plight of those affected.

He went further to say that “The Benue State Government has also taken Alhaji Tsav to court for falsehood and the matter is still pending.

“From the foregoing the retired police commissioner cannot be disposed to making fair comments on Governor Ortom and his administration.

“It is therefore apparent that Alhaji Tsav has ulterior motives for making his obviously partisan comments which include lobbying for favors from the powers that be.” He added.

A rape lawsuit against Juventus forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, has been quietly dropped, the UK Mirror reports.

A notice of voluntary dismissal was filed last month in Nevada State Court.

The filing didn’t say whether the accuser had reached a settlement with the Portuguese player.
It was reported in March that Juventus, the Italian league champions, wouldn’t participate in the International Champions Cup in the US this summer, to avoid the risk that Ronaldo would be detained by authorities as part of a rape investigation.

Ronaldo publicly denied the allegations and never filed a response to the lawsuit.

Leslie Stovall, a lawyer representing the woman who sued Ronaldo, has refused to respond to a request for comment on the dismissal.
