Jonathan is respected gentle man who is very diplomatic in his political dealings with people, he consulting with the political bigwigs of this country, he doesn't want to do it alone, he is a wise man. Everybody cannot like one person, so the few people that does not see any good thing in what GEJ is doing are doing so becouse they dont seem to like him, but i'm very sure that many still like the man and they are really in support of his noble anbition.

Fellow Nigerian and the good people of Nigeria, I really would like to bring the attention to all who and sundry over the proposed 6billion Naira for our 50yrs anniversary celebration and also trying to arm twist oil companies to cough 400 million naira .
It's an indicator that our dealers don''t mean us any good and without any prejudice, President Jonathan is the champion of this big fraud. Here we are in a country where pensioners have not been paid in months, doctors are going on strike , infrastructural breakdown, massive unemployment and crime and the list goes on , at this point, it's obvious to see that if Jonathan and his cohorts could start off at this pace , it leaves a very bitter and bad taste in the mouth and we can only pray that the good lord should save us from our leaders

Begin praying then if thats all you can only do.

South-west has what it will take to balance power and stabilize democracy in Nigeria today.

OBJ and co are doing the right thing, may be not necessarily for the right reason, may be as it could be termed a pay-back time. Yet it is their God given opportunity to work for the good of our dear nation.

If Goodluck Ebele Jonathan gets the pdp ticket with this zoning in place, then the next pdp zoning will be absolutely the south's or else!

It is called consultations, it is politics, it is the right thing to do.

Babangida, corrupt or not is a political heavy weight today in Nigeria and a stake holder.
You make consultations, you meet with some people of influence, that is how to go about it.
The meeting was a good one and ended well. Babangida is only standing for the northern interest in the
zoning arrangement, it is their right to produce the pdp presidential candidate, you may think him a criminal but he is no fool, he is the only one in the north with the gut to challenge GEJ or atleast influence his challenge. Politically he is not doing anything wrong presently, he knows how to play the game. We are almost running a one party system and pdp has it all put together, any candidate that emerges as the pdp candidate has the vote of the pdp faithfuls, it is assumed that every pdp member is to vote for the pdp candidate. Babangida wants the north to the ticket and then the second face of the campaign will begin, which is that every member should vote for the candidate.

If GEJ fails to grab the pdp ticket, he should forget about his ambition to contest, optionally he will join another party
or form one and break the pdp arrangement because the party will become divided and the nation will certainly be affected.

I am not suprised you know lazy nigerians. I can bet my life you were deported. No worry oluwole still de. try your luck.  grin

I have never been and can never be deported, i have my documents intact.

Tell the truth, have you not heard of a Nigerian who defected to Nigeria because he was posted to one
of these waring countries? I know somethings that happen in the Us military camp, a US army lady once boasted and i quote "i make more money prostituting than i make as my salary", her target in the camp are the senior officers, i know that apart from your pay-pack, a little part-time gay escapades helps some military boys.
I know that military job is the last or should i say a rare choice for anybody in the US.

Being a military man in the US can be equated with being a military man in Nigeria, the difference is the economy, its just as honorable as being a military man here bro.

That my guy is enough to kill a man's moral.

I can't change my mentality to surrender like you, i have been friends with some Nigerians who were in US army, i have been around many of them who were not my friends, i know their mentality. Mostly unproductive incapable lazy lousy loudmouths, they think they know it all, they think they have arrived until they are posted to Afghanistan, Iraq or just south Korea, then you see the so called Nigerian born brave US soldiers defect to Nigeria.

Second class citizenship is not my aspiration. Nigerian boys in the US army are mostly losers who could not make ends meet, they joined the army to find solace, many could not fend for themselves, they live as though they are niggas

Fantastic response Care-Taker. This is what I always tell people - Stop carrying ''Nigeria'' on your head. Do YOUR bit to help build the nation and leave the rest for others, including generations yet unborn. Walking around all self-righteous, pointing fingers, and saying ''Nigeria hasn't done this for me, and hasn't done that for me'' is absolutely counter-productive, and makes one a part of the problem

what most fail to realize is that your idea of "GOOD" is complete rubbish to a foreign national. Good is when you can depend on the police to come within 5 minutes of calling them. Good is when there is electricity to power the electronic devices you spent your hard earned funds to purchase. Good is when you can depend on the healthcare system to cater for your family's needs. Good is when you can hope for a reasonable chance of employment when you graduate from college. Good is when you embark on a journey of 2hrs and get there in 2hrs. Not get there in 6hrs because of bad roads and police extortion points. Good is when you cast your vote and you are sure it counts. You see my fellow Nigerian, you can color the truth with words but the evidence is abound for all to see.

Good is also when you take up challenges and face them squarely because you understand them to be
your responsibilities.

Good is when sensibly you get to understand that the whole earth was void and formless before God effected changes on it.

Good is when you grow up to understand that nothing will or can change on its own except someone change it.

Good is when you grow some balls between your legs and wage wars against the challenges of life as a man
instead of running away like runaway soldiers (Absent without leave=AWOL).

Good is understanding that to be declared a winner, you ought to have won.
knowing that a victor is one who had victory over something.
An overcomer had to overcome some challenges.
A champion must have defeated opponents or opposition.

I have conjectured that most of the participants in this thread are teenagers who have never suffered business failure as a result of the faulty system in naija. They have never had to go into hiding every night because of night marauders. They never spent hours in the traffic to cover 5 kilometers. They never spent 2 years on this streets with 2 university degrees jobless - and then get a cleaning job working for a foreigner with primary school qualif.

No matter how you deny it, its happening still. Oh yes, they happen abroad as well but how many of those crimes have our police solved? Its not about it happening in yankee as well. Its about what government does about it when it happens. Our police is about collecting roja by the roadside shamlessly. You even have to roja government workers to do their job. Tell me has that stopped? Ive been away for donkey years. Do they still collect roja using that hand to hand slap movement along the highway. Do you still have to buy fuel for police before they respond to an emergency? Do they still get away with beating up people for no reason? Have our politicians mustered enough courage to challenge known fraudsters in government. Has politics changed from lootocracy to democracy.

We all love naija. I would not have any other home but I am dissapointed the way it is now. And yes I do voice my anger even when among foreigners. They need to know the truth. Dont get me wrong I do tell them Abuja is pretty but I also tell them basic amenities dont work unless you can afford them yourself and pay tax to government as well.

Its not a matter of denying the truth to express a fake sense of patriotism like these young posters here are doing. Nor is it about opening a dictionary and quoting all abusive terms in it.

A whole lot of Nigerians abroad love home and want to be back. What guarantee is there that if you establish that business back home power supply will be ther after you pay your taxes? After 50yrs of personal aggrandisement, its only now governement is thinking of privatising power supply. With all the oil and gas? Even UK with 24/7 power imports gas from us.

God bless Nigeria --- NO! (he already blessed us, he gave us everything we need - even more than UK and other countries.)

A friend just came back from Nigeria after nearly 3yrs abroad. She had to run away from the hotel she lodged at Port Harcourt because they were attacked in the night. One woman was "taken" by the kidnappers. She said she lost around 100k she already deposited for her stay. She had to downgrade to a cheaper hotel to save cost.

Thats not all. While she was here, she sent her hard earned cash back home to help purchase a piece of land. (Which is why she went home). She has now started the building project but guess what?

As soon as she came back here last sunday, there was a call from Nigeria that someone had come up to claim the land belonged to them. Where have they been since the land was lying fallow? I mean she bought the land more than 2 years ago. She has since spent a large sum of money trying to solve the problem on phone.

Her account of Nigeria is heart breaking. Kidnapping, armed robbery, no power supply, virtually everyone is a self styled "Don Colleoni" of some sort. They all talk how connected they are with criminals and how they will "take" you if you mess with them.

I was planning to go as well during Christmas but honnestly I am frightened out of my wits with these stories. What if they detect this slight accent I have developed over the years here? I still talk like a correct Ibo man but sometimes "aint", "gonna" and "wanna" slips out of my mouth involuntarily. I no dey pretend O. It comes automatically when you stay and work with oyibo for a little while.

I hear these vile criminals have their antenae corked and ready for such slip ups. I am not a bling person by nature. I thought this would protect me but I heard these guys can sniff out someone from abroad 2 kilometres away.

To the first poster, there is really not a lot of good information about Nigeria right now. Its all about "potential" and "what might have been" or "what should happen if". Some people what to kill you for expressing your feelings. How can we not talk about the negatives. Where do these people who want people not to talk of the problems live at? Majority of the people live with no good roads, no power supply, bribery and corruption. It was like that 10 yrs ago, 5 yrs ago and its worse today - add kidnapping.

One poster here said he lived a pampered life and as such cannot criticise the country. Pathetic. You can as well accept a goverment post and turn a blind eye to the sorry plight of the nation. This is the issue. We are tired of the "potentials" of Nigeria. We want results for our taxes. We want to be safe in our own country. I for one want to come back home. I want to rest assured I will not be killed when I do so. I hate the sound of generator. I want to sleep without sweating all night. Dont tell me to spend my own money to acquire these comforts because even before I left Nigeria I have always paid my taxes and will continue doing so.

If you were sheilded from reality by your parent's wealth or by being pampered all your life, how can you hold this discussion? You obviously dont have a clue what you are talking about. You probably never went to any of the poor neighbourhoods all your life. Have you boarded any of the over crowded and ramshackle public transports? If you ever lived abroad like you claimed, tell me the truth, have you not at some times cried in your heart for Nigeria when you realise we could be as good as these foreign countries? We have all the blessings a country can ever wish for. A large population, abundance of mineral resources, a very intelligent set of people (sometimes too intelligent for their own good). Yet for 50yrs, we cannot separate between constructive criticism and patriotism.

To the poster who said even foreigners wanted to come back after being kidnapped. Why will a foreign national not want to return to Nigeria? They earn more than they can get back home. They live like gods in Nigeria. I actually worked in an oil servicing firm in Nigeria as well. I left when my contract finished. It was like living in heaven. The salary was good. All the amenities were there. You would not believe you were in Nigeria. But ,  step out of the company quarters, the tale was different. The inhabitants of the town where we were sitauted were living in total and abject poverty. The rivers were poluted, the roads were not good. Yet we rode around in air conditioned jeeps and got fat salaries. Will all these make me deny the dire economic situation in Nigeria? No. I know telling the truth will not make me love naija any less.

How can you say something positive about a governement that cannot deal with the most basic of issues despite Nigeria Inc being a very proffitable venture. Its been 50yrs and we still do not have stable electricity. Only that would be enough to transform the nation. Forget every other thing, only electricity will bring industrial development.

God bless Nigeria --- NO! (he already blessed us, he gave us everything we need - even more than UK and other countries.)

GOD HELP NIGERIA --- YES (we need his grace - to save us from the children of the politicians and corrupt bureaucrats who come to nairaland to defend their  parents)

I can see you are still a child and needs to be taught in everything. (1) When the Americans say "God bless America", is it because they are not already blessed? i mean from your own little knowledge of the meaning of being blessed

It is idiots like you with a deep inferiority complex who will readily spit on anything Nigerian.

Fact is, if you DON'T want to see anything positive about Nigeria, you won't. If you DO, you will.

The fact you DON'T want to see anything positive can be seen by your silly list above: ''Chilld abuse - yes, women abuse - yes'' etc etc.

What rubbish is that?

What country on earth does not experience child abuse and so on, even more than Nigeria?

Or ''company closing down - yes''.

What about the companies STARTING UP?

Are they not Nigerian?

''Roads - no''.

Which large developing country on earth has a perfect road network? Not one. Those things take time to accomplish, and it's no reason for you to insult the country.

If you wish to see bad alone, that's ALL you'll see.

And as for the original poster, I think you're a complete disgrace, although I don't really blame you, since you picked up your inferiority complex and self hatred from other so-called Nigerians.

I had your attitude many many years ago when I lived in the US. There I met a Liberian guy at a party, who'd just fled the civil war there. We began discussing outside the gig. He asked me about Nigeria. I began insulting the country, almost without thinking. Just a stream of negativities,   The guy was shocked and looked at me in horror. ''How can you speak like that about your country''? he asked. He said Liberia was a total wreck, having fled from civil war, but he could never speak of his country with such disdain.

I felt so little -  me,  a pampered middle class Nigerian who'd benefitted from some of the best services an African country could offer its citizens, from a good education at a Federal govt college, to well paid parents living the Nigerian Dream, with two cars and a duplex + househelps, and the odd summer trip to London, and here I was being lectured on love for my country by a guy who was fleeing civil war and societal breakdown of a kind I couldn't imagine.

From that day, I began to love Nigeria, and will always thank God for Nigeria, and pray for its continued progress come what may, and highlight, when speaking to foreigners especially, the beauty and generosity of its people, and the mighty potential of the country.

I love this testimony, some banks folded up in the US.

Should we run away from our country because we think things are not exactly the way we think it should be It will never be if we don't make it to be as we would have it be. You can change anything, nothing can change until you change it, quitting qualifies you as a failure and ofcourse a coward. i have also lived abroad, i knew there were challenges in Nigeria, i decided to come back home to face them, i cannot run away from them.

God bless Nigeria! grin grin grin

Well, one of the product is that many more people are shunning vote-selling, because we are advocating for change, we know if we don't educate people on how to effect the desired change, nothing will change. we know people are ashamed to be associated with Nigeria because of the corruption in the land, we know people want to associate with good. Our campaign have continued and many are joining us, Most of them are not computer literate and so many are not registered with our yahoo group or online group. We are now anticipating good, confessions will change, the news about Nigeria and Nigerians will change and people will once again begin to identify with Nigeria and our citizens will proudly boast of their citizenship. Corruption, fraud and robbery will reduce to its minimal and you will see one of the most faithful and dedicated creatures on the face of the planet earth. May i remind you that the state of your nation determines the treatment you get in many circumstances? i have traveled and  seen people treated on the basis of their country's political and economic statuses to be precise and the way our people are treated do psycologically affect their behavior, attitudes and responses and we are creating awareness on the causes of these treatments; identifying them and how they can be tackled. Charity they say begins at home, we have to put our home in order and the result will be our expectation.
