"All the primary schools in Okrika are surrounded by houses and we don't want the schools to be surrounded by residential houses where people cook and sell and distract the pupils, so we have to demolish them. We want to pay them compensation and demolish the houses". ~ Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State in Nigeria on August 24, 2010. "But what I am telling you is that you always say you must demolish, that word must you use is not good. It is by pleading. You appeal to the owners of the compound because they will not go into exile. Land is a serious issue". ~ Mrs. Patience Goodluck, the first wife of President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria. The above exchange of words between the First Lady, Mrs. Patience Goodluck Jonathan and Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers state took place in Okrika last Tuesday August 24, 2010, when Mrs. Jonathan criticized the governor for his insistence to demolish water fronts to build a primary school. After the unpleasant incidence, she left the state without completing her tour as she angrily returned to Abuja from her civic reception ground in Okrika. She no longer visited prisons where some inmates were waiting to be released and she cancelled the inspection of the model Secondary School at Ebubu Eleme. Madam First Lady Patience Goodluck Jonathan has been throwing her weight around and supported by the desperate camps of President Goodluck Jonathan who have been paid millions of naira, including many Nollywood actors, to use image laundering to delete the money laundering case against Mrs. Patience Goodluck and her proxies. Lest we forget that on September 11, 2006, Mr. Osita Nwajah, the EFCC spokesman made a public declaration that a whopping sum of $13.5 million Dollars (US) was seized from Mrs. Patience Jonathan, the wife of then Governor of Bayelsa State, Mr. Goodluck Jonathan “Abia is number one (of corrupt state) not because it is number one alphabetically, but because we have one of the biggest established cases of stealing, money laundering, diversion of fund against Governor Kalu. The governor used his mother, daughter, wife and brother to divert N35billion to build his business empire including Slok Airlines, Slok Pharmaceuticals and newspaper house…Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu corruption is of international dimension.There is s also a petition against the Governor of Bayelsa’s wife. She was involved in laundering the sum of one hundred and four million into foreign account. She is also being investigated.” ~ Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, during the plenary section of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which held on September 27, 2006. The case is suit number FHC/ABJ/M/340/06 filed on August 21, 2007 at the Federal High Court, Abuja. For a detailed account of the EFCC case of money laundering implicating Mrs. Goodluck Jonathan, see http://www.nigeriansinamerica.com/articles/4265/1/Jonathan-Goodlucks-Family-Sahara-Reporters-Ribadu-or-Adewuyi-Who-Lied-Against-Whom/Page1.html Jonathan Goodluck’s Family, Sahara Reporters, Ribadu or Adewuyi: Who Lied Against Whom? Nigeria can never move forward until all the thieves are rooted out of the system and made to pay for their crimes. Someone asked in another thread concerning paltinuk if all nigerians are sammers?Of course the answer is YES, judging from the fact that all our leaders,statesmen and women are all rogues and the masses don't tend to see any thing bad in it. Stealing,scamming and corruption are constitutionally rooted in the nigerian code of conducts. |

Mr. & Mrs. Goodluck Jonathan cannot sweep their own corruption under the carpet and expect Nigerians to support them. |

Please corruption is corruption Let us not engage in selective appreciation of corruption whether it is by Tinubu, IBB, Jonathan or Patience Jonathan. Let us agree that all are corrupt so that we can now find a pragmatic solution to what is a National Cancer. What I find unacceptable is the willingness to call IBB, Tinubu and co corrupt while denying those of Jonathan and his wife. |

mikeansy: I don't know when rumours became proof of corruption. I cannot vouch for anybody and if indeed, she is guilty, let the law take its cause. But I know one thing; the law says, "innocent until proven guilty." These allegations seem to be little more than another IBB sponsored smeer campaign. I have seen this pretty strong rebutal elsewhere;
Rumour mongering can't make a person guilty. |
Re: Mrs.patience Goodluck Jonathan: From Money Laundering To Image Laundering? by Nobody: 6:22pm On Aug 31, 2010 |
Beaf: I do agree with you that it should be "innocent until proven guilty" The wife of Jonathan nor Jonathan himself has been convicted by any court But let us also extend that goodwill to the rest because as unpleasant as it sounds and I must admit I have also fallen guilty of these wrong accusations. IBB or Tinubu have not been convicted by any courts in Nigeria. |

^ Tinubu was found guilty of drug related business in the US and had to forfeit half a million dollars to the US govt. I know for certain that he cannot visit the US now or ever again. So, yes, Tinubu is a convict. This is what the Justice Oputa Panel recommended on the death of Dele Giwa, so it isn't just rumour; "on General Ibrahim Babangida, we are of the view that there is evidence to suggest that he and the two security chiefs, Brigadier General Halilu Akilu and Col. A. K. Togun are accountable for the death of Dele Giwa by letter bomb. We recommend that this case be re-open for further investigation in the public interest." |

Beaf: If there is evidence that these guys are criminals as you claim, then somebody is not doing their job properly. What does it say of Jonathan's ability to fight corruption if people that corruption fight should have sent to jail are rather running for the highest office in the land? Any way you look at it it is better to concentrate on what Jonathan can do or how qualified he is for the job than talking about other people's corruption profile. Because lets face it, The findings of Oputa panel is not binding on anyone. It is up to the Government of the day through the office of the Attorney General to do something about it by taking the individual to court. As we speak Bello Adoke, Johnny Boy's AGF is not doing anything about the Okigbo report and oil windfall. He does not seem to have enough evidence. So just like you can point to media reports of Oputa Panel, or media reports of Okigbo report, some others can also point to media report of Mrs Jonathan's corruption scandal and petition lying untouched at either ICPC or EFCC about Patience Jonathan. All of these allegations have not been substantiated. Let us leave these messy politics and mudslinging aside because Jonathan will not come out of it unhurt. Because as we speak there has not beeen an explanation of some of the bogus spending spree by the Jonathan administration. The 32b excess crude account Jonathan shared just to get a ridiculous endorsement from Governors forum has neither been explained nor has it had an impact on the lives of the mass of our people except swelling the pocket of Governors. All that also amount to corruption and a ridiculous one at that because as soon as Yar'adua was missing the constitution gives Jonathan the right to step in as acting President. So the whole doctrine of Necessity by NASS was never necessary. The whole endorsement from Governors forum for Jonathan to be acting President were never needed. All of the money spent during that period was enormous waste and some of it amounts to corruption because it is QUID PRO QUO. So lets leave the debate about who is more corrupt than who and concentrate on who is more up to the job, because the debate gets a little bit more boring when everyone starts mudslinging. |

^ It doesn't say anything negative about his abilities. In the real World, Nigeria is horribly unstable, people from a section of the country keep making both overt and covert threats; maintaining stability is Jonathans first priority, if he exercises poor judgement and chases after heavyweights at this time, the country will suffer greatly. Nobody newly comes into power and starts getting into all sorts of fights, no, the wise will bide their time and only strike when they are well bedded in. The 32b excess crude account is an illegal account and the governors have every right to demand it be liquidated, because Nigeria has a revenue sharing formula enshrined in law. The excess crude account is not backed by any law, so your argument is going nowhere. Instead, Jonathan as an exemplary leader, has seen the loop holes and is fastracking the Sovereign Wealth Fund which is 100% well thought out. Indeed, $1billion has been set aside for its takeoff. The Sovereign Wealth Fund is a financial vehicle that designed from the ground up, to work for the country, the same way as other oil producing like Dubai etc, have been able to maximise and strategise national investments and grow at rapid rates. Jonathan is Nigeria's first thinking President. He is the one that will put us on the path to development finally. You guy's have very selective views, and are clutching at very weak straws to give a dog a bad name, because there have been strong movements against corruption that have already yeilded very positive results for the country. For example, how come you guy's haven't noticed that there has been a wholesale clear out of corrupt individuals in the NNPC and at the ports? The fuel we get at the right prices and in abundance didn't happen by accident. Jonathan is the best thing for Nigeria at this time. |

Government saving money so that we do not spend our way into unmanageable debt is not backed by law? expecially when our expenditures are usually going down the drain due to corruption? Do we need a special bill for Government to save money for future generations? Please where is the bill for Government to repair bad roads? Where is the bill for Government to build schools? hospitals? No wonder some people thought it was necessary to wait for NASS to declare them acting President before they carry out their constitutional function as VP and acting President in waiting. They clearly are not ready to lead except NASS prompts them to. I should like to think after 50years of failures and misfits. We deserve something better. Jonathan is the best thing for Nigeria at this time? You can as well try to sell ice to the eskimos. |

mikeansy: How can your idea of a developed Nigeria be one where things are done on an ad hoc basis? Tell me you are kidding! Are you promoting a path to caveman status for Nigeria with your advocacy for lawlessness and ad hoc policies? The absence of law is the very definition of chaos. The absence of planning and organisation is the definition of a brutish, failing, backward society. Lawlessness is at the root of all Nigeria’s problems, everything is ad hoc, cut and join govt, cut and join taxes, cut and join society , cut and join religious leaders, cut and join federalism etc. If we continue this way, we will soon fall off the cliff. How will lawlessness, chaos and ad hoc policies provide the hospitals, schools, savings for future generations etc? Your arguments are self-defeating, each point just strangles the other. It is no wonder that up till now, we have not tasted the positive developments Nigeria’s abundant endowments should have concretised after 50 years of existence. Instead, it has been 50 years of navigating the same circle, sometimes backwards, sometimes forwards, but always the same circle to nowhere. The only route out of our pitiable circumstances, is back up of our steps and vision with concrete laws – that is exactly what Jonathan is doing. Our first deliberate, thoughtful President with his eye on the ball. Yes, we need laws, we need planning, we need organisation, we need foresight. Anyone having these things could “as well try to sell ice to the Eskimos” repeatedly and successfully. Based on his achievements so far, Jonathan will do for us what no other has done. Uncle Joe, carry go! Your Sovereign Wealth Fund is the best thing since sliced bread. Nigeria is the only oil producing country without such a framework. Thank God, we now have a man with vision. |
