Truth they say is bitter, if you can't afford simple stuffs are standardized exams WTF are you doing here, would you rather waste the little money you have on a wild goose chase? And why in God's name should I or anyone help you, this is a faceless forum , you are nothing to anyone.... Think deeply

Let's be reasonable, if you can't afford about $600 for both tests how would you afford about $18000/year for school fee? You can ask for toefl waiver from any schools through emails and/or calls but saying you don't do one because you can't afford it worries me.
Thanks for being reasonable but my post was in response to someone who says he knows schools that don't require TOEFL.I might still end up writing the exam but must I limit the wealth of information I can get here.

By the way,we never stop learning.

Yet you can somehow magically afford to pay your school fees, SEVIS, Visa fee, flight... You're a joke abeg abroad is not for everyone. Try UNIBEN
Please don't mention me if you can't help.
Do you know what some people pass through in real life just to get fund.

I'm yet to write the GRE because I'm unemployed and not financially buoyant for now. I stumble upon a post that might seem helpful and you come here to make rash comment.

Please respect yourself and ignore my post if you have nothing to contribute

Its cos of people like you that fights and insults ensue here.

The pocket is not that gallant because I plan to apply to like 5 schools , I have shortlisted those that doesn't require Toefl, those that doesn't need credential evaluation, and some even accept unofficial transcript until given admission
Bro please can you gimme a rundown of schools that don't require TOEFL.I can only afford the GRE too.

Masters degree is master degree, what you get out of it depend on the courses you took and there are usually core courses to prepare you in any area(s) you find yourself within your masters.
As for your HND you can join the other thread and read at least the last 50 pages, someone made mention of HND/OND conversion to BSc. (I do not know about that). Goodlock
Please what's the link name or link to that thread.

happyday:
Don't over complicate issues, bro. We call it postgraduate program here in Nigeria. They call it graduate program in the US.

I need to ask: Are you planning to apply with your HND?

Most schools require that you've a baccalaureate degree in your proposed course. That's equivalent of a Bachelor's degree.

But, don't take my word for it.

Look for your desired course, and Google any TWO schools offering the course at the graduate level.

Next, find out the contact email of the coordinator (there's always someone to contact, if prospective applicants have questions and inquiries).

Contact the individual for the two schools. Let your email be short, straight-to-the-point and brief.

AFAIK, schools offer a. M. Eng. b. MSc and c. PhD

M. Eng. pretty much applies to those who would want to come in from industry, for graduate study.

MSc is for preliminary research. Think of this as the NEUTRAL gear while driving. You go for MSc if you want to test the waters, if research is your pot of soup, or not.

PhD is the highest point of academic research - research zenith. You bring so many skills to bare here. Your creativity, perseverance, resilience and determination will go far than any other thing. Any other thing like your talent, GPA or GRE scores.
Oops,finally someone responds
Thanks a lot brother
Yes,I want to apply with my HND
I'll mail the school's graduate co ordinator as you suggested for more enquiries.

I plan to write the GRE early next year whilst in my nysc period.
I have obtained my HND in Electrical Engineering with a 3.08/4 CGPA

,checked online to find out the duration of a post graduate program but stumbled on a post that says postgraduate study falls into three categories

1. Professional masters for employment after the program
2. Academic masters for further studies
3. Doctoral degree

Meanwhile a source told me I'll have to obtain a post graduate degree before applying for a master's program.
Don't understand the logic here
Can you help me out?
Please can anyone explain this to me?

Has PEMDAS Really Taken Over From BODMAS?

"In those days", one of the rules of Algebra in solving of equations was to use the mnemonics BODMAS - as the order of operations to follow....

B - for Brackets
O - for Of
D - for Division
M - for Multiplication
A - for Addition
S - for Subtraction

Yesterday while discussing this "almighty" order of solving equations with a young undergraduate, he politely informed me that my BODMAS of yesteryears is no more! That rather it is now PEMDAS that is now being taught in schools and colleges.....

P - for Parentheses
E - for Exponent
M - for Multiplication
D - for Division
A - for Addition
S - for Subtraction

While an ancient like me can allow the fresh nomenclatures for "Brackets" and "Of" of yesteryears, when did "Division" lose its position for "Multiplication"? He could not answer me!

Finally, is it now true that "Multiplication" has taken precedence over "Division" against what the Entebbe Workshop that became "Modern Mathematics" of the 1960s taught to people of my generation?
Your arrangement is not in order

P. Parenthesis
E Exponent
D Division
M Multiplication
A Addition
S Subtraction

I came across it in barron's GRE prep book
Its virtually the same as BODMAS and multiplication hasn't taken the place of division.

Bless up sirRiddy.

Meanwhile i would like to host #RcSaturday for those who are yet to take the test

1. Get a reading habit

2. Read standard materials (aldaily.com , newyorker, new York times, economist and above all Wikipedia.com) on Wikipedia when you practice and see a frequent topic eg women rights, astronomy, international trade, book criticism, industrial revolution, and this black American guy that died in Ghana that fought for blacks (I can't remember his name now) etc... Read anything that comes to mind fully.

3. When you read try to form gre questions to what you read and give a specific answer to it.

4. Most RCs have patterns, main idea, scope and purpose and supports... E.g nairaland.com is for information (main idea), nairaland.com is easily accessible and meets required needs (scope), there is a thread that helps with better gre performance (purpose), SirRiddy got high scores using nairaland.com...

Imagine this question what is the primary purpose of following the gre thread

1. Like sirRiddy, to help people get high scores
2. To show that nairaland.com is also as accessible like cnn.com
3. To improve the standard of gre test takers
4. To help gre test takers achieve better scores
5. To help in sharing information amongst recent gre takers

To be contd in a bit bosses
That's a good exercise

The answer is most likely '5'

Please don't forget to add me to the Facebook Group page

Thanks
