The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Iyorchia Ayu, has said he will not respond to comments made by Governor Nyesom Wike of the Rivers State.

Ayu and Wike have been locked in a cold war since the Rivers Governor lost the presidential ticket of the opposition party to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.

PDP crisis worsens as Wike insists on Ayu’s resignation

Ayu had lauded the primary, hailing Governor Aminu Tambuwal who stepped down for Atiku as the hero of the convention.

Wike had subsequently accused Ayu of bias, saying he was unfit to lead the PDP.


He had also asked the PDP chairman to step down, saying it was improper for the PDP presidential flagbearer and chairman to hail from the same zone.


Responding in an interview with BBC, Ayu vowed not to step down. He had said those seeking to oust him were children.

Wike had fired back at Ayu, saying he was an ingrate. He claimed that the former senator was brought to be PDP chairman.

In a statement by Simon Imobo-Tswam, Ayu’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, the PDP chairman accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of planting stories in the media to compound the crisis rocking the party.

Ayu further said his attention had been drawn to “mischievous and senseless posts on the social media” about him casting aspersions on the person of the Rivers Governor, adding that “nothing can be more diabolical, senseless and amateurish.”

The opposition leader said while he would not descend so low, “We state, categorically and without equivocation, that the posts are completely false. Even the inelegant construction of the posts puts them beneath Ayu.

“Ayu never said anything after Wike’s statements yesterday, and does not intend to say anything in response.”

Governor Wike prays for those who are working against Rivers state to be confused by the God of Confusion.

Governor Nyesom Wike has accused President Muhammadu Buhari and a former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, of attempting to interfere in the 2019 elections but the people of Rivers State resisted the alleged attempt.

Wike stated this on Wednesday in the Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state when he flagged off the Igwuruta Internal Roads project.

According to the Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, Nigerians will be surprised at the outcome of the 2023 elections if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ensures the general elections are free and fair.

He said, “My problem is INEC. I don’t know whether they will do what they said they will do because they are making promises now, I don’t know whether they will keep to it. If INEC will keep the promises that Nigerians will get a better election, I will be so happy, everybody will see with their eyes. Abuja does not vote, it is the people here that vote.”

Channels Television had reported on Tuesday that Buhari promised not to allow intimidations of any sort, whether materially, morally or physically during the 2023 elections.

The President spoke when he received some Governors of the All Progressives Congress, led by Kebbi State Governor Atiku Bagudu, at the State House.

Commenting on the statement credited to the President by his spokesman, Femi Adesina, Wike thanked Buhari for promising not to interfere in the next elections.

The governor said, “When Mr President said yesterday (Tuesday) that he will not interfere, he told the governors he will not interfere, he will not intimidate, So, I ask; the other ones you interfered? You interfered by sending security people to come and finish us in Rivers State. Thank you, Mr. President for saying that you won’t interfere which means your party (APC), no way.

“I thank Mr President for coming out and telling his governors he won’t interfere because of course he interfered last time by using the Army, through the former minister of transportation (Amaechi) but the people stood up by saying this will not happen.

“I thank Mr President that he wants to leave a legacy of conducting a free-and-fair election.”

I have begun to trust Wike love for Nigeria, how I wish he is the one that won PDP primary not Atiku
