Source: Eagleee http://eagleee.com/detail?newsId=510049 The Nigerian Union in South Africa on Thursday said that six guest houses owned by its members were burnt during renewed attacks against Nigerians in Rustenburg, North West Province of South Africa. Mr Paul Nwanedo, chairman of the union in the Province, added that the attackers beat a woman and her child. “These attacks began on Sunday. Four Nigerians are in critical condition in the hospital. We received a report that Taxi drivers beat a Nigerian woman and her child. “We can also confirm that six guest houses belonging to our people were burnt by the drivers. “We have not recorded any incident today. We have advised our people to remain indoors and ensure their safety. “As we speak, stakeholders comprising the police, taxi drivers and senior government officials are still in a meeting. “The union was not allowed to be part of the meeting,” Nwanedo said. The chairman said that the union was still taking stock of losses by Nigerians and would communicate to appropriate Federal government representatives in South Africa. The taxi drivers went on the rampage following allegations that Nigerians sold drugs to a gang that attacked their members. They also alleged that a Nigerian abducted and raped a 16-year-old South African girl. Nwanedo said the allegations were false and spurious. “Our investigation so far showed that these allegations are false. No Nigerian has been arrested for alleged abduction or rape. “The allegation of drugs selling to the gang is also untrue,” he said. Source: Eagleee http://eagleee.com/detail?newsId=510049 |

Source: Eagleee http://eagleee.com/detail?newsId=509054 Mdzough U Tiv, Kaduna State Chapter, has observed that there is a grand plan by Fulani herdsmen to exterminate Tiv people from their God given land. Terzungwe Samuel Ali and Shimakyaa Iorkyase, President General and Secretary of Mdzough U Tiv, in a press statement in Kaduna said, “In their quest to resist the anti-open grazing legislation already operational in Benue State and take over the State as threatened on 23rd October 2017 and reported by the Leadership Newspaper of 24th October, 2017, on 1st of January 2018 at about 10:00am, Fulani Herdsmen mindlessly attacked peaceful and harmless Church Goers in Gaambe-Tiev, Ayilamo and Turan in Logo Local Government Area. “On the same day, in Nongov district of Guma Local Government Area, Umenger, Tse-Akor, and Tomatar near Tse-Abi were ruthlessly attacked; killing over 59 people with over two hundred injured and properties worth hundreds of millions smashed. ”We voted massively for the APC led federal government and cannot accept the killing of our wives, Children, brothers and sisters as the dividend. “We, unequivocally stand with Our Governor, His Excellency Dr. Samuel Ortom, the government and people of Benue State over the full implementation of the anti -open grazing law – People who have livestock should ranch as it is applicable in most civilised countries of the world. We are Farmers and cannot allow cows to take over our farms! “We are in total agreement with Distinguished Senator Shehu Sani when he said, ‘Helmsmen must confront Herdsmen. One minute silence and repeated words of condolences and sympathy cannot address the problem or end the bloodshed’. “We cannot continue to watch our harmless brothers and sisters being wiped off maliciously.” Read more here - http://eagleee.com/detail?newsId=509054 |

So much that the Trump administration doesn't know, including the fact that not all Nigerians live in huts. Source: Eagleee http://eagleee.com/detail?newsId=506463 A 34-year-old bricklayer, Akinyemi Edgar, has allegedly killed his graduate wife, Ajoke, in the Mowo, Badagry area of Lagos State for planning to travel abroad. Edgar has been declared wanted by the Lagos State Police Command. The suspect beat the 28-year-old to death during a disagreement at their home and dragged her corpse on the ground to a place near the community well, where he buried her. A neighbour told the newspaper that the victim might have been killed over her plan to travel overseas in January 2018. He said, “The couple have been married for some time now and they have three children together. I cannot explain how they met and married because while the man is a bricklayer, the wife was a graduate. They had been having a series of domestic problems and neighbours were always called in to resolve their fights. In fact, the quarrel got so critical that the woman’s family advised her to separate from him because they were not compatible, but she refused. “Late last year, she announced that she would be travelling abroad in January and the man became annoyed and vowed to end her life. On December 14, 2017, they had their usual disagreement and the man beat her to death. Ostensibly to deceive law enforcement agents from linking the death to him, he dragged her corpse far from their house and buried it beside a well. The corpse was later exhumed and the police were informed.” The suspect had ran away from the house just as the case was transferred from the Morogbo Police Division to the command headquaters, Ikeja. The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Chike Oti, confirmed the incident. He said that the matter had been transferred from the command to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba. He said, “The man killed his wife and absconded. The police recovered the corpse and deposited it in a mortuary for autopsy. “The case has been transferred to the SCIID, while effort is ongoing to arrest the suspect.” Source: Eagleee http://eagleee.com/detail?newsId=506463 |
Source: Eagleee http://eagleee.com/detail?newsId=503305 This Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development, Audu Ogbe said this at a meeting between the Minister of Interior, Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau, five state governors and security chiefs, held in Abuja on Monday 8th January 2018. He said, “The farmer and herdsmen must not have his life threatened by circumstances surrounding his profession. We do not want the farmer to lose his crops nor would we want anyone to. Over the years we have not done much to look seriously into the issue of livestock development in the country. “People ask the question why should government get involved? Why shouldn’t the herdsmen manage their own livestock? I am sad to tell you that in the last 50 years until recently we may have done enough for the rice farmer, the cassava farmer, the maize farmer, the cocoa farmer, but we haven’t done much for herdsmen and that inability and omission on our part is resulting in the crises we are witnessing today. Source: Eagleee http://eagleee.com/detail?newsId=502057 Elder statesman and former governor of Old Kaduna State, Balarabe Musa, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari makes him sad because nothing has worked under his administration. The former governor said this while fielding questions from Sun newspapers on situations and events that made him sad in the country last year. He said, “One of them is the inability of this government to perform. Because everybody expected this government to make a difference but they have not. In some areas they are even making things worse.” Speaking on the New Year speech of Buhari, the former governor insisted, “I am not impressed in any way. How can I be when the ordinary people in a country that produce petrol, cannot buy it at a reasonable price? “As I am talking to you now in most parts of Nigeria, a litre of fuel sells for N200. Our economy, in the name of privatisation has deteriorated so much. Why has the situation become so bad? It is because of the foreign manipulations that want to hand the leading role of the economy to the private sector. “Our economy was stable and progressive when we had the leading role of the state in the economy. Back then one dollar was sold at one naira. Presently, there is nothing to enable the government to control prices, corruption and unemployment. “How can you expect the private sector to solve this problem? Whether we like it or not the role of the public sector must be strengthened. So that everybody must make public interest first and the enlightened self interest second. There is no other way round.” Read more - http://eagleee.com/detail?newsId=502057 |

But, when they were asked, they replied with “oh we don’t know her number”. She indicated that the organisers who pressed further but could not get to her had to choose another person to host the show although they wanted her to do so because of her past glories with CAF ceremonies. “This response allowed the organisers to fly in a South African host to co-host with Didier. Source: Eagleee http://eagleee.com/detail?newsId=501941 The All Progressives Congress (APC), Sunday declared that it was not aware that President Muhammadu Buhari was preparing to seek a second term in office in 2019. National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, said the party has not received any communication from the President about his re-election plans. There were reports that Buhari had declared his interest to seek re-election in 2019 by appointing the Minister of Transport, Mr. Rotimi Ameachi, as the Director General of his Presidential Campaign Council. Reacting to the report, Oyegun, told New Telegraph at the weekend in Abuja, that the ruling party had not received any communication from the president regarding his ambition. Asked to clarify that the president has not notified the party on his re-election ambition, Oyegun said: “Yes, that is true.” The APC national chairman further said that whether by declaration or writing officially to the party, the president must inform the party of his intention to seek re-election. Source: Eagleee http://eagleee.com/detail?newsId=502080 Following President Donald Trump’s anti-immigrant statements and policies, Some Nigerian immigrants are already looking for ways out of the United States. Some of the migrants, from Nigeria, Haiti, and other countries, are reportedly trooping to Canada to seek greener pastures. CBC News, a Canadian media outlet, reported that a group of Nigerians, about 12 of them, were seen trying to cross to Canada, from America. eagleee.com gathered that the Nigerian migrants had already made their way to the start of Plattsbugh's pipeline to Canada. Plattsbugh’s pipeline is a one way-route out of the US at an unofficial border crossing that the Canadian government is having difficulty controlling. One of the Canadian immigration officials told some migrants at the pipeline border: "This is an illegal crossing. The official border crossing is a few kilometres from here. "Are you aware the very minute you cross this border your status in the US is nullified?" the immigration official yelled at the huddle of people, children in their arms, clutching their suitcases. But the immigrants defiantly replied: "We know. We want to come into Canada. Canada will help us. We have nowhere else to go," members of the group yell back. |

It won't be too fast OP. Like you said, it is a two-way street. Both you and the company have decisions to make when it comes to recruitment. Most people searching for a job go into an interview with an inferior mindset, when the reality is, you are on equal footing with the interviewer. If they didn't need your services, they wouldn't have called you for 2 interviews. If, at the end of your 3rd meeting with them, they have not mentioned salary, you can simply ask 'When will we discuss compensation for the role?' or, 'Do you mind if I ask how much you've budgeted for the role?' You might get some push back, since they have waited this long to mention salary, but you just need to be confident and calmly let them know that salary information is vital for you in making your decision to continue gunning for the role. Obviously, the salary shouldn't be the only reason you accept a job offer, so I assume you have taken time at the end of your previous interviews to ask about the company's vision, mission, culture, values, etc., and how your role will support these. This way the interviewer will not think of your salary question as coming too fast. All the best in your job search. |

Living in Jos comes with many privileges. When you’re living at an altitude of over 4,000 feet, you get to enjoy cool weather and a generally beautiful climate. You also get some of the finest fruits that’d probably never grow in low altitude places like Lagos of just below 135 feet. There are strawberry farms, tea farms, and as we now know, lots of coffee. David Dung Dayi, a farmer and food processor, is pouring a lot of his passion and energy into making sure coffee from Plateau becomes mainstream. https://img.eagleee.com/v2-EagleNews/Eagle-NewsImage/DetailImage/RealNews/20180103/723b9e2b34350c5aad5d641b47eb8d36.jpg https://img.eagleee.com/v2-EagleNews/Eagle-NewsImage/DetailImage/RealNews/20180103/8f165d0120930df34647d7c5a980db4c.jpg “My father was my original tastemaster,” David explained. “I’d roast the coffee, and give my dad to taste, then he’d tell me whether or not the taste was good.” That was a long time ago. Between then and now, David has moved from place to place, within Nigeria and even beyond. But one thing hasn’t changed; his unending love for coffee. “I’m Birom and Kim means Eagle in my language,” David said, “I chose to brand our product with local names.” He’s learned about planting and processing methods from everywhere he can. Kim’s Coffee as a brand is only just about a year old, but it holds so much promise. “When I came back from Brazil, I started adding value to the product, roasting and testing,” David said. “I think you should try out the coffee,” he said as he poured some coffee into a coffee maker. The first thing you notice about the coffee is that the smell fills every room it’s in. A fresh, coffee smell. “We roast only Arabica for now,” David said. There are two types of coffee commonly grown for drinking; Arabica and Robusta. Robusta, which you’re most likely to find in your local shop in Nigeria, has a strong, harsh taste, with high caffeine content. Arabica on the other hand, is sweeter and softer, with a winey taste and pleasant aroma. Add the fact that it has less caffeine than Robusta. “Arabica is better suited for this climate,” David said. The past, for Kim’s Coffee has been mostly about testing the product, and gathering as much feedback as possible to make the product better. Demand and Supply, 101. Robusta coffee might be harsher and more bitter, but yield is quite high, compared to Arabica, which tends to have lower yield. But a lot of the low yield problems in Jos are because of some below par farming methods, where in some cases, farmers don’t get enough value. For David, it’s not just about adding value to the beans, it’s about adding value to the entire process. “A lot of the time,” David explained, “I’m with the other farmers too, educating them on ways to increase yield. A lot of the problems we currently face are because of preservation techniques and raising good seedlings.” The State government is showing some interest.” David said. While David is obsessed about nature and finesse, a lot of his priorities appear to be brown, coffee brown. And so he can focus on making the product even better, he gets a lot of help from his wife, Salamah, who handles the numbers. A lot of the support also comes from his brother, and 3 workers. https://img.eagleee.com/v2-EagleNews/Eagle-NewsImage/DetailImage/RealNews/20180103/199a1708f5150a7d4c99d5a3749439ce.jpg https://img.eagleee.com/v2-EagleNews/Eagle-NewsImage/DetailImage/RealNews/20180103/83c2f424aa52b718a79a7fe765487b69.jpg In the end, content is king But packaging is the king’s trusted messenger. And David knows this. Kim’s coffee is packed in 500mg and 250mg small cotton sacks on the outside. It comes in two flavours; Dark and Full City (medium) roast. On the inside is a plastic wrap to help keep out moisture and retain freshness. “We chose this type of packaging first, because it is eco-friendly, and then re-usable,” David explained. “So when you run out of coffee, and you have to stare at the sack, it’s a reminder that you need a refill.” David’s obsession with recycling and eco-friendliness permeates his entire life. He stores the coffee husk because beauty enthusiasts can use it “as a facial scrub”. “We don’t use any artificial fertilizers in cultivation,” David said, “only animal dung.” Jos has a long and interesting history for many Nigerians. Many think of Jos and artistic talent like M.I and P-Square come to mind. Others think of Jos and memories of ethno-religious conflict come to mind. But soon, when you raise a cup of coffee to sip, you’ll smell the richness and freshness of Arabica coffee, probably Kim's, and think of Jos. |

People either love it and use it in everything from fish tacos to chicken salad, or they can’t stand the taste of it. For some, cilantro tastes like soap, dirt, crushed bugs or metal shavings. It’s gained such a negative reaction that someone used their time, energy and money to create an online community called I Hate Cilantro, which has more than 5,000 members. Before you join the club and publicly announce your aversion to cilantro, you may want to learn why you don’t like it. According to The New York Times, the Oxford Companion to Food notes that the word “coriander” is said to derive from the Greek word for bedbug. (Gross, right?) It adds that the cilantro aroma “has been compared with the smell of bug-infested bedclothes” and that “Europeans often have difficulty in overcoming their initial aversion to this smell.” Read more here - http://eagleee.com/detail?newsId=151570 |
Source: Eagleee News http://eagleee.com/detail?newsId=492584 The body of a 23-year-old graduate from Kabarak University who lost his life on December 29, while taking selfies with his friends in Molo river, Nakuru county was retrieved three days after the incident. Elvis Korir drowned in the river while taking a picture during a photo session with his friends. According to one of his friends, it is while at the river that Elvis ordered his friends to move to the highest point of the river where they could take pictures capturing the river as the background, at this point Elvis requested one of his female friends to take him a picture, before the lady could even take an action, Elvis slipped and fell into the river. Despite the tragic death, there are a few lessons to learn from this incident: 1.Always beware of your surroundings when taking a selfie. There are several dangerous scenarios that can claim one’s life if one is not aware of their surroundings. 2. Is the picture necessary? We often think that if an occasion is not immortalized with an image from the event, then it never really happened. However, it is important to remain cautious and consider whether the image is truly worth having. Those who scale the tallest buildings in search of the most amazing aerial shots are well aware of the dangers involved. Always be careful and make comprehensive considerations when taking your pictures for the “gram”. |
