Source: Eagleee http://eagleee.com/detail?newsId=471267 The Aare Ona Kakanfo-designate of Yorubaland, Chief Gani Adams, has declared that restructuring is the only solution that can stall the disintegration of Nigeria. According to him, Nigeria, as it is presently constituted, is not sustainable. A statement by his Chief of Staff, Segun Akanni, said Adams stated this during the inauguration of the United Arab Emirates chapter of the Oodua Progressive Union (OPU) in Dubai. He said, “It is our belief in the OPU that the time is now for the country to take the option of restructuring. We also warn that any restructuring that is not tailored along regional line, reflecting the six geo-political structure of the country, would be a mere waste of time and resources. “Nobody is calling for the disintegration of Nigeria but a lot of things are wrong with our democracy back home and to address these anomalies, we must restructure the country along regional lines.” Adams added, “Regionalism is most suitable for the country at this time as each region will be governed by laws that best suit it and, I think, the experience and success recorded in the defunct Western Region best register the need for a return to regionalism. “Already, groups, such as the Indigenous People of Biafra and the Niger Delta Avengers, have, more or less, shattered whatever illusions we may retain, regarding the Nigeria we are living in. While Nigeria will obviously be better off remaining a nation, it is also true that a surgical operation is required to take out the cancer of disintegration currently ravaging the country on every side. “Nigeria is supposed to be a Federal Republic but it operates a unitary constitution where the states, like children, simply go to Abuja at the end of every month to collect food. They cannot even feed themselves. “Is it not utter shame that the descendants of Oyo Empire, Kanem-Borno Empire, Benin Empire and others have to go, cap in hand, to Abuja, collecting allocations that cannot even pay workers’ salaries when the traditional system, which guaranteed full employment and a decent standard of living, can be recreated through proper federalism like we had in the First Republic?” |
Source: http://eagleee.com/detail?newsId=467977 2017 is almost over. A new year is nearly upon us. It's a time for resolutions and reflection. So it's not a bad time to think about improvements and tweaks we can make to our own careers. Here's some of the best advice we heard this year: Be intentional with your time Facebook product design VP Julie Zhuo spends much of the day in meetings. But before she plunges into these conversations with her teams and direct reports, she likes to make a game plan. "I try to be very intentional about my time," she previously told Business Insider . "It's easy to get into the habit of reacting to what's happening during the day." Stay humble and work hard It's one thing to pay lip service to humility and work ethic. But it's another to truly demonstrate they're in line with your values during a job interview. Daniel Schwartz, the CEO of Restaurant Brands International — the parent company of Burger King, Tim Hortons, and Popeyes — said he always vets job candidates with a certain tricky question to get a better sense of their values. "One question I ask is, 'Are you smart or do you work hard?'" he told Adam Bryant of The New York Times . And, Business Insider reported , there's definitely a right answer. "You want hard workers," he said. "You'd be surprised how many people tell me, 'I don't need to work hard, I'm smart.' Really? Humility is important." Lead with hard work and humility when presenting yourself in your professional life. Success is about people — not plans Plans can only get you so far. If you want to really kick your career into high gear, you're going to need help from other people. That's something LinkedIn co-founder and investor Reid Hoffman learned firsthand. In an interview with Business Insider's podcast " Success! How I Did It ," he advised everyone to build "as strong a network as possible, because that's the thing that most catapults you, in terms of your capabilities, in terms of your abilities to do things." Source: www.eagleee.com A man was injured in a horrible accident, but the only permanent damage he suffered was the amputation of both of his ears. After the accident, he was always very self-conscious about having no ears. Fortunately, he received a large sum of money from the insurance company as compensation for the damage. He decided to use the money he received to start a business and purchased a small, but expanding computer firm. Since he had no business knowledge, he had to hire someone to run the business. He picked out three top candidates, and interviewed each of them. The first interview went really well. His last question for this first candidate was, 'Do you notice anything unusual about me?' The guy said, 'Now that you mention it, you have no ears.' The man got really angry and threw the guy out. The second interview went even better than the first. This candidate was much better than the first. Again, to conclude the interview, the man asked the same question, 'Do you notice anything unusual about me?' This guy answered, 'Yes, you have no ears.' The man was really angry, and threw this second candidate out. Then he had the third interview. The third candidate was even better than the second, the best out of all of them. Almost certain that he wanted to hire this guy, the man once again asked, 'Do you notice anything unusual about me?' The guy replied 'Yeah, you're wearing contact lenses.' Surprised, the man replied, 'Wow! That's quite perceptive of you! How could you tell?' The guy burst out laughing and said, 'Well, You can't wear glasses if you don't have ears!' |

We don’t need Yomi SARS to remind us of how hard it is working or living in Nigeria. Nigeria is not a haven and We, Nigerians, have grown to become aware of the kind of society it is. The society stench. At least we know that APC and PDP are made from the same stock. We know that corruption rules the day and that you have to pay the police to be their friend. The country is full of filth really. https://img.eagleee.com/v2-EagleNews/Eagle-NewsImage/DetailImage/RealNews/20171219/52fd58ead66d1ac23ebd9ecd312b33e0.jpg We smell the stench everyday and the mess is littered everywhere across the different sectors of the Nigerian society. It is hard for anyone not to notice the ills around, even a kid now knows that it isn't pieces of paper that taxi drivers need to pass police check points. We know that the working condition in Nigeria isn't the best. We don’t need Yomi SARS to remind us of how hard it is working in Nigeria and even worse, we should not let him justify the illicit acts of SARS officers by saying “SARS job na hustle. There is no guarantee. If you #ENDSARS now, who go carry the gun?.” Such statement is a product of a wild mentality and it is the reason an average SARS officer believes he is a not-to-be-questioned hero for wearing the uniform, causing him to point a gun at anyone who resists unlawful search or to frame up an innocent person for refusing to pay bribe. To an average SARS officer his salary is meagre and with a gun in his hand, he would aggressively hunt for new ways to make more money even if it means oppressing and brutalising innocent citizens. These innocent citizens who are often SARS victims are not treated any less by the harsh condition of the nation. Some of them are among the millions of youths without jobs or among the horde of civil servants whose salaries are held back or even pensioners who are enduring a taunting process to receive their entitlement. So there is no justification for SARS excesses. If the narratives about SARS brutality and oppression were only few, one could have written them off as a case of an officer having a bad day but tens of thousands of Nigerians shared their experiences in the hands of SARS officers on social media alone. I bet there are even more that didn't make it to the Internet. This shows that it is not a slip but a culture of SARS officers. A culture which must be stopped, perhaps not by scrapping the SARS unit but by reforming the unit, especially through instilling uprightness in the officers by enforcing strict disciplinary measures against the erring ones. If I were a SARS officer and a colleague of mine goes down for oppressing an innocent lady and another colleague of mine is punished for brutalising an innocent person, I would clean up my act and change my approach towards my job for good. Experts have commended the Nigerian army for its effort against terrorism - Eagleee http://eagleee.com/detail?newsId=465139 During a two-day seminar organised by the Save Humanity Advocacy Centre (SHAC), experts have scored the Nigerian army high in its efforts to stop violent groups from destroying Nigeria. The seminar, with the theme "Global War Against Terrorism: For Nigeria, A Choice Between Law and Life", tackled humanitarian and human rights issues in Nigeria's war against Boko Haram. The group in its assessment of the Nigerian army said the military might have achieved more if it were not distracted in the discharge of its responsibility. They faulted a growing trend of international non-governmental organizations being used to diminish Nigeria's ability to effectively use its military to fight terrorism. Source: Eagleee contributor The usual blame game is flying around. While some blame a purported plan by the government to hike price as the cause, others blame the NNPC for undersupplying to the depots. The failure of the country to fashion out a workable and sustainable framework for fuel manufacturing rather than importation is at the root of fuel scarcity. It is a systemic failure of unimaginable proportion. For me, the blame game is meaningless. The reason why an end to the fuel scarcity is not in sight is that Nigeria is not producing petrol that can service domestic need. Virtually everything is imported. The only three refineries in the country are obsolete and out dated. The only solution to the fuel scarcity syndrome is to build modern refineries to produce fuel locally and stop importation. Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Monday declared that a million of ex-governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu cannot save the ruling APC from the imminent defeat it will suffer in the 2019 general elections. The PDP in Oyo State actually pity Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the unenviable job of selling a rejected Oyo State APC to the electorates whereas the party hierarchy including the National Chairman of APC know that Oyo State APC is moribund and yesterday’s official declaration was just a charade to celebrate the birthday of Senator Ajimobi in an elaborate and wasteful manner without taking into consideration the non-payment of between 9 to 16 months' salaries of Oyo State tertiary institutions.
