Ajaokuta Steel located in Kogi was a complete disaster. A full train wreck. Oil producing is different from gas producing. Most of Nigeria's gas is located deep in the south and offshore. Why waste money piping or trucking raw gas to Kogi when the gas can be refined close to its source and finished product trucked or piped up north?
Ajaokuta steel failed because of its location or international politics of that time? It has continued to fail because Nigerian politicians have discovered it's way to siphon public funds, so they left it in that state to use it to steal instead of making it to work.

Ajaokuta was 90% complete before the issue started. We heard it was the rail line to the steel plant that was needed, since the number of trucks it'd require to get its daily feedstock from Itakpe to the plant would be in thousands, a rail line was required and I think Buhari built one.

If it's about location, the aluminum company in Ikot Abasi is moribund and that's not in the north.

NNPCL is complaining that 4800 illegal pipes connected to the pipeline and, they found in 100km length of pipeline there 300 illegal pipes connected. Looking at the situation, you still think it's better to use push gas from the south?

You have to consider which one gives you the maximum benefit.

If you are closer to raw materials and it’s costly on your route to market, you have to consider nearness to market.

You are open to all consideration. You can’t win on all. You have to forgo one for the other.
DANGOTE felt he could still get the raw materials cheaply while he situates the refinery in Lagos. That’s why he went for closer to market.

So Rule is not a static rule. You have to juggle things together and know which one is of lesser evil.

DANGOTE cannot risk the unrest going on in south south and then site his refinery there. You know he borrowed the money.

Those refineries in south south were constructed when there were nothing like unrest.

If you are situating your factory, you have to run away from a volatile region. It’s good to setup where it is safe l, even though you are not closer to raw materials.
Dangote initially wanted to site the refinery in the Niger Delta, but in their usual fashion of using their excessive demands to drive businesses away from their lands, they made an unreasonable demands and he jettisoned the idea. He wanted to go to Ondo, but Ambode hijacked him and gave him free land in Lagos.

Quite similar to the Hypocritical noises all over the place on ISRAEL defending itself from terrorists Hamas..

Assad bashar of Syria killed over half a million muslim and kids , not even ant came out for protest.

Same happened in Yemen, there was no noise anywhere.

Hamas terrorists use children as it protection , no noise anywhere.

ISRAEL DEFENDS itself against terrorists, you see Hypocritical noise makers and children of Hate Everywhere. Nonsense!!!
If your head is working, you'd know why the outrage towards Israel is louder - they imprisoned the Palestinians for decades.

What happened in Syria and happening in Yemen has the Western influence in it.

Why are you outraged by what is happening in Ukraine and not the same feeling when Israel is bombing children? Religious Hypocrite!

When your sense of rage and outrage is activated or suppressed by the primordial identity of the person in power, you have no conscience.

No statement is truer than this.

Righteousness2, shame on you. The statement above is directed to people like you - religious hypocrite.

I've always told my ilk that what Buhari did and you kept quiet, don't react when Tinubu is doing it. Whatever difficulty Tinubu is facing today, he inherited it from the previous administration.

Buhari did well by not just accepting to pay the money like we usually do.

That useless woman from the ministry of justice who amongst others staged this to reap Nigeria won't rest in peace.

Dangote is a businessman and he is in business to make profits just like the other people who are major shareholders of the said refinery.
The idea by Nigerians that the refinery will solve our problems and reduce pump price of fuel is not totally true because the refinery is a private business, he is also going to be getting crude at international price and will also import from suppliers abroad to keep the refinery running as they need at least 6 million barrels of crude weekly to run at full capacity of 650,000pd.
We should lower our expectations for now and watch how far the refinery will go in reducing the price of fuel once full operations commence then we can begin to raise our hope and expectations.
At least, landing cost won't be a problem again. War in Ukraine won't have to define our own supply or prices here. We won't spend our forex importing anymore.
Politics / Re: Second Crude Supply To Arrive In Three Weeks — Dangote Refinery by Caseless: 11:17am On Dec 09, 2023
MeineMutter:

You are correct. To even move crude from south to north would be too costly. NigerDelta is, somewhat, closer to Lagos waters than the North.

In economics, one of the factors you consider before setting up your industry or business is nearness to customer.

Dangote has to consider nearness to market too. Lagos has the volume of vehicles on the road than any other state. More than 90% of airlines are have their hubs in Lagos as well with their tank farms. Over half of Nigerian industries are in Lagos and Ogun.

The best place he could situate it is Ogun/Lagos.
Wrong!!!

You consider closeness to raw material in the case of sighting an industry.

Every Nigerian want to get into position to steal.

Is there any other place humans are innately corrupt like Nigeria?

Where did we get our sense of individualism from instead of collectivism or collective good?

You want to steal from the till, erect building, send your kids to a good school and then drive a good car, so you can lord it over your community or those close to you?

You wonder why we kill humans thinking there's a ritual from that that can bring money.

We can destroy anything to make personal gains. It's that bad.

Like Boris Johnson wrote many years ago about us, our love for money is unmatched anywhere in the world.
