Politics › Re: Mimiko Declares 3 Days Fasting And Prayers For Officials Killed On Plane Crash by cashkidisback(m): 10:04am On Oct 05, 2013 |
donphilopus: Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko has declared a 3-day of fasting and Prayer in the state following the death of officials of the state in the Thursday morning ill-fated plane crash which had the body of the former Governor of the state, Dr Olusegun Agagu and 20 others on board.
In a state broadcast yesterday evening, Dr Mimiko said the Associated Airline plane crash that happened on Thursday morning in Lagos has further thrown the state into sadness and mourning adding that certainly”this is trying time in the history of our beloved state”.
Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko He narrated that “a few weeks ago, when the news filtered in that our former governor, Dr. Olusegun Agagu had passed on, we were shocked and completely devastated “in grief, we declared seven days of mourning and praying. We also set up a burial planning committee to work in conjunction with the family, with a view to giving our departed former Governor a befitting state burial.
The committee which comprised top officials of our government and key family members left no stone unturned in giving the deceased a worthy burial.
In line with the burial plans, we waited anxiously to receive the corpse in Akure, when we heard the sad news that the aircraft bearing his corpse with other top government officials, some eminent Nigerians and close family members had crash-landed in Lagos shortly after takeoff.
It was shocking and very unsettling” Dr Mimiko said “ It is particularly saddening that not only did this turn of events alter our original plan for the burial, it also caused us additional losses with the death of four top officials of the State and some other Nigerians who were on board the aircraft.
Stressing that the government commiserate with the bereaved families over the untimely death of their loved ones the Governor assured that the bereaved families are not alone in this moment of grief and gloom.
Consequently, he said, ”we have declared 3 Days of fasting and prayers in the state, commencing , Saturday 5th of October, 2013.”
He thus asked all the people of the state, to use the opportunity to pray and reflect on the sad realities of the death of the departed and also find time to ask God for mercy and favour for the State.
In an emotional laden voice, Dr Mimiko voiced that “we surely, never bargained for this. Yet, all power and knowledge belongs to God as human wisdom and knowledge is foolishness before God”
He thus prayed that “ the souls of our fallen brothers and sisters rest in perfect peace even as we pray for God’s protection and guidance of our people in the State and in the Diaspora”

citizenisb: We are here to film Mobutu’s jungle Versailles. We pass an airport with a runway built for Concorde, which Mobutu would hire for his shopping trips. The marble-clad terminal building is derelict; where the French President François Mitterrand once sipped champagne, families live in lean-tos. We eventually reach the palace to which Mobutu retreated as the Congo collapsed and undiagnosed cancer tore at his insides.
We are there to see the mighty river; the Congo, the second largest by volume of water in the world.I have never seen rapids like those on the Congo. The Inga dams alone, if properly developed, could meet the whole of Africa’s energy needs. Two wiry young men guide us to the Ulala rapids and 90 minutes later we are at a mighty cataract, churning water piled high in waves the size of apartment blocks. With only 15 minutes before sunset we film and then slog back uphill through the sudden African darkness.

Photo: Simon AtebaDoctors at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, are battling to save the life of Feyi Agagu, the son of the late governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Agagu, who was involved in a plane crash on Thursday morning as he and others were taking his father’s corpse for burial.
P.M.NEWS undercover reporter observed as Feyi was earlier today being moved from the surgical emergency ward in LASUTH to the more comfortable Bola Ahmed Tinubu ward where he would have a better chance of survival.

Feyi Agagu being moved from Emergency ward to another ward in LASUTH, this morning. Photo: Simon Ateba Doctors who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity all confirmed that Agagu’s son would receive better medical attention at the new ward which boasts of more medical personnel and state-of-the-art equipment.
“There are more staff there, more modern equipment and they will be able to monitor him every minute. He has a better chance of survival there,” a doctor said pleading not to be quoted because she is not authorised to speak with reporters.
Our undercover reporter observed that Feyi was not unconscious and could recognise family members and friends who were in the hospital today.
But he was weak, did not speak and seemed to be under pains. He tried painfully to make a sign to his relatives but his hand came down almost immediately.
Feyi was among the lucky seven survivors who are receiving treatment in three hospitals in Lagos.
Five of those who are receiving treatment are in LASUTH while one is at the Airforce medical centre and the other is in Gbagada General Hospital, said Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, who visited the survivors on Friday morning.
Idris said he was satisfied with the level of attention the patients were receiving.
He said one of the survivors had a surgery on Thursday night and three were doing well and one is in critical condition.
He did not say whether it was Agagu’s son or another survivor he was referring to.
Our correspondent observed that family members, friends and sympathisers stormed the hospital but were not allowed to see the survivors.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, said at a press conference in Lagos, southwestern Nigeria, that the crashed plane had a subsisting Air Operators Certificate, AOC, and had a current Certificate of Airworthiness, known as (C of A) which was supposed to expire on 22 October, 2013.
Adamu Ahmed Abdullahi, the Director of Consumer of Protection at NCAA, who represented the Director General of the agency, Fola Akinkuotu, said Associated Aviation Limited last operated their aircraft on 30 August before it crashed yesterday, killing 13 people.
He said the airline only conducts chartered operations.
Abdullahi said the Brazilian made Embraer 120 aircraft marked 5N-BJY could carry up to 30 passengers and was registered in Nigeria on 22 May 2007.
He declined to take questions from journalists, claiming that NCAA is also under investigation by the Accident Investigation Bureau, AIB.
At the time of this report, AIB was yet to speak with journalists about the investigation it is conducting.

Feyi, the son of late former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Agagu, has said that he is alright and no one should worry about his state.
Feyi spoke when his friends, led by Jide Obanikoro, the son of a former Nigeria’s ambassador to Ghana, Musiliu Obanikoro, visited him at the Surgical Emergency ward of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja where he and other victims of the Associated Airline plane crash were rushed to on Thursday.
The victim, who spoke normally, said he became unconscious after feeling the impact of the aeroplane hitting the ground but woke up later.
He had a neck support and some bandages but he giggled when he saw his friends wearing worried faces.
While being wheeled to the Intensive Care Unit for a body scan, the victim threw his right thumb up to his friends, saying ‘nothing do me’.
A second victim, Femi Akinsanya, was seen on another bed talking with about seven of his relatives, including Hip Hop Musician, Sasha Alabi.
Akinsanya, who had a neck support around his neck, described his survival as a miracle.
Doctors were seen advising his pregnant wife not to move him to another hospital yet until he is stabilised.
Our correspondent was however prevented from taking pictures inside the hospital.
It was not all smiles at the hospital as a plump woman, said to be the wife of one of the dead victims, Chijioke Duru, was seen weeping profusely, rolling on the ground at the hospital.
She wailed, “Chjioke, I am finished, who will take care of our daughter, Chinasa. Why did you leave me? I am finished.”
The woman subsequently started blabbing and demanded that her husband’s corpse be handed over to her immediately. She was however taken away by another relative.
Meanwhile, sources close to Gbenga Obasanjo told our correspondent that he was in the United States and denied rumours that he was on the aeroplane.
The source said, “Gbenga was meant to be on that plane because he was to represent his father, Olusegun Obasanjo, at the event but stayed back in Atlanta, Georgia to attend to some things.”
