Jeje247: Not just transportation. Multiple taxations including rogue officers, area boys and prolonged road stay due to very bad roads all add to the transportation cost. Even when the goods get to the markets down south, another round of multiple taxations and random settlements come to play, added to exhorbitant store rent Can't this extortion by rogue people you highlighted be tamed ? |

TRUTHaDDICTED: Maybe that's the meaning of the word in your language, but once that word is mentioned here, what comes to mind immediately is an evil and wicked killer terrorists. But the last time I checked, the word "Aboki" is a word that orginated from the Hausa language. So any literal definition attached to that other than what the owners of the Language defined it meaning to be may just be a derogatory term just to have superiority complex. But regardless, but the exposed, in exposed, educated, illiterate and the superior and inferior will all die |

Konquest: Indeed. Thank you. I must commend your courage in bluntly exposing these inefficiencies and greed in the food distribution chain on interstate routes leading to the South of Nigeria.
I read a post here on NL a few months ago that Niger State launched some CNG buses, and Lagos State is gearing up to launch CNG and electric buses too but I wonder why there is NO emphasis on the kitting of the food trucks and trailers with CNG kits so that these big vehicles can become hybrids with the ability to use both CNG (methane) and PMS (gasoline)? The emphasis has been on CNG conversation for buses and cars which are NOT enough to drive down hyperinflation. The cost of food and other items in especially the urban centers in the South of Nigeria have to drop massively so that the folks their can gain relief from high cost of drugs, food, transportation to and from work, etc.
This is indeed an opportunity for these guys in government to rapidly move in and make things better for Nigeria so that the Middle East military tensions between Israel and others will NOT further destabilize Nigeria with more spikes in crude oil prices and pump prices of PMS where people would likely pay as high as N2000 or more per liter. PMS from Dangote Petrochemical Refinery and other refineries can then be exported to earn foreign exchange to shore up the value of the Nigerian local currency. wow....I really marveled at your wide and well informed postulations.... it's further rejuvenate my assertions that we still have intelligent people in this forum! It's a pleasure talking with you sir. Yes, the governor recently had batches of big buses into the the state just like you rightly said. I think lack of foresight for our leaders is also a factor, the world is going away gradually from carbon monoxide and it's impact in the global warming as we've been constantly seeing in the news outlets. Going the way of CNG conversation of our major food transportation logistics (trucks) will indeed have a significant impact on improving the cost of food stuff as majority of the excuse for cost of things is commonly the cost of diesel and petrol. This inovative tendencies will aid curb this loopholes. |

adolfHitler1934: I agree with you 1000%. Over here in the South, greed is the order of the society. We always feel that we are smart whereas we are idiots, foolish, wicked and selfish. Transportation from Enugu to Abuja is 38 to 55k depending on the company or bus for a journey of just 250 kilometres or thereabout, while Maiduguri to Abuja cost just 17k for a journey of over 600 kilometres.
Ndi` Uchu` Jesus!!!! This is too bad!!!! Infact sir, to better buttress the point! If they're charging this exorbitant prices when the nation is at peace with each region, I wonder what'll happen if eventually there is a breakout of war, they'll rather make money off the running southerners in the north than to save life first as we saw during a certain year here in the north where there seems to be a brewing ethnical uproar of the north against the Igbos in 2019, the transportation companies saw that as an avenue to milk the fleeing citizens, I weeped and wailed so bitter. Thank God the governor of the state as of then was wise enough to end that choas before it escalated |

Konquest: If those food delivery trucks and trailers in the uploaded image and elsewhere have dual CNG-gasoline hybrid fuel installed in them, that would instantly drive the cost of haulage and food sold in the markets down. Nigerian is more if a gas-producing country than a crude oil country because of the massive gas reserves which have more value in USD than the fast-depleting crude oil reserves.
With the war between the Israeli on one hand and Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran on the other hand, if things escalate further and Israel massively bombs Iran as planned, the international price per barrel of crude oil will rise thereby causing a rise in the pump price for many countries and also making absolute nonsense of the cost of feeding and transportation that folks in Nigeria are currently complaining about. A rapid and massive deployment of CNG (methane) fuel [which is cheap far cheaper than PMS at N200 to N230 per standard cubic feet of CNG from NNPC and NIPCO CNG refill stations] and CNG conversion kits or outrightly purchase already factory-priduced large CNG trucks and buses by the states such as Niger, Kano, Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Delta, Edo, Imo, Rivers, etc, and the central government is what would prevent the spread of more hyperinflation thereby making nonsense of the so-called minimum wage that is being implemented by some states. what a yet another classic rendition! I salute your submissions sir! It's an intelligent proposals.... I've always nurtured this same thought. The war going on in the Middle east is an opportunity for Nigeria as a serious nation to make a fortune for itself |
