Yes you are right caustical, cos your slavish tribe is On Your Own, OYO. We igbos helped you run your first generation universities namely U.I and UNILAG, by profs kenneth dike and eni njoku respectively....ingrates like you.

That should show U f00l how accommodating we yorubas are. but what do U people used to pay us back? hatred and envy

Igbos are ably represented in the field of literature, as far back as the 16th century, take a look at olaudah equiano, first african writer of the industrial/modern age and dogged abolitionist....proudly igbo! Caustical, go and lick caustic soda!

I told U that that man was not an Igbo man, because a nicomp.oop like U wrote something in wikipedia doesn't mean is true but if U are hell bent on making that man one of U, can U tell me the meaning of Olaudah equiano in your language?

For your information I just need to let U know about Samuel Ajayi Crowther, the first African Anglican bishop in Nigeria and the first person that translated an english bible into a native west african language. He translated English bible into yoruba language and made the primer for your Igbo language. U ungrateful fellows

Caustical, you are indeed a coward and a loser. Mention that of your kinsmen....if not soyinka, and perhaps, osundare, who else do you have? Olodo.... If you want to come into the realm of science, am ready for you. You can't even compare awo to zik of africa, one in whom the ideology of zikism is noted among foreign observers.... Caustical, find your level...

I will mention hundreds of yoruba that have achieved great things..........talking about Zik and awo, U must be dreaming saying that that figurehead zik was better than the great Awo........take me anywhere bro....Yorubas are ahead of yur forsaken tribe......I know U are grieved with the fact that the award U think yur Achebe first won was actually won by another yoruba man. don't blame us we are pacestters....ever wonder why oyo state slogan is the pacesetter?

It's in the blood, their fathers were cowards so it's not unusual for this generation to be cowards. But when it comes to fraud and fast money count them in because the always first with that.

If we achieving things more than yur entire kinsmen is what U call being coward then we better remain cowards.

But wait a minute, I was told your forefather was a gorilla, that cannot be far from truth considering the level of reasoning U sons of gorilla display on this forum

@caustical, literary award winners trace their mentor to achebe, who traces his/her mentor to soyinka(no offense)? When you mention people like mandela of africa, you mention achebe of africa, these men fought white supremacy in a gallant way.

My literary award, since that was the only reasonable award your great achebe won........guess who first won Margaret Wong Prize in Nigeria Daniel Fagunwa in 1955 before anybody got to know about your achebe.

That your sister is trying and for the commonwealth award she won lemme give our sons and daughters that have won them

Karen King-Aribisala

@dayokanu and co, pulitzer, orange, german book trade, booker, nobel, fischer, etc are numerous awards that has categories in literature. Check this awards and see if it's only yoruba names that are mentioned there. You are an ethnic worm eating up nairaland. Achebe's legacy transcends awards, even award winners e.g mandela, gordimer, soyinka, adichie, ngugi, etc pay homage to achebe. You know why? Because he gave africa a strong literary voice when there was none. Go and hug a suicide bomber.
U are told that Dele Olejede was the first nigerian to win pulitzer but i know hatred won't allow U to see that......tell me one Igbo that has won any of the award

Mr. Globe:

And so how is Achebe more popular and relevant internationally than all ndi ofe combined? Is awo known outside the borders of yorubaland?

To answer yur id.iot.ic questions, answer these

Was micheal okpara known outside is village? was C.C Onoh known outside is village in Enugu Ngwo? was Ojukwu known for anything meaningful throughout his entire life?
Politics / Re: Sam Omatseye, Under-Fire For Column On Achebe by caustical: 11:44pm On Apr 08, 2013
Mr. Globe:

Someone needs to slap ndi ofe back to 1916 where they rightfully belong for the good of the world. If the Nobel prize was that relevant, the international media would have debated why Achebe did not win it when he died as that is the order. But not one mention. Only ndi ofe obsessed themselves with it.

What has your god forsaken tribe achieved? please tell me one. U people continue to disgrace nigerian name everywhere

Oya, Hitler and Al Gore are the epitome of peace since they won the Nobel peace prize.

Where did this Igbo gal see that Hitler won Nobel laureate peace prize from. if U don't know what to say shut up and stop disgracing your tribe. We already know people from your tribe are f00ls.

By the way Al gore did outstanding work in creating worldwide awareness on climate change and global warming. imbe

When did the simplicity in literature come to mean lack of depth?

When did the overusage of the thesaurus become literary mastery?

Okay....since we are on about literary criticism, chew on this:

Nadine Gordimer, nobel prize winner, on Soyinka's writing style - "overly self-conscious"

Ben Okri on Soyinka writing style - "deprives us of a great deal of wisdom with the furies of complexities"

Femi Osofisan on Soyinka - "frenzied scenes of logorrhoea"

Guardian (UK) summary of criticism -"grandiloquence and obscurantism"

In other words, all style and little substance. cheesy

I did like his plays, but his prose works are too showy and "grammar" like - as if he is trying to impress you with big words and complex use of tenses/sentences.

His work is not meant for people with low intelligence quotient
