Politics › Re: Picture Of A Market Stall In Onitsha In 1937 by ceejayluv(m): 10:38pm On Oct 15, 2024 |
Hausa: I have to agree with you on this one. As onye Anambra through-n-through, I doubt that picture is anywhere from the 30s. The books of the time never even mentioned a torchlight or an Umbrella. One way or another Chinua Achebe would've mentioned it in his many books. Again, the many Umbrellas there and the hook of the Umbrella does not suggest the 30s. Although the man seems to be with no shoes like Goodluck Jonathan at the time, the little boy's well cut hair also does not suggest the 30s. One wonders why he has no shoes but sells many umbrellas and other interesting items.
Another thing is if they were imported, who was importing them? Igbo history has no one from the 30s doing an importation like this. Most of the popular names of the 30s for Igbos were those who went to acquire education abroad. And it was around the late 30s to early 40s that they returned back to Nigeria. Zik, Sir Louis Mbanefo, and some few.
Give or take, that picture will be the 60s. Next, you'll say there were no cars in the 1930's . Nigerians have been trading with the Portuguese even before the trans Atlantic slave trade kicked full gear..... Let's be historically conscious please. |

Westerhoffe: Just like I was discussing with someone weeks ago, that I know how to generate energy that can run 24/7 without the use of fuel or any combustion… and he replied me with, you wan start fire be that.
And this invention, if started, will drop the demand for petrol and diesel to ground zero. Why, because globally, the reliance on fuel has high demand and a lot have enriched themselves with it. So once you try to shift the focus, you might be pulling the tails of vipers. Then why dem never kpai Elon musk and dozens of electric car company owners in China And Europe? Western governments are even in the forefront of minimizing fossil fuel use, They're spending billions on R& and implementation. This guy's just deluded. |
