richiemcgold:
What's big in this one?
It is not even a mamba snake.
Mamba colour is like a combination of yellow-brown-green

The one you killed up there is just a non- venomous green snake.
They feel any Green or black snake is a mamba. I'm not even sure mambas are found in Nigeria.

Please do the arithmetic for me, how can someone living on 500k live a comfortable life in Nigeria, because the last time I checked a flight ticket to London for holiday is over a million, a comfortable SUV is over 10 million, rent for a 2 bed flat in Ajah or anywhere in the island is over 2mllion, and installing Solar system in flat is over 4million I never put children school fees and the rest. Please break it down for me.
Don't mind that guy.... He's clearly not earning 500 k a month.

Procashtips:
Professionals don't earn 2000

Meaning they were well to do in Nigeria before relocating.

2000 is for the averages. No professionals or business guys earn 2000, maybe in days or weeks.

We are talking average earners, not professionals.
Well, for the averages, the 2k can be gotten in one job. Add the possibility of having multiple jobs and pooling resources with a spouse, then the current exchange rate.... there's a real feasibility of of sending home up to a million naira monthly for savings and projects.

No once contests what you stated except the healthcare is not free. There is a deductible that goes towards funding NHS - your National Insurance, and now NHS is a mess. For some cases, you could be given one year before you could see the doctor.

I know of people who came to Nigeria to do their surgeries because they could not wait.
Fair enough,. At least they could afford return tickets to and from Nigeria. Goodluck to our minimum wage earners in Nigeria here to be able to afford surgeries.

Do not look at it that way.

The stress of making money in the UK is more than that of Nigeria (unless you are doing professional jobs). This will negatively impact on health as time goes on.

The word - better - is relative, and it varies with individual's circumstances
There are Nigerians doing professional Jobs in the UK. There are Nigerian big time business folks in the UK. Everyone can't be doing menial jobs
Besides m, even if one is doing menial jobs but has a work and resident permit, they can enjoy free and subsidized healthcare there.
Unless you're talking of the illegal immigrants... Their matter is for another Day.

500k per month in Nigeria, has more spending capacity, than 2000 pounds per month in UK.
500k can barely buy an average 3KW gen now..... Apart from food, which is rising daily beyond the affordability of the common man, most consumer goods, house furnishings, fabrics, etc. are imported.

Make I advise you. I live in Nigeria but family in the UK. Honestly, if na Federal Government Job, pls and pls stay in Nigeria. 2000 pounds in the UK? You will pay council tax, house rent, subscribe for internet, gas and power bill except feeding. Like 1500 fit take all these things. 500 pounds remaining. Eating African food cost. What about getting married? U will be stressed over that 200 pounds. Small apartment of 1-bedroom is about 600 pounds.

With 500k in Naija Lagos or Abuja or PH, U are a big boy if u never marry. U will even quick marry. U go buy Toyota Camry 2010 dey cruise am after 2 years. U go rent 1 bed-room tastefully furnished. You fit save build house in 5 years.
With the current Inflation of over 25 percent a month? That 500k will turn to 100k in two years max.

If this is earnings after tax and deductions, rent would gulp atleast half of 2000 pounds. Followed by another 400 in bills. You will still be left with maybe 600 to save.

If this is before tax, you would receive about 1600 after tax, then you can now remove your mandatory expenses.

As for 500k, it's somewhat similar spending power in Nigeria.
1000 pounds a month if the person has a family, if not, they can easily get something of 600 pounds max. And if married, The spouse would likely be working as well and pull through together....

You're assuming that 300 would be free from 2000 right?

Using assumption to plan life?

If it was that easy, all those who japaed would have built houses in Nigeria within 2-3yrs.

I laugh.
There are Nigerian diasporas doing quite well in business and professional endeavors and it's relatively easier for them to attain much more than what I postulated. Mind you, it's the current exchange rate that made 300 Pounds to look that attractive.

The error of conversion again
It's kinda Fair... The aim of jakpa is mostly to repatriate something back home and establish for retirement. for now, anyone abroad that can send 600k a month or more to his savings account in Nigeria is better than someone earning same 600k in Nigeria.

Wise people know they are just using that nonsense as an excuse to continue killing innocent people, nothing like hostages. Gosh the amount of foolish people we have on this planet is worrisome, people that don't know how things work in this world, damn.
Has Hamas denied holding hostages? Or even denied killing hundreds of Israelis on Oct 7?

PoliticsRe: Minimum Wage Talks: Labour Considers N100,000 As Tinubu Issues Ultimatum by ceejayluv(m): 11:39am On Jun 05, 2024
caracas:
Trash ….
The major reason a firm or company downsize is poor or inadequate sales performance or revenue …..
The major reason a company or firm increases the cost of its products n services is high cost of doing business, etc increase in fuel or diesel price n exchange rates….
No company or firm doing well will sack its workers cos they’ve been mandated to increase workers salaries cos if they sack workers who will do the job?
You have to also understand that an increased minimum wage means higher purchasing power n therefore higher sales for firms n businesses….No sensible firm or business will increase its cost of goods n services just because the national minimum wage has been increased , cos the salary increments has no negative effect whatsoever on their good n services, rather it helps improve workers’s purchasing power, which ultimately helps to boost business revenues…
Hiking of wages can have serious impact on OPEX and hence the bottom line ( for businesses with low profit margin) - leading to increase in cost of production, prices and further inflation. It's a cycle of doom. The ultimate solution is to stabilize the naira, strengthen it and minimize inflation to single digit - a tough call.

I thank Obaseki for raising the bar.
Hiking the minimum wage is a bandaid solution, though welcome.
The ultimate is to minimize inflation and improve the value of the currency.

The tenant made the Landlords blood pressure high and caused cardiac arrest. That's should be equal to manslaughter.

I hope you're not a tenant that likes oweing this one you're defending your fellow tenant.
There's no manslaughter case at All. The tenant was probably in his house when the landlord called him out and started the quarrel.

The mere fact that the tenant verbally threatened to kill the landlord makes him culpable and the Nigeria police will capitalise on this
There's no culpability there, my guy. There was no physical altercation.

Na only those IPOB terrorists sympathizer dey talk somthing else on Nairaland. Their elders on ground are of their best behavior.
If not that most of the very vocal Ipob supporters online are not in Nigeria. I'd support arresting a couple of them and detain them indefinitely as exemplary measure.

You are talking about the problem the uniformed personnel created in the east. How did the uniformed personnel become threats to east in the first place?? By mounting roadblocks all over the place and extorting road users and attempting to intimidate everyone in their environment?? Yet when they see criminals, they look away for the local vigilantes to take care of them?? Now, Biafra day's case was clearly communicated right from the governor who said the state would not confront enforcers of the Biafra day, why couldn't the military understand his clear language about day and remain in their barracks??
Why didn't the armed secessionist group themselves stay at home to honour the Biafra Day?. Instead of going around looking for who to harass or kill, stifling freedom of movement.
The military's loyalty is to Nigeria And not Biafra.

Duty post on the road, can you hear yourself??

Where then would the police be if the military should be the ones occupying the streets of a supposed democratic state??
They would have still killed the police if they were in that post. They've been killing uniformed personnel for years now.
