Gerrard I don't have answers to all your questions. But I'll try and answer to the best of my knowledge What I do know is that salaries are competitive. The fees this year are about 6.1 million and could hit 7 next year. It's also a non-profit school so my guess is that salaries would be in the upper quartile of private schools. What I do know for sure is, they have purpose-built flat apartments for teaching staff. Over 65 of them. Everyone gets one. I also know that they have a pension plan for teaching staff as well. Not sure if this extends to non-teaching staff. I know the minimum qualification is a Bachelors degree from an accredited university. I'm unsure what additional qualifications they need but as with these things, additional quals and experiences definitely help in securing competitive jobs. They have protestants and Muslims in their teaching staff. Jesuit schools are equal opportunity employers and do not discriminate on the basis of religious affiliation. A little over half of the Loyola student body is catholic. So a significant portion is non-Catholic ( protestant, Muslim etc). Muslims are not required to attend Christian religious gatherings and are encouraged to fast in a way (they are provided with specific meals to facilitate their fast) |
Gerrard59 Sure, there were many top people. Off the top of my head, Fr John Mitchell who is now at the University of San Franscico Faculty of Engineering, taught Physics and Mathematics at Loyola https://myusf.usfca.edu/jesuit/profiles Fr. Schineller, Fr. Roselli etc taught English, CRK etc. People have no idea why Loyola is what it is. Also, I get your point but one does not know whether she is an actual American citizen or what her background is. White racism targets all black people regardless of ethnicity. They see you in a position of power, they assume DEI or try to denigrate the work, sweat and blood that comes with attaining those positions. They talk about "DEI" as a negative thing, but the only reason why affirmative action is a thing is because of the racial inequities and biases that still preclude black people from opportunities. What she's saying is that there should be NO DOUBLE STANDARD. Affirmative action is being attacked, but white nepotistic admissions (where kids of white donors are heavily favored in the admissions process) is lauded or seeing as normal. Affirmative action admitted qualified kids (albeit with socioeconomic challenges), Legacy admissions does not. If I moved to the US today, I feel like it's my duty to contribute to the push towards social justice that was started by the OGs. This is the only right thing to do. |
Onegai:One thing I never do online is insult. Show me where I insulted you. I only said you made claims that are not adding up. The drug abuse, the nephew attending Loyola (especially being unaware of the fees. If my nephew/niece attended a school, I'd have an idea of what the fees are). I'm just wondering how "Mushin" and "not travelling abroad" ended up in this conversation Everything I've said is verifiable. Gerrard59 made a post about Top WAEC scorers in 2009 (17 years ago!) - Loyola still topped that list. Catholic schools in general do very well My point is Loyola students work their b*tts off to attain excellence My only contention with the school is that they do not publicize or advertise this excellence like others. They'd tell you their mission is primarily: Service of God and Others as reflected in their motto, so they try to teach their kids Love, service and respect for others (religion, tribe etc) |
Onegai And sure while Graceland is excellent at Math based on competitions as in the last Math for life competition (https://www.vanguardngr.com/2025/03/national-mathematics-tournament-graceland-international-school-emerges-winner/) where Graceland came tops and Loyola came second, I try not to use competitions as a basis for judging that because they tend to showcase one or two shining stars. I use general performance of every student in a cohort in external exams and standardized tests. Thats a better measure of academic prowess if you had followed this competition closely, you'd have noticed one Graceland student, of their two representatives, answered over 99 percent of the questions they were asked. |
Onegai:You said: "I can show you schools that outperform this". My response is: "SHOW ME". I'm also in Education too. The AMERICAN EMBASSY IN NIGERIA literally acknowledged Loyola as producing the first perfect ACT score in West Africa in 2020 in this post: https://web.facebook.com/watch/?v=595873024494921%2F You say other schools are doing this, I'm speaking about recognized standardized tests WAEC, JAMB, SAT, ACT not small competitions here and there that showcase one or two students I have attached a screen shot of their JAMB performance. For someone in Education, show me a school where 89 students write JAMB and only 4 students score below 300. If a student was 85th position of 89 in class, they still had a score above 300. That record is unmatched anywhere! You say you can simply train a student for the Ivys. NOT TRUE. SATs are a test of IQ. As with every IQ test, you can train the child to attain their maximum attainable score (essentially the max score their intelligence can help them attain). College Board (the makers of the SAT) state that the test has been designed to ensure students scores correlate with their actual abilities regardless of the number of times they take the test. Ivy leagues accept only the best (if you're not a wealthy legacy donor) and their average acceptance scores are always VERY high. Extracurriculars don't carry nearly as much weight with international admissions. Coincidentally, speaking of Ivy league entry (for wealthy often white applicants), this Guardian US article was authored by a Loyola Jesuit Alum: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/nov/17/harvard-university-students-smart-iq I have also attached a screenshot of the last full WAEC ranking ever produced. WAEC was courted by private schools to stop producing rankings because it was affecting their businesses apparently. If you are told that Loyola has produced the best JAMB and WAEC more times than any other school and you still claim there are schools that have better records. Drop them here. LET'S SEE THEM You claim your Nephew went to Loyola, yet you did not know that Loyola fees were well over 1 million since 2010! Miss me with that If you know about Loyola, and if you read the wiki, you'd know Loyola is not your typical catholic school (because you seem to be generalizing a lot). This school was built and run largely by American Jesuit priests up until 2010 when they handed over. At the time, you had professors from Jesuit universities in their teaching staff. The President, Fr Pat Ryan, was the one time Vice President (Chancellor) of one of the biggest universities in New York, Fordham University (where Donald Trump and Denzel Washington went to univ) and a former lecturer at Harvard. Loyola has pedigree. I'm not speaking about other Jesuit schools in Nigeria. This is specifically about Loyola Jesuit College. I call the drug thing BS. First off, if a child was abusing drugs at home for whatever reason and other parents knew about it, the school would have heard, and that child is not stepping Campus. A school that expelled the daughter of a sitting northern Governor in 2012 for simply having a cell phone on campus in 2012, you don't know the half of it. Finally, there's a reason why every year over 2500 kids from across Nigeria and outside sit for their entrance exam to have only 100 students accepted (That's less than a 5 percent acceptance rate). Parents know what they are looking for, Entry is only in JS 1. There are no day students and they don't accept transfers into any other classes.

Onegai:I'm not sure where you got this information from but Loyola Jesuit has never had any substance abuse problem. Loyola is very tightly controlled. You step a foot out of line, you're expelled. No questions Saying Loyola "has now become a school for the rich". Loyola was 200,000 naira in 1996 when it started. It was over 1 million 15 years ago. It is now well over 6 million. It has always been that school to attract the best and brightest children from across the country. Do you know the former Governor of Kano state and APC chairman (Ganduje) had kids there in the 2000s and 2010s. Likewise, Oshiomole (former APC chairman and Edo State governor), Rochas Okorocha (former Imo state governor), Adamu (former Nasarawa state governor), Oni (former Ekiti state governor), Abike Dabiri, Patrick Utomi (Labor Party presidential candidate), Dieziani Madueke (former petroleum minister) and several senators and prominent politicians. Ambassadors as well (Umboimobhi - nigerian ambassador to switzerland) and so forth. My point is, Loyola has consistently being one of the most disciplined schools in the country yet they've never had corporal punishments from the start - no flogging or cutting grass etc. They place more graduates into top (ivy league) universities in the US than any other school and they are still the most selective secondary school in the country. They hold the record for the best American College Test results (the first perfect score in west africa in the test), the best SAT results, the best JAMB result more times than any other school (the most recent, Eyinmofe Adebayo in 2022 who is now at MIT, and highest number of WAEC 'firsts' after Lumen Christi in Uromi in Edo state. When cowbellpedia was a thing, they produced the only student to top cowbellpedia in the junior and senior categories. As at 2020, well over 80 percent of every graduating class schools in the US, UK or Canada. Not sure what the stat is now Did I also mention it is arguably the most diverse school in the country? As at 2020, they had students representing 28 states in the federation. More than half of the school (about 400 of a total of 600 students) live in Lagos, Portharcourt, Enugu, Benin, Kaduna, Kano) and a good number of Nigerian parents that sent their kids from Abroad (UK, US, Canada, even Angola and South Africa) The icing on the cake is, you NEED to go on linked In and see where their Alum are working, several are at Google, Facebook (Meta), Amazon, Microsoft, the big 4, Mckinsey/BCG/Bain, Deutsche Bank etc. Many hold MBAs from Dartmouth Tuck, Harvard, Stanford, Chicago Booth etc You may take a look at their wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loyola_Jesuit_College. I guess you need to be certain about what you post before you post. I have no idea what goes on in other schools |

tensazangetsu20:I know I'd get the visa, nothing in my travel history is questionable. But I just want to know whether it's 2 weeks or 2 months so I can plan adequately that's all |
If I apply for an E-visa this week (tourism) to Chile, how fast would I get notified about the outcome? Do I need a physical visa stamp to travel or transit the airport. Thanks! |
Dedewizzy:Appreciate it |
Centrix:Anyone, please? I sent an email to the LAG embassy about applying for CPF but received no response |
Hello, Can someone please post the STEPS FOR APPLYING FOR A CPF here in Nigeria including - Required documents to apply -Website to apply through -How long after application it takes to receive the CPF -How to schedule an appointment to submit the hard copy documents (It seems the embassy will not let you in except you have a reason to be there) |
Peterson11321:Same. Can u drop your IG or any social media account. I'll contact you there |
NaturesSon:Loyola fees are 5.5 million this year. The majority (80-90 percent) of every graduating class at Loyola attend top universities abroad. How do you put regent, ics (ctl or whatever) ahead of Loyola? What metrices did you use? Also none of those campuses compares to Loyola's in terms of size and (arguably) beauty/landscaping. There a reason it remains the most sort after secondary school in the country. |
YoshihideSuga:Use this book to practice https:///product/catholic-high-school-entrance-exams-coop-hspt-tachs-5885635 I think certain primary schools have an edge because they teach the type of content that comes out in the exams. Ultimately, the exams are a test of IQ. Admission is strictly on Merit. An average child cannot keep up with the rigor and pace of learning which is why it's important they admit the best kids. Loyola enforces rules regardless of whose children they are of. |

YoshihideSuga:I'm not sure about the salaries but I do know they are not a for-profit organization like most private schools so teachers are paid generously. Fees this year is about 5 million. They do have additional termly fees for using medical facilities and a few other services. Loyola is VERY selective in its admissions. Every year, about 2500 students sit for the entrance exam into JS 1. They accept only 120 (about 4 percent of applicants). Every student must live in the boarding house and they do not accept transfers into other classes. So your classmates in JS1 are the same ones you'd graduate with in SS 3 barring those that leave in-between. It is a very close-knit community. They've had and still have some pretty high profile parents. Mind you, they'd NEVER admit your kids based on who you are but strictly on Merit. The entrance exam is administered once in a year, followed by an interview. Some of the high profile parents are: Former Kano State Governor and present APC chairman, Ganduje, had two kids there. One graduated in 2004 and was just appointed by Tinubu as the Executive Director of Rural Electrification (Umar Abdullahi) Former Nassarawa Governor's daughter, Adamu. I think he is a senator Former Edo State Governor and former APC chairman's son, Oshiomole. Former Ekiti Governors son and daughter, Oni. Former Akwa Ibom governor and current Senate President, Akpabio had two kids at Loyola Former Imo State Governor's son, Udenwa. Former Imo State Governor's daughter, Rochas Okorocha Former Kogi Sate Deputy Governor, Omeiza Former Labor party's presidential candidate, Patrick Utomi. Had two kids at Loyola Abike Dabiri had two kids Former Ambassador of Nigeria to Switzerland Uhomoibhi, had two kids Former Finance minister's kid, Diezani Madueke, graduated in 2003 (This was long before she became minister) Former CEO of Fidelity Bank, Ihejiahi, had 4 kids there Fomer CEO of Konga had two kids there, one of which is CEO of the firm A good number of senators: Ndoma-Egba, Chris-Asoluka etc. There are quite a number, can't type it all. |
YoshihideSuga:The difference between Loyola and Ambassadors is that while Ambassadors might have a small group of shining stars that it puts forward for competitions, Loyola has an entire school of stars. Also, Loyola does not advertise itself like other private schools do. For the class of 2023, one student got a full ride to Princeton (currently the highest ranked US university), another got a full ride to Yale. Two students got full scholarships to Johns Hopkins (one of the best medical schools in the US). They had one full ride to University of Chicago and two to Rice University, Houston (all of these schools are top 10 universities). One to UCLA, USC and UCal Berkeley. This same set had 89 students, 77 of them had over 300 in JAMB. In 2022, they produced the best student in JAMB, Eyimofe Adebayo. The same student got a fully funded offer to MIT. More than 80 - 90 percent of every set gets into top schools in the US, UK and Canada. Last year, 2 students represented Nigeria in Olympiad Chemistry in Switzerland Also, every year, they send 25 ss2/3 students to participate in Model United Nations at Washington DC in February. The difference is, they don't advertise like other schools do |
YoshihideSuga:How much do you think Loyola Jesuit fees are? The fees are expensive o |
ifax:This is for a B visa and not an F yeah? |
ifax:I know someone with a December appointment in Abuja that hasn't been canceled but for an interview waiver appointment at DHL. Where you scheduled for an in-person interview or IW? |
brotimi:I was just wondering, is Lagos offering emergency appointments? Also how do I apply for them. I checked the website but the link to the EA form is broken or do I just send an email? How did you go about it. Thanks! |
So I noticed it's impossible to cancel an already existing appointment once we book. Are there any Interview Waiver (drop box) dates in Lagos now? I hear the Abuja embassy is transferring its existing appointments to Lagos. Has anyone booked a dropbox appointment recently? Thanks! |

Ilamina:And this is only a small section of the school. The campus is huge, green and very beautiful. Olashore, atlantic hall, bells, whitesands and lekki british are definitely not comparable to Loyola |
Ilamina:So a swimming pool is your standard of luxury not the natural environment and architecture? Loyola was built in the 90's and had arguably the best campus at the time. Obviously, times have changed with newer, more modern architectural designs. But Beauty and luxury goes beyond modern architecture. Harvard was built in the 1600s and even though its buidings are far from modern, the campus still provides an ambience of style and class. This is literally how Loyola's campus feels like. Ive attached a few pics. Again..you need to visit
|
Ilamina:lol Atlantic hall just doesn't look as good as Loyola. Whitesands has a tiny campus (It's a day only school), olashore barely has a storey building on campus. Bells is not even on par with the rest you listed. Lekki british has a small campus with a single building. |
Ilamina:Luxurious in terms of what? What facilities do they have that Loyola doesn't? Loyola's campus is light years ahead of atlantic hall bells whitesands or olashore. |
KingClown:Loyola has one of the biggest, spacious and most beautiful campus in Nigeria. I suspect you saw photos of Jesuit Memorial in ph and assumed it to be Loyola. Here's a similar thread from Nairaland on Loyola : https://www.nairaland.com/3955914/loyola-jesuit-abuja-pictures |
femi4:Loyola's standard is even higher than it was. Where did you get this from? It is still the most sought after secondary school in Nigeria. They accept about a hundred students out of over 5000 that write the entrance exam into JS 1 every year. |

), we were looking at the best way to get the child prepared for school abroad. Greensprings mentioned their alumni doing well abroad and has a reputation for being a good STEM school.
