Ilamina: It's just now, I am hearing loyola is expensive It's a dope secondary school
But loyola wasn't known for cool rich campus
Like the bells secondary school, olasore, green springs, white sands, atlanta hall, British lekki
Loyola just focused on academics. .where the best brian's . .go and compete No time for swimming pool on campus So much misinformation on here 1. Catholics are not idol worshippers. 2. Loyola is *3million per session not 2 million 3. Loyola arguably has a better campus than most of the schools you listed. The campus is spacious, green and beautiful. 4. Loyola is still the most sought after secondary school in the country and still takes the best students 5. There are probably more non-catholic students than there are catholic at Loyola NB: Here's another thread on Nairaland on the same topic ( https://www.nairaland.com/3955914/loyola-jesuit-abuja-pictures ) |

NL1960: Are you sure it is not through the extra payments made by parents to teachers that are specialist in Loyola exams?. I heard it is very expensive to engage a Loyola Jesuit specialist teacher. I also normally see a lot of Corona in the pass list of Louisville in Ijebu itele. Not necessarily. Corona was one of the first few exam centers for Loyola exams in the 90s. They've been doing this for so long. But Corona Pry school standards are still better than most big name pry schools in Lag for sure. |

drafrican: Thank you,i actually attended corona pry sch but to be honest am not impressed with the kids of family friends that attend the sch,for mothers its a status symbol and most of them cant get into sec sch like loyola, olashore, day waterman, oritamefa baptist they all end up in corona where they fail ,waec pass gce cant pass jamb n end up in uk or cyprus ,the standard has dropped you pay all that and still need lesson teachers
While in corona in pry 4 i scored 480 in common enterance in pry 5 i scored 565 My sibling had 7 As in ssce but now corona is a mess,it all about cash and the closest to me is gbagada. Well that was corona of the 80s probably but more students get into loyola from corona than any other school. Chrisland and Montesorri Int School Ph are also worth mentioning. Corona standards (including the sec school) is deft much higher than it used to be. 10 corona students had over 300 in JAMB 2 years ago. Expensive yes, but relatively good. Olashore and Day Waterman do not have competitive entrance exams like that. Any child with average learning abilities can get in. I'd say corona sec school entrance exams are way more competitive than those two |

drafrican: Good morning, My question is simple Why dont we have ratings for primary schools in Nigeria based on performance. I am searching for a school for my kids and i noticed anytime i ask people always just list the most expensive as the best.
Pls i need a school in yaba/surulere with core academic values and other things can follow am not keen on ballet and co to me they are secondary.
The names ve heard of are blooming greens, pampers, oakwood, womens association university of lagos ,redeemers, mbari mbayo
Pls dont say st saviors i cannot afford it.
I really want to know which one is really academically and morally sound
I wish loyola jesuit would tell us the schools in lagos and hiw their kids perform @ their enterance exam.
Bottom line help me pick a school. Corona (Any of them) and chrisland |
Education › Re: Grange School, BIS, Lekki British School or AISL? by Centrix: 11:01am On Feb 06, 2019 |
I've been to Loyola Jesuit and I've been to Grange. Grange is impressive, Loyola is way more impressive, very beautiful school. I'd say do it. People shuttle weekly between cities so travel shouldn't be a problem.
Not sure how much discipline there is at AIS, BIS or Lekki British but if I had to make a choice going strictly by the "international" education you seek, I would choose AIS because it is really the only AUTHENTIC expatriate owned and run school in Lagos. Students come from everywhere and teachers are largely expatriate unlike the other three schools. That being said, things are not the way they used to be. The world is going mad so you might want to include discipline/moral principles in choosing a school.
Second choice will be grange. From my knowledge (outdated), they outperform other British curriculum schools in Lagos in the iGCSE exams and admission is mildly competitive. |

MaziOmenuko: Lol...after everything, JAMB humbles them all. They end up in private universities where JAMB is not a requirement. The few of them that manage to make it into the Federal Universities are not as smart as you are shouting. We saw them all. Guy, why you taking this personal na. You asked about JAMB, someone posted something about the JAMB record to date being held by a student from that school (Greg Ugwi, 2003). You asked about Cowbell, you were referred to a post about their students placing first and third nationally in cowbellpedia in 2015. You asked about WAEC you were told they've being the most consistent in topping WAEC charts since their first WAEC in 2002. Just concede you were wrong |

yemiosinbajo: Believe it or not, but I got nothing to lie about. She was top of her class in LJC, but her post utme score and GPA ranked her way below top five in UI. I'm tempted to mention her name, but I don't want to do that 'cos there are a lot of UI peepz here. I totally understand your sentiment- you think being the best in LJC automatically makes you the best in any other school. You may be right, but I dare tell you that medical school is different, especially one such as UI. Don't misunderstand me, the girl is truly good, but UI medical school is more challenging than LJC. If you still don't believe, send me a PM and I will send you her name and the book of life (GPA book).
Also, not all of LJC's best students get those full scholarships through LJC. Many of them graduate from LJC and go EducationUSA Abuja where they qualify for the Opportunity funds to receive those full rides.
No doubt LJC students are the bomb, but med school life is different. You will surely encounter a stronger challenge in med school no matter where you're coming from. Imagine an LJC best student meeting a Victor Olalusi (google that name) in class!! Mehnnn, med school dey humble giants o! I googled Victor Olalusi, great achiever. But let me share with you a few names: Gregory Ugwi: 340 out of 400 (100 in Physics), JAMB 2003. Still holds JAMB record today. Went to Princeton and now owns a million dollar company in the US. Went to LJC Odaro Omusi:Best Student in WAEC in West Africa. 2005 John Yusuf: Best WAEC student in West Africa. 2007 Went to Harvard LJC students had the best JAMB result in the country 2009, 2011 and 2013. Habiba Daggash: First Class Honors from Cambridge University So many other names, too many to mention. The most recent, Johnpaul Nwaezeigwe. Even Kechi the Americas Got Talent singer, plane crash survivor, graduated top of her class. The best LJC students make the top results in the country in JAMB. Go to their wikipedia page. So if she told you she was the best student in her year, then she's probably not telling the truth |

yemiosinbajo: So, you think medical students in Nigeria are dumb, right? You are saying "lies"; do you expect me to mention her name on a public forum? I'm saying how do you know she was LJC's best? LJCs best score highly on the SATs and are able to get full tuition scholarships to highly ranked universities. I'm not disputing the fact that she went to LJC, but to say she was the best? ADONBELIEVEIT |
Education › Re: Ten Most Expensive Secondary Schools In Nigeria 2017 by Centrix: 1:20am On Jun 12, 2017 |
yemiosinbajo: Okay. It would be different if she attended UI. Because we have LJC's best student in UI and the person does not even rank among top 5, though also very brilliant. Med sch is extremely competitive. LJC's best student? not ranking top 5? Lies. LJCs best students attend the best colleges in the US and UK. |

Education › Re: Corona Secondary School, Agbara Tuition & Boarding Fees? by Centrix: 10:01am On Feb 08, 2017 |
neurosci: Total fees including tuition, boarding and others at Loyola Jesuit College was 1.5 million naira per year as at last year. But if your son can get the highest score among male candidates in the common entrance exam, he would be given a full scholarship for the entire six years of study at the sch. Even if he doesn't get the highest score but performs well, he can still get a full scholarship if you inform the sch about your inability to pay. About 10% of the school population is on a scholarship. And it is the best secondary school in West Africa since at least the last 10 years. It's about 2 million this year. Doesn't include development levy for Year 7's.They rarely give full scholarships anymore. I think they still give partial funding but to a lot less than 1p percent of the school population |
Education › Re: Corona Secondary School, Agbara Tuition & Boarding Fees? by Centrix: 9:58am On Feb 08, 2017 |
NL1960: Quite true. I think they have a day section in another area of Abuja. I was considering the school for my son but the fees is beyond what i could afford. If i had the money, i would choose it over Corona. The unfortunate thing also is that they do not have transfer exams to other classes. With the high standards and competition to enter, i doubt any child fails any class to even create space. Their interview process lasts 10 days. That tells you the number of applicants to the school. I think they have common entrance centres in UK, US and Canada. Yes. Their wikipedia page says they got 5000 applications in 2010 and accepted only 100. They don't have a day section though. Everyone boards. |
Education › Re: Corona Secondary School, Agbara Tuition & Boarding Fees? by Centrix: 2:20am On Feb 08, 2017 |
NL1960: Yes o. The most expensive which is Loyola Jesuit, Abuja is still less. It is very tough to get into because the competition is very very very high and they only take a fixed number every year. It is only boarding and the fees are not so different from Corona's. Entry is at year 7 (JS 1) only. Transfers to higher classes isn't allowed |
