Olaolufred: YOU MENTIONED 2 OBAS. THE THIRD ONE HAS NO KINGDOM. OLU FALAE IS NOT AN OBA. THE 2 OBAS MENTIONED AND ARE FROM ILESA AND IFE. MEANWHILE, EBELLEI HAD BEEN TOLD TO GO ON SOUN BY YORUBA KINGS. WHY ARE PEOPLE DECIEVING PEOPLE?
WELL, THE HANDWRITING IS ON THE WALL. In other words, the 'two'(according to u) that came compromised their positions? |

OrlandoOwoh: No. But the number of the oba at the meeting is too small to be called the representatives of the Yoruba people. The only prominent oba there were the Ooni of Ife and the Owa Obokun of Ijeshaland. The two of them are from the same senatorial zone, Ife-Ijesha. Where are other oba from the two remaining senatorial zones, not to talk of other oba from the remaining five Yoruba states as well as Kogi and Kwara states? lol.... Alright! Now I got your point, which is, being few in number.... But does it really matter? GEJ has dropped his message. The few 'Obas' will pass GEJ's message across to others. Or what do u think? |

OrlandoOwoh: It appears you're not aware that oba in Yorubaland see themselves as siblings from the same father. They met in Ita Ijero in Ile-Ife from where they left to form their kingdoms in Ife, Benin, Ilesa, Oyo, Ketu, Sabe, Ondo, etc. I understand but does it mean Obas must always a political summit together? |

OrlandoOwoh: Your excuse is watery. What gathering of oba in Yorubaland that you will only have just two prominent oba? This was a summit organised by the Yoruba Concerned Leaders (YCL) GEJ was only the special guest of honour. It's the duty of the organizers of the summit to invite other Obas, and it's left for them to attend if they wish. |

PRESS RELEASE: Students' Union Leaders Appreciate Jonathan, Condemn 'Political Tools' PRESS RELEASE
Revolutionary greetings to all and sundry in the South West Zone, Osun state, Ife community and the generality of Great Ife Students on a successful host of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR for a special meeting with the Council of Obas in South West.
The leadership of the Students’ Union is appreciative of the listening character of the President as well as the efforts of individuals who facilitated the meeting with the President. It is imperative at this point to relay the product of the discussion with the President. The Speaker of the SRC addressed the President and submitted the protest letter which he personally received and gave assurances that the major issue in the letter – increment in fees is going to be addressed holistically in no long time as there are other schools that are affected. He committed himself to address welfare issues that affect OAU specifically.
Although some self-centered and politically-sponsored individuals attempted to unleash their demonic resolutions to deter and dissuade the union leaders from making pressing demands that will enhance the welfare of Great Ife students on campus, to make necessary demands for the reversal of fees and the reinstatement of some of our suspended students from the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. On his way out, the president stepped out to the cheers of the students, receiving a lot of applause from the entirety of Great Ife students and commuters having heard that he had committed himself on the increment. Meanwhile, just as the Union President conveyed to His Excellency, we again implore the president to stick to his promise, as a man of honour and integrity, as Great Ife students are in great anticipation and expectance. The cheers you received today at the time you were leaving were premised on the fact that we believed you will address the increment immediately. Mr President, the reversal of increased fees should also be extended to all Federal Universities and pump funds into education in the interest of the country.
However, we condemn the attitude of some individuals who portrayed themselves as elements of frustration and cheap political tools. Through this medium, we warn them to stay away from OAU campus as they are not unknown to the leadership of the union. We maintain our ground as Intellectual Fighters for Emancipation and not as uncoordinated confusionists and anarchists.
The leadership of the Union is very much undistracted in the maximization of this opportunity to solve the myriad of problems confronting Great IFE students. We also remain committed to the execution of our proposed projects and the completion of ongoing ones – Angola and Mozambique hall water projects, Great IFE app, Union website, and buses for campus shuttle, union hostel, among others.

•Says Nigeria’ll overcome her challenges
•Jimoh Ibrahim assures GEJ of 7 million votes in S’West
President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday said Nigeria would overcome her current challenges, just as he regretted the emergence of Aminu Tambuwal as Speaker of the House of Representatives at the expense of Mulikat Akande-Adeola, the Peoples Democratic Party preferred candidate for the position.
President Jonathan, who made the declaration in Ile-Ife, while addressing a day summit, organised by the Yoruba Concerned Leaders with the theme: “Nigeria Development: Whither the Yoruba” extolled the virtues of Yoruba people, describing their contributions to all spheres of the nation’s life as “exemplary”.
He, however, hinged the inability of Akande-Adeola to emerge Speaker to the decision by some people from the region, who “thought otherwise”.
He said “one of the problems I face is the National Assembly. Our party has arrangement for positions.
When a president and vice president emerge from different regions, other offices – the Senate President, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the party chairman and Speaker of House of Representatives must come from different geo-political zones.
“The idea is that when we are to decide, people in these positions meet with us to decide on crucial things. In that case we want every geo-politically zones to be represented in that inner caucus of our party.
Last time, it was difficult for me because I insisted that South West must get Speaker but some of us within South West didn’t want that because of personal ambition and I am still suffering for that till today.
“That is why I am telling our leaders here that this time around we must work together and ensure that whatever position that is zoned to South West, we must get and no one should rob us of it”.
Speaking further at the event held at Oduduwa Hall in Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile Ife, Jonathan averred that his administration had been fair to the people of South West and assured that the import of the strategic position the region occupies, as touches on the economy of the country, is not lost on his administration.
Referring to the assertion by businessman and politician, Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim, who in his remarks earlier, relied on the World Bank poverty ratings of regions in the country which listed South West as having 16 per cent while North East has the highest rate of 52 per cent, Jonathan maintained that South West region would continue to enjoy robust economy owing to the active economic activities around Lagos and Ogun states which, according to him, has almost 55 per cent of the nation’s economic activities.
“When Jimoh was talking about World Bank statistics of the poverty rate in regions in the country, he said South West has least in the country. In fact, Lagos and Ogun contributed almost 55 per cent of the economic activities.
So, we know where the wealth is, the infrastructures there must be provided,” Jonathan said. Assuring that the report of Constitutional Conference would be implemented, Jonathan said the situation at the moment was not conducive for its implementation.
“Political situation in Nigeria presently does not favour implementation of such report. Because of partisan interest, people are even ready to kill.
We cannot play with such documents that our great men and women toil to produce. I believe every content will be taken by government. I have said it and I am saying it again that we will implement the report of the confab,” Jonathan said.
He assured that he would continue to cherish the contribution of the Yoruba race alongside people from other parts of the country and promised never to leave the region behind in the developmental programmes of his administration, while hinting that booklets that would contain all his achievements in all the regions of the country would be developed.
Delivering a paper on the topic, Unity of Yoruba Nation’s, former Minister of Transport, Chief Ebenezer Babatope, assured the president of Yoruba support, noting that Jonathan is a product of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s prophesy in 1983 that the minority group would produce Nigeria’s president.
In his welcome address, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade, called for unity among people of the region to ensure what is due for the race is given to them.
Addressing the gathering, Group Managing Director of Global Fleet, Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim, said the South West region would trust Jonathan and give him over 7 million votes in next February polls. He however led the open endorsement of President Jonathan as the presidential candidate of the region in next year’s election, assuring that the people of the region would work very hard for Jonathan’s victory.
Former chairman of the Nigeria Ports Authority, Chief Bode George; former Ogun State governor, Chief Gbenga Daniel; and Senator Femi Okunrounmu, in their separate remarks, stated that Yoruba people could not afford to be going in different directions hence the need to manage their dispute with civility. In their goodwill messages, the Orangun Of Oke Ila,Oba Adedokun Abolarin; Chief Olu Falae; Governor Ayodele Fayose; Mrs Mulikat Akande Adeola and Senator Femi Okunrounmu urged the president not to be distracted by negative comments and actions of some people to his administration.

Politics › Buhari’s Aircraft Barred From Landing At Makurdi Airport by ceo4eva(op): 7:59pm On Nov 26, 2014 |
MAKURDI — A chartered aircraft conveying former Head of State and All Progressive Congress, APC, presidential aspirant, Gen. Mohammadu Buhari (rtd) and his entourage, was Wednesday allegedly denied landing rights by the authoriities of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, in Makurdi, Benue State.
Vanguard gathered from a reliable source that Gen. Buhari, alongside his entourage, was travelling from Bayelsa State to Makurdi to woo delegates of his party ahead of the APC delegates congress scheduled for December but had their flight denied permission to touch down in Makurdi.
According to him, “the flight was earlier granted landing permission but we were all surprised when half an hour to his arrival a counter directive was issued mid-flight thereby forcing the aircraft to head to Abuja.
“What they did was evil and dangerous, what if the plane was low on fuel, what do you think would have happened? Desperation has set into our politics, and it is posing grave danger to our democracy.”
When contacted on phone, the Benue State Chairman of the APC, Comrade Abba Yaro confirmed the development describing it as unfortunate.
He explained that loyalists of the party who had laid siege at the airport Wednesday morning were disappointed and had to disperse when they learnt of the unfortunate development.
“We will certainly react to this ugly incident because what they have done was not only callous and wicked but also unacceptable in modern day Nigeria.”
All attempts to speak with officials of FAAN in Makurdi on the matter failed as they all declined to comment on the issue. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/11/buharis-aircraft-barred-landing-makurdi-airport/ |
