Politics › Man Weds Dead by chamboy(op): 8:28am On Jun 22, 2015 |
A man, Onyema Orji was at the weekend in Nwakpu, Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, forced to ‘officially’ marry his dead wife, Blessing so as to posses the children born for him by the deceased. Orji had divorced Blessing on the ground that her mother was interfering in their marriage, forcing Blessing to marry another man, one Chukwuma. The former marriage between Blessing and Orji produced children including twins; while the present union failed to produce any child. Blessing later died. But there was drama during the burial when the first husband, Onyema Orji brought items for her burial and wanted to take the children born for him by the late Blessing, but was told by Blessing’s family that he could bury her but could not take possession of the children as he had not performed the traditional marriage rite that will empower him to claim the children. This forced Onyema to perform the traditional marriage rite on Blessing who was lying motionless inside casket awaiting the burial. He later performed the traditional marriage rite and wedded Blessing and subsequently left with his children.

Normality: Glad everyone is talking war, we aren't mincing words with zoo baboons again.
Why IPOB is preparing for the war, purchasing all that will be needed and seeking the face of Chukwu Abiama, funding ogbunigwe factories, buying and stocking weapons, talking to governments and groups that matter, preparing and sensitizing people, people like me are volunteering for the army, I am receiving training, IPOB is planning everything in order not to fail. People are shouting declare war nau.
I am actually looking at zoo boys scouts without foreign troops being in battle field. I actually see us whooping some arsses. No wonder people are scared.
1000years? Fight still dey, and it must reach every other corner of Nigeria, Somali in waiting? Yes perhaps, we will nuke this entity? Yes. carry gun... let me burst ur Bubble... Igbos in NA would fight for Nigeria |

Atk1nson: d enemy of d ibos are not d yorubas or s hausas. We have a common enemy which is corruption and every ethnic group and region is suffering it. How many Igbos can comfortably go their hometown and make a decent living, it's not all about low allocation, even d one given to the leaders are squandered. U are free to continue with ur line of thinking, but rest assured, u are in d minority and many of dose towing ur line of tot are either jobless or destitute people who would rather believe that it's a yoruba or hausa man dat is causing his failure rather than a failure in leadership which is affecting all nigerians. u won't find any successful Igbo man with ur kind of tot because d most successful Igbo men thrive on nigerias diversity to run their business. As for foolish oba dat decided to stir up ethnic sentiments, there will always d such, it is however good to know dat he was roundly condemned by all politician dey dont knw dis |

Lordave: The thread is a haven for other ethnic groups to call Igbos all sorts of names. You claim to be Igbo and opened this thread to discourage those agitating for Biafra, yet you ignored and even supported mor0ns like omoamukoda in bashing Igbos out of context and purpose. Now people are all over the thread insulting Igbos generally and you're rejoicing and merrying with them. What type of Igbo are you? Have you lost your senses? Do you actually know your roots? Are you really Igbo? Even non Nigerians would ask these questions.
You don't see anything inciting but I'm riled up already. Take for example, you were asking who Igbos were and what they stood for when the British came to Nigeria. You're Igbo, nevertheless, the Hausa/fulani centralised pre colonial system of administration made more sense to you than the egalitarian Igbos republican system. Even the whites recognised us as people naturally independent, our system was comparable with the ancient Greek democratic system. Is it that you have an inborn slave instinct or you're an Hausa-fulani claiming Igbo? Even Yorubas insulting Igbos on this thread would also marvel at the level of your Iberiberism if actually you're Igbo.
No matter how strong you're against a decision you will never stoop so low in technically making stupid jest of your brothers. A Yoruba won't cherish our pre colonial system of government over theirs and that leaves me wondering if you're actually sane or just a jumped-up random impostor. chest-beater aiye |

Atk1nson: yeah, but Igbo men doing same is not uncommon in Lagos. Our ethnic and religious infighting is only making us a sleeping gaint. If only we can judge people by the content of their character we would be one of the worlds greatest black nation. Even in biafra, dey will not be equity or justice with the kind of mindset most people have Mostly The Enlightened Ones |

Rotimi47: Lovely write up, but some people will still let ethnic sentiments take a hold of them; the Igbo's should build a consensus with other ethnic groups because we all need each other to advance our ethnic groups. Let take western countries for example. They have put in place immigration policies that allow people from diverse countries to be residents because they know the benefit; Germany was divided but they came back together after the Berlin Wall came down and now Germany is the richest country in Europe. Ethiopia,Sudan,Yugoslavia, India etc broke up but look at them today in comparison to Germany that came together not to talk about China,United state, UK, France etc that have stayed together. The Igbo's can't win another civil war even with the support if the Ijaws and other south south ethnic groups but they can have their way if the Yoruba's join them but the Yoruba's ain't ready to leave Nigeria. Check out which support each ethnic groups will receive from outside Nigeria excluding the world powers; the Hausa's will get support from chad, Niger, mali and from the Islamic world, Yoruba's will receive support from Benin,Togo, ghana, ivory coast, Cuba, Brazil, the Caribbeans, the Igbo's will receive from maybe Cameroon. So do the maths, everyone will receive help from countries that have sizeable population of people speaking the dialect that these tribes speak or ethnic groups that are closely related to them. It better that we work together as one and heal our wounds; look at how Yoruba's and Igbo's are doing well and being recognized all over the world but we fail to understand that these two ethnic groups are God's divine gift to Africa and the black race. Its better we understand this now. They see us as Threat That Y Dey r using that means to make us More Vulnerable |

mpowa: Probably the most enlightened Igbo man I've come across, how I wish there will be more Igbos with mentality like yours and this Nation will finally move forward. America is a nation with Varieties of ethnicities, even Race, but they lived together in unity, that is called CIVILIZATION, but here, we want to hold on to issues of 60 yrs ago, 100yrs ago - Nobody or no country moves forward, looking at the REAR-Mirror. Enlightenment seem to be the problem with most Igbos |

Atk1nson: U mustn't use what happens in your village to generalise. A Lot Of Inter tribal marriages occur in Lagos involving Igbo men. I don't see the sense is striving for a landlocked country with hostile neighbours and lot of internally displaced place. Igbos are likely to be most affected because they are the most travelled and dispersed in Nigeria.
Many of you talking war know nothing of it, my grand dad while he was yet alive told me of the horrors of the biafran war and how they had to live in the bush because of constant air raid. He also made spoke of the atrocities fellow Igbo con mitted using the chaos during d war as cover. The story is d same if u speak to any elderly Igbo man. All we want is a fair nigeria, and not a race or religion thing. Hope u know Yoruba Men are more common with inter-tribal marriage than Igbo |

amunites19: I believe it would have been easier for igbos to actualise their biafra if to say they did not give up during civil war.
But now their main problem is SS region because SS now has oil and will not allow igbos to master them, and now SS has more power and rich people than igbos. The only option for igbos is if they got oil and SS trust them.
But me personally I don't see anything that Nigeria will loose if igbos go, but is always stronger togather. Am even Thinking of Nigeria dat can capture Niger, Benin, Togo.. Splitting makes nation Highly vulnerable |
