Politics / Senate Pushes For Diaspora Voting In 2019 by chapatti24: 7:25am On Dec 30, 2016
Nigerian Senate Pushes For Diaspora Voting In 2019 - I believe our senators are beginning to take a proactive role in politics. As far as i am concerned, this new move by our senators regarding Diaspora Voting In 2019, is a good move. According to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, there is move for Diaspora voting in the coming general election which will be holding in 2019.

According to the Chairman, Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, while speaking to NAN in New York, US, said that giving franchise to Nigerians abroad would give the impression that “they are part of the system.” and also give them a sense of belonging. According to him, “The first thing that we must do is for Nigerians to have their rights to cast their votes irrespective of where they are. The simple reason is that, If they cast your vote, that makes you a part of the system,” she said.

Most at times, so many persons seek financial help either from their uncles, brothers friends or relatives in the hope that when they have huge money, success in business is sure. But the real deal here is that money does not make you a successful; business man. Kiyasoki in his book “ Rich Dad Poor Dad” said that “ more money does not make you rich”. Politics / The Nigerian Judicial System, Challenges And The Way Forward by chapatti24: 10:50pm On Dec 22, 2016
The Nigeria Judicial System, Challenges And The Way Forward

We will be discussing extensively on the Nigeria Judicial System, its Modus Operandi, its challenges and way forward. It will suffix me to at least analyse a little background of the Nigerian Judiciary.

Books and research have endowed us with lots of proven facts that the Nigeria Judiciary arm of government as it where, have been vested with the responsible of interpreting the law of Nigeria. When having a critical look at the job description of the Nigerian Judicial system, even the blind would visualize it that it is a very important task vested on them. The reason for this is that, the same laws been interpreted by this arm of the government is the bases upon which judgment are made. For this reason, interpretation of laws should be done with all manner of soundness, meritocracy, and serious alacrity.

The Nigeria Judicial System, Challenges And The Way Forward

Now let’s look into the Nigerian judicial system properly. According to facts, the Nigerian Judicial System is made up of what is referred to as ‘the Body of Benchers’ and ‘the Bar’ itself.

For the Body of Benchers as it where is a collection of the highest ranking legal practitioners in the country. And this body is headed by the Chief Justice of the Federation. The council of Benchers also have her members which is the representative of the Chief Judges of the Federation and also very reputable lawyers located in the country.

For the body Bar, this is a body every barristers located in the country. As it where, every one of the barristers, in the country do make up the ‘Nigerian Legal Class’. We are not just here to talk too much on the formation of the Judicial system but how it has fared in pursuing her roles as a law interpreting arm of the government.

The very reason for the judicial system is that, it most times become the last resort for the citizenry of the Nation if the excesses of the Executive and Legislative arms of government are not checkmated. And this is the reason why the judicial system should ensure equity to the maximum level.

For the purpose of knowledge, we must understand that the primary duty vested on the Judiciary is to ensure that the Executive and Legislative arms of government do not function outside their powers which should be within their constitutional provisions which have already been made .

One hindrance to this function have been the fact that the Nigerian Judicial system have been tempered with times without numbers with political class in the society. In the real sense, the Judiciary should in stand isolation while they perform their constitutional responsibility. But what we have currently is the reverse because the Nigeria Judicial system since its appointments comes from the Executive arms and must be sanctioned by the Legislatures, have in one way or the other been sentimental in their judgments.

What The Nigerian Judicial System have been experiencing based on challenges to contend during the dictatorial military have been total abject emasculation to the extent that it lost the substance to its name and only existed as a nomenclatural entity. And finally, the Nigerian Judicial System, sank into the great abyss.

All thanks to the democratic dispensation that have reopened the corridor of organized judicial system to have the capacity to be a watchdog to the polity of the Nation.

Politics / Nigeria’s Economic Recession. 2017 Budget As An Exit Strategy by chapatti24: 10:21pm On Dec 21, 2016
Nigeria’s Economic Recession. 2017 Budget As An Exit Strategy.

Before we dive into the aforementioned topic, we need treat what exactly an Economic recession means. According to what I did study in the university, An economic recession has been defined as a sharp decline in the gross domestic product (GDP) for two or more consecutive quarters. For GDP has been defined as the market value of all goods and services produced within a country in a given period of time.

If this be the case, Nigeria has been experiencing this situation for some time now.

No doubt about the fact that Nigeria as at now, is experiencing recession the worst the country have experienced. Well, we will be taken a holistic view on how the 2017 Budget will be an exit strategy. But before then, we need to analyse how did Nigeria actually found herself in this situation.

According to experts, “when a Nation refuses to plan ahead, it falls into mess as serious as this”. A nation that fails to plan, have already planed as it where. The current economic woes the Nation finds herself was not caused today by the present administration led by President Buhari that will be a lie if ever we say so. The lack of financial plan by the last administration was a prerequisite for the dire situation we are today.

We all remember that during the administration of Jonathan, oil went higher and Nigeria whose crude is the most valued among in international market sold a barrel for a very high significant cash but due to wide spread of corruption, that very administration could not give account for the wastage.
Factors that Cause Recessions

Now we need to analyse some basic factors that must have led to the current financial situation today.

We have what we call the High interest rates which are is a very huge cause of recession because these high interest rate do limit liquidity, or the amount of money available to invest.

When a country starts experiencing an increased inflation. From definition we could tell that Inflation refers to a general rise in the prices of goods and services over a period of time. That is to say that as the prices of goods increases, the percentage of goods and services that can be purchased with the same amount of money decreases. That is exactly what Nigerians are finding themselves currently. Where a bag of rice is sold for N27 thousand naira.

Reduced consumer confidence. In this scenario, If consumers do believe that the economy is bad as we have it in Nigeria, they are less likely to spend money because of the fear that it might not come back to them. This is the exact scene we are facing here in Nigeria. Experst do believe that consumer spending can have a real factor on the economic situation of the country though Consumer confidence is psychological.

Reduced real wages,. This means that a worker might be making money which he do makes before but his paycheck is not keeping up with inflation. This means that his purchasing power has been reduced drastically. This might also lead to inflation.

Investment / MMM Nigeria Has Not And Will Not Crash – Mmm Nigeria Guiders by chapatti24: 3:12pm On Dec 18, 2016
MMM Nigeria Has Not And Will Not Crash – mmm Nigeria Guiders – There have been lots of panic ever since the rumour that mmm Nigeria will be crashing any moment from now went viral. But, for those who must have had their cash still running in the system have been advised to chill and relax that MMM Nigeria Has Not And Will Not crash says mmm Nigeria Guiders.

Though it will be very funny counting hopes on people in the name of guiders, just as my friend puts it, “these guys don’t own mmm Nigeria”. Well according to the promoters of MMM Nigeria, who are known as Guiders have come out to encouraged Nigerians who are participants of the system to remain calm regarding the one month freezing of all accounts of the scheme which according to them is a measure adopted by mmm itself to ensure sustainability and stability of the scheme.
If you are just following mmm Nigeria, let me quickly analyse what mmm Nigeria stands for. In a short statement, The system have to do with the Providing of Help (PH) which entitles you to Getting Help (GH) also.
Though this period which all accounts have been frozen should have been the best time to actually get help but the system have decided to do things otherwise.

They also said that the accounts will continue to grow with a 50% more benefit on the amount staked or provided (PH). The guiders took to the MMM Nigeria website to douse tension and provide explanations on the one month account freezing. Read full explanation below: “Good morning Mavrodians. What we are seeing now is the only practical measure to protect MMM Nigeria from danger. “A lot of news of MMM crash this December has been on the social media and other news and gossip. This has really affected the system. There were heavy conspiracies by financial institutions to collapse the system. What happened to the system last week would have been worse if GH is allowed today. Despite the holiday bonus, many participants were ready to GH today. The PH is not commensurate to the GH and this is the fear created by sponsored fake news. “The truth remains that the mavros in the system are safe until they are unfrozen.
According to the guiders, for those who must have Provided Help (PH ) in the system have been advised not cancel their help indicator in the system because since all green mavro are frozen for the now, their is no way PH will be paired. “For those who understand the system, they should know that what has happened is just a temporary measure which have been designed to save the system. Well, for me, if saving the system means saving the peoples money, then its a good deal. They asserted that If the system allowed to GH to participants by next week there may be no enough PH to pair the GH then the worst will happen. “This is a kind of caution taken to avert danger. So our mavros are safe. I encourage those who want to PH to still do their PH.
The reason they also gave for this is that the maturity in January will not actually change anything because by then the system will be back and even stronger.
In their very words, one of the guiders have this to say. “Don’t lose hope, all of us have mavros in the system and let’s not use because of this little set back forget what MMM has done for us and will do more if the system is safeguarded. “He also went further to say that he personally felt the same way as you but it’s better to save the system than lose everything. “Some people are complaining why the Guiders were not informed and my response is, if the Guiders were informed the system will crash in less than 10mins of the information.”
“The way you received the news is the way we Guiders received the news but we have the training that such thing may happen if there is evidence of danger ahead. This show how firm and protective MMM is structured.” “Let’s be optimistic and positive. This is our community, let’s protect it”.
We all can still recall that it was MMM Nigeria Guiders who did identifiy themselves as Guider DonVal Amaechi and Guider Philip Awazi that sent the shocking message to all mmm Nigeria participants. On a Tuesday morning, members of the mmm woke up with a shock message displaying on their screens indicating that all access to requesting of fund, (Getting help) had been frozen till January 14. This caused panic and confusion among the over three million member participants of the scheme.
I am not against mmm Nigeria and will not be against the. But there are lots of questions that needs to be asked regarding mmm Nigeria. Why did mmm actually invade Africa? why has the scheme not start operations in Russia where its founder comes from, why did it start from America the world most develop Nation? Why Africa?
Recall that it came into Nigeria when the country started experiencing recession. People should be very careful with these kinds of investment because many people do not even read instructions before they start to invest. The instruction says that on no account should you use your hard earned cash but your free and leisure cash so that when refuses to come on time, you won’t be stranded at any cost. But many have refused to adhere to this instruction. But we have heard from a realiable source that mmm Nigeria will start getting people help as from January 14th 2017.

Well, that not minding, we will be discussing in a little detail Nigeria Under APC Rule. Before the democratic era, Nigeria actually had some good times under the dictatorship of the Military though it recorded more corruption than what we have seen in the democratic era.apc-flag

Nigeria as a Nation have not fared relatively well under the APC Regime. Many people have ascribed the current economic woes the country is facing to the present regime. In fact whatever hardship the country faces today as far as Nigerians are concerned is caused by either President Buhari or APC. Is this really true? If you have the opportunity to hear the defense mechanism being employed by the current administration, you will be amaze at the level at which the ordinary Nigerians have been taken for granted.

They will tell you that the current economic hardship the country is experiencing was the mastermind of the previous administration led by For president Goodluck Jonathan. If this is true and maybe true, are we going to suffer for the failures of the past? If actually they felt PDP failed, why did they not allow them to repeat just as the former first lady asserted?

To me, the flop of the first regime should not be a yardstick for the current failures of the present administration. We have seen situations where former regimes fails and current ones do well. How did Nigeria find themselves in this kind of situation where we have to buy a bag of rice for N27.000, the price of dollar as at today is N475 to a Dollar. How bad can that be? I remember reading a book where it was stated that a Dollar cost three naira that was in 1979. That’s what we are talking about. How did the Nation find itself in this dire situation?

APC, have not fielded questions Nigerians have thrown to them. They have not been able to answer us the questions we are asking. At a point, Nigerians chanted “ Bring back our corruption” That’s how bad it has gotten. Buhari for me should not make the fight against corruption the main stream for his administration. He should remember that many people are suffering and the fight against corruption has not been of help to the ordinary man on the street.

If we are to analyse the fight against corruption, there are some eye catching questions that ought to be raised. For example, the broom stick that chases past and present corrupt officials, does that same broomstick not chase after those corrupt persons in APC? All the persons that have been caught, tried by the EFCC, have all come from the opposition party. None have come from APC. Why if I may ask? Is there any APC member that have not tested from the plate food of PDP? Only a few can be singled out. The likes of Oyegun, Baba Fashiola, and Ahmed Tinubu. These are the few who have from the onset never been a PDP member.

We have come to realize that as long as you are not under the umbrella of PDP, the Broom of APC will not sweep you. Recently, we have been seeing mass exodus of persons from PDP to APC. For me, these ones are those who are either escaping the fear hand of APC or are looking for quick political portfolio which they could only get from being an APC member.

In conclusion, my desire is to see a great Nigeria. Not a Nigeria that can’t be flexible to changes. The resources we have in this country both human and non human are vast that no man can comprehend. We are in a situation where the fight against corruption and the neglect for the people’s demand has turned the country into a place where survival by any means has become the order of the day. Fraud today, stands triumphantly in the midst of merit.

Corruption by as defined by the former President of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan, does not involve stealing in the public sector. In fact according to his words “ Stealing in the public sector is not corruption” this he said while fielding questions from Aman Pour of CNN.

Surprising? Yeah. I was shocked myself to hear of it. Anyway that’s what we have when we decide to make our choice of selection sentimentally. Nigeria in the eyes of the outside world is corruption personified that is how bad the situation have become. In Nigeria, corruption have eaten into the fabrics of every sector. Be it public or the private sector. Whatever the case maybe, Nigeria have already become a place where anything can happen so long you can wet the ground (Bribery). According to a Nigerian Comedian “ Nigeria copied 419 from the western world but as at today, if they from which we copied corruption sees us, they stand at attention and salute us” Funny as it may sound. But that’s the extent to which it has gotten.naija-flag

Much appreciation will be giving to the present president for his fight against corruption. Despite the said success to combat corruption, the country is still hitched to the nemesis of her failures in the past to combat the excesses of corruption. Various regimes have showcased their vigor to fight the excesses of corruption that have for been crippling the economy of the country. Examples can be drawn from the regime of Obasanjo who introduce The ICPC ( Independent corrupt practice commission) and EFCC (Economic Financial Crime Commission).

The question to ask now, How have these institutions fare in curtailing corruption both in the public and private sector? Though these institutions have done their bit, but we still can’t ascertain the true effectiveness of these institutions. There are still some areas where we can see their effectiveness. The likes of Tafawa Balogun the former IG of police who was arrested for stealing 1b naira by EFCC. For Bayelsa state governor Alameiseagha who was also arrested and jailed till he was released by his former employee President Jonathan on a presidential Pardon.

These are just few of the persons who were charged to court and arrested. When a thief is caught on the road side, he is either burnt to death or jailed for 20 years. But for those who steals public money, they only jailed for maximum 3 years.

There are some cases that have kept us awed. That’s the James Ibori case. The former governor of Delta state who was accused of stealing Billions of dollars, built private refineries in other countries, was declared free of all charges labeled against him to the surprise of the entire country. All thanks to the court of England who extradited him from UAE, arrested him, charged him to court and prosecuted him for the same offenses the Nigeria court have initially freed him for. That’s to tell you that, these financial institutions have top political appointees who do influence their decisions. The Ibori case was a show of shame to the Nigeria Judicial system.
