Day of Atonement, Hebrews 9 A small boy was consistently late coming home from school. His parents warned him one day that he must be home on time that afternoon, but nevertheless he arrived later than ever. His mother met him at the door and said nothing. His father met him in the living room and said nothing. At dinner that night, the boy looked at his plate. There was a slice of bread and a glass of water. He looked at his father’s full plate and then at his father, but his father remained silent. The boy was crushed. The father waited for the full impact to sink in, then quietly took the boy’s plate and placed it in front of himself. He took his own plate of meat and potatoes, put it in front of the boy, and smiled at his son. When that boy grew to be a man, he said, “All my life I’ve known what God is like by what my father did that night.” And we also know what God is like by what Christ did on the cross. The cross reveals a powerful story of the magnitude of God’s love and grace. In the Old Testament, after a priest went into the Holy of Holies on the Day of Atonement, he came out with a “good thing” for the nation of Israel. He brought one year of forgiveness. But when Christ came out of the “greater tabernacle” ( Heb. 9:11-12), He brought a better thing — a lifetime of forgiveness, a one-time sacrifice that would never need to be repeated, a new relationship with God the Father that was based on reconciliation (Rom. 8:1), and many more blessings, whose realization is yet to come (cf. Rev. 21-22). Now on THE (final) Day of Atonement (the day of Jesus death on the cross), Jesus’ sacrifice was made with blood. But the blood on that day was a better blood than the blood of bulls and goats. The Old Testament sacrifices provided atonement, but not permanent atonement because they were only shadows of the reality to come. Those sacrifices were inadequate because they provided a blood of a different kind — they were not appropriate equivalents of human life. But the blood of Jesus was free from sin’s curse (Rom. 8:22), it was given voluntarily (Heb. 9:14), which no animal ever did, and it was done one time for all time (Heb. 9:12). As significant as the Old Testament sacrifices and Law were, they were inadequate because they could never clean the conscience of a man. For as pure as an animal might be, even an animal could not be inwardly clean. So the best an animal sacrifice could do was provide external cleansing. But Christ’s blood dealt with the ultimate issue — He removed not only the defilement, but the source of the defilement (Heb. 9:13-14). Because of His blood, believers in Him are free to worship and serve God with a cleared, non-condemning conscience. And because He was without blemish, we can be made blameless (Eph. 1;4; Col. 1:22). There is no forgiveness without (perfect) blood. And there is no atonement without (perfect) substitution. Christ Jesus provides both. Source: https://saviourstep./2015/08/08/a-better-sacrifice/ |

What do you do if you aren’t praying? How do you stimulate yourself to pray when you are disinclined to pray and don’t pray? Everyone battles the temptation not to pray. The flesh resists prayer, no matter how much we say we want to pray (which is why Jesus told the disciples to keep watching and praying when they were tempted to sleep, Mk. 14:38). Here are a list of some questions I keep in the back of my prayer journal to examine my heart when I am not praying or when I am tempted not to pray: * Am I “too busy” to pray — exchanging the important for the urgent? * Am I too distracted by the non-essential? * Am I spiritually dry? Have I neglected feeding my soul with Scripture? * Am I being prideful and self-sufficient? Do * I believe (as evidenced by my actions) that * I can work without God? * Am I too bitter or angry to pray? * Have I failed to forgive the sins of others (Mk. 11:25)? * Is sin (i.e., my own sin) keeping me from praying? * Am I too ashamed to pray (e.g., Gen. 3:8; Heb. 4:13)? * Am I content with mediocrity, so that I don’t feel the necessity and importance of prayer? * Am I too lazy to pray — unwilling to do the hard work of laying a foundation of prayer for my life with God? * Am I ungrateful — and because I am ungrateful have slipped into believing that * God is irrelevant or unnecessary? Those are some of my questions that I use to exhort myself to quicken my prayer life. What are some self-examination queries that you use? Last week, i wrote about “5 Reasons why you should always pray in the morning” https:// saviourstep./2015/07/11/5- reasons-why-you-should-always-pray-in- the-morning/ In case you missed the thread: http://nairaland.com/2443135/5-reasons-why-should-always Today, am writing on “What To Pray For One Another” In one of the shortest verses of the Bible, believers are instructed to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thess. 5:17). The believer is not only to pray regularly and habitually, but prayer is to constantly be at the forefront of his mind. He is to be always ready for communication with His Lord and Master. And Paul models that readiness when he says to the Romans, “…unceasingly I make mention of you, always in my prayers making request…” (Rom. 1:9b-10a). Paul informs his readers that he is regularly remembering them, and he not only remembers them by name, but he remembers them by praying for them, making requests and interceding for them at God’s gracious throne. This is not only the life of the apostle, but this is the life of every believer. This is how every Christian should conduct himself. Praying for others is not the work of super- Christians or the specially gifted alone. It is the work of every member of the body of Christ. We work in the church body, in part, by praying for one another. Yet when we pray for one another, we may also find ourselves at times repeating the same prayers by rote and without thought. So how do we cultivate vital and meaningful prayers for others? Here are two suggestions: 1. Ask others how you can pray for them. Ask them what their needs are, what their joys are, and for what they are thankful. Take notes and put those notes into a prayer journal. And then pray with that person before you leave him. 2. Pray the prayers of Scripture for others. You may not be aware of some people’s individual needs (as Paul certainly wasn’t when he was writing to Rome from Corinth) . Yet you can use the requests that the Scripture writers make for others to form the basis of your own prayers. Some time ago, I read through Paul’s letters and made note of many of his prayers to use as a stimulant for my prayers for others. Here is that list: * Romans 1:8-12 * Romans 10:1 * Romans 15:5-6 * Romans 15:13 * 1 Corinthians 1:4-9 * 1 Corinthians 16:23 * 2 Corinthians 1:3-7 * 2 Corinthians 2:14-16 * 2 Corinthians 12:7-9 * Galatians 6:18 * Ephesians 1:15-23 * Ephesians 3:14-21 * Ephesians 6:19-20 * Philippians 1:3-6 * Philippians 1:9-11 * Philippians 4:23 * Colossians 1:9-14 * Colossians 4:2-4 * 1 Thessalonians 1:2-4 * 1 Thessalonians 2:13-16 * 1 Thessalonians 3:9-13 * 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24, 28 * 2 Thessalonians 1:3-12 * 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 * 2 Thessalonians 3:2-5 * 2 Thessalonians 3:16 * 1 Timothy 1:12 * 1 Timothy 2:1-4 * 2 Timothy 1:3-7 * 2 Timothy 1:16-18 * 2 Timothy 4:22 * Titus 3:15 * Philemon 4-7 * Philemon 25 And that is a list only from Paul’s letters! Many other prayers also exist in Scripture, that inform us how we can pray for others. But more than just accumulating prayers for others, let us actually do the hard work of praying for each other Source: https://saviourstep./2015/07/18/what-to-pray-for-one-another/ |

herald9:Bro, is not as if God don't know his work again. But remember in Bible (Matt 7:7) He told us "Ask, and you will receive; seek, and you will find" So prayer is a kind of asking and Thanking Him is a kind of appreciation. Thanks for your understanding and God Bless You. |

I have noticed that 80% of people don’t pray when they wake up in the morning because of one reason or the other. So i decided to write about it. You may see someone roaming around internet till 1.00am just chatting. When the person later went to bed, waking up in the morning to pray will be problem even if the person wake up, he/she will not remember that they is something like prayer. This because they don’t know the reason why they should pray in the morning before doing anything. Remember that Prayer is the Key to open success. So, here are 5 reasons why you should always pray. 1. To Thank Him For Keeping You Alive. I think this is the first reason because is not all the people that slept last night make it the next morning. I have heard about many unending stories about people dying without even any atom of sickness. Make it a point atleast to thank Him. 2. For Protecting You And Giving You Health. Many people have been attack in their dream, many have been initiated into occult world in their dream. You don’t know the people that is having meeting because of you in their kingdom. Many people wake up with different types of sickness. But God protected you from all. 3. For Him To Protect You From Any Hidden Danger During The Day. (Psalm91:3-4) Yes, He already promise to keep us safe during the day. But we need to remind Him that through prayer. Am sure you have been hearing of many fatal accidents happen this days and till some people survive it. Nobody know what will happen during the day, So always make it a point to pray for protection. 4. For Him To Provide For You During The Day Here is another point for you to pray in the morning. As we always pray “Give us this day our daily bread”. Is good for you to say this prayer every morning to keep it as a reminder for Him. I know that you are aware that they are some people out there that can’t even afford #5 for pure water. But you are here enjoying. 5. For His Goodness, Protection Upon Your Family and friends. Here is the final Point for now because there are still many other reasons. Praying for your family and friends in the morning have an important rule to play in their life during the day because we don’t know what would have happen to them if not your prayer. ==Pray without ceasing. ==Prayer is the key to unlock heavens gate ==Pray and watch so that you will not fall into temptation. As youths it is a hard act to follow Christ because of the many forms of entertainment we are bombarded with in our present world, which often express views and values that are contrary to the God’s word and his will for us. Sadly enough youths still look for happiness within the technological and scientifical confines of our present world. This ultimately can be frustrating because we end up doing evil to satisfy our fresh. If we cannot conceive of happiness beyond this world and see ourselves as journeying through life, we’ll be tempted to despair. Some of our Youths worldwide negate faith in God mainly because of the proliferation of different technological advancement and scientifical discoveries which is the trend and is made manifest in the 21st Century, these has gone a long way to shape and define the current generation of youths. We shouldn’t allow environmental changes shape us, we must always seek God’s face: change our mindset of these cravings for evil purpose and cultivate the spirit of love and peace with as we relate with one another. Bible Quote: Though we are in the world, we are not of this world. It is sad to note of that many of oya youths spend many hours seeking the things of our present world, while the practicing catholic youths spend few hours with God weekly when they attend Mass on Sundays. Its simply not enough to spend one or two hours a week seeking God’s face, we must set aside quality time in our lives for praying else our ‘FAITH’ dies. Faith is a gift form God. According to the biblical passage of Matthew 16:13-20, Peter confessed that Jesus is the Christm the son of the Living God, Jesus declared to him this revelation did not come from ‘flesh and blood’ but from ‘my father in heaven’. Faith is supernatural virtue infused in us by God. The Grace of God and the interior help of the Holy Spirit are prerequisite for Faith. Faith is not just a belief rather its a personal encounter with Christ. “Faith does not just mean accepting a certain number of abstract truths about the mysteries of God, man, life and future realities, it consist of an intimate relationship with Christ, a relationship based on love for him who loved us first”(1 John 4:11). In its deepest essence, faith is the openness of the Human heart to the gift of God’s self revelation in the Holy Spirit. The heart is the depth of one’s being, where one decides for or against God (ccc.368). As youths living out our faith in today’s world entails humility, a non judgmental attitude to every one and clarity in opinion, but always willing to listen and above prayer. Christ should be our guiding light. When a youth manages to reflect just a glimmer of Christ’s glory, God sends his Holy Spirit and Grace. Our faith has to be kept alive. This requires personal effort. Yes! Faith is not an isolated act; as we have received the faith from others, so too shall we hand it to others. Hence, our live for Christ must move us to tell others about or faith. We must cooperate with the numerous opportunities which have been placed before us to grow in faith as well as to share this great asset. We can enrich our faith by meditating on God’s word (Holy Bible), praying frequently, and doing good to our neighbours who ebe they may be. We must beg the Lord, like the apostle to increase our faith. When we live in faith, then we shall be enlightened by the Holy Spirit so that we can discern the things of God and share the faith to countless people we meet in the world. Therefore i enjoin all youths to be prayerful and be firm in faith, because prayer applied faith. True prayer is well within the reach of every Christian youth. “Seek me not in far away places; I am very close to you”. Also St Jones Vianney gives us insight into the simplicity of prayer: “Contemplation is gaze of faith, fixed on Jesus. I look at him and he looks at me”. The focus on Jesus purifies our hearts and teaches us to see everything in the light of truth and his compassion for all men (ccc.2715). When we pray, we are not trying to change God’s mind but aligning our wills and intentions with his. Pray always and do not “Liquidise” your faith in Jesus Christ.
