Asisat proving her mettle
SportsAsisat Oshoala Foundation Gets Lagos State Support by cheapgoals(op): 5:31am On Nov 16, 2017
The Lagos State Government has given an ample justification on why the state has been in total support of Nigerian female football international, Asisat Oshoala and her project, the Asisat Oshoala Foundation.

The Special Adviser on Sports, Deji Tinubu to Lagos state governor Akinwunmi Ambode said that the state recognizes how the former Liverpool and Arsenal forward built up her career from the grassroots and rose to stardom.

Tinubu added that for the Dalian Quanjian FC forward to turn out with an establishment to help aspiring female youngster in Lagos, proves that she is a woman of substance who meant well for the society that made her, and her accomplishments over the years are something worth celebrating.

Speaking at the football clinic: "His Excellency, Governor Akinwumi Ambode recognizes the contribution Asisat has made to football in the country and Africa as a whole. More importantly that she an indigene of Lagos also gives us the joy to want to support her and her pet project Asisat Oshoala Foundation.

"The ongoing Asisat Oshoala/Lagos State Secondary Schools Girls Football Clinic is a good programme we see as a platform to train and show the girls what they can do with football. She was at the Teslim Balogun Stadium when she hosted Lagos secondary schools students to 'Meet and Greet Asisat event' on Monday. On Tuesday, she went to Epe Grammar School where she trained the girls and at the end of the day she gave them certificates, jerseys, and other gifts. On Wednesday she came to the Teslim Balogun Stadium where another round of training was organized for the girls.

"The programme will be rounded off with the launch of her foundation where the First Lady, wife of the Governor, Her Excellency, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode will be present.

"We see Asisat as a mentor and role model for a girl child in Lagos.  Looking at her humility and the way she rose to the top if she can be a role model for these girls it would go a long way in shaping their present and the future. Since the clinic began on Monday, she has been mentoring these girls, speaking with them about the need to take their education seriously. These we believe would definitely shape their life.

"She has been mentoring the girls and sharing her life experiences and what it took to get to the top. She also spoke about the need to take their education seriously, become responsible and disciplined and prepare for the challenges of life, Tinubu stated

It has been more than 12 years since a Nigerian player and indeed a Nigerian Clubside won the CAF Champions League. In fact, since Enyimba’s consecutive triumph on the continent in 2003 and 2004 against Ismaily SC of Egypt and Étoile Sportive du Sahel of Tunisia respectively, only Heartland FC of Owerri have managed to grace the final ever since 2009 when they lost to Tp Mazembe on away goals.

However in the final played on November 4 between Wydad Casablanca of Morocco and Al Alhy of Egypt, two Nigerians were on each side as they looked to become the first Nigerian in over 12 years to win a CAF Champions League medal.
While Al Ahly had former u23 international Junior Ajayi in their front line, Wydad Casablanca’s Chisom Chikatara wasn’t involved as the Moroccan side went on to win their 2nd Caf champions league title on a 2-1 aggregate, thus making him the fourth Nigerian to win the Caf champions league with a foreign club.

4. Chisom Chikatara – Wydad Casablanca (Morocco ) 2017

Kolanut boy as he is popularly called, has so far endured a torrid 2017 season as he has been on the sidelines for a long period which has made him miss most of the current campaign, however this didn’t stop him from getting a Caf champions league winners medal as Wydad beat Al Ahly of Egypt to the trophy for only the 2nd time in their history and first time in 25 years.

Chikatara gained prominence after he gaining promotion into the NPFL with Abia Warriors in the 2013 and his goalscoring exploits secure his entrance into the 2016 CHAN team where he scored 4 goals despite Nigeria crashing out in the group stages and caught the eyes of his current employers.

SportsIntl Friendly : Nigeria Humbles Hapless Argentina In A 6 Goal Thriller by cheapgoals(op):
Alex Iwobi bagged a brace as Super Eagles fought back from 2-0 down against a star-studded Argentina to secure a stunning 4-2 friendly victory in Krasnodar.

The shocking turnaround came after Banega's 28th-minute free-kick gave Argentina a merited lead - yet they needed help from goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi to break the halt.

In the wake of poking the ball outside his own penalty spot, a thoughtless Akpeyi inquisitively enabled Aguero to rapidly close the gap, forcing the Manchester City forward to lift it up to prevent humiliation.

Akpeyi didn't escape punishment for his blunder, as Ever Banega curled the subsequent free-kick into the net.

Aguero doubles it eight minutes after, tapping home Cristian Pavon's low cross from the right, and at that stage, Argentina was drifting. Iheanacho's free-kick in the first half gave them hope and the 2-1 result on the scoreboard did not last long after the break.

After the break, Nigeria changed their game-plan to try to overturn the contest. Said and done, Argentina suffered the wrath of the Super Eagles with two goals in very short succession.

Iwobi leveled the game after 52 minutes. The Arsenal forward puts away Iheanacho's pass into the box to the Argentine's dismay.

However, there was more to come. Two minutes later, it was 3-2 to Nigeria. Idowu finished off a fast-passing move to send the Nigerians into delirium.

Super Eagles were wild and only 90 seconds after the fact they were in front. A fresh, brisk move finished with Iheanacho patching on Idowu, and the substitute twisted the ball into the corner with his initial touch.

The Nigerian's third goal incited a series of changes from Sampaoli and accordingly the rhythm of the game was upset to some degree.

Argentina was getting a charge out of the lion's share of possession, however, La Albiceleste kept on looking dangerous with a lot of pace on the counter-attack.

73 minutes into the game Nigeria extended their lead and Iwobi got his second goal of the night. Ahmed Musa worked the ball into the Arsenal forward inside the territory, and the Arsenal forward shimmied past confused Mascherano before placidly firing past Marchesin to make it 4-2

Nigeria starting XI (5-3-2):

Akpeyi, Shehu, Troost-Ekong, Balogun, Awaziem, Aina, Wilfred Ndidi, Mikel, Ogu, Iwobi, Iheanacho.

Argentina starting XI(3-3-3-1):

Marchesin, Mascherano, Pezzella, Otamendi, Banega, Perez, Lo Celso, Pavon, Dybala, Di Maria, Aguero.

Ahead of Russia 2018 World Cup, Argentine Football Association ( AFA ) has reported that La Albiceleste will start their preparation for next summer's Mundial with a prominent exhibition against Russia and  Super Eagles with the two games coming up in Russia.

The friendly clash against the three-time African champions is billed for November 14 and will be played at FC Krasnodar stadium which has an estimated capacity of 34,291.

However, as at now the Nigeria Football Federation is yet to officially announce the new development

Super Eagles has faced the South American giants in four of the five World Cups Nigeria have participated in since 1994, losing on each occasion, an odd goal inspired by Diego Maradona to Claudio Caniggia beating Nigeria 2-1 with Samson Siasia scoring Super Eagles lone goal and Gabriel Batistuta 63 minute goal in Korea/Japan 2002 World Cup gives the Argentines another sweet triumph over Super Eagles

In South Africa, Gabriel Heinze's 6th-minute headed goal ended up being the winner in their group opener against Nigeria, while Ahmed Musa brace sees Super Eagles to a 3-2 loss to the two-time World-Cup holders at Estádio Beira-Rio.

Meanwhile, Nigeria recorded a 4-1 win over the La Albiceleste in a friendly match played in Abuja in 2011, which proves to be the only win the African side had against the South American giant.

SportsArsenal Closing In On £60m Nabil Fekir by cheapgoals(op): 2:25pm On Nov 13, 2017
Arsenal is reportedly closing in on a £60m club-record deal to sign Olympique Lyonnais playmaker Nabil Fekir. The North London club have been increasingly linked with the 24-year-old lately as they consider conceivable replacements for Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, both of whom are out of contract toward the end of the season.

Should Arsenal managed to push through to sign the playmaker in the January transfer window, they could let Sanchez and Ozil leave with a specific end goal to avoid losing both on a free transfer.
