Lobi Stars technical adviser, Godwin Koko Uwua has come to express his dissatisfaction on the mid-week matches, as he says the games are not good for Nigeria football. Godwin Uwua said that the sole organisers of the Nigeria Professional Football League(NPFL) should have put things into consideration before applying the mid-week games into the league system. He complained about how fatigue sets in for the players and also the frequent travelling from one region to another to play league games within two days on bad roads is completely tiring. The Benue based club suffered a humbling defeat to MFM in the Matchday 3 game of the NPFL in Lagos on Sunday before returning to Makurdi to host ABS and thrash the Ilorin based outfit 3-0 in the Matchday 4 on Wednesday. Speaking to SportingLife, Uwua stated that: “We thank God that we won our match against ABS. But I must tell you that the long journey is really affecting how we play our games. Mid-week football is not good for us and not everything you see that you copy. You have to understand that our roads are bad. And we have to travel for league game within three days interval, it is not good at all,” He also speaks about his time in SouthAfrica, to where he coaches Free State Stars and helps the team secure promotion to the ABSA Premier Soccer League in 2007. “In South Africa, any journey that is more than three hours is by air. In England, which they are taking travel by air for any match that is more three hours because of jet lag. We traveled about 12 hours to Ibadan for 3SC game on Sunday and it really affected my team’s performance, and we had to travel to Markurdi the following day to play against Kano Pillars on Wednesday. The following morning, we were on the road for another 13 hours journey to Lagos for MFM game. It is not easy and not good for our football. The distance covered is not favourable. We are doing something we don’t understand. Tomorrow (Friday) we will be on the road again to Port-Harcourt to play against Rivers United on Sunday. For how long are we going to continue with this?,” Uwua lamented. http://cheapgoals.com/uwua-mid-week-games-are-killing-us |
A renown sports philanthropist Frank Momoh has called on Nigeria to give full support to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president Amaju Pinnick's bid to secure a seat in CAF executive committee. The CAF Committee election which has been fixed for March with the NFF president representing the West Africa Zone B seat against fellow neighbouring Benin Republic's Anjorin Moucharafou, who defeat former NFF chairman Aminu Maigari in 2013. Frank Momoh, who is known for promoting grassroots football, athletics, wheelchair basketball and several sports believes Nigerian football would benefit massively if Pinnick secures a CAF Executive seat.Speaking in Lagos Yesterday, Momoh said: mom “Pinnick is one of the next generation of administrators, and his emergence as the NFF president two years ago has really brought great innovation and quality leadership to our football,” the chairman of FROT Group said. “He has the zeal and passion for the game, and I want Nigerians to rally around him in his bid to secure a seat in CAF. His membership will take African football to a greater level.” I know that Pinnick faces a herculean task because his opponent (Moucharafou) is vastly experienced, but with undiluted support from Nigerians, especially football stakeholders, he will triumph.Momoh added. However, the 2013 contest between former NFF chairman Aminu Maigari and Anjorin was a total run-off, as both candidates failed to get the stipulated 50% of total votes cast in the first ballot. Maigari having 19 votes to Anjorin 35 votes, while football lovers were of the opinion that the NFF chairman didn't get enough support before embarking on the Executive Committee seat. “I want Nigerians to know that no one is perfect in life, so they should forget some of the national teams’ setbacks and look at the many significant changes Pinnick has brought to our football in the last two years. He has so much to give, but he needs the support of everyone to build the house.” http://cheapgoals.com/caf-seat-momoh-solicit-massive-support-for-pinnick-s-bid

DR Congo secures a place in the last eight of the Africa Cup of Nation after thrashing Togo 3-1, while the defending champions were eliminated by Morocco in an enthralling encounter on Tuesday night. The Democratic Republic of Congo showed genuine interest in winning the game in 16th minutes as Afcon leading goal scorer Junior Kabananga unleashed a powerful shot. enough to break down the Great wall of China but Togo defence seems more stronger to withhold such thunderous effort. Togo failed to contain the mounting pressure from DR Congo and their silly errors in the midfield made them pay a steep price when Chancel Mbemba made a swift through-pass to Kabananga who then took no time to fired home to make it 1-0. Togo failed to contain the mounting pressure from DR Congo and their silly errors in the midfield made them pay a steep price when Chancel Mbemba made a swift through-pass to Kabananga who then took no time to fired home to make it 1-0. The second half rolled in on a high note with just 10 minutes after the start receiving a clear chance from Mensah poor clearance finds Marcel Tisserand, who then set-up a pass to Firmino Mubeleb to lob the ball over Togo goalkeeper to double their lead. Togo's opportunity came in minutes later as they pull back a consolation goal in the 69th minute when Substitute Kodjo Fo-Doh Laba slotted in the ball to make it 2-1 DR Congo responded back in the 80th minutes to sealed their victory when Paul -Jose Poku fired home a free-kick just outside the box and finalising the game to 3-1, the Leopards will take on Group D runners-up in the quarterfinals on Sunday. Meanwhile, Ivory Coast looked unsettled throughout the game as the North African side pressed the defending champions in the first few minutes while the Elephants were just wasting up their precious chances The second half didn't seem to help Ivory Coast settle well int0 the game as a wonderful strike from Rachid Alioui put Morocco ahead in the 70th minutes, things descended into pushing and shoving as the defending champions stuck in a rut. Rachid Alioui's long-range shot was just enough to eliminate Ivory Coast and continued the bad re-occurrence of Afcon champions unable to defend their title in the last four tournaments, or not making it to the tournament. Nigeria as a case study didn't qualify in 2015, while Egypt winners of the 2010 African Cup of Nations failed to qualify in 2013, Chipolopolo went out without winning a game in 2013 and now the Elephants also failed to win a single match. DR Congo and Morocco’s quarter-final opponents will be decided on Wednesday as They join Burkina Faso, Tunisia, Senegal, Cameroon, and Ghana in the knockout stages. http://cheapgoals.com/afcon-dr-congo-progress-defending-champions-ivory-coast-bow-out
