Malaysia
These countries were selected based on the quality of their universities, relevance to energy-related research, and existing academic partnerships with PTDF. Applicants must select their courses strictly from the approved list on the PTDF scholarship portal.

Applying for a programme not listed on the PTDF portal — even if it appears relevant — can result in automatic disqualification.

UK PhD Scholarships and the Split-Site Model

For PhD applicants intending to study in the United Kingdom, PTDF continues its split-site PhD model for 2026. Under this structure, doctoral research is conducted partly in Nigeria and partly in the UK.

The approved UK partner universities for this model are:

Robert Gordon University (Scotland)
University of Strathclyde (Scotland)
University of Portsmouth (England)
PhD candidates will split their residency between these universities and Nigeria’s College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK). This approach allows scholars to remain grounded in local industry challenges while benefiting from international supervision, facilities, and exposure.

Application Timeline and Deadline

Applications for the 2026 PTDF Overseas Scholarship close on 27th February 2026. From the publication date, applicants have approximately six weeks to complete and submit their applications.
