A few days after taking over as acting Director- General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Calistus Nwabueze Obi, has been replaced by the Executive Director Finance and Administration, Haruna Jauro, The Punch has reported. Nwabueze Obi took over from the former Director-General of the NIMASA, Dr. Patrick Akpobolokemi, on Tuesday, following a directive from the Federal Government that Akpobolokemi should hand over to the most senior officer. According to the newspaper reports further that Jauro took over the reins from Nwabueze after a protest against Akpobolokemi to the Federal Ministry of Transport and Office of the Head of Service of the Federation. In his petition, Jauro was said to have claimed seniority over Nwabueze. Though Nwabueze Obi, Jauro and the Executive Director, Maritime Safety and Shipping Development were all appointed by former President Goodluck Jonathan on July 24, 2012, Jauro claimed his seniority from the fact that he resumed duties at the Maritime House 24 hours ahead of the others. There was no official confirmation from the Deputy Director and Head of Public Relations, Mr. Isichei Osamgbi, as his phone number was said to be switched off. Enugu—THERE is confusion in Enugu State following the claim by the National Broadcasting Commission [NBC] that it had successfully blocked the illegal Radio Biafra from operating and consequent seizure of its transmission equipment in some parts of South-East zone as well as some arrests made. Although police authorities in Enugu State claimed ignorance of any arrest, it was reliably gathered that an engineer working for the station based in Enugu had been picked up by men of the Department of State Security DSS and taken to Abuja. Residents in the State are however confused because some of the ardent listeners to the station claimed that the station was still operating in skeletal form. State police command’s spokesman Mr. Ebere Amaraizu told our reporter last night “I am not aware of the arrest and parading of the Radio Biafra suspects. Not to my knowledge”, he stated. NBC’s Director General, Emeka Mba had said in Abuja last week that “we are working with security operatives, the Commission has also tracked down, neutralized and confiscated transmitter equipment from several locations in the region. The Nigerian Army has confirmed the death of 50 persons in two separate bomb explosions in Damaturu, Yobe, on Friday morning. A statement issued on Friday in Abuja by the acting- director of army public relations, Sani Usman, a colonel, said the explosions occurred at screening areas of the Eid prayer ground. According him, many other persons were injured in the explosions suspected to have been masterminded by insurgents. “This is to confirm that there were two suicide bomb explosions today at about 7:40 a.m. in Damaturu, Yobe, in which two female suicide bombers – one elderly woman and a ten year-old girl - detonated the devices,” Mr. Usman said. “It occurred at screening areas for intending Muslim worshipers at Layin Gwange, Damaturu and at Phase1, in front of former state secretariat, Damaturu.” He said 43 persons died in the first explosion while seven people died in the second explosion. The army spokesperson assured the public that the relevant authorities had brought the situation under control. He assured that no amount of terrorist act would deter the Nigerian Army’s resolve to stamp out terrorism and insurgency. Mr. Usman said Gov. Ibrahim Geidam of Yobe and the Chief of Army Staff, Maj.- Gen. Tukur Buratai, had called on the residents of the area to stay calm and be security conscious. However, the police in Yobe state said 15 people were killed. A police spokesperson, Toyin Gbadegeshin, made this confirmation when he spoke to journalists in Damaturu. “The total number of death casualty is 15 persons,” he said. Mr. Gbadegeshin said no one has claimed responsibility for the attacks; even though many residents had no doubt that it was an attack by Boko Haram terrorists. Witnesses in the area, including a police officer who did not speak officially, had claimed that the attacks were carried out by two little girls. Earlier reports from a source in a hospital at Damaturu had confirmed 10 dead. . All this manipulation. Why sell your votes? It was funny when the votes were always 95% in favor of one candidate. Now, the joke is on you. Always make your votes count so that you do not manipulate your way into power. By the way, why not wait for his ministerial list to come out. Besides who ministerial appointees help
