President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Tolu Ogunlesi, a journalist, as his Special Assistant on New Media. Officials at the presidency told PREMIUM TIMES Mr. Ogunlesi has undergone security screening and his appointment is to be announced in the coming days. Mr. Ogunlesi is one of Nigeria’s most active Twitter users, and was clearly in favour of Mr. Buhari’s election in the 2015 general elections. He will be the Buhari administration’s social media anchor, a role played by Reno Omokiri for former President Goodluck Jonathan. Mr. Ogunlesi describes himself as a poet, photographer, and fiction writer. Before his appointment, he was a freelance writer, contributing articles to various publications, mostly abroad. He also syndicated opinion articles in many Nigerian newspapers, including PREMIUM TIMES. Mr. Ogunlesi, who trained as a pharmacist, worked as Features Editor for the defunct 234NEXT newspapers. In 2009 he was awarded the Arts and Culture prize in the annual CNN Multichoice African Journalism Awards. He won the CNN award again in 2013 in another category. He was also shortlisted for the inaugural PEN/Studzinski literary prize. Mr. Ogulesi tweets via @toluogunlesi and has 143,000 followers. Claims that President Buhari made anti-Igbo comments during an interview on the BBC Hausa Service are lies, according to a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity Garba Shehu. The recent accusations were made on the pirate radio station Radio Biafra, which was supposedly shut down by the Nigerian government two days ago. However, the latest reports say that the radio station continues to broadcast in the southern part of Nigeria. According to the statement Radio Biafra’s broadcast was “completely false, malicious, and slanderous.” The statement added that, “the voice being ascribed to President Buhari in the recording repeatedly played back by the pirate radio station is definitely not the President's and the claim that the station got the recording from a BBC interview is totally untrue.” According to Mr. Shehu, “The BBC Hausa Service Editor, Mr. Mansor Liman has distanced the BBC from the false interview clip being ascribed by the pirate radio station to President Buhari.” The full statement can be read below: STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE CLAIM THAT PRESIDENT BUHARI EXPRESSED ANTI-IGBO SENTIMENTS IN BBC INTERVIEW COMPLETELY FALSE AND MALICIOUS The claim by a pirate radio station that President Muhammadu Buhari expressed anti-Igbo sentiments in a recent interview with the BBC Hausa Service is completely false, malicious and slanderous. The voice being ascribed to President Buhari in the recording repeatedly played back by the pirate radio station is definitely not the President's and the claim that the station got the recording from a BBC interview is totally untrue. No one should be deceived by the pirate radio station's hate propaganda against the President. President Buhari has not had any interview with the BBC's Hausa Service since his assumption of office as alleged by the agents of disunity behind the pirate radio station's inflammatory and divisive broadcasts. The last interview he had with the BBC Hausa Service, lasting not more than five minutes, was on the day he was declared winner and given his certificate of return as President-elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission. Thankfully, the BBC Hausa Service Editor, Mr. Mansor Liman has distanced the BBC from the false interview clip being ascribed by the pirate radio station to President Buhari. President Buhari is the President of all Nigerians and will continue to treat all citizens on the basis of fairness, equality and equity. Nigerians should therefore ignore all propaganda designed to sow seeds of discord among them and promote a separatist agenda against national unity, solidarity and progress. Six Nigerian nationals extradited from the authorities of South Africa have extradited six Nigerians to Mississippi, United States to face multiple fraud charges. According to a media note made available to our correspondent in New York yesterday, the accused persons were extradited from South Africa to Gulfport, Mississippi, to face a nine-count federal indictment in the Southern District of Mississippi alleging various Internet fraud schemes. The media note further indicated that a total of 20 defendants are being charged in this case. The Assistant Attorney General Leslie R. Caldwell of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division and U.S. Attorney Gregory K. Davis of the Southern District of Mississippi who signed the media note gave the names of the extradited Nigerians as Oladimeji Seun Ayelotan, 30; Rasaq Aderoju Raheem, 31; Olusegun Seyi Shonekan, 33. Others are Taofeeq Olamilekan Oyelade, 30; Olufemi Obaro Omoraka, 26; and Anuoluwapo Segun Adegbemigun, 39. They were charged along with 15 others in an October 7, 2014 indictment with conspiracy to commit mail fraud, wire fraud, bank fraud, conspiracy to commit identity theft, use of unauthorized account access devices, theft of U.S. government funds and conspiracy to commit money laundering. The charges stem from the defendants alleged participation in numerous Internet-based complex financial fraud schemes, including romance scams, re- shipping scams, fraudulent check scams and work-at-home scams, as well as bank, financial and credit card account takeovers. According to the allegations in the indictment, from as early as 2001, the defendants identified and solicited potential victims through online dating websites and work-at-home opportunities. In some instances, the defendants allegedly carried on fictitious online romantic relationships with victims for the purpose of using the victims to further certain objectives of the conspiracy. For example, the indictment alleges that the defendants convinced victims to ship and receive merchandise purchased with stolen personal identifying information (PII) and compromised credit card and banking information, to deposit counterfeit checks, and to transfer proceeds of the conspiracy via wire, U.S. mail or express delivery services. Meanwhile, other defendants like Teslim Olarewaju Kiriji, 30; Olutoyin Ogunlade, 41; and Dennis Brian Ladden, 75, have been convicted of offences relating to their roles in the schemes while defendants Susan Anne Villeneuve, 49; and Genoveva Farfan, 45; Sesan Olumide Farin, 40; Femi Alexander Mewase, 44; Rhulane Fionah Hlungwane, 24; and Adekunle Adefila, 40, are awaiting trial. Apart from these people, the United States is seeking extradition from Nigeria of defendants Kayode Bamidele, Ajayi Oluwaseyi Stephen and Emmanuel Adeniyi Osokomaiya over their roles in the criminal acts while defendants Gabriel Oludare Adeniran and Oduntan Sikiru Lawani remain fugitives. This case is being investigated by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. Significant assistance was also provided by the Criminal Division’s Office of International Affairs, the HSI Cyber Crimes Center, HSI Attachés in Pretoria and Dakar, U.S. Marshals Service’s International Investigations Branch and the Southern District of Mississippi, the South African Police Service (SAPS) Directorate of Priority Crimes Investigation (DPCI) Electronic Crimes Unit, the SAPS Interpol Extradition Unit, the South African National Prosecution Authority, and the South African Department of Justice and Constitutional Development. The case is being prosecuted by Trial Attorney Robert Tully of the Criminal Division’s Organized Crime Gang Section and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Annette Williams and Scott Gilbert of the Southern District of Mississippi. ABUJA – President Mohammadu Buhari on
Monday said that his government will not totally
discard the amnesty programme for Niger-Delta
region but will build on the good aspects of the
Programme.
This is even as he assured both foreign and local
investors of his readiness to implement far-
reaching reforms which he said will boost
accountability and transparency in Nigeria’s oil
and gas industry.
Buhari spoke at a meeting with senior officials of
Chevron led by the company’s President for Africa
and Latin America, Mr. Ali Moshiri at the
presidential villa, Abuja.
The president also promised to effectively address
the myriad of challenges in the sector.
“We understand the situation in the industry and
we will do our best to address the challenges
affecting exploration, production and distribution
of oil products in the country,’’ the President told
the delegation.
A statement by the Senior Special Assistant to
the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam
Garba Shehu stated that president Buhari
acknowledged that the Amnesty Programme was
initiated by President Umar Yar’Adua to reduce
violence in the Niger Delta region.
The statement added that “his administration will
also implement other measures to enhance
security in the Niger Delta and optimize
investments in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.”
Speaking earlier, chevron president, Moshori urged
President Buhari to restore the confidence of
international investors in the industry even as he
“identified improved security in the Niger Delta as
key to increased investment in the oil and gas
sector in Nigeria.”
According to him, “Chevron which has 36.7
percent interest in the West African Gas Pipeline
Company Limited, was keen to support Nigeria’s
gas sector and bring more electricity to Nigerian
consumers.” Source: www.vanguardngr.com/2015/07/we-ll-strengthen-amnesty-programme-buhari/ |

"I don't know the meaning of Subsidy". ~Buhari This Agbaya can lie sha!!!! |
The Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El- Rufai, Monday called for the scrapping of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, saying that the corporation has over the years constituted itself as a parallel government. Speaking at this year’s Wole Soyinka Media Lecture series to mark the 81st birthday of Professor Wole Soyinka, in Abuja, Mal. el-Rufai also advocated the privatisation of the nation’s four refineries and the removal of fuel subsidy by the Buhari administration. According to El- Rufai, with the ‘death’ of NNPC, it would allow for the coming on board of a brand new Company that would be commercialised and Capitalized, adding that the action has become imperative against the back that NNPC has over the years constituted itself as a parallel government, a country on its own, with Nigeria another country different from the Corporation. He disclosed that the account of the NNPC was last audited in 2005, and also accused the NNPC of remitting only about 58 per cent of the money it earned between 2012 and the first half of 2015 to the federation account. His words, “The long and short of the situation of our oil industry is best exemplified by the parallel government called the NNPC. In 2012, it sold N2.77 trillion of ‘domestic’ crude oil but paid only N1.66 trillion to the Federation Account. “In 2013, it earned N2.66 trillion but paid N1.56 trillion to FAAC, in 2014 N2.64 trillion but remitted N1.44 trillion, while between January and May 2015, it earned N733.36 billion and remitted only N473.2 billion. “That means that the NNPC only remitted about 58 per cent of the monies earned between 2012 and the first half of 2015. A company with the audacity to retain 42 per cent of a country’s money has become a veritable parallel republic. “If we do not kill NNPC, NNPC will kill; Nigeria. Any organization that takes 50 per cent of federation revenue for itself and gives you the change has no right to exist. It is evil, it must die, it is just the manner of the death that we must talk about. Source: www.vanguardngr.com/2015/07/if-we-dont-kill-nnpc-nnpc-ll-kill-us-el-rufai/ |
