The Lagos State Government has reacted to the shooting at the Lekki toll gate on Tuesday night.

The incident happened following the declaration of a 24-hour curfew in the state.

In a statement signed by the state’s Honourable Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu advised security agents not to arrest anyone because of the curfew.

Sanwo-Olu also urged Lagosians to remain calm and ordered an investigation into the incident.

“There have been reports of shooting at the Lekki Toll Plaza, following the 24-hour curfew imposed on Lagos State to stop criminals who hid under the #EndSARS protests to unleash mayhem on innocent citizens.

“The State Government has ordered an investigation into the incident.

“Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has advised the security agents not to arrest anyone on account of the curfew, which he urges residents to observe for the peaceful atmosphere we all cherish.

“He advises Lagosians to remain calm and not allow criminals, who have hijacked the noble protest of our gallant youths, to succeed in their evil plan of turning our dear state upside down.

“The Governor will do everything within his power to ensure that the lives of all Lagosians are protected at all times.”

Popular cleric, Rev Uma Ukpai, has attacked all groups including the Indigenous People of Biafra and the Movement for the Actualisation of Biafra, calling them mad people.

According to TheNation, Ukpai spoke in Uyo, headquarters of his ministry.

The Abia-born cleric condemned agitations for Biafra by the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

He maintained anyone agitating for Biafra only confirms the level of his or her madness, adding however that everybody is mad, the difference only being in the level of madness.

“There will always be crazy people, even when people are seen to be normal. Whoever is agitating for Biafra shows the level of his madness, but everybody is mad, the difference is the level of your madness,” he said.

The Cleric, who assessed Nigeria at 60, said he is disappointed there are still divisive elements holding the country apart.

According to him until Nigerians begin to love and respect another, it would not make any meaningful progress.

“In Nigeria we are all in a hurry to reach where are going to, so much so that we have no regards for others, no time for others and no love for others.

“As a nation until we love one another, we cannot notice one another, only when we love that which we have, that we can develop. But in Nigeria, we don’t care whether others eat or not.If we have no respect for one another, it also mean we don’t care whether others exist or not,” the cleric lamented.

Reacting to clamour for restructuring by General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and the controversies it generated, Ukpai said: “I don’t think that he (Adeboye) is not entitled to his opinion.

“He is a man of God and he must have seen what happened during the civil war, which would guide him in the deductions he made. But to me, everybody is entitled to his opinion.”

Police in Washington, D.C., USA, are currently searching for two men who shot and killed 23-year-old Nigerian man, Alexander Nwogu, at a gas station on Monday, October 5, 2020.

The Virginia Tech graduate who in May said he had taken a consulting job at Ernst & Young in Northern Virginia, was found dead after someone called police to report the shooting at about 1:30 a.m.

He was found in the 4900 block of Connecticut Avenue Northwest, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Nwogu graduated with a bachelor’s in industrial and systems engineering from Tech in May, 2020.
