Hollywood actress, Lydia Clarke Heston, who is the wife of Charlton Heston, has been reported dead.
According to Fox News, the news of her death was confirmed by her son, Fraser, in a statement released on Wednesday.
Heston, who was married to the late Oscar-winning actor for 64 years, died on Monday from complications due to pneumonia.
The statement read: “She lived an amazing life. At 95 years old she knew a lot of famous people from John F. Kennedy to Nancy and Ronald Reagan.
“My mother was very active in the civil rights movement and even marched with Dr. Martin Luther King. She had a great love for photography and has travelled all over the world. She was prone to sea-sickness, but she sailed every sea in the world”
Heston is survived by son Fraser and daughter Holly, and their grandchildren Jack, Ridley and Charlie.

Former vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has revealed what will happen should President Muhammadu Buhari refuse to leave office in an event he is defeated in 2019.
Atiku, a presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, said if President is defeated at the polls, he will have no choice than to step aside.
According to him, any refusal to step aside and handover power peacefully will plunge the country into political crisis, a situation the President may not want.
Speaking on a short interview on Pulse TV, the ex-Vice President said, “Buhari will have to leave power if he is voted out unless he wants to plunge this country into political crisis and I don’t believe he’ll want to do that.
“But so far, he has done badly as far as electoral processes are concerned because there have been serious breeches of fundamental electoral processes.
“I felt there was a need for someone like me who’s experienced in politics; experienced in governance; experience in business to try and restore and bring back the country on track as far as economic development was concerned.”

Death toll from a Boko Haram attack on a Nigerian army post on the border with Niger has risen to 48, military sources said today.
Scores of Boko Haram fighters in trucks stormed the base on Thursday in Zari village in northern Borno state and briefly seized it after a fierce battle.
Boko Haram, which has been waging a deadly insurgency in Nigeria since 2009, has intensified attacks on military targets in recent months.
At least 30 Nigerian soldiers were intially said to have been killed in Thursday's raid.
"The casualty toll now stands at 48 with the recovery of 17 more bodies of soldiers in surrounding bushes in Zari by search and rescue teams," a military source who did not want to be named told AFP.
"Search operations are still ongoing and more bodies are likely to be recovered."

A 27-year-old gang-rape survivor who set herself and her 12-year-old son on fire yesterday died in a hospital at Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur this morning. The woman was admitted to hospital with 95 percent burns. Her son, who suffered about 15 per cent burns, is stable.
In a dying declaration, the woman has alleged that the police refused to register her gang-rape complaint and the same men gang-raped her again on August 18.
The woman's husband told the police that he was not at home when she set herself on fire.
The couple had allegedly been trying to have a case of rape registered against three men from the village at the local police station for over a month. The police had refused to file a First Information Report, the husband alleged. Instead, they allegedly pressured the family to take money from the accused and arrive at a compromise.
Three policemen have been suspended and a criminal case has been filed against them.
"A government official managed to record her dying declaration. The husband of the woman has filed an FIR now and one person has been named. That person has been arrested by us. We are taking more steps based on the dying declaration," said Shivasimpi Chanappa, the police chief of Shahjahanpur.
He said the police officer in charge of the station and two sub-inspectors have been charged because they knew about the case but did not act.
According to reports, the woman was first gang-raped about six months ago by three men from her village. The attackers threatened to kill her child if she told anyone.
The woman finally told her husband about a month ago and the couple went to the police, who refused to act. She was allegedly attacked again by the accused.
The UP administration is already facing criticism over its handling of the Unnao rape case, which surfaced in the public glare after the teen rape survivor attempted suicide outside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's home in Lucknow. The teenager said the police had refused to take any action on her complaint against a BJP lawmaker, Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who was finally arrested amid public outrage.

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has admitted sending a petition to the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) on Falz’s ‘This Is Nigeria’ song.

It will be recalled that following the release of the video for ‘This is Nigeria’ by Falz earlier in June, the Muslim group had issued Falz with a seven-day ultimatum to withdraw the song or face legal actions.

The group subsequently withdrew the ultimatum following widespread reactions from the public. News, however, emerged on Thursday, August 9th, that the NBC have placed a ban on the song and the group has now regained its voice.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has revealed the outcome of his meeting with the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kwara State.
The Minister said that all the three senatorial district chairmen of the PDP in the state gave him confidence that Saraki’s days in dominating Kwara politics are limited.

Mohammed said that he has received support from the State Chairman of the PDP and party leaders in the three senatorial districts in the state.
The Minister said this while fielding questions from reporters in Lagos on the future of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state following the decamping of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and others to the PDP.

Kwara PDP Chairman, Iyiola Oyedepo and members of the party dumped the party for the APC immediately Saraki and others decamped.

Mohammed said, “To answer your question, I think APC can only go stronger in Kwara State because what we are witnessing today is like a liberation, and from the support I have received so far, including the entire leadership of the party, led by the Chairman, Akogun Oyedepo Iyiola, who met with me and the National Chairman with 17 other leaders, including Prof. Oba Abdulraheem, Sen. S.S. Ajibola, all the three senatorial district chairmen of the PDP in the state, gives me confidence that Saraki’s days in dominating Kwara politics are limited.
“What we have today is some members of the APC decamping to the PDP.

“I say some members because many members have refused to go. But we have gained more from those who say rather than stay in the same party with Saraki, they would rather come to the APC.
“As far as the people of Kwara State are concerned, it was as if finally, the state was being liberated.

“The excitement today in Kwara State is akin to how Nigeria felt on the eve of independence.

A mysterious package with a message for President Donald Trump set off alarm this week after falling from the sky into a field of solar panels south of Bedminster, New Jersey, where the president is vacationing.

The package, a square white box attached to a red parachute, landed in the field in Kendall Park on Tuesday just before noon - about 20 miles as the crow flies away from the president's golf course. If that weren't strange enough, the package had a handwritten message scrawled on the side: "NASA Atmospheric Research Instrument NOT A BOMB! If this lands near the President, we at NASA wish him a great round of golf."

And it was making a hissing sound, police said. Employees at the solar panel field told officers that they were concerned.

"We just had a package - I'm not making this up - parachute onto my site," one of the callers said in a recording published by NBC 4. "There's a note on the side that I find disturbing. It references something about the president."

The Akwa Ibom state government has described Senator Godswill Akpabio’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as “playing God”.

Speaking on Akpabio’s defection move, the commissioner for information and strategy, Charles Udoh, said the former governor does not have any convincing reason for leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

NEWS has it that Udoh said several people would have followed Akpabio to the APC if the lawmaker had cogent reasons for defecting.

‘’Akpabio’s leaving the party is all about choices. If you talk about respect, Governor Udom Emmanuel is somebody would not use a foul language on anybody. In public, he calls him sir, my mentor,” the commissioner said.

At least 50 people, including several children, were killed and scores injured in Thursday's air raid on a bus in Saada.

Grief and anger has gripped Yemen's war-ravaged province of Saada a day after the Saudi-UAE military alliance, backed by the US, bombed a school bus carrying children heading to a Quran class.

Al Masirah, a pro-Houthi TV network, said at least 50 people, including dozens of children, were killed in the attack which struck the bus as it was approaching a crowded market in Dahyan city.

Johannes Bruwer, the head of a delegation for the International Committee of the Red Crescent (ICRC) in Yemen, said in a Twitter post that according to local officials, 77 were also injured.

"Of these, the ICRC hospital in Al Talh received 30 dead and 48 injured, of which the vast majority were children."

Mohammed Jabber Awad, the governor of Saada, told Al Jazeera that the bus was carrying 30 students, but as many as 60 people may have been killed in the raid.

According to the ICRC, one of the few humanitarian institutions helping civilians in the country, all of the children who were admitted to its hospital were under the age of 15...

You could recall that the issue of effect of radiation of metal object like handset to human body has been talked on for a long time but most people take it as a joke.

A molecular discovery could explain why some cases of breast cancer do not respond to radiation therapy. It could also lead to additional treatments that improve the response in those cases.

The researchers found that when levels of a tumor suppressor protein called phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) were low in a type of breast tissue called stroma, it increased the likelihood that exposure to radiation would trigger tumor growth.

They also found that blocking another molecule called epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) might be a way to reduce the risk.
The authors suggest that specialists might be able to use levels of PTEN in breast stroma as a biomarker to predict which breast cancers are most likely to respond to radiation treatment...

The federal authorities allege that a former youth care worker at a Phoenix-area facility for immigrant youths sexually abused eight teenage boys, one of several cases brought to light in recent weeks as thousands of immigrant children remain detained around the country. Court documents show Levian Pacheco faces several charges stemming from incidents that allegedly took place between August 2016 and July 2017 at a Southwest Key facility in Mesa.

The case was first reported by ProPublica. Authorities charge that Pacheco performed sex acts on two boys and touched six others, all between ages 15 to 17 at the time.

"One of the boys decided to speak up about what had happened to him, and then it was kind of a snowfall where another boy — the roommate — spoke up that it also happened to him," Michael Grabell, one of the ProPublica reporters who uncovered the details of abuse at the Southwest Key shelter, told News Agency.

Court documents also state that Pacheco is HIV-positive and that some of the teens opted to be tested for the virus...

A pregnant woman from Southern Alberta was served cleaning agent instead of her ordered latte at a McDonald's drive-through in Lethbridge in United States.
Sarah Douglas, a mother of two, was on her way to a baseball tournament with her son when she decided to stop at the facility for a coffee, The Star reported.

The first sip was enough to tell Ms Douglas that something was wrong with the drink. She immediately stopped to spit the toxic drink and decided to go back and complain.

On filing a complaint, she learnt from the staff members that two cleaning lines were linked to the coffee machine.

Ms Douglas was taken to poison control after she contacted Alberta Health Services.

The former Governor of Jigawa State and presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Sule Lamido, on Tuesday, called on Nigerians to flush out President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 for a better, secure and prosperous Nigeria.

Lamido made the call at the Government House in Jalingo when he led his presidential campaign team to consult with the governor, the government and the people of Taraba State in continuation of his tour of the country ahead of the 2019 elections.

According to him, Nigerians had seen the light and would be in a better position to make a real change in 2019.

He said, “We must flush out what is called Buhari for a better, secure and prosperous Nigeria in 2019.

“I want to condole with you over the killings in Taraba. It is unfortunate that Buhari has turned this country into killing fields and today we have to contend with killings in Plateau, Benue, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kaduna states and other parts of the country, yet the President is not bothered that people are being killed on a daily basis.

The 83-year-old former Great British Bake Off judge showed off her drumming skills during Astley’s Camp Bestival gig on Friday night.

A video posted on social media shows Berry keeping the beat while Astley croons the chorus to his song Beautiful Life.

News has it this morning that the Benue State House of Assembly is currently under lock as there was a heavy invasion of armed men at the entrance of the complex.

Although there has been no information as to why the armed men which are believed to be from the opposition party were deployed.
Reports reveal that “the detachment of armed Mobile policemen are from Abuja, Nasarawa and Benue.”

There is a general belief that the opposition wants to reinstate the sacked speaker of the house, Rt Hon Terkimbi Ikyange, hence the reason for the barricade.

Recall that Ekiti Assembly recently suffered the same feat.
Also recall that the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom has just decamped to the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.

Determined to end the logjam over its governorship ticket for the September 22, 2018 election in Osun State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has mandated a former President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, to immediately talk to warring contenders who have remained adamant over their demand that Senator Ademola Adeleke be stripped of the ticket to pave way for peace.

Mark, it was reliably learnt, has been asked to stoke the raging fire among the major stakeholders, especially the aggrieved aspirants and party elders including the camp of Senator Adeleke, winner of the controversial party primary conducted on July 20.
Though details of the mandate could not be established as of press time, our correspondent learnt that the move was meant to stave off further crisis that could jeopardise the chances of the party at the poll.

A source said some major interests in the raging controversy met on Saturday at an undisclosed location, ostensibly to fine-tune their demands preparatory to the reconciliatory meeting with Mark.

PDP has already forwarded the names of Adeleke to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which is expected to publish on Monday the list of all candidates for the election.
The development came as business mogul, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi is said to be under intense pressure to drop his agitation over the result of PDP primary and seek alternative political platform to prosecute his gubernatorial aspiration.

Sen. Murray-Bruce’s tweet cited Sen. Melaye’s brother as he claimed the Kogi lawmaker was abducted in his state on his way to answer his court case.

He wrote, “I have just been informed by Moses Melaye, @dino_melaye’s brother, that Dino has been abducted by unknown persons in a Toyota Sienna that blocked their car and overpowered them on their way to Kogi to answer to Dino’s court case. Lets be on the watch out. Will keep you updated.”

Sen. Melaye was among the 14 senators who defected from the APC to PDP on Tuesday.

The controversial senator is facing separate charges for allegedly aiding criminals and attempted suicide.
