A Urologist in the Department of Surgery at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, Anambra State, Dr. Cornelius Onuigbo, was abducted by gunmen on Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred at the gate of Onuigbo’s residence in Nnewi as he returned home from work.
Witnesses reported that the armed men intercepted him with their vehicle, forced him into it, and drove off.
One of the sources said, “The medical doctor was rounded up by some armed men, suspected to be kidnappers, as he was about to enter the gate of his residence. They had a few conversations with him after which they asked him to enter into their vehicle and drove off.

“No one knows the reason for the development, although the suspected kidnappers have not reached out to the family, but the family is already making an effort to secure his release.”

A staff of the university, who didn’t want his name on print, confirmed the development, saying, “The institution is aware of the incident and we are doing the needful. That is all I can say for now”.

The spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, also confirmed the incident.

“Yes, the command is aware of the kidnap. We have already mobilised for the rescue of the doctor. The commissioner, CP Obono Itam, has given orders for this, and men of the command are currently at work,” he said.

thanks for the information, we need constructive criticism for better growth in Anambra But I expected u to report the abducted Dr.'s release the following day... Since the abductors could not withstand the heat. Ur failure to report the following development makes it look as if u are celebrating sad news from this end.

While we commend Anambra State security structure, we challenge them to do more. The gospel truth is that the entire southeast and Nigeria at large is not safe. But we are not taking any excuse because Anambra have to standout as first class state.

While Peter Mba and Alex Otti are the best in this regard, the others are not doing badly.

I have my reservations about Hope Uzodimma and Chukwuma Soludo and as much as they're not popular with the people, they're not actually doing badly.

I for one, i'm disappointed in Soludo because I thought he was the one person that will teach Igbo leaders how it's done and I disappointed as I am, he's not half as bad as some previous governors in the South East.

Let's not forget the era when we had characters like Ikeazu, Theo Orji, Orji Uzor Kalu and all the funny caricature that Imo state produced.

Well, it depends on your definition of development... I am talking about Soludo specifically. If you remove sentiment, Soludo is arguably the best performing governor in Southeast. I understand the fact that u hv to give ur governor a special place in ur rating but saying that Soludo disappointed u is more like a child's cry/crying more than the bereaved.

Anambra airport is the busiest airport in the region this season. You will noticed OMA motors now have a display stand in the airport. what a way to welcome visitors; speaking volume of Anambra State heritage, and pride.

Give Yorubas their flower on this one... Just that e get as e be say nah negative word all of them be... Is this what Nigeria have to sell to the world? No just that the white and their superiority complex will gladly push everything negative about Nigeria to spotlight.

Anambra is not planning to launch any airline but upgrading the airport to receive night flight instead.

Anambra Emerges Nigeria 4th Most Fiscally Independent State

The State of States report obtained from the BudgIT website shows that Lagos(2), Ogun(3), and Anambra(4) States follow Rivers State which is No1.

These are the only states that can cover expenses through internally generated revenue without dependence on FACC allocation.

Even the current embattled minister of works "Umahi" was made by Anambra men. Apart from Arthur Eze who single handedly made Umahi PDP candidate and governor, It may interest u to know that it took Gov. Willie Obiano to stand Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo state to make Umahi then chairman of south Eastern governor. A rotational position which rightfully belong to Ebonyi by turn but Owelle Rochas used his power and advantage as the oldest serving governor to contest it with umahi. This is why I pity the poor Ebonyi masses when their selfish/ungrateful political class mobilize them to point fingers at Anambrarians. U could be insulting ur destiny helper because those ur brothers misleading u can't help u either.
