Politics / Anambra Politics: Man Accused Of Rape In Topmost Contest To Be A Lawmaker by Chikiletta: 11:01am On Mar 07, 2019

Anambra State holds the record as the most complex political environment in Nigeria if not Africa, in no little part owing to the fact that it is home to numerous bigwigs, moneybags and highly influential individuals, all accomplished across every sphere of life.

This cocktail of ego, influence, exposure, money and power often comes together to surprise even Anambrarians with its end product

The latest surprise right now is the fact that the candidate of Young Progressive Party for Anambra state house of assembly, Obinna Ngonadi, who has been accused of raping his own cousin is currently campaigning to be a lawmaker, to represent Nnewi North LGA

Reports suggest that this candidate, son of a multi millionaire is currently flying the flag of YPP (Young Progressive Party) is linked as an associate of Dr Ifeanyi Ubah (Senator elect for Anambra South) who is also from Nnewi, as Ifeanyi Ubah has been publicly campaigning for this rapist to be allowed to represent the same people he desecrated their land by raping his own cousin and fathering a child from that abominable act which he abandoned and absconded to Europe between 2002 and 2003.

As the race heats up, the rest of Anambra State and indeed Nigeria, will be keen to see if this mighty land that has produced legends like Chief Cletus Ibeto, Sen Nwafor-Orizu, Dame Virgy Etiaba, Chief Cosmos Maduka (Coscharis), Dim Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu (Eze gburugburu), Chief Innocent Chukwuma (Innoson), Dr Ifeanyi Ubah (Capital Oil) and Prof ABC Nwosu, will allow such a despicable character to represent them in the Anambra State House of Assembly

It is also worthy of note that Nnewi is a very religious and pious society where all forms of intimidation, abuse and exploitation are frowned upon seriously and dealt with decisively.

The leaders of the political parties, who conveyed their stance to Gov. The representatives of the parties, who expressed delight that Gov. Ugwuanyi’s ideology and programmes were “in tune and in line with theirs”, told the governor that “you now not only fly the flag of the PDP but you also the flags of the other political parties”.

They added that “the various political parties at party level voted unanimously for your adoption”, saying: “With this development, the individual political parties have collapsed their campaign structures to team up with you as their sole candidate”.

Politics / INEC Chairman Accused Of Mounting Pressure On Rivers State REC by Chikiletta: 1:05pm On Feb 26, 2019
The National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu and the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of elections DIG Lakanu have been accused by sources within the Rivers State Government of mounting undue pressure on the Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Obo Efanga to re-inject earlier rejected results from 2 local Governments of the State.

Results from Emohua, Ikwerre, Okrika and Asari Toru Local Government Areas of Rivers State were rejected by the Commission through its respective Local Government Area Electoral Officers (EOs) who confirmed them to be concocted by the Military at gunpoint. Recall that Rivers State as well as other States like Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom, strongholds of the Peoples Democratic Party, witnessed undue militarization during the elections.

Elections had to be shifted in Akuku Toru local government area of Rivers State due to what many described as a near-war scenario that reportedly claimed not less than 15 lives including at least a military officer and an INEC official. In Okrika 4 Wards could not hold the elections because Election materials meant for them were hijacked by the military under the command of one Capt. Inuwa working with the Divisional Police Officer of the LGA, Nasiru Gambo. Capt. Inuwa was also accused of leading soldiers later in the same day to confiscate collated results from the Collation Center.

Similar scenarios played out in Emohua and Ikwerre LGAs, where the Election Officer claimed to have been abducted by the Minister for Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. The pressure allegedly being mounted by the INEC Chairman has been described as a complete travesty of democracy which is capable of undermining the credibility of the entire election. Sources in the know say Aso Rock is behind the moves to include the concocted results in order to shore up President Buhari’s electoral fortune to the mandatory 25% of votes in Rivers State.

“INEC Chairman has no business with deciding what the results should be. Has he become an interested Party in the election?” asked Barr. Oraye St. Franklyn, a Senior Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor. In the meantime, the Commission is yet to clarify on the veracity of the allegations currently eliciting wide condemnation by Nigerians.

Politics / Excitement As Enugu Gov’s Wife Donates Crèche To TUC For Nursing Mothers by Chikiletta: 6:14am On Feb 26, 2019
The wife of the Enugu State Governor, Mrs. Monica Ugwuanyi on Monday, donated a crèche to the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) for use by nursing mothers who work at the state secretariat, Enugu.

Inaugurating the crèche, Mrs. Ugwuanyi, stated that the gesture was borne out of her passion for the wellbeing of the people and proper upbringing of children.

The Enugu governor’s wife, who was accompanied by the State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo and other dignitaries, added that the facility was in keeping with the policy thrust of the present administration in the state to provide a conducive working environment for the workers of the state, including the nursing mothers.

“As a civil servant, I worked where most facilities were provided for workers, where you can relax or exercise yourself in a conducive and peaceful environment”, Mrs. Ugwuanyi stated.

She, therefore, urged the workers to make proper use of the facility for the overall benefit of the parents, children and state.

Speaking, the State Chairman of TUC, Comrade Igbokwe Chukwuma Igbokwe, commended the governor’s wife for her special interest in the welfare of women and children in the state.

Comrade Igbokwe noted that Mrs. Ugwuanyi has consistently used her pet project - Ugo Touch of Life Foundation to positively touch the lives of the vulnerable group, especially women and children.

He emphatically stated that Mrs. Ugwuanyi “was concerned about the rampant cases of molestations and other vices being perpetrated by nannies and house helps on children kept under their care”, expressing delight that the “TUC Workers Crèche is like an answered prayer for nursing mothers and would be nursing mothers in Enugu State Public Service”.

According to him, “Today is a day of joy for us, for it is indeed a dream come true for the congress. Aside from reducing the pressure of having to shuttle from office to day care centres and the inhuman treatments on our children, our nursing mothers and fathers can now relax and work knowing that the security of their babies is guaranteed.

“This development will in no small measure contribute to increase in productivity in the public service as over 60% of the State Public Servants are of child bearing age”.

In her speech, the Deputy Governor thanked Mrs. Ugwuanyi for her kind gesture to the people of the state.

She disclosed that as a civil servant prior to her election as Deputy Governor “I know what women in the service pass through in their efforts to breast feed and take care of their babies”.

Her words: “Our governor not only pays salaries on the 23rd of every month, he even gave us 13th month salary, now Her Excellency has added another gesture by providing this crèche. We can’t thank you enough Ma; we owe you a lot”.

Politics / Poll Observers Describe Enugu Elections As Peaceful, Transparent, Credible by Chikiletta: 7:56pm On Feb 24, 2019
Poll Observers describe Enugu Elections as peaceful, transparent, credible

…Debunk alleged irregularities by APC members

A coalition of accredited independent Observers for the Presidential and National Assembly Elections held in Enugu State, on Saturday, have expressed utmost satisfaction with conduct of the exercise in the state, describing it as “most peaceful, credible and free and fair”, devoid of “violence, irregularities, thuggery or snatching of ballot boxes”.

Speaking to newsmen at the Headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), during the collation of election results from the Local Government Areas, the Coordinator of Civil Society in Enugu State, Samuel Onoja, while reacting to alleged irregularities by some National Assembly candidates and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, stated that there is no iota of truth in the allegations.

Onoja said they were “shocked” by the alleged “fighting, thuggery, fake result sheets and all sorts of things”, stressing that the elections were “free and fair, transparent and peaceful”.

According to him, “the election in Enugu State has been free and fair. All the observers deployed to various polling booths, reported to me and we have not heard of any thuggrey, any snatching of ballot boxes. We have not heard of any problem.

“I think the election held in Enugu State is more peaceful and transparent than in any other state in this country because we went round the state such as Nsukka, Agbani in Nkanu and Aninri. All the places we went to, I don’t think there was problem anywhere. “INEC are people that we respect and I will say kudos to them because this is the best INEC we have seen so far in this country”.

When asked to comment on their general assessment of the election in the country, the coordinator said: “It is Enugu State that we have been posted to and it is only Enugu that I have observed the exercise, but from the report I received from other places, I know that there are places that there were little misunderstanding but I believe the INEC personnel, the SSS, the police and other security agencies did their job very well”.

Politics / Multiple Polls Predict A Definite Atiku/obi Victory by Chikiletta: 6:28pm On Feb 22, 2019
Many signs are pointing to an impending victory for the PDP Presidential Candidate Atiku Abubakar and his running mate Peter Obi; from focus group studies carried out by mainstream media and international research organisations to social media and online polls; the feedback has positive towards the ability of Atiku and Obi to deliver growth, provide jobs and began the urgent task of lifting a large number of Nigerians out of poverty.

In October 2018, The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the research unit of The Economist Magazine, predicted that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the upcoming 2019 presidential election. According to the magazine “The 2019 elections will be a close contest between the ruling APC and the PDP. We expect the PDP presidential candidate to win" “The next government is likely to be led by the PDP, the main opposition, potentially in a coalition with smaller parties".

Supporting this premise, Williams and Associates, the United States-based polling firm which predicted victory for Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 also predicted victory for Atiku Abubakar in the forthcoming presidential polls. The polling firm had arrived at its conclusion working with data collected across Nigeria by its operatives through face to face interviews and using multi-stage stratification proportionate to the population sample responders who were interviewed on their preferences in English and local dialects as appropriate.

These analyses and predictions have been received with a growing sense of optimism by Nigerians both home and abroad, swelling the support base of the former Vice-President who as the the head of the economy under the Obasanjo administration had been responsible for far-reaching economic reforms that lifted over 13 million Nigerians out of poverty and led to the opening up of other sectors of Nigeria's economy; especially banking and telecommunications.

As Nigerians go to the polls tomorrow, their sense of resolve to cast their votes for Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi of the PDP come with a sense of duty; that with their votes, they would be doing their part to lift Nigeria out of the doldrums and set it on a path where it once again becomes an enviable member of the comity of nations. By Sunday, when all polls would have been casted, counted and announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Nigerians are certain that they would have cause to dance and smile once more, as a new government that is equipped to bring Nigeria out of darkness would have been elected.

Driving by a petrol station in the country's economic capital, Lagos, this writer passed a commercial motorcycle (Okada) rider wearing a T-shirt with the inscription "Atiku Means Jobs"; for him and many Nigerian youths who have been without gainful employment, the promise of an Atiku presidency was an emotional and pragmatic one. And who would not agree with them?

Politics / Enugu 2019: Fear In Government House As Gov. Ugwuanyi Loses Control To Nnamani by Chikiletta: 2:20pm On Feb 22, 2019
Enugu 2019: Palpable Fear in Government House as Gov. Ugwuanyi Loses Control to Ex-Gov. Nnamani

There is serious tension in the inner circles of the governor of Enugu state, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi on the overbearing influence of his predecessor, Chimaroke Nnamani who governed the state from 1999 to 2007. They now have reasons to believe that the recent resurgence of Nnamani's political dynasty, 'Ebeano' group might hurt their chances of succeeding the governor come 2023

How it all started

Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani governed Enugu State from 1999-2007 and also represented Enugu East senatorial district at the National Assembly from 2007 to 2011. He fell out with Sullivan Chime, his successor whom he played a huge role in bringing to power and then joined the People for Democratic Change (PDC) where he contested and lost his bid to return to the senate in 2011. He the contested again on the same platform in 2015 and narrowly lost to PDP's Gilbert Nnaji in an election that he was widely believed to have won save for high scale irregularities.

Shortly after Nnamani failed to regain his mandate through the courts in 2015, chieftains the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by his former colleague from Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu came knocking, asking him to join them. On hearing this development, the Governor who was a beneficiary of his political dynasty quickly double crossed the APC chieftains and promised his predecessor heaven on earth if he makes a return to the PDP. Nnamani returned to the PDP two weeks after.

Gov. Ugwuanyi was said to have reneged in his first promise to Nnamani- to allow him (Nnamani) nominate the PDP candidate for Nkanu West Local Government Area. Instead the governor accepted a name from another ally, a federal permanent secretary, Chinyeaka Ohaa for the position. Nnamani was so disappointed that he cut off all ties with the governor and withdrew into his shell until a few weeks before the party primaries in 2018.

Nnamani's unassailable influence in Nkanu land (Enugu East Senatorial District) is already public knowledge and the All Progressives Congress (APC) tried to exploit the differences that exists between him and the governor by approaching and offering him the senatorial ticket but Gov. Ugwuanyi knowing that losing Nnamani to the APC might cost him his reelection bid, double crossed APC again, this time around offering him a 'blank cheque' to make up for his earlier disappointment. Nnamani again accepted the governor's offer.

Gov. Ugwuanyi offered not only to bankroll Nnamani's campaign but also accept nominations from him for two out of the three House of Representatives seats under Enugu East Senatorial District. This prompted the dramatic come back of Nnamani's close allies, Hon. Offor Chukwuegbo who was a two term member of the House of Representatives (Enugu North/Enugu South) and Mr. Nnoli Nnaji (Nkanu East/Nkanu West), who contested on the PDC platform alongside Nnamani in 2015 as PDP candidates for the 2019 general elections.

The imminent squabble

Since Gov. Ugwuanyi has fulfilled all his promises this time, the campaigns has been rosy until a few weeks ago when the governor's close allies started complaining of Nnamani's overbearing influence. The governor himself has been trying to play down the level of influence until it happened in the full glare of the public a few days ago. One of the governor's close allies who was also an eyewitness told ................. how Nnamani rebuffed the governor's directives, leaving him (the governor) helpless, embarrassed and bewildered.

'We were on a campaign road show in Enugu North LGA. On passing the gate of secretariat, an NYSC member ran towards us and reminded the Governor's aides that they have been waiting in their numbers inside the local government secretariat to receive the governor for hours. Upon hearing this and knowing the importance of Youth corps members in the upcoming elections, Ugwuanyi appealed to Nnamani to make a detour so they can meet the Corp members together. Nnamani did not only reject but did it in a manner that was so embarrassing, telling the Governor that he has another important campaign at Iva Valley to attend and quickly entered his waiting vehicle. The bewildered governor then made a face saving move by giving the leader of the corp members some financial assistance for him and his group and reluctantly followed Nnamani to zoom off".

The fear in government circles and the 2023 dimension

With the recent developments, most of the inner circle of the Governor especially those from Enugu East senatorial district where, by the Zonal arrangement which has been in practice since 1999, will produce the governor come 2023.

The fear is that with Nnamani in the senate the governor might even be unable to choose his successor like his predecessors. They strongly believe most of them will not return to their positions by the virtue of his (Nnamani's) nominees which is the last part of the said agreement between him and the governor, there by making the governor vulnerable and then paving way for him (Nnamani) to push his own personal agenda. They now see Nnamani's candidacy as a self inflicted wound that has refused to heal. They also reminded the governor of how Nnamani's overbearing attitude cost him his relationship with his successor, Sullivan Chime. In all, they believe that the governor is weak an unable to checkmate Nnamani's excesses which is injurious to their ambitions.

What about the corpers who slept in harsh conditions slumped on top of each other to be prepared to serve their country. What about those who shifted weddings, funerals shut down their businesses.

The fact that the announcement was made so last minute has fuelled the anger of the people. But this fact has made people more motivated than before with spurts of those who had voter apathy now being motivated to go out and do what it takes to go to the polling stations no matter the day. It seems that people are ready for Better this time more than ever

Politics / The Real Reason Behind Inec’s Postponement Of The Election By Nonso Ozoemena by Chikiletta: 10:12am On Feb 16, 2019
The postponement of the 2019 election came as a shock to Nigerians who had already made up their minds to vote out incompetence, nepotism, killings and poverty. However, one cannot take power from tyrants without being bruised. This is part of the bruise that Nigerians need to sustain for a better Nigeria. A lot of Nigerians had fixed sensitive activities for 23rd February, like their weddings. Will they now shift it? A lot of Nigerians had borrowed money to stock up food and fuel supplies for this election, and a lot of people have spent billions traveling across the country to go and cast their votes against bad governance, recession, poverty and incompetence.

In fighting dictatorship, there is no way one will have an easy ride. Buhari had already, through his secret agencies, conducted objective assessments of the election, and was already sure of losing until now. Are Nigerians fazed? Never! Why would Nigerians be fazed when too much is at stake? Do you know that in the next killing spree, your family could be next in the list of people to be killed? Do you know that you might be the next in line to lose your job or have your business fold up in the next round of recession coming to Nigerians? Do you know your husband could be the next person to be locked up against court orders? Do you know that your sons could be killed trying to defend this great nation against Boko Haram and banditry?

A lot is at stake and the voters know this. They know that there is no sacrifice too big for a better Nigeria. Destiny can be delayed but cannot be denied. There is a resolve around the country more than ever. And that resolve goes beyond religion or tribe. That resolve is an unwritten agreement that Never Again shall we have a government without value for human lives. Never again shall we have a government with so much affinity to poverty. Never again shall we have a government so corrupt and never again shall we have a government so incompetent that in the last one month, additional 3m Nigerians have become poorer.

Politics / Before You Cast The Ballot By Umurhohwo by Chikiletta: 9:06pm On Feb 15, 2019
BY OKE UMURHOHWO

Gradually, the moment everyone is anticipating is upon us. On Saturday, February 16, 2019, eligible voters will throng designated centres across Nigeria to cast the ballot for their preferred choices from the array of candidates fielded by political parties for available positions. Of much interest is the presidential election, where the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Abubakar Atiku, will square-off with the incumbent, Muhammadu Buhari, flying the All Progressives Congress (APC) banner. Though, there are about 73 parties that will be on the presidential ballot, the structure and support base of PDP and APC favour either of them to emerge victorious at the poll.

As expected, The APC and PDP have dominated the political wave with their campaigns. They are moving across states to convey promises and to edge one another in securing electorate support and by extension, win the poll. But the electorate must watch it and critically examine the two front-runners and be certain which of them have the capacity and zeal to draw the country away from this pitiable situation we currently find ourselves.

It’s an obvious fact that Nigeria is sliding on all front. From economic slump to social imbalance, the experience in the last three and half years have leave left the people disappointed and troubled. That makes the upcoming elections decisive, as electorates would make a choice and the outcome of the poll would show the projection of the people for the future; either for restoration or prolonging their harrowing experience.

Almost four years ago, former President Goodluck Jonathan passed a strong message when he said “The choice before Nigerians in the coming elections is simple: A choice between going forward or going backwards; between the new ways and the old ways; between freedom and repression; between a record of visible achievements and beneficial reforms-and desperate power-seekers with empty promises.” However, only few took heed of the caution and as he had predicted, that choice made by the electorate reversed all the gains achieved by successive governments and throw the country off-balance in every indices of development.

Unemployment rate rose to a disturbing 23.10 percent under three and half years from a manageable 8.20 percent when president Buhari took charge. According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Nigerians who have either lost their jobs or could not get job despite their qualifications, hovers around 21 million persons. This is one of the unfortunate consequences of the choice electorates made.

Even more challenging is the economy, which was one of the three focal campaign promises of Buhari. But the economy suffered indecisive management that plunged the country into recession in 2016– the second time in history since independence. From the inconsistent forex applications, which have snuffed life out of many businesses to the flagrant disregard for rule of law that have discouraged investments and led to a decline in FDI, the economy has endured turbulent circumstances under Buhari.

While Nigeria’s external debt stock rose from $10.32 billion in June 2015 to $22.08 billion in just three years, this huge borrowing failed to have any positive impact on the populace as the country overtook India as poverty capital of the world. According to a report by Brookings Institute, no fewer than 87 million Nigerians are battling extreme poverty, raising questions on the utilization of the debts incurred by the Buhari presidency, which grew by 114.05 percent.

Security is also a major concern in the last four years as Boko Haram attacks seem to have grown bolder that it now targets military installations, while bandit’s onslaught and Fulani herdsmen brutality have devastated people of Zamfara, Southern Kaduna, Katsina, Sokoto, Plateau and Benue states. Millions have deserted their homes and find an abode at Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) settlements, while economic and social activities in the troubled areas are either distorted or suspended.

Nigeria is in shamble and struggling to survive the glaring failures of the last three and half years. Trading blames, instead of taking responsibility left Nigeria in a precarious situation. Salvaging the sordid outlook of both the economic and social lapses that have plagued the country will require firm resolves and patriotic postures.

Casting the ballot is a civic responsibility but it must be exercised with caution so as not to reinforce failure. Whenever electorate surrendered their mandate to emotion, rather than capacity and verifiable indices, it implies they are complicit in the misgovernance that had plagued our country. They should blame themselves for the horrendous plights that the ruling elites melts on them.

Upcoming elections present us the right opportunity to discontinue our mistakes and ignore every deceit that orchestrated the disappointments and regrets of the last three and half years. Our votes should start a promising tomorrow and assurance of better well-being, not extend the pitiable situation that confronted the country. It should open up opportunities and get Nigerians back to work, not advance the idea that poverty is a virtue that citizens must gladly accept.

That is the essence of democracy and why it is preferred to any other form of government. Within our PVC rest our faith and that of the country as our choice will determine the future. As such, we must brace up and take a firm decision to correct the anomalies of the past. We should outsmart our oppressors by choosing our collective comforts and growths to their selfish attempt to further subjugate us. We should reject the fancy of stomach infrastuture and let our votes reflect our consciences.

February 16 is the day we should kickstart the recovery of the country from the current depressing state to a prosperous future. With our votes, we should make our stand known and we must not allow the fear of the establishment scare us away from embracing a choice that would not only represent our interests but get our country on the right track. As such, we should be firm to our choice and also mobilise friends and family to reject the elongation of docile leadership that have left Nigeria in a sordid situation.

This is not the time to succumb to cheap propaganda but we should look at the personality, antecedent, experience and backgrounds of those aspiring to govern us. So as to decipher their capacity and willingness to drive a country that works for all and not guided by nepotistic tendency. From every indices, PDP’s Atiku Abubakar, captured the anticipations and desires of people of Nigeria. He’s a unifier, with proven economic background and capacity to deliver on set goals.

His agenda which revolves around Getting Nigeria to Work Again place much premium on serving the people – the fulcrum on which his interest in the country’s top political office is based. Going through his policy document clearly revealed a man prepared for leadership as he had taken his time to appraise the issues bedevilling Nigeria and was able to come up with probable remedies to change the narratives that had impeded the growth and development of the country.

Atiku’s concise and unambiguous mission to return the country back to when it was working and keep our youthful population in gainful ventures is encouraging. There is no question about how much complacent the people have become over the years after seeing dreams and aspirations remaining unfulfilled. The situation is becoming increasingly unsustainable as the people wallowed in extreme poverty even as the armies of criminals grow by the day.

Without doubt, Atiku is offering a better deal that every eligible voter must consider well before casting their ballots. The suffering and indirection in the country must end and eligible voters holds that decision. Let’s make it happen by voting Atiku Abubakar as president.

Politics / Ekiti Pdp Candidate Disrupt Fayemi's Free Health Programme by Chikiletta: 5:34pm On Feb 15, 2019

Reports indicate that the People's Democratic Party in Efon LGA has perfected plans to rig the Presidential and National Assembly elections in the Local Government Area. Insider sources revealed that the PDP leaders have successfully imported many hoodlums from Lagos to support their rigging project. The thugs are being deployed to the Villages in the Local Government Area where they are expected to implement the rigging plan.

Meanwhile, yesterday morning 14th of February 2019, PDP leaders in Efon led their thugs to attack the aged people in Efon who were gathered in Itamesi area of the town to receive medical care being provided by a team of health care professionals sponsored by Hon. Michael Opeyemi Bamidele. The PDP leaders which included Mr. Bobby Jeje, Gbenga Akanni and Lekan Akinyele (the PDP candidate for the State Assembly seat) and thugs came to the venue of the Free Health Programme armed with guns, machetes and other dangerous weapons and many of the old people who came to receive health care sustained serious injuries in the ensuing stampede.

The police officers in the Local Government Area were overwhelmed by the PDP thugs and reinforcements had to be brought in from the State Police Headquarters before peace could be restored to the town. Security agents have however established a surveillance operation in Efon in order to fish out the thugs and their sponsors.

Politics / Alleged Thumb Printing Of Ballots At Ketu, Mile 12 And Other Markets by Chikiletta: 11:13am On Feb 15, 2019
SUBSISTING THUMP PRINTING OF BALLOTS BY APC AGENTS AT KETU,MILE 12 AND OTHER MARKETS
Various reliable sources have confirmed and corroborated that illegal thumb printing of ballots by the APC agents commenced since Sunday ,the 10th of February 2019,at ketu and Mile 12 markets amongst other markets in Lagos State under the control of the Iya Oloja ,the daughter of Ahmed Bola Tinubu
The leadership of the market associations have in the main resorted to the use of intimidation ,coercion and issuance of subtle threats to uncooperative market women/traders of losing their stalls and or have their leases revoked except they thumb print the ballots for the APC
The thumb printing is discreet and scheduled in batches. Some of the traders that have so far participated in the illicit exercise expressed they were compelled to do so in order to retain their shops/stalls.
The emergent development underscores the fact that the APC is working in tandem with the INEC ,as the later will factor these ballots into some of the undesignated voting centers deliberately created for such maneuvering
It’s important that this development be escalated and given the desired publicity as such act has the tendency of further checkmating the threat whilst PDP party agents infiltrate the markets as a counter move.

Politics / Peter ‘okwute’ The Rock By Nonso Ozoemena by Chikiletta: 11:52am On Feb 13, 2019

“Sounds like a very catchy nickname,” you may think to yourself? How did he get such a “cool” nickname? A nickname which brings up a vivid imagery of strength and sagacity? Let’s start off with the fact that Peter Obi has a no-nonsense-action-man-attitude when it comes to working for his people. Peter Obi, one of the leading politicians in the South-East, has shown sagacity in various ways he has navigated the political waters over the years.

All of his two tenures in the Anambra State Governorship, have been possible due to his strength and resilient attitude. Peter Gregory Obi in 2006, won a Governorship position but was later impeached controversially. Afterwards, he went to court and won.

As such, he became governor. When the first four years of the Ngige/Obi tenure expired, he went to court to get a judgement that he did not complete his own tenure. He won for the second time and was allowed to complete his tenure.

After that, he won a second tenure for himself. All of these controversy turned him into a strong people-oriented politician, because in all of this, he only had the people to fight for him. A lot of people mistake Peter the Rock, fondly called ‘Okwute’, as a stingy man, well, to many Nigerians who do not believe that a politician can win elections based on plans, policies and achievements, then Peter might be stingy.

However, what can be said of Peter is that he studied a lot of economics and finance and understands that what makes one rich is not how the money is made, but how it is spent. Peter Obi’s beliefs in cutting government wastage can be best exemplified by one of his most popular actions which was the sales of the Anambra governor’s lodge in Abuja, so he could fund education in Anambra.

This bold move was part of his many efforts to shift the state ranking from 28th to 1st in education, as rated by the UN. This shows Peter as a man who understands priorities and who stresses on the importance of saving money. In a recent interview, he was of the assertion that people ask them how they will get a lot of money to fund the plans and policies they have. He told them that he governed Anambra state for 8 years and he was able to ‘find that money’. Truly with Peter Obi when there’s a will there’s a way.

Another way that he has strove to find ‘the money’ to empower Anambra state, was to sell off the fleet of cars the governor had. He only retained two. Moving about town to settle matters like a regular man, no fuss, no hype.

He said that people were afraid for his life, but he told them that no one will kill him. And so, he was one of the few governors that could abruptly drive himself to a project site without sirens and inspect the work going on. In his weekly radio program as governor of Anambra State, he answered questions from people on the progress of projects the government was undertaking. He knew the status of every project in the state.

Has he changed? No. Peter the Rock as he is called, is not for simple adulations. It is because of his principled nature, which has faced a lot of challenges, but remained steadfast in all ramifications. He once stated that he only had a residential house in Onitsha and that EFCC should confiscate any house found in Lagos and Abuja in his name.

Till today, EFCC has not found a house belonging to Peter Obi in any other part of Nigeria, except from his hometown, Onitsha. What you get with an Atiku/Obi ticket is this invaluable experience, competence and a movement from policy formation to policy implementation. Peter the rock is a solid choice and a concrete addition to a winning team that will make for a better Nigeria.

Politics / Atiku/obi Receive Warm Welcome In Lagos Despite Work Day by Chikiletta: 4:36pm On Feb 12, 2019
Atiku’s PDP Lagos Rally; the Final Blow to Dictatorship

Despite being a workday, the PDP had their presidential rally at the Tafawa Balewa Square, a venue twice bigger than the Venue on which the APC held their presidential campaign rally in Lagos. The rally which was anchored on the joblessness and insecurity which the Buhari-led administration has brought upon Nigeria, enjoyed massive cheers from the attendees.

In the entourage was the PDP presidential candidate; Atiku Abubakar, his running mate, Mr. Peter Obi, the Director General of the PDP presidential campaign; Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, the National Chairman of the PDP; Prince Uche Secondus, the Governorship candidate of the PDP in Lagos; Mr. Jimi Agbaje and a lot of other dignitaries.

The various speakers hinted on the challenges the country has been facing under the Buhari administration, including insecurity, bad economy and job losses. The National Chairman of the PDP stated clearly that the PDP has uncovered plans by the APC to rig the election. He went on to state that the PDP will not allow that happen. He also further tasked the attendees to vote PDP and defend their votes.

The VP candidate of the PDP, Peter Obi solicited votes based on the pro-business manifesto of the Atiku candidacy. When Atiku Abubakar spoke, he reminded the people of his resolve to create jobs. He admonished the people of Lagos to vote him for the jobs and wealth he intends to create for the business hub of the nation. The crowd joyously dispersed after the national anthem. Attendees state that the traffic due to the campaign has led to a gridlock from Awolowo road up to Tafawa Balewa Square.
