Travel / 12 Tips For Surviving A Long Flight by chimah3(m): 4:40pm On Jul 13, 2017
Long flights: Do you love or hate them? They’re a necessity to get to the most far-flung destinations on earth such as Canada and Australia…lol! While some people love them, some just can’t deal. Some flights pass by in the blink of an eye; some drag on forever. The good news is that some flights are better than others and there are things you could do to help mitigate the journey along the way. Here are some helpful tricks i put together that will make being trapped in an airborne metal tube for hours feel like a premium lounge — or at the very least, more enjoyable.

Power up your devices

Make sure you have all your chargers with you so that all your gadgets are fully powered up throughout your flight. Alternatively, bring extra batteries or an external charging device in case your plane doesn’t have electrical outlets. Tip: Always pack your chargers in your hand luggage that is easily accessible.

Bring your own entertainment

Before you board your flight, make sure that your devices (tablet, laptop, smartphone, e-reader) are loaded up with games, movies, television shows, music, books and the airline’s app just in case that’s how they stream their entertainment.

Bring a neck pillow

Your neck will definitely thank you for this. Not only are they comfortable, they will improve your general well-being, and is more likely to help you sleep better.

Wear the right clothes

It is a good idea to wear loose and comfortable clothing on a flight — especially a long one. For men, this can mean a pair of jeans or sweatpants and a T-shirt; women might want to try leggings and a sweater... Also pack some cozy socks, too, but don’t go into the bathroom in just your socks – please put your shoes on!

Stay hydrated

Air travel is incredibly dehydrating. When you’re dehydrated, your mood, energy levels and cognitive function will all drop. It’s also responsible for dry, flaky skin, headaches and irritability. Drink water frequently – even if you don’t feel like you need it.

Bring an eye mask and noise-cancelling headphones

An eye-mask and a pair of noise-cancelling headphones will give you the quiet and darkness necessary for the best chance at sleep. If you forget them chances are the flight attendant will have an extra pair. Feel free to ask.

Pick a Good Seat

I usually recommend the seats next to a window, they are the best especially if you plan to sleep for most of the flight so you have something to lean against and you don’t have to worry about your seatmates waking you so they can use the loo. But if you think you will need to use the loo more often or you plan to stay awake, then get an aisle seat so you can get up at ease and have enough room to stretch your legs.

Consult SeatGuru.com or SeatExpert.com for the best seating options.

Set a Sleep Schedule

Your trip begins when you board the plane. So for a long flight that spans time zones, the moment you board is when you should begin adjusting your sleeping and eating schedules to match your destination. Keep track of the time not on your flight but at your destination. Then regulate your habits to match that time zone.

Pack anti-bacterial wipes

Planes are always dirty and germy. Even if you cannot see these, just know I told you so. To minimize your risk of picking up and spreading germs, make use of anti-bacterial wipes to wipe down your arm rests, seat belt, seat back tray, and everywhere within your flight space. A clean and sanitized area should put your mind at rest and help you relax better especially on a long flight.

Do some in-seat exercises

Keeping yourself active during a long haul flight not only gives your body some much needed movement but also helps to lower your risk of blood clotting. Such exercise may include, lifting your feet off the ground by a few inches and rotating them in circles, keeping your heels on the floor and pointing your toes up as far as you can, then pointing the toes down while lifting the heels up, and rolling your shoulders forwards and backwards or basically any routine that exercises your muscles.

Bring your own snacks/water

I will recommend you bring some protein-rich snacks that will keep you feeling full longer. Think almond nuts, peanut butter and crackers, or even protein bars. Also grab your own bottle of water before boarding.

Pack along a Small Work/Project

It is a long flight. You can use this time to be productive and finish up that project/ office work you’ve been meaning to. Long flights give plenty of time to think, create, and explore new options for your project. If you watch movies the whole flight you will most likely feel exhausted afterwards. Create a small schedule for a little work on your flight and the change in pace will definitely be refreshing!

Relax

Lastly, Just Relax! There’s really not much you can do about being confined in a plane up there! Also be nice to everyone, even the flight attendants as they can make or break your stay while on board.

Finally got my tickets to Winnipeg
Royal Air Maroc

Lagos to Casablanca (royal air Maroc)

Casablanca to Montreal(royal air Maroc)

Montréal to Winnipeg (Air Canada)

Now my question is

Where do I get my study permit?
Do I have to get my luggage at Montreal and check it into air Canada?

AGAIN WHICH IS MY POINT OF ENTRY WHERE I GET MY STUDY PERMIT MONTREAL OR WINNIPEG?

CC: dogice Chimah3

My dear i do not really know about Canada! But from other countries I've been to, your permit is issued at your first point of entry before your connecting flight!

Assuming you never buy your ticket, i for advise you to leave those Quebec people cus their serenre can be extra atimes!

Anyway nothing spoil! I hope those with more experience can shed more light on this. I also hope you have layover time before your last flight when you land in Montreal just in case that is where you are to process your permit?

jnyuwa02:

This is complete BS, I am surprised its coming from thesoj. I heard of quota in relations to an immigrant visa, not student or tourist visas. Even if there were quota to student visa, denial on flimsy excuses? This is not ethical and rational basis and I seriously doubt that visa officers do this. How did thesoj enter into the mind of a VO to know what they do in their inner chamber, denial because quota exhausted? If there were such a thing as quota, delaying an application to the next available season for adjudication is properly what should be done-not denial because quota ran out. I want some of what thesoj is smoking, if he is really the one that made such blatantly false allusions.

How is it BS? What do we really know!

We should all really learn how to talk on this forum because lately I've been seeing some comments and replies that can only piss off people who genuinely want to help!

I wonder how we got to this point! We should really all mind our choice of words moving on please!

Sometimes I don't blame MichV for bailing on us and other gurus for gradually disappearing. They just can't keep up with some of your rude comments.

Abeg let's stop behaving like all those un cultured men in the National assembly. We are all graduates. Think before you type!

All the best to every one! Relax visa will come!
