LASG: PRESS STATEMENT ON THE
RESUMPTION OF ALL NURSERY,
PRIMARY AND SECONDARY
SCHOOLS IN LAGOS STATE.
1. Concerning the resumption of all public
and private nursery, primary and secondary
schools for the 2014/2015 session, Lagos
State Government supports the September 22,
2014 date, which was announced by the
Federal Government after a national
consultation on efforts to contain the Ebola
Virus Disease (EVD) in Nigeria.
2. Although this resumption date is advisory,
as education is a concurrent matter to be
regulated by the respective Federal and
States Authorities, Lagos State Government
considers it eminently justifiable, in view of
the fact that there is currently no known
carrier of EVD in our State at the moment.
Furthermore, the last individual suspected to
have been exposed to the virus will be
discharged from observation on September
18, 2014, if he tests negative for the virus.
All public and private educational institutions
in the State are therefore directed to schedule
their resumption accordingly.
3. Considering the current situation report, it
is clear that the risk of infection with EVD in
Lagos State has been significantly reduced.
Health professionals working on the outbreak
are also in agreement that there is no reason
why schools should remain closed beyond the
22nd of September, 2014.
4. In spite of the foregoing, the State
Government has now developed and will
deploy all resources necessary to sustain the
capacity to promptly take into custody any
person suspected to be infected with EVD, as
well as safely test, monitor and isolate such
a person for treatment as may be found
necessary without endangering other
members of the public.
5. We also acknowledge the need for
everyone to remain very vigilant, as the
disease still remains in other countries within
the sub-region. The following steps will
therefore be taken in all schools, whether
public or private, before and after resumption
of schools:
(a) Training and sensitization of students,
vendors, teachers and non academic staff on
EVD and how to avoid it;
(b) Identification of EVD Focal Persons in
schools who would be responsible for
surveillance and health monitoring;
(c) Provision of adequate environmental
sanitation, including clean toilets and
premises;
(d) Provision of running water and soap and
encouragement of frequent hand washing;
(e) Sensitization of students on other personal hygiene habits, like the use of
handkerchiefs when sneezing or coughing;
and
(f) Arrangement for prompt referral of any sick
person to the nearest health institution for
treatment.
7. In spite of the foregoing, the State
Government reiterates that the health of all
its residents is a matter of utmost importance
and, if any reasons emerge for a reconsideration of the school resumption date, a well-considered decision will be taken and the general public will be informed accordingly.
8. The State Government salutes the health
personnel and health institutions that have
done their best to ensure the containment of
EVD. Government officials will meet presently
with those health institutions, which might
have suffered adverse economic
consequences as a result, and will find ways
of assisting them to mitigate their loses and
safely reopen for business as soon as
possible.

Pweetymoi1: Have written countless tests, gone for countless interviews since the past six months after POP, pple keep suggesting trying out teaching job. Even schools don dey do shakara, without an NCE or B.ED they are reluctant to hire you and dont even regard your NYSC teaching experience as experience. Even when you get the kain teaching job, you 'll be stuck in the classroom if I hear say dem go dey permit you go for tests/ interviews you go tell me whether nah your papa get the school. May God come to our rescue fast, Nigerian graduates are going through hell. Even with my 2'1 degree its still struggle buh I know God will crown my efforts soon, Amen...Despite the depressive moods I won't lose hope, so don't lose hope either....
if they do not grantor permission go, the highest they can do is deduct front our salary and when they do make sure it is correct.... am talking from experience. .... with an Audit firm now.....

Givemejoy: Learn a thing or two from the write up below:

Despite this marching order given to us by our
client, we still went ahead to disqualify about ten percentage of the total application received. In our opinion, these applicants are not ready for employment at all. Their presentation was below any acceptable standard. Even secondary school students dare not present such documents and expect to pass WAEC examination! Those kinds of people will give us problem during the selection
process.

If we are to be very strict in following the laid down rules and regulations, we are not sure if we can get up to half of the two hundred applicants needed. This is a very sad development indeed. Yet people
complain of scarcity of job and the few jobs available, most graduates are either not qualified or ill prepared.

Let us be honest with ourselves, go back to your
documents sent to us and assess yourself based on the following indices:
*Did you follow the instruction to use a particular
caption as subject of your e-mail to us?
*Did you write a formal cover letter applying for the specific position we advertised or you just forwarded your CV to us as one of the numerous.organisations you did similar thing to? Is your CV comprehensive and presentable – devoid of typographical
errors?

From the documents sent to us, are you sure.you are qualified for the post you applied for based on the requirements specified in the advert? Mind
you, we are not university; we want people who can be shown a process within few days and are independent thereafter.
Do you think you can pass our science-based
aptitude test if you are asked
to take it?

For instance, many did not follow a simple
instruction on how to reply us – USE THE TITLE OF OUR ADVERT AS SUBJECT OF YOUR MAIL. Some sent applications not meant for us, while some wrote long epistles as cover letter which we are not
prepared to read. Phone numbers were missing
in the CV of some and we observed a lot of typographical errors such as.spelling, the use of small letters where capital letters should have been used.e.t.c. If we are to do the right thing, no matter how good you are, we should have disqualified you from onset once you fail to follow our rules.

You can see what we are passing through as Consultants dealing with “graduates” not primary school pupils. You can equally see why so many.graduates apply for job and did not get reply! Mind you, we have not seen your face to see whether you are fine. Neither had you spoken to us to know whether you speak good English. The only thing we.rely upon at this stage to assess you is the.quality of your presentation. Your cover letter and CV represent you in our bid to access you. Once these are not well prepared, it’s like presenting yourself in.a rag before a panel.

Your document is like product package (label, carton,.packet, wrapper etc). If the package is not attractive to the eye, nobody will.care to pick it from the shelf even if the product is found to be good. For instance, the packaging of ORIJIN bitter.drink from Guinness is too attractive to be.ignored; yet the product itself might be worse than others in that category.
Good....... it is always one major criteria they use in disqualifying applicants. ALWAYS TAILOR YOUR CV TO THE PARTICULAR JOB YOU ARE APPLYING FOR.
E.g some of our cv has all the work experiences we have especially when applying for a teaching job, when applying, remove the driving experience(s), sales experience(s), receptionist experience(s) and put only the teaching experience, same thing if you are applying for a customer servive position. Thank you givemejoy.... please house visit Punch newspaper of lastweek and today.... all the best.

Givemejoy: EXPERIENCE is gotten by doing the job and not sitting at home. Going for test/interview is not waste of time for me, but you would learn a lot..... One of the many job interviews, l learnt that some school compute students records using computer, even Lesson note is on pc and learnt that education tax is 2%. When asked in another interview I will answer with confidence. Now, I had to have a little pain(t-fare) inorder to gain(knowledge).

Different stroke for different folks.....
