You used past activities to judge a present one. Rooney wasn't slow. He reacted fast. There was no other way. Remember, the ball slipped past under several legs.

Fast indeed. He did well by isolating himself by running back but needed to run toward the ball when the pass was made. That's his slowness I'm talking about or did he think he was the only one in the box. Running toward the ball and hitting it would have made it an easy goal.

I keep looking at the gif. First Rooney picked his angle well. He aimed at the far post. ln my opinion the defender did well. He read the situation well to block the effort with timely tackle. He saw what Mata was going to do and since we had one man in the box, the defender's prediction was made easy.

Nah, Rooney was slow as usual. We've seen many times defenders, who are behind him, are faster and dispossess him of the ball.

He was blocked na. Look at the last defender who came from his blind side to give a timely tackle. He also put a foot on the way even when he fell from the tussle. The goalkeeper was never displaced.

What he needed to do was to run towards the ball and tap it in but instead he chose to move back. We know, though, he has become slow both in his movement and thoughts.
