that's not the awareness I'm talking about. A typical example is the way he switches off sometimes

exactly, those are his major defensive problems since he's not a natural defender but he can improve on that reasonably. I think his speed does more to help Mata and not conversely especially during attack.

I wouldn't blame him though since he was never a defender but it will not be easy for him to learn that at this stage of his career.

good you've agreed he's underperforming this season while other things you stated are irrelevant to the discussion. Infact on the salary issue, don't you think his performance should commensurate his salary? Not when you earn like 300k and give 30k performance.

if Valencia continues this beast mode then it means Darmian has to fully adapt to the left back position n it also means that Mata won't hv problems as regards to defense.

Valencia does well at that RB in helping the team’s attack but exposes the back. We'd pay for it against teams that exploit that and especially as Mata plays in front of him.

He's hardly dribbled or dispossessed, his major weakness is he lacks awareness of the movement of players around him and switches off sometimes.
