A prominent figure within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called upon President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address the escalating costs of cooking gas amidst the prevailing economic challenges in Nigeria.


Oyintiloye made this plea during discussions with journalists on Sunday.


The recent surge in the price of a 12.5 kg liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder from N13,040 in February to a range of N17,500 to N18,000 across different regions in Nigeria has raised concerns among consumers.


Oyintiloye suggested that the upward trend in prices could be attributed to LPG producers potentially diverting supplies for export rather than meeting local demands.


Despite the federal government's announcement on February 22, 2024, prohibiting the exportation of LPG, Oyintiloye highlighted that the intended impact has yet to materialize.


Expressing confidence in President Tinubu's responsiveness to such issues, he emphasized the need for swift action to alleviate the burden on citizens.


The removal of fuel subsidies coupled with erratic electricity supply has compounded the challenges faced by Nigerians, underscoring the urgency for effective solutions.

The Defence Headquarters has officially announced the designation of Simon Ekpa and 96 other individuals as wanted for their alleged involvement in various criminal activities.


Among the wanted individuals are suspected terrorists and insurgents believed to be responsible for perpetrating violent crimes across the country.


Notably, Simon Ekpa, identified as a factional leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is included in the list released by Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, on Friday.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has taken a significant step by suspending the previously imposed 25% penalty on improperly imported vehicles, in addition to import duty. This decision comes as a relief to many stakeholders within the importation sector.


This move, according to the Customs Service, follows directives from the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun.


As part of this decision, a 90-day window has been initiated, effective from 4th March 2024 to 5th July 2024, specifically for the regularisation of import duties on certain categories of vehicles.


Chief Superintendent of Customs National Public Relations Officer for Comptroller General of Customs, Abdullahi Maiwada, conveyed this development in a statement issued on Friday.


The statement emphasized the intention behind this initiative, citing the desire to alleviate economic hardships and promote compliance among stakeholders.

Sheik Ahmad Gumi, a controversial Islamic cleric, has voiced his disagreement with the Federal Government's release of a list implicating individuals and entities in terrorism financing within Nigeria.


The government's disclosure, which pinpointed 15 entities—comprising nine individuals and six Bureau De Change operators and firms—was made public recently by the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit.


This revelation, detailed in an email titled "Designation of Individuals and Entities for March 18, 2024," emerged after the Nigeria Sanctions Committee convened to recommend sanctions against those involved in terrorism financing.


Topping the list of individuals was Tukur Mamu, a Kaduna-based publisher and a known ally of Gumi, who currently faces charges for allegedly aiding terrorists responsible for the Abuja-Kaduna train attack in March 2022.
