Shannon70: If you are denied that will not (or should not )be the reason. I asked because I read a transcript where someone was denied outrightly because she gave a response that the admission officer has granted her permission to arrive 1week late when the VO stated that the program has started already. However, thanks for the clarification. |

Pls @shannon70 and any other experienced person in this journey should advice me please. My program start date is 17th August (orientation) and the classes start by 22 August. My scheduled appointment is 30th of August and my school has given me extension letter. I am fully funded as well. I am scared of getting denied since the program has started. I don't know if VO's accept extension letter. Please advice rightly |

ImamOfPeace20: Hey everyone, Please need your feedback on the below Visa Denied ❌❌❌ First Attempt COA: $54,000 Deficit: $40,000 Location: Lagos
VO: good morning, pass me your visa and I-20 VO: tell me your plans to study actuarial science. VO: Actually, it’s MS Business Analytics, actuarial science is the general name. I am currently a senior finance manager where my role involves analysis and drawing insights from data to support decisions. This degree would help me become more technical in my role and be able to draw more insights and add more value to my company. VO: how do you plan to finance this program Me: I have a number of sources, personal savings, loan from Mpower $24,000 and the scholarship and some support from my family. (My dad is on there as a suppose with $4,500). VO: who is Bleep to you. He is my father, he’ll be sponsoring a part of the program. VO: do you have a relation in the US. Me: Yes I do, my brother is a Legal Permanent Resident currently who is working with A big four, he has worked with two big four but currently with one of them as a senior reporting accountant. VO: what do you do for work? I am currently a s manager of finance where I suppose c-level executives in decision support by analyzing large data sets and supporting strategic decision. I am looking to become more technical in my role which is why I am going for an Analytics Degree instead of of an MBA. The analytics degree will give me the experience needed to be a subject matter expert in my field. VO: I’m sorry you don’t qualify for a visa at this time…
What I noticed is when I started explaining how I will fund the Degree, when I started with personal savings she had a serious look and took a second look at my I-20.
Please what could I be missing here I think they wanted to know the study plan in the 1st question they asked. Your response didn't say the total credit research hours and courses you will be taking. My opinion though |

Moshkom: DISCLAIMER of trying to sound like a motivational speaker or your Fav person. Lol
Some Quickies:
It’s NOT cheap, it’s just less expensive than UK and Canada path. So, don’t have the mindset of “Dem say to enter Yankee no hard, na just to get admission” Lmao.
It’s NOT advisable to go for Undergraduate study if you’re more than 23; have finished your high school more than 5yrs ago, or you already have a degree (HND or Bsc). Yeah, your Fav agent or person would tell you “I don see person wey get am at 32 before, all na Grace” Lol
The F1 path, is a test of the most Package. You will have to PACKAGE yourself from the APPLICATION stage to the VISA APPROVAL stage. Only few people have the 10/10 profile, others “na packaging we dey chop”, so join ‘us’. Haha
About selecting the embassy location, It’s ALWAYS ADVISABLE to pick the embassy that you think would aid your visa approval, base on your I20 profile, NOT the one that have possible available interview date to pick. “Last Last e go cast” in Burna Boy’s voice. Lol
If the available date you’ve for Fall isn’t favorable, you can easily defer to spring and go for spring interview with the date you have, just make sure you’ve a spring i20. Yes, you must not go for Fall session. Lol. Yeah, I know you don’t want to hear that. But, lol.
You don’t keep trying an error on this Path, In the name of “I no go give up” or “I don see person wey get am before with this and that” or “Na who give up F**k up”. Do the right thing, repackage and reFire or you go just dey collect “woto woto”.
Random Facts: - I don’t know who you are, but USA Visa Interview Date search would humble you and yours. Not funny but funny. Lol
- This path is like a ‘cheat code path’, for guys in the Chemistry field. God when!
- Before Grace would work for you on this Path, your profile would do that or have done that. So, DO THE RIGTH THING(s), no be everything be Grace.
“TILL WE ALL POSSIBLY WIN”
⁃ MOSHKOM (August, 2022) I am already humbled with the date search thing since April ooo, I never get favourable date. Las Las I go dey alright . Flesh and blood didn't reveal this to you Most Mosh.. God go help all of us |

Rector202: Good afternoon everyone ,
I was denied recently with a funded offer at Abuja. I have been trying to look out for a new date. Although, I have been seeing dates released for the past one week (on the Regular Visa priority), these dates will not reflect on the Denied section of the Visa priority.
Please what can I do? Will dates be out under the denied section within the 6 months? Do I wait? Or can I go ahead to pick a date from Regular? Please does anyone have any experience with this? And what is your counsel? So sorry for your denial, please can you share your transcript. |

Teensmentor: For those asking for my transcript, here it is. Before I go on, I would like to state that I am the student whose spouse is already in the US on an f1 visa (Ph.D.)
VISA APPROVED Interview Day: May, 2022. (This week) Course: Ph.D. in Computer Engineering School: an R1 school in the US Funding: 100% fee waiver and half TA (about 13,000 USD) Deficit: about 12,000 USD
Also note: I initially applied for an f2 visa in october 2021 after my spouse left (as we got married legally after his interview before he left) so when I got an offer for my Ph.D., I filled out a new DS160 form for an f1 visa instead. This was advised by the customer service representative I called. So long story short, I used my f2 slot for my f1 visa.
After my thumbprint and document check, I walked to the VO window.
VO: Good morning, please pass me your document. I pass the document and they scan it. VO: So why are you going for a Ph.D. in Computer engineering, that must be wow. Me: I am going for a Ph.D. at the University of Bleep because I want to advance my career and it is the right time for me. I recently finished my Masters's degree in Data Science from Bleep University in the UK and I learned soso and so. That has prepared me for research in Machine Learning (ML) and I want to go deeper.
Additionally, while researching the schools, I came across Prof. Bleep work on mental health; using ML to predict depression from mobile phone data and it caught my attention specifically because a close family member suffered from mental health challenge and left home in 2018 unaware of her present environment (AKA she went missing). With my research, I want to be able to use ML to detect patterns in patients' data or data such as smartphone data for early detection of mental health challenges and other medical diseases and to connect patients to healthcare quickly before their ailment gets worse.
(At the point where I mentioned a family member suffering from depression, she left what she was typing and was looking straight into my eyes. she was listening attentively like I said something that touched her. )
Additionally, I have funding from the school that waives my tuition.
At this point, they cut in and ask.
VO: who is paying for your fees? Me: I have funding that waives 100% of my tuition and covers a part of my living expenses. (cuts in and say you have a Teaching Assistantship looking at my DS160 I guess from the screen)
I continue: Yes TA. I will also be covering the other part of the funding from my personal savings.
VO: How did you come about the savings? Me: I worked at Bleep during my master's and was able to save up some money during that time.
VO: oh so you had a scholarship for your masters and saved up some funds? That's impressive. Me: yes
VO: are you married? ME: yes
Vo: what happens to your family? Me: Oh, my spouse is currently doing his Ph.D. in the same school at the Bleep department on f1 visa.
VO: do you have any kids? Me: not yet.
VO: I can see you have a j1 visa before, what was it for? Me: Yes, I participated in Bleep exchange program sponsored by the US government at University of Bleep in Bleep year.
VO: But you have a 2 years residency clause
(two years of residency means I am meant to be in Nigeria for at least 2 years after the exchange program before applying for an H1 visa or permanent residency visa and some others. I only researched about it after I left the interview. I knew I had that 2 years stuff but from my knowledge, it didn't affect f1 visa plus I had done 2 years in Nigeria cumulatively)
At this point, I was dumbfounded. was confused because I never thought this would be an issue. VO goes on to ask me where I did my master's and when I came back. responded that it was in the UK and I got back early last year.
VO: That is not up to 2 years then. Tell me again, when did you come back from the US, and when did you go for your masters and return. Me: Gives precise dates of when I came back.
VO: but you've been in Nigeria since then right? and you were in Nigeria after your exchange program before your masters?
Me: Yes.
Vo took a pen and wrote all the travel details down. Did some calculations and told me they would get back to me. went inside with these details. at this point, I was already speaking in tongues cos by my calculation, I stayed about 13 months after my exchange program before going for my master's and have spent about 15 months in Nigeria since my master's.
VO comes back shortly still looking at some documents, and types some things on their computer. Oh, I forgot to add that they were typing all through my interview except when I mentioned my family member's health challenge. Then I noticed Vo picking up a white paper and says.
VO: Your visa has been approved, you will need this paper for so so and so.
At this point, I was overjoyed. Was smiling from inside my mask lol.
Me: would that be all? VO: yes, congratulations again and wish you a safe trip.
Me: thank you. Walks out of the interview room and took a deep breath of relief.
SOME TIPS THAT MY EXPERIENCE TAUGHT ME 1. Be honest. Don't hide information and lie about things and think they won't figure it out.
2. Take your time to fill out your DS160 form. Again don't lie here. They know all these things. If you have been denied before also state it and give reasons. I have never been denied a visa but I didn't fill in my j1 status on my DS160 form as there was no provision for that but they somehow knew cos they have the details in their system.
3. If you have a gap say employment or study gap, be truthful about it and explain why. Try to give a logical and convincing explanation of why. Don't just say I have been looking for work and didn't find it. lol. I haven't been in full-time employment since I returned however, I have been taking some courses to prepare for my Ph.D. and also published a book, and got married within that 15 months. Additionally, I had taken up some contract jobs for some well known organisations both in Nigeria and outside the country within this time. Those are the explanations I gave for being unemployed.
4. Don't falsify documents or lie about your status of something. They will definitely find out by asking you an unexpected question and since you haven't planned how to respond to back up the lie, you will just be stammering lol.
5. Arrive early. I arrived an hour before my interview and from all the screenings straight to the interview, I spent less than an hour. So, before my interview time, I was already done with the interview.
6. For those who are married to a spouse in the US, don't hide this information. Just say it as it is. It would most likely not affect you if they are there legally except of course yáll have ulterior motives and they will still find out anyways.
sorry for the long story. Lol. I am a writer so don't blame me. *covers face* Congratulations dear. This your interview really showcased your academics skills and shows you are truly a scholar. Just a quick one: if someone has an Uncle or Aunty from maternal side staying in the US, would it be necessary accepting you have a relative or friend when asked to indicate.? Not talking of immediate relative ooo. I asked because people will always advice that you check "No" whether relative or immediate relative to avoid them denying you Visa. |

freshprince20: Good evening all, I'm new here and I need your help on a concern of mine. I got my i-20 and I am waiting on my SEVIS fee payment to reflect. I have two kids (5 years old daughter and 10 months old son), but I and my partner aren't married due to the fact that she's from a separated family and both parents family uniting for the marriage is causing delay. I'll like to know what marital status should I fill in my ds160 and also, is there a space to fill in my children's details though I'll be traveling alone. Thanks for your anticipated response it is better to state you are single because you don't have any evidence to show that you are married. When you click on married, there's a space for you to give information about your spouse. Didn't see that for the kids when I filled mine. |

Femotech123: Lagos Bachelor degree Coa: $23,699 No funding: (haven’t been decided yet till May ending according to DSO of the school) school: EIU Vo : do your thumbprint Vo : you are going for your bachelor degree right Me : yes bachelor degree in political science Vo : why this school Me : I chose this school because it’s cheap and very affordable for my sponsor and she cut in Vo : 49$ is not cheap! Me: No ma my COA is just $23k+ ( but due to the SOA I send to get my i20 after they calculated the money with there rate is was equivalent to $49k so they input it like that so the family fund was $49k as indicated on my I20 I think that is why she said it’s not cheap) she check and quickly confirm and nodded. Vo : who is spending a lot on you Me : my brother he has been supporting me since when I want for my diploma course and he is ready and welling to support me Vo : what does he do. Me : he is a politician (I mute for a while immediately I wanted to say he Former deputy she cut in and ask Vo : what will you do with the course Me : I will come come to Nigeria to continue work at my place of work but in higher position. I can be transferred to state secretariat or federal and I will start my political ambition by joining political party. Vo : type and type and type like 5min self and eventually she said you aren’t qualified for this and brought out the blue pepper.
Please guys at @moshkom and at every other gurus in this house just advise me pls and I will appreciate this is my 3 attempt and I am 25. Should I try again or I should just go back and complete my hnd and apply for masters or I should try once again ? Secondly my sevis fee will expire on July eventually if I apply and get date lets say by August (aug 22 is my program start date ) hope I will still be able to use the sevis fee or I will have to pay for another sevis fee again. I think the response you gave to why you chose your school should have been purely academics than stating that it was because it is too cheap. |

Aniomaman81: My EA was declined for not applying within the 60 days, and EA tab was taken off; I had to keep on searching before I got an earlier date. I would advice you don't take the risk and wait for the 60 day mark before you apply, in the meantime, keep on searching for earlier dates. Exactly what I am afraid of, I know three people that applied EA before the 60 days and got theirs approved. Also I know someone that applied within that 60 days and get a decline even with a reminder. Please did you get earlier dates for Lagos or Abuja cos I have been checking that of Lagos and no show of any possible earlier dates. |
